We offer a broad understanding of contemporary issues relevant to the long-term care (LTC) sector and its workers, globally, and the concurrent evolution and involution of these workers' roles, their work and policy environments. While contemporary, most issues are also longstanding and fall into two broad categories: issues relating to the work environments in LTC, including resource availability and worker support, and issues relating to the changing nature of LTC work. We identify five key challenges that relate to the system structures of the LTC sector.

Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit Kompetenzen, die Pädagog*innen während der Ruhezeit benötigen, um Kleinkinder in Einrichtungen während des Einschlafens- und Aufwachens zu begleiten und auf emotionale Bedürfnisse der Kinder angemessen eingehen zu können. Es wird die Ruhezeit und Herausforderungen, die während der Ruhezeit vorkommen können, beschrieben. Danach erfolgt die Ableitung der Kompetenzen anhand des allgemeinen Kompetenzmodells von Fröhlich-Gildhoff, Nentwig-Gesemann und Pietsch (2011). In der Arbeit ergeben sich als wichtige Kompetenzen, die Pädagog*innen in der Ruhestunde benötigen, Responsivität, Mentalisierungsfähigkeit, Motivation für die Durchführung der Ruhezeit, die Fähigkeit der Affekt-Spiegelung und des Affekt- Containments, die Umsetzung von Fachwissen aus der Schlafforschung und aus der Bindungsforschung, Selbstreflexion und das Reflektieren der eigenen Haltung und Überzeugungen. Diese Kompetenzen sind voneinander abhängig. Denn vertritt die Pädagog*in Überzeugungen die wenig kindorientiert sind, wird es der Pädagog*in schwerfallen, das Wissen um kindlichen Schlaf oder über die Pädagog*innen- Kind- Bindung bedürfnisorientiert umzusetzen. Andersherum wird die Pädagog*in ohne Motivation Schwierigkeiten haben, selbstreflexiv zu handeln, denn der Prozess des Reflektierens setzt den Willen voraus, die eigene Handlungspraxis zu verbessern. Weiters kann geschlussfolgert werden, dass die Ruhestunde flexibel gestaltet werden sollte, da die Kinder individuelle Schlafgewohnheiten mit sich bringen. Es sollte ihnen möglich sein, durch individuelle Einschlafrituale wie dem Liegen an einem bestimmten Platz, dem Halten eines Kuscheltieres oder Handhalten einer Bezugsperson in den Schlaf zu finden. Die Pädagog*in sollte während dieser Zeit prompt auf Äußerungen und Signale der Kinder reagieren. Ebenfalls sollte die Pädagog*in negative Gefühle der Kinder, wie Trauer oder Angst affekt- spiegeln und containen. Die Kinder können diese Gefühle alleine noch nicht bewältigen, lernen so aber mit diesen Gefühlen umzugehen. Genügend Personal ist hierbei notwendig, um umgehend auf die emotionalen Bedürfnisse der Kinder reagieren zu können. Besonders in der Eingewöhnungszeit sollte jedoch besonders darauf geachtet werden, da die Pädagog*innen- Kind- Bindung zu dieser Zeit noch nicht gefestigt ist. . Außerdem ist der regelmäßige Austausch mit Eltern über das Schlafverhalten und Schlafgewohnheiten ihres Kindes sehr bedeutend. Auch sollten Teamsitzungen und Elterninformationsabende genutzt werden, um pädagogisches Personal und Eltern über kindliches Schlafverhalten zu informieren. So können Haltungen und Überzeugungen hinsichtlich des Mittagsschlafes hinterfragt werden und evidenzbasiertes Gestalten des Mittagsschlafes wird so möglich. This paper focuses on competencies that educators need during quiet time in order to guide young children in institutions through the process of falling asleep and waking up, and to respond appropriately to children's emotional needs. The rest period and challenges that may occur during the rest period are described. This is followed by the derivation of competencies based on the general competency model of Fröhlich-Gildhoff, Nentwig-Gesemann and Pietsch (2011). In this thesis, the important competencies that educators need during quiet time are responsiveness, mentalizing ability, motivation for the implementation of quiet time, the ability of affect mirroring and affect containment, the implementation of specialized knowledge from sleep research and attachment research, self-reflection, and reflecting on one's own attitude and beliefs. These competencies are interdependent. If the educator holds convictions that are not very child-oriented, it will be difficult for the educator to implement knowledge about children's sleep or about the educator-child bond in a needs-oriented way. On the other hand, without motivation, the educator will have difficulties to act self-reflectively, because the process of reflection requires the will to improve one's own practice. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the quiet hour should be designed flexibly, since the children bring individual sleeping habits with them. It should be possible for them to find their way to sleep through individual sleep rituals such as lying down in a certain place, holding a cuddly toy or holding the hand of a caregiver. During this time, the educator should react promptly to the children's expressions and signals. The educator should also reflect and contain the children's negative feelings, such as sadness or fear. The children are not yet able to cope with these feelings on their own but learn how to deal with them. Sufficient staff is necessary to be able to react immediately to the emotional needs of the children. Particular attention should be paid to this during the settling-in period, since the relationship between the educator and the child is not yet solidified at this time. In addition, regular exchange with parents about their child's sleep behavior and sleep habits is very important. Team meetings and parent information evenings should also be used to inform pedagogical staff and parents about children's sleep behavior. In this way, attitudes and beliefs regarding naptime can be questioned and evidence-based design of naptime becomes possible.

