Abstract

The Internet of Things paradigm improves the classical information sharing scheme. However, it has increased the need for granting the security of the connected systems. In the industrial field, the problem becomes more complex due to the need of protecting a large attack surface while granting the availability of the system and the real time response to the presence of threats. In this contribution, we deal with the injection of tampered data into the communication channel to affect the physical system. The proposed approach relies on designing a secure control system by coding the output matrices according to a secret pattern. This pattern is created by using the Fibonacci p-sequences, numeric sequence depending on a key. The proposed method is validated on the Hydra testbed, emulating the industrial control network of a water distribution system.

15. Stress Assessment for Augmented Reality Applications Based on Head Movement Features

Abstract

Augmented reality is one of the enabling technologies of the upcoming future. Its usage in working and learning scenarios may lead to a better quality of work and training by helping the operators during the most crucial stages of processes. Therefore, the automatic detection of stress during augmented reality experiences can be a valuable support to prevent consequences on people's health and foster the spreading of this technology. In this work, we present the design of a non-invasive stress assessment approach. The proposed system is based on the analysis of the head movements of people wearing a Head Mounted Display while performing stress-inducing tasks. First, we designed a subjective experiment consisting of two stress-related tests for data acquisition. Then, a statistical analysis of head movements has been performed to determine which features are representative of the presence of stress. Finally, a stress classifier based on a combination of Support Vector Machines has been designed and trained. The proposed approach achieved promising performances thus paving the way for further studies in this research direction.

Abstract

A three-dimensional (3D) video is a special video representation with an artificial stereoscopic vision effect that increases the depth perception of the viewers. The quality of a 3D video is generally measured based on the similarity to stereoscopic vision obtained with the human vision system (HVS). The reason for the usage of these high-cost and time-consuming subjective tests is due to the lack of an objective video Quality of Experience (QoE) evaluation method that models the HVS. In this paper, we propose a hybrid 3D-video QoE evaluation method based on spatial resolution associated with depth cues (i.e., motion information, blurriness, retinal-image size, and convergence). The proposed method successfully models the HVS by considering the 3D video parameters that directly affect depth perception, which is the most important element of stereoscopic vision. Experimental results show that the measurement of the 3D-video QoE by the proposed hybrid method outperforms the widely used existing methods. It is also found that the proposed method has a high correlation with the HVS. Consequently, the results suggest that the proposed hybrid method can be conveniently utilized for the 3D-video QoE evaluation, especially in real-time applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this contribution, a flexible context-based security framework is proposed by exploring two types of context: distributed and local. While the former consists in processing information from a set of spatially distributed sources, the second accounts for the local environment surrounding the monitored system. The joint processing of these two types of information allows the identification of the anomaly cause, differentiating between natural and attack-related events, and the suggestion of the best mitigation strategy. In this work, the proposed framework is applied the Cyber Physical Systems scenario. More in detail, we focus on the distributed context analysis investigating the definition of a 2D representation of network traffic data. The suitability of four representation variables has been evaluated, and the variable selection has been performed.

Abstract

Immersive visual technologies and Internet of things are considered the main paradigms in defining new models of immersive training for critical safety applications. Accordingly, matching appropriate devices and technologies with the training requirements and its individual, technological, and operational factors is mandatory to achieve the training goals. In this context, we investigate and classify different factors based on immersive technologies, emerging devices, and sensors. Furthermore, we propose a new model for cognitive immersive visual technologies for critical safety solutions. The proposed model is validated in a use case of a fire brigade intervention after an earthquake. The use of this model mitigates heterogeneity conflicts due to the variety of immersive technologies for a specific situation by respecting stakeholders' requirements. This paper helps future researchers, industrial and enterprise stockholders to select adequate immersive visual technologies, devices, and engines for creating further critical safety solutions.

Recently an impressive development in immersive technologies, such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and 360 video, has been witnessed. However, methods for quality assessment have not been keeping up. This paper studies quality assessment of 360 video from the cross-lab tests (involving ten laboratories and more than 300 participants) carried out by the Immersive Media Group (IMG) of the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG). These tests were addressed to assess and validate subjective evaluation methodologies for 360 video. Audiovisual quality, simulator sickness symptoms, and exploration behavior were evaluated with short (from 10 seconds to 30 seconds) 360 sequences. The following factors' influences were also analyzed: assessment methodology, sequence duration, Head-Mounted Display (HMD) device, uniform and non-uniform coding degradations, and simulator sickness assessment methods. The obtained results have demonstrated the validity of Absolute Category Rating (ACR) and Degradation Category Rating (DCR) for subjective tests with 360 videos, the possibility of using 10-second videos (with or without audio) when addressing quality evaluation of coding artifacts, as well as any commercial HMD (satisfying minimum requirements). Also, more efficient methods than the long Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) have been proposed to evaluate related symptoms with 360 videos. 41. No-Reference Light Field Image Quality Assessment Exploiting Saliency

Abstract

In the near future, the broadcasting scenario will be characterized by immersive content. One of the systems for capturing the 3D content of a scene is the Light Field imaging. The huge amount of data and the specific transmission scenario impose strong constraints on services and applications. Among others, the evaluation of the quality of the received media cannot rely on the original signal but should be based only on the received data. In this direction, we propose a no-reference quality metric for light field images which is based on spatial and angular characteristics. In more details, the estimated saliency and cyclopean maps of light field images are exploited to extract the spatial features. The angular consistency features are, instead, measured with the use of the Global Luminance Distribution knowledge and the Weighted Local Binary Patterns operator on Epipolar Plane Images. The effectiveness of the proposed metric is assessed by comparing its performance with state-of-the-art quality metrics using 4 datasets: SMART, Win5-LID, VALID 10-bit, and VALID 8-bit. Furthermore, the performance is analyzed in cross-datasets, with different distortions, and for different saliency maps. The achieved results show that the performance of the proposed model outperforms state-of-the-art approaches and perform well for different distortion types and with various saliency models.
