Abstract: Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are prime candidate sources of the high-energy, astrophysical neutrinos detected by IceCube. This is demonstrated by the real-time multi-messenger detection of the blazar TXS 0506+056 and the recent evidence of neutrino emission from NGC 1068 from a separate time-averaged study. However, the production mechanism of the astrophysical neutrinos in AGN is not well established which can be resolved via correlation studies with photon observations. For neutrinos produced due to photohadronic interactions in AGN, in addition to a correlation of neutrinos with high-energy photons, there would also be a correlation of neutrinos with photons emitted at radio wavelengths. In this work, we perform an in-depth stacking study of the correlation between 15 GHz radio observations of AGN reported in the MOJAVE XV catalog, and ten years of neutrino data from IceCube. We also use a time-dependent approach which improves the statistical power of the stacking analysis. No significant correlation was found for both analyses and upper limits are reported. When compared to the IceCube diffuse flux, at 100 TeV and for a spectral index of 2.5, the upper limits derived are $\sim3\%$ and $\sim9\%$ for the time-averaged and time-dependent case, respectively., Comment: 14 Pages 7 Figures

Abstract: We present a search for an eV-scale sterile neutrino using 7.5 years of data from the IceCube DeepCore detector. The analysis uses a sample of 21,914 events with energies between 5 and 150 GeV to search for sterile neutrinos through atmospheric muon neutrino disappearance. Improvements in event selection and treatment of systematic uncertainties provide greater statistical power compared to previous DeepCore sterile neutrino searches. Our results are compatible with the absence of mixing between active and sterile neutrino states, and we place constraints on the mixing matrix elements $|U_{\mu 4}|^2 < 0.0534$ and $|U_{\tau 4}|^2 < 0.0574$ at 90% CL under the assumption that $\Delta m^2_{41}\geq 1\;\mathrm{eV^2}$. These null results add to the growing tension between anomalous appearance results and constraints from disappearance searches in the 3+1 sterile neutrino landscape., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures. Abstract: The recent IceCube detection of TeV neutrino emission from the nearby active galaxy NGC 1068 suggests that active galactic nuclei (AGN) could make a sizable contribution to the diffuse flux of astrophysical neutrinos. The absence of TeV $\gamma$-rays from NGC 1068 indicates neutrino production in the vicinity of the supermassive black hole, where the high radiation density leads to $\gamma$-ray attenuation. Therefore, any potential neutrino emission from similar sources is not expected to correlate with high-energy $\gamma$-rays. Disk-corona models predict neutrino emission from Seyfert galaxies to correlate with keV X-rays, as they are tracers of coronal activity. Using through-going track events from the Northern Sky recorded by IceCube between 2011 and 2021, we report results from a search for individual and aggregated neutrino signals from 27 additional Seyfert galaxies that are contained in the BAT AGN Spectroscopic Survey (BASS). Besides the generic single power-law, we evaluate the spectra predicted by the disk-corona model. Assuming all sources to be intrinsically similar to NGC 1068, our findings constrain the collective neutrino emission from X-ray bright Seyfert galaxies in the Northern Hemisphere, but, at the same time, show excesses of neutrinos that could be associated with the objects NGC 4151 and CGCG 420-015. Abstract: Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are promising candidate sources of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos since they provide environments rich in matter and photon targets where cosmic ray interactions may lead to the production of gamma rays and neutrinos. We searched for high-energy neutrino emission from AGN using the $\textit{Swift}$-BAT Spectroscopic Survey (BASS) catalog of hard X-ray sources and 12 years of IceCube muon track data. First, upon performing a stacked search, no significant emission was found. Second, we searched for neutrinos from a list of 43 candidate sources and found an excess from the direction of two sources, Seyfert galaxies NGC 1068 and NGC 4151. We observed NGC 1068 at flux $\phi_{\nu_{\mu}+\bar{\nu}_{\mu}}$ = $4.02_{-1.52}^{+1.58} \times 10^{-11}$ TeV$^{-1}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ normalized at 1 TeV, with power-law spectral index, $\gamma$ = 3.10$^{+0.26}_{-0.22}$, consistent with previous IceCube results. The observation of a neutrino excess from the direction of NGC 4151 is at a post-trial significance of 2.9$\sigma$. If interpreted as an astrophysical signal, the excess observed from NGC 4151 corresponds to a flux $\phi_{\nu_{\mu}+\bar{\nu}_{\mu}}$ = $1.51_{-0.81}^{+0.99} \times 10^{-11}$ TeV$^{-1}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ normalized at 1 TeV and $\gamma$ = 2.83$^{+0.35}_{-0.28}$.

