Abstract Background The importance of physical education in higher education is widely recognized, as it improves not only exercise attitudes and motor skills but also physical fitness, social skills, and academic performance. However, physical education courses in Chinese colleges and universities face various constraints, such as a shortage of teachers, limited teaching methods, and insufficient resources, resulting in low student motor skills, negative attitudes toward sports, and low participation rates. This study explores the effectiveness of a blended learning model, which integrates traditional face-to-face instruction with online learning components, in improving university students’ exercise attitudes and basketball skills. Methods The research was conducted in 2022 at Luoyang Normal University in China, utilizing a cluster randomized controlled trial (CRCT) with 78 healthy first-year university students. Participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (blended learning) or the control group (traditional learning), and the intervention lasted 16 weeks. Exercise attitudes were assessed via the Exercise Attitude Scale, whereas basketball skills were evaluated via set shot and half-court dribbling and shooting tests. Results Both instructional models improved students’ exercise attitudes and basketball skills; however, the blended learning model demonstrated significantly superior outcomes. Effect sizes (d) ranging from 0.57 to 1.92 indicated that the experimental group showed greater improvements in behavior attitude, target attitude, behavior cognition, behavior intention, emotional experience, behavior control, and subjective standards. In basketball skills, the experimental group outperformed the control group in set shots (d = 0.56) and half-court dribbling and shooting (d = 0.46). Conclusion Compared with traditional methods, blended learning significantly enhances university students’ exercise attitudes and basketball skills. Future research should explore the long-term effects and underlying mechanisms of blended learning in physical education, involving larger and more diverse samples to validate these findings.

Three-point shooting plays an important role in determining the outcomes of basketball games and could be relevant for player selection. However, there has been little research into the relationship between basketball players' physical capacities, metabolic capacities, and three-point shooting accuracy, particularly among female players. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between physical capacities, metabolic capacities, and dynamic three-point shooting accuracy in female professional basketball players. Twelve female professional basketball players from the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league (age: 19.04 ± 1.31 years, height: 181.33 ± 4.90 cm, playing experience: 7.83 ± 1.7 years) were recruited for this study. Pearson correlations and multiple linear regression analysis were run to assess the relationship between physical capacities, metabolic capacities, and dynamic three-point shooting. Results showed that coordination, balance, core strength, and relative average power were positively correlated with three-point shooting accuracy (r > 0.58, p < 0.05), while no other variables showed significant correlations. The current study suggests that coaching staff should consider coordination, balance, core strength, and anaerobic capacities when selecting players as well as in their training periodization if three-point shooting accuracy is considered relevant. The aims of this study were to detect biological maturity and certain athletic skills in boys aged 14 participating in competitive basketball, and to compare certain athletic skills of participants according to their biological maturity status. The participants were most talented Serbian basketball players (n= 49) who were divided into three groups according to their maturity status: early (n= 14), average (n= 24) and late maturing (n= 11). Biological maturity status of participants was assessed by technique developed by Mirwald et al. (2002). Nine tests of basic athletic skills: vertical jump, medicine ball throwing, run at 20, 30 and 50 m, agility t-test, zigzag agility drill, agility run 4x15 m, the line drill, as well as four basketball skills field tests (speed spot shooting, passing, control dribble and defensive movement) were applied. The results of this study showed that the three groups of subjects differed in applied variables (p <0.05). Average maturers achieved the best results in almost all variables, while late maturers achieved the worst results. Early maturers achieved the best results only in one variable - medicine ball throwing. Only harmonized chronological and biological age, i.e. chronological and biological growth and development, enable the best demonstration of motor abilities based on morphological characteristics. This study aimed to analyse the effects of two factors (number of players and training regimes) on players’ physiological and technical demands in basketball ball-drills. Twenty-one young basketball players performed four different ball-drills (two levels for each factor). The number of players involved was 2vs2 and 4vs4, while ball-drill regimes were continuous and intermittent. Physiological demand was assessed using the percentage of maximal heart rate (%HRmax), Edwards’ training load and rating of perceived exertion (RPE). Furthermore, the following technical actions were collected: dribbles, steals, rebounds, turnovers, passes (total, correct, wrong and % of correct pass) and shots (total, scored, missed and % of made shot). A 2 × 2 (number of players × regime) two-way ANOVA with repeated measures was applied for physiological parameters and technical actions. The 2vs2 condition showed higher %HRmax(P < 0.001), Edwards’ training load (P < 0.001), RPE (P < 0.001), number of dribbles (P < 0.001), rebounds (P < 0.001), passes [total (P = 0.005) and correct (P = 0.005)] and shots [total (P < 0.001) scored (P < 0.001) and missed (P < 0.001)] than 4vs4. Moreover, the continuous regime revealed higher %HRmax(P < 0.001), Edwards’ training load (P < 0.001), RPE (P = 0.006) and dribbles (P < 0.001) than the intermittent regime. This study showed that both number of players and regime are useful variables able to modify basketball ball-drills workload. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The overall aim of this work isto propose a tool for assessing lhe level of technichal skills for offensive basketaball athletes and schollchildren of 10 to 11 years. The sample is 64 childrens, amog them, 48 are scholars and 16 are basketball players. The proposed tests passed first trough a process of content validation, being considered as valid, and later by a construct validation, through the method of differentiated groups, which had also met the criteria. The technichal skills to be assessed are dribbling, passing and shooting. The reliability of tests were evaluated using intra class correlation coefficients and Cronbach’s alpha correlation. On verification of intra evaluator reliability was also used intra-class correlations and Cronbach’s alpha. We analyzed the simetry (skewness) and flatenning (kurtosis) of the curve. The Shapiro Wilk test was used to verify the normality of the data of athletes. We used a significance level of 5% for all analyzes. To estabilish selection criteria in students the methodology used was the technique of multivariate analysis is discriminant function analysis. The results presented in relation to objectivity were expressed by Cronbach’s alphas of 0.97. The reproducibility of the data presented a shooting Cronbach alpha of 0.88. About the passing, the reproducibility showed na alpha of 0.83, while the dribbling was used discriminant function analysis and the result was shown that all variables used in this model, including, passing, dribbling and shooting has power to discriminate school athletes.

- Abstract
The main objective of this thesis is to identify the most effective way of delivering imagery to athletes. Researchers have proposed that imagery effectiveness is affected by a number of factors, including the method used to deliver imagery. One type of imagery delivery, referred to as routine imagery (RI) in this thesis, has been used in many studies and applied settings (for a review, see Cooley, Williams, Burns, & Cumming, 2013) where the same scenario was imagined without any changes throughout the intervention period. Another method recently used in the literature, which is called progressive imagery (PI) in this thesis, is to implement various elements of imagery in a progressive way (Wakefield & Smith, 2012). In other words, in PI we start the imagery training programs with simple images, few objects, and little action, then create more complex situations by adding information in steps. Another alternative training method introduced in this thesis is retrogressive imagery (RETI), in which the process of PI is reversed.
