The minimum allowed capture size for matrinxa (Brycon falcatus), established in law N° 9 096 of the 16th of January of 2009, is 35 cm. This length was considered inadequate by professional fisherman of Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade, Guaporé* river - MT. In order to achieve a sustainable management of this resource, and to guarantee its exploitation viability, 279 female matrinxa were studied between March 2008 and January 2010. The analyzed variables were total length, age and stage of gonadal maturation. The population consisted of fish until 5 years old, with a fast growth (K = 0,75 year-1) and asymptotic length 38.85 cm. The L50 among the adult females was 29.50 cm and the L100 was 35.5 cm. The analyzed data emphasize that the current legislation overestimates the fish length allowed for capture of B. falcatus in the Guaporé river basin (Matto Grosso).* The Iténez river is known as Guaporé river in Brasil.

Tartarugas ,Testudines ,Ictiofauna - Abstract
In the period of June 2005 and May 2006, we have studied parameters of the biology, population dynamics and distribution of the fresh water turtles Trachemys adiutrix (TESTUDINES, EMYDIDAE), in the coast of the States of Maranhão and Piauí. T. adiutrix is aquatic and lives both in perennial and intermittent fresh water lakes. Five common names are employed in the occurrence area: cágado, juraraca, jurará, pininga e capininga. In the Lençóis Maranhenses, Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses and Delta do Parnaíba Islands, T. adiutrix seeks terrestrial shelter on the dry season (aestivation). This inactivity period may last for seven months (July to February). The sexual ratio of the monitored population was 1:1.30 for males (n=140) which was not statistically significant (x2 = 0.60; p > 0.05). The density found was 0.010 turtles per ha and the biomass was 0.005 kg/ha. We registered the occurrence of T. adiutrix in 25 localities of 11 municipalities, two of them in the State of Piauí and nine in the State of Maranhão. The male and female plastron length differences were statistically significant (ANOVA; F = 81.21; p = < 0.0001; n = 114). Both turtle populations are opportunistic omnivorous and there was no superposition of feeding niche between juveniles and adults, but for males and females.

I studied some parameters of the reproductive ecology and factors that influence egg survivorship of Podocnemis erythrocephala (Spix, 1824) in four "campina" habitats at the mouth of Aiuanã River, Santa Isabel do Rio Negro municipality, Amazonas State, Brazil (S 00° 3r55.6", W 64° 55'11.5"). Between October and December 2002, the four "campinas" were monitored on a daily basis during the egg laying season, and each turtle nest found was marked both with a numbered wooden stick and on a GPS receiver. Data on laying date, width of nest opening, depth to first egg, number of eggs, size of each egg, distance to vegetation cover, and distance to "campina" border were recorded. The "campinas" were visited every three days, after the egg laying season, to detect evidence of nest predation. There were two egg laying periods, the first in early October and the other in the begining of December, separated by a period of "repiquetes" (flash floods). A total of 116 nests were recorded, with a nest density of 20 nests/ha, and mean of 9 eggs per nest. The mean egg volume wasl4cm^. Females choose to nest in the most open sites, (with a plant cover of up to 50%). The nest loss reached 100% for the season. Seventy percent nest logt due to "repiquete". Twelve percent to predation by the mustelid Eira barbara (which prefered the newer nests closer to the water margin). And 9% to predation by the lizard Ameiva ameiva. The lizard preyed on nests less than 10 days old, that were up to lOm away írom the "campina" border. The nest following 9% to predation: 5% human, 2% Crocodilurus lacertinus (teiid), 1% Daptrius ater (falconid) and 1% not identify.

- Abstract
Effective and targeted conservation action requires detailed information about species, their distribution, systematics and ecology as well as the distribution of threat processes which affect them. Knowledge of reptilian diversity remains surprisingly disparate, and innovative means of gaining rapid insight into the status of reptiles are needed in order to highlight urgent conservation cases and inform environmental policy with appropriate biodiversity information in a timely manner. We present the first ever global analysis of extinction risk in reptiles, based on a random representative sample of 1500 species (16% of all currently known species). To our knowledge, our results provide the first analysis of the global conservation status and distribution patterns of reptiles and the threats affecting them, highlighting conservation priorities and knowledge gaps which need to be addressed urgently to ensure the continued survival of the world’s reptiles. Nearly one in five reptilian species are threatened with extinction, with another one in five species classed as Data Deficient. The proportion of threatened reptile species is highest in freshwater environments, tropical regions and on oceanic islands, while data deficiency was highest in tropical areas, such as Central Africa and Southeast Asia, and among fossorial reptiles. Our results emphasise the need for research attention to be focussed on tropical areas which are experiencing the most dramatic rates of habitat loss, on fossorial reptiles for which there is a chronic lack of data, and on certain taxa such as snakes for which extinction risk may currently be underestimated due to lack of population information. Conservation actions specifically need to mitigate the effects of human-induced habitat loss and harvesting, which are the predominant threats to reptiles.