Abstract: We present the first three-parameter fit to a 3+1 sterile neutrino model using 7.634 years of data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory on $\nu_\mu+\overline{\nu}_\mu$ charged-current interactions in the energy range 500--9976 GeV. Our analysis is sensitive to the mass-squared splitting between the heaviest and lightest mass state ($\Delta m_{41}^2$), the mixing matrix element connecting muon flavor to the fourth mass state ($|U_{\mu4}|^2$), and the element connecting tau flavor to the fourth mass state ($|U_{\tau4}|^2$). Predicted propagation effects in matter enhance the signature through a resonance as atmospheric neutrinos from the Northern Hemisphere traverse the Earth to the IceCube detector at the South Pole. The remaining sterile neutrino matrix elements are left fixed, with $|U_{e4}|^2= 0$ and $\delta_{14}=0$, as they have a negligible effect, and $\delta_{24}=\pi$ is set to give the most conservative limits. The result is consistent with the no-sterile neutrino hypothesis with a probability of 4.3%. Profiling the likelihood of each parameter yields the 90\% confidence levels: $ 2.4\,\mathrm{eV}^{2} < \Delta m_{41}^2 <9.6\,\mathrm{eV}^{2} $ , $0.0081 < |U_{\mu4}|^2 < 0.10$ , and $|U_{\tau4}|^2< 0.035$, which narrows the allowed parameter-space for $|U_{\tau4}|^2$. Abstract: We provide supporting details for the search for a 3+1 sterile neutrino using data collected over eleven years at the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. The analysis uses atmospheric muon-flavored neutrinos from 0.5 to 100\, TeV that traverse the Earth to reach the IceCube detector, and finds a best-fit point at $\sin^2(2\theta_{24}) = 0.16$ and $\Delta m^{2}_{41} = 3.5$ eV$^2$ with a goodness-of-fit p-value of 12\% and consistency with the null hypothesis of no oscillations to sterile neutrinos with a p-value of 3.1\%. Several improvements were made over past analyses, which are reviewed in this article, including upgrades to the reconstruction and the study of sources of systematic uncertainty. We provide details of the fit quality and discuss stability tests that split the data for separate samples, comparing results. Abstract: This Letter presents the result of a 3+1 sterile neutrino search using 10.7 years of IceCube data. We analyze atmospheric muon neutrinos that traverse the Earth with energies ranging from 0.5 to 100 TeV, incorporating significant improvements in modeling neutrino flux and detector response compared to earlier studies. Notably, for the first time, we categorize data into starting and through-going events, distinguishing neutrino interactions with vertices inside or outside the instrumented volume, to improve energy resolution. The best-fit point for a 3+1 model is found to be at $\sin^2(2\theta_{24}) = 0.16$ and $\Delta m^{2}_{41} = 3.5$ eV$^2$, which agrees with previous iterations of this study. The result is consistent with the null hypothesis of no sterile neutrinos with a p-value of 3.1\%., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures. Abstract: Galactic PeVatrons are sources that can accelerate cosmic rays to PeV energies. The high-energy cosmic rays are expected to interact with the surrounding ambient material or radiation, resulting in the production of gamma rays and neutrinos. To optimize for the detection of such associated production of gamma rays and neutrinos for a given source morphology and spectrum, a multi-messenger analysis that combines gamma rays and neutrinos is required. In this study, we use the Multi-Mission Maximum Likelihood framework (3ML) with IceCube Maximum Likelihood Analysis software (i3mla) and HAWC Accelerated Likelihood (HAL) to search for a correlation between 22 known gamma-ray sources from the third HAWC gamma-ray catalog and 14 years of IceCube track-like data. No significant neutrino emission from the direction of the HAWC sources was found. We report the best-fit gamma-ray model and 90% CL neutrino flux limit from the 22 sources. From the neutrino flux limit, we conclude that the gamma-ray emission from five of the sources can not be produced purely from hadronic interactions. We report the limit for the fraction of gamma rays produced by hadronic interactions for these five sources.

