Abstract

Laser Sintering (LS) was the first Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) method for polymers and it is now quite an established process for rapid prototyping and even for the production of functional parts. High Speed Sintering (HSS) is a variant of PBF which was later developed and it has the potential to be more scalable than LS. Most of the work for HSS and LS has been conducted with polyamide-12 (PA 12). This work reports the first effort to use polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in HSS. Well defined, simple and complex parts could be printed without any build failures. However, limitations were induced by current HSS machines which led to some curvature (warpage) in tensile bars after manufacturing. The reason for this was that all currently available machines for HSS are built for polymers such as polyamide 12, which means their maximum bed temperature is limited to 190 °C. This corresponds to the lower limit of processability of PET in PBF processes. The slightly curved tensile bars were straightened by heating them to 230 °C with a weight on top, and afterwards the mechanical properties were measured. The tensile modulus was similar to what was obtained with PET via LS but the strength and elongation-at-break (EAB) was lower. Microscopy showed that the reason for the lower strength and EAB was the incomplete melting of particles. This arose from the temperature limitation of the current generation of HSS machines. The porosity was established as 2.23% by helium pycnometry which is the same as for LS. The results of the thermal analysis indicated that the PET parts manufactured with HSS were semi-crystalline like the PET parts manufactured via LS.

Abstract

Canine babesiosis is increasing in incidence and prevalence and is now a major problem in dogs. During this study, a total of 6204 dogs were examined for babesiosis over a 12 month period from January to December, 2006 in Lahore and 2.62% were found positive. The dogs were grouped on the basis of their age, sex and breed and season of the year. The male dogs were more prone to disease than female dogs (3.39 vs. 1.32%), whereas the incidence of disease was higher in younger dogs (6.9%) than older age groups. Crossbreds were more prone to the infection (10.9%) than purebreds. However, none of them were completely resistant. Warm and humid season played a key role in the spread of disease. Predominant vector of the disease was found to be Rhipicephalus species.

12. Eosinophilic Granuloma of the Skull Presenting as Non-Traumatic Extradural Haematoma in Children

Abstract

Cranial extradural haematoma (EDH) is a neurosurgical emergency that can be caused by traumatic or non-traumatic causes with the former being more prevalent. Non-traumatic causes are variable and can include infection, vascular malformation and haematological disorders. This paper will address an extremely rare non-traumatic cause of EDH. More specifically, eosinophilic granuloma (EG), the localized form of Langerhans histiocytosis, may involve the skull and has rarely been reported to present with EDH. The case that will be presented is that of a three-year-old male patient, who presented with progressive vomiting and drowsiness, associated with left parietal swelling. CT scan of the brain showed an extradural haematoma and an osteolytic parietal lesion. He underwent emergent craniectomy, evacuation of the haematoma and dura resection as the lesion was infiltrating the dura. Histopathological examination of the dura and the bone edges showed eosinophilic granuloma (EG). The mechanism of a haemorrhage in this situation is poorly understood and the literature is extremely scarce. In conducting a thorough literature review, only 11 case reports of EG causing non-traumatic EDH were found. The details of these 11 cases will be reviewed and discussed in this paper, in addition to our illustrative case.

Abstract

How the cerebellum carries out its functions is not clear, even for its established roles in motor control. In particular, little is known about how the cerebellar nuclei (CN) integrate their synaptic and neuromodulatory inputs to generate cerebellar output. CN neurons receive inhibitory inputs from Purkinje cells, excitatory inputs from mossy fibre and climbing fibre collaterals, as well as a variety of neuromodulatory inputs, including cholinergic inputs. In this study we tested how activation of acetylcholine receptors modulated firing rate, intrinsic properties and synaptic transmission in the CN. Using in vitro whole-cell patch clamp recordings from neurons in the interpositus nucleus, the acetylcholine receptor agonist carbachol was shown to induce a short-term increase in firing rate, increase holding current and decrease input resistance of interpositus CN neurons. Carbachol also induced long-term depression of evoked inhibitory postsynaptic currents and a short-term depression of evoked excitatory postsynaptic currents. All effects were shown to be dependent upon muscarinic acetylcholine receptor activation. Overall, the present study has identified muscarinic receptor activation as a modulator of CN activity.

Abstract

The research examined the impact of social media; social networking theory, word of mouth feedback loop, and creditability content on the consumer buying behavior in Pakistan. The structured questionnaire shared using the convenience sampling between 650-700 participants. However, received 392 complete responses. The estimations revealed that there is a significant and positive impact of social media, social networking theory, word of mouth, feedback loop, and creditability content on the buying behavior in Pakistan. Social media plays an important role in consumer buying behavior, which means that people are more likely to search, buy and share products using social media channels. Due to Covid-19, the number of responses received was less than expected. Furthermore, the salary of the respondents was not included in the questionnaire, which could have given information that is more detailed. The study examined the in-depth impact of social media on the people of Pakistan considering their detailed demographic and socioeconomic factors as it lacked the evidence with in historical literature. The owners/managers to attract or retain the customers must build their online presence using the most used social channels like Instagram and Facebook. Future researchers need to create a precise yet comprehensive survey. The salary of the respondent can be used to determine the behavior of respondents having different salary levels. Abstract