Kurzfassung Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit habituellen Orientierungen im Hinblick auf die partizipative Gestaltung der Schlafsituation. Der Begriff „Partizipation“ wird nach Schröder definiert. Die Arbeit gibt einen theoretischen Überblick über Partizipation von Kleinkindern und die Kinderrechte, sowie Partizipation im Hinblick auf die Schlafsituation in pädagogischen Einrichtungen. Im Folgenden wird die Schlafsituation mit Partizipation verknüpft. Weiter werden partizipative Kompetenzen anhand des Kompetenzmodells von Fröhlich-Gildhoff, Nentwig-Gesemann und Pietsch dargestellt. Der Theorieteil wird abgeschlossen mit einem Kapitel, das den Habitusbegriff definiert und Studien sowie Habiutsformen anführt. Im Forschungsteil wird die Gruppendiskussion als Erhebungsinstrument und die Auswertung mit der dokumentarischen Methode nach Bohnsack näher beschrieben. Die Stichprobe bestand aus zwei Gruppendiskussionen mit je vier Teilnehmer*innen. Bei den Teilnehmer*innen handelte es sich um Pädagog*innen in einem ähnlichen wobei jeweils zwei Träger pro Gruppe vertreten waren. Die Gruppen unterschieden sich dadurch, dass in der Gruppe Sozialwissenschaft der Großteil der Teilnehmer*innen neben einer Teilzeitanstellug in einer pädagogischen Einrichtung einem sozalwissenschaftlichen Studium nachgingen, während es sich in der Gruppe Vollzeit um Pädagoginnen mit einer Vollzeitanstellung handelte. Als Forschungsergebnis konnten bei beiden Gruppen in der reflektierenden Interpretation kind- und bedürfnisorientierte, sowie partizipative Orientierungen herausgearbeitet werden. Außerdem deuteten die Ergebnisse auf einen Zusammenhang von Pädagog*innen mit sozialwissenschaftlichen Kentnissen und der verstärkten Orientierung an Bedürfnissen und der Beziehung zu einzelnen Kindern hin. Es konnten keine Typen gebildet werden, jedoch soll die vorliegende Arbeit Anlass zur weiteren Erforschug habitueller Orientierungen von Pädagog*innen im Hinblick auf Alltagssituationen wie der Schlafsituation geben. Abstract This thesis deals with habitual orientations with regard to the participatory design of the sleep situation. The term "participation" is defined according to Schröder. The work gives a theoretical overview of participation of young children and children's rights, as well as participation with regard to the sleeping situation in educational institutions. In the following, the sleep situation is linked to participation. Furthermore, participatory competencies are presented on the basis of the competency model of Fröhlich-Gildhoff, Nentwig- Gesemann and Pietsch. The theory section concludes with a chapter defining the concept of habitus and citing studies and habitus forms. In the research part, the group discussion as a survey instrument and the evaluation with the documentary method according to Bohnsack are described in more detail. The sample consisted of two group discussions with four participants each. The participants were educators of a similar age, with two carriers per group. The groups differed in that the majority of the participants in the social science group were studying social science in addition to working part-time in an educational institution, while the full-time group consisted of educators with full-time employment. As a research result, child- and need-oriented, as well as participatory orientations could be elaborated in both groups in the reflective interpretation. Furthermore, the results indicated a connection between pedagogues with social science knowledge and the increased orientation towards needs and the relationship to individual children. No types could be formed, however, the present work should give reason for further research of habitual orientations of educators with regard to everyday situations such as the sleep session.

This scoping review aims to map the available evidence on the prevalence of workplace violence (WPV) based on gender, including physical and non-physical violence among nurses, midwives, and physicians across different contexts. In addition, it will explore the reasons behind gender-based WPV amongst the identified healthcare professionals leading to providing gender-based recommendations to guide future research and practice.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to thousands of deaths; of these, a disproportionate number has occurred in long-term care settings. The papers presented here deal with a number of issues highlighted by this crisis in several jurisdictions, including Ontario, Quebec and the Netherlands. Analyzing these may give us some insight into what is necessary to prevent this disaster from happening again.