Abstract: More than 10,000 photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) with a diameter of 80 mm will be installed in multi-PMT Digital Optical Modules (mDOMs) of the IceCube Upgrade. These have been tested and pre-calibrated at two sites. A throughput of more than 1000 PMTs per week with both sites was achieved with a modular design of the testing facilities and highly automated testing procedures. The testing facilities can easily be adapted to other PMTs, such that they can, e.g., be re-used for testing the PMTs for IceCube-Gen2. Single photoelectron response, high voltage dependence, time resolution, prepulse, late pulse, afterpulse probabilities, and dark rates were measured for each PMT. Abstract: The IceCube Neutrino Observatory relies on an array of photomultiplier tubes to detect Cherenkov light produced by charged particles in the South Pole ice. IceCube data analyses depend on an in-depth characterization of the glacial ice, and on novel approaches in event reconstruction that utilize fast approximations of photoelectron yields. Here, a more accurate model is derived for event reconstruction that better captures our current knowledge of ice optical properties. When evaluated on a Monte Carlo simulation set, the median angular resolution for in-ice particle showers improves by over a factor of three compared to a reconstruction based on a simplified model of the ice. The most substantial improvement is obtained when including effects of birefringence due to the polycrystalline structure of the ice. Abstract: A measurement of the diffuse astrophysical neutrino spectrum is presented using IceCube data collected from 2011-2022 (10.3 years). We developed novel detection techniques to search for events with a contained vertex and exiting track induced by muon neutrinos undergoing a charged-current interaction. Searching for these starting track events allows us to not only more effectively reject atmospheric muons but also atmospheric neutrino backgrounds in the southern sky, opening a new window to the sub-100 TeV astrophysical neutrino sky. The event selection is constructed using a dynamic starting track veto and machine learning algorithms. We use this data to measure the astrophysical diffuse flux as a single power law flux (SPL) with a best-fit spectral index of $\gamma = 2.58 ^{+0.10}_{-0.09}$ and per-flavor normalization of $\phi^{\mathrm{Astro}}_{\mathrm{per-flavor}} = 1.68 ^{+0.19}_{-0.22} \times 10^{-18} \times \mathrm{GeV}^{-1} \mathrm{cm}^{-2} \mathrm{s}^{-1} \mathrm{sr}^{-1}$ (at 100 TeV). The sensitive energy range for this dataset is 3 - 550 TeV under the SPL assumption. Abstract: CHIPS (CHerenkov detectors In mine PitS) was a prototype large-scale water Cherenkov detector located in northern Minnesota. The main aim of the R&D project was to demonstrate that construction costs of neutrino oscillation detectors could be reduced by at least an order of magnitude compared to other equivalent experiments. This article presents design features of the CHIPS detector along with details of the implementation and deployment of the prototype. While issues during and after the deployment of the detector prevented data taking, a number of key concepts and designs were successfully demonstrated.

Abstract: BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Although digital subtraction angiography (DSA) provides excellent visualization of the intracranial vasculature, it has several limitations. Our purpose was to evaluate the ability of helical CT angiography (CTA) to help detect and quantify intracranial stenosis and occlusion compared with DSA and MR angiography (MRA). METHODS: Twenty-eight patients underwent CTA, DSA, and 3D time-of-flight (TOF) MRA for suspected cerebrovascular lesions. All three studies were performed within a 30-day period. Two readers blinded to prior estimated or calculated stenoses, patient history and clinical information examined 672 vessel segments. Lesions were categorized as normal (0–9%), mild (10–29%), moderate (30–69%), severe (70–99%), or occluded (no flow detected). DSA was the reference standard. Unblinded consensus readings were obtained for all discrepancies. RESULTS: A total of 115 diseased vessel segments were identified. After consensus interpretation, CTA revealed higher sensitivity than that of MRA for intracranial stenosis (98% versus 70%, P < .001) and occlusion (100% versus 87%, P = .02). CTA had a higher positive predictive value than that of MRA for both stenosis (93% versus 65%, P < .001) and occlusion (100% versus 59%, P < .001). CTA had a high interoperator reliability. In 6 of 28 patients (21%), all 6 with low-flow states in the posterior circulation, CTA was superior to DSA in detection of vessel patency. CONCLUSION: CTA has a higher sensitivity and positive predictive value than MRA and is recommended over TOF MRA for detection of intracranial stenosis and occlusion. CTA has a high interoperator reliability. CTA is superior to DSA in the evaluation of posterior circulation steno-occlusive disease when slow flow is present. CTA results had a significant effect on patient clinical management.