The present research study was conducted to determine the effect of sub-lethal (1/3rd of LC50) concentrations of heavy metals mixture (Cd+Cr+Co+Cu+Ni) on the growth performance of two carnivorous fish species viz. Channa marulius and Mystus seenghala, under laboratory conditions. The statistical differences among various growth parameters of the treated and control fish were analyzed by employing the Factorial experiments under RCBD and Tukey's/Student Newman-Keul tests. The three length groups (50, 100 and 150 mm) of each fish species were divided into two groups i.e., treated and control. For a period of 120 days, each group of fish species was exposed to Cd+Cr+Co+Cu+Ni mixture, separately and growth of the treated fish was compared with that of the control fish group. The fish growth trials were conducted, by selecting a group (n=10) of each length group and fish species. The experiments were conducted with three replications for each exposure concentration, separately. The growth performance of three length groups (50, 100 and 150 mm) of metals mixture treated and control fish groups was monitored in terms of increase/decrease in average wet weights (g) and total lengths (mm), feed intake (g), condition factor and feed conversion ratio. The data on all the growth variables of fish were collected, on weekly basis and analyzed statistically. The Results showed that all the three (50, 100 and 150 mm) length groups of Cd+Cr+Co+Cu+Ni mixture treated fish revealed significantly reduced growth, in terms of increase in average wet weights, total lengths and feed intake as compared to the three length groups of control fish. However, the treated fish showed significantly higher values of condition factor (K) as compared to the control fish. Regarding overall means, the 150 mm fish showed significantly better average wet weight and total length increments, and feed intake while lower FCR as compared to 100- and 50-mm length groups. The 50 mm fish exhibited significantly better K value than that of 100- and 150-mm length groups of fish. During chronic Cd+Cr+Co+Cu+Ni mixture exposure, Channa marulius exhibited significantly (p<0.01) higher average wet weight and total length increments, feed intake and condition factor while lower FCR as compared to Mystus seenghala. Metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) in hippocampus are involved in the formation of long-term potentiation (LTP) and depotentiation. The mGluRs are essential to trigger LTP when slices are in a deconditioned state. The mGluRs trigger a molecular switch that removes the need for mGluR stimulation during LTP induction.

Abstract

The present study was an endeavor to investigate the growth strategies of Oxalis corniculata L., O. corymbosa DC. and O. pes-caprae L. The distribution and seasonal pattern of growth of Oxalis spp. was followed by regularly harvesting the species and measuring growth parameters on monthly basis at selected sites. It seemed that the growth pattern of the species allows them to select particular niches in the garden. The comparative analysis of life cycle showed that O. corniculata has the longest growing season and reproduce by seeds and vegetative propagules, whereas O. corymbosa and O. pes-caprae have short growing seasons and reproduce by vegetative propagules only. It appeared that O. corniculata is Competitive Ruderal (C-R) garden weed with occurrence on less disturbed areas and its growth strategies allow it to compete with other grasses in the same habitat. Oxalis corymbosa and O. pes-caprae are Stress-Tolerant Ruderals (S-R) as they are found at disturbed sites. Mode of vegetative reproduction of O. corymbosa is more efficient as compared to O. pes-caprae. O. pes-caprae have more specialized niches and spot bound mode of vegetative propagules that make it the most vulnerable in the gardens as compared to the other two species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background & Aim: Cervical cancer is the fourth common cancer worldwide. Pap smear is a usual t est to screen cervical cancer. The aim of the present study was to determine factors associated with Pap smear screening among married women aged 15-49 years in Lamerd health centers based on the Protection Motivation Theory . Methods & Materials: In this cross-sectional study, 220 married women aged 15-49 years were selected. Data were gathered using a questionnaire designed based on the Protection Motivation Theory. The questionnaires were completed via individual interviews with the participants. Validity and reliability of the questionnaire were approved. Data were analysed using the Kruskal-Wallis, U-Man Whitney test and c 2 in the SPSS-16. Results: Most of the participants ( 40%) had a high school diploma and 70% of them were housewives. 31. Posterodorsal Medial Amygdala Mediates Tail-Pinch Induced Food Intake in Female Rats

Abstract

Comfort eating during periods of stress is a common phenomenon observed in both animals and humans. However, the underlying mechanisms of stress-induced food intake remain elusive. The amygdala plays a central role in higher-order emotional processing and the posterodorsal subnucleus of the medial amygdala (MePD), in particular, is involved in food intake. Extra-hypothalamic corticotrophin-releasing factor (CRF) is well recognised for mediating behavioural responses to stress. To explore the possible role of amygdala CRF receptor activation in stress-induced food intake, we evaluated whether a stressor such as tail-pinch, which reliably induces food intake, would fail to do so in animals bearing bilateral neurotoxic lesions of the MePD. Our results showed that ibotenic acid induced lesions of the MePD markedly reduced tail-pinch induced food intake in ovariectomised, 17β-oestradiol replaced rats. In addition, intra-MePD (right side only) administration of CRF (0.002 or 0.02 ng) via chronically implanted cannulae resulted in a dose-dependent increase in food intake, although higher doses of 0.2 and 2 ng CRF had less effect, producing a bell shaped curve. Furthermore, intra-MePD (bilateral) administration of the CRF receptor antagonist, astressin (0.3 μg per side) effectively blocked tail-pinch induced food intake. These data suggest that the MePD is involved in stress-induced food intake and that the amygdala CRF system may be a mediator of comfort eating.

Abstract

B Introduction: b Relapsed/refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (r/r-DLBCL) are a therapeutic challenge, especially in patients not suitable for high dose chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation or patients who fail CAR-T-cell therapy. r/rDLBCLs exhibit considerable heterogeneity. In xenograft models using the DLBCL line SU-DHL-10, BTM-3566 once-daily oral treatment resulted in complete regression in all tumor-bearing animals. Most importantly, no subsequent tumor growth occurred for 2 weeks after cessation of therapy, indicating that treatment with BTM-3566 resulted in a durable complete remission in this model of double-hit DLBCL.
