Abstract

This paper presents an easy-to-understand and easy-to-use methodology for monitoring the neutralization potential of residues derived from coal preparation. The methodology was developed based on the chemical composition of the waste and the relationship between calcium and sulfur. The effectiveness of this, in the control of residues, is demonstrated through in situ testing in a coal preparation plant in San Juan de Sabinas, Coahuila. The tests were carried out by collecting samples in three waste streams for five days at the plant. The methodology presents a strong linear correlation between the neutralization potential and the Ca/S ratio of 0.91. The estimation of neutralization potential through the Ca/S ratio represents a practical, easy-to-apply methodology that saves time and favors the decision-making required by waste management plans, to avoid the generation of acid drainage in coal waste. 10. Empleo de Tomografía de Resistividad Eléctrica para evaluar la relación entre el potencial de agua subterránea y las condiciones tectónicas del noreste de México

Abstract

Se presenta la relación entre el potencial de agua subterránea y las condiciones tectónicas en tres sectores de rocas sedimentarias clásticas y carbonatadas del noreste de Mexico, utilizando tomografía de resistividad eléctrica en siete transectos. Los datos de resistividad eléctrica se tomaron usando arreglos Schlumberger, Wenner y dipolo-dipolo. Para realizar la inversión 2D, se combinaron los tres conjuntos de datos obtenidos. A partir de la interpretación de los datos de tomografía de resistividad eléctrica se localizaron y caracterizaron varios acuíferos dentro de diferentes espesores de conglomerado, arenisca y caliza. También, en el modelo 2D se identifican fracturas, fallas y límites entre tipos de rocas. Esos elementos estructurales indican que los acuíferos tienen una gran relación con el tectonismo de la región. Bloques hundidos y elevados se presentan asociados a fallas normales. La orientación de las fracturas y fallas inferidas se ajustan a las características estructurales de la región de estudio. Los acuíferos se clasifican como semi-confinados y confinados. En materiales clásticos, estos acuíferos se clasifican como granulares, mientras que en calizas son principalmente fracturados. En las tomografías también se identifican zonas de fracturas que conectan a la mayoría de los acuíferos y, a estos, con la superficie. Esas zonas pueden constituir las principales vías de recarga y contaminación de los acuíferos. La contaminación puede estar relacionada con las actividades ganaderas e industriales, así como con la agricultura y la minería en la región. Usando estos resultados se perforan pozos de agua para corroborar los acuíferos identificados.

Abstract

This article proposes a methodology for recuperating the digital matrix of the observations of the geophysical survey in those cases where only the graphic materials are possessed. This opens the possibility of carrying out a new processing and interpretation of this information with techniques not used at the moment when such works were carried out. To reach this goal several computes devices and software were used, guided to create the digital database. Furthermore, there is a proposal for the methodology carried out during the recuperation of the digital matrix of the 1: 50 000 aeromagnetics survey observations of the region of Moa. Abstract

In this article the outputs got are introduced from the interpretation of the aeromagnetics data to scale 1: 50 000 of the ophiolite sequence of Moa region. Such data were reduced to the pole, which allowed to get a map of magnetic simpler and representative anomalies of the geological heterogeneities present in the area of study. From this interpretation, possible zones of development of hidrothermals alterations were located, spatial variations of the several lithological types and of the thickness of the serpentine ultrabasic rocks, were settled down, possible fronts of overridden sheet were delimited and new elements were offered to consider during chromite prospecting.