Abstract: Summary: Bilateral mesiotemporal hyperintensity on T2-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery MR images of a patient with a clinical syndrome of encephalitis is considered to be a classic finding for herpes simplex virus infection. We report a case of neurosyphilis with identical MR imaging abnormalities and a similar clinical presentation. Because syphilis is not routinely tested for, awareness of this mimicry of herpes simplex virus encephalitis is important, considering the potential therapeutic implications.

20. Study of incidence of helminthic infestation in children aged 1 to 15 years attending to a tertiary care hospital.

Abstract: Background: Helminthic infestation is common in children because of their habits and opportunity for exposure. The present study was undertaken in the Narayana Hospital, Nellore to determine the incidence of various helminthes, the symptomatology and clinical manifestations of various helminthes and to correlate type of helminthic infestation. Material and methods: This is a prospective study, was done in 1 to 15 years children who attended O P D or admitted to the pediatric ward, Narayana Hospital, Nellore. The material for the study comprises of 500 children's, who attended OPD or admitted to the Pediatric ward belonging to 1 to 15 years age groups. A detailed clinical examination including stool examination was done for all the 500 children. Blood examination was done for knowing the degree of anemia. Results and discussion: Out of 500 children examined in various age groups, 275 children's were found to be positive for one or other helminthic ova in the stool samples examined giving an overall incidence of 55%. Out of 500 children examined, 235 were males and 265 were females, of which 130 males and 145 females were found to be infested for one or other helminthic ova. Out of 500 stool examples examined 275 were positive for one or other helminthic ova, 160 were positive for ascariasis, 20 were positive for Hookworm, 40 were positive for Trichuris trichura, 10 were positive for hymenolepis nana and 5 was positive for Taenia infestation. Out of 500 children studied, 130 children belong to class V Socio -economic class, 150 children belong to class IV socio - economic class, 120 children belong to class III Socio - economic class and 100 children belong to class II Socio - economic class, giving a percentage of infestation according to socio -economic class as 80% in class V, 63.3% in class IV, 41.7% in class - III and 30% in class II respectively. Anemia in hookworm infestation was of mild degree in all 15 children. Anemia in mixed infestation was of mild degree in 20 children and moderate degree in 5 children. Out of 500 children studied 300 children had normal nutritional status a nd positive percentage of helminthic infestation in them was 26.7%, 140 children had Grade - I malnutrition and positive percentage of helminthic infestation in them 96.4. 40 children had Grade-II and 20 children had Grade - III malnutrition. Positive percentage of helminthic infestation in Grade - II and Grade - III malnutrition was found to be 100%. Conclusion: This study confirms the finding of the other authors all over India regarding helminthic infestations in respect to epidemiology, clinical manifestations and relation with nutritional status. Abstract: With the full FDA approval and centers for Medicare & Medicaid services (CMS) coverage of lecanemab and donanemab, a growing number of practices are offering anti-amyloid immunotherapy to appropriate patients with cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild dementia due to amyloid-positive Alzheimer's disease (AD). The goal of this paper is to provide updated practical considerations for radiologists, including implementation of MR imaging protocols, workflows and reporting and communication practices relevant to anti-amyloid immunotherapy and monitoring for amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA). Abstract: Background: Evaluating longitudinal changes in gliomas is a time-intensive process with significant interrater variability. Automated segmentation could reduce interrater variability and increase workflow efficiency for assessment of treatment response. We sought to evaluate whether neural networks would be comparable to expert assessment of pre- and posttreatment diffuse gliomas tissue subregions including resection cavities., Methods: A retrospective cohort of 647 MRIs of patients with diffuse gliomas (average 55.1 years; 29%/36%/34% female/male/unknown; 396 pretreatment and 251 posttreatment, median 237 days post-surgery) from 7 publicly available repositories in The Cancer Imaging Archive were split into training (536) and test/generalization (111) samples. T1, T1-post-contrast, T2, and FLAIR images were used as inputs into a 3D nnU-Net to predict 3 tumor subregions and resection cavities. We evaluated the performance of networks trained on pretreatment training cases (Pre-Rx network), posttreatment training cases (Post-Rx network), and both pre- and posttreatment cases (Combined networks)., Results: Segmentation performance was as good as or better than interrater reliability with median dice scores for main tumor subregions ranging from 0.82 to 0.94 and strong correlations between manually segmented and predicted total lesion volumes (0.94 < R 2 values < 0.98). Abstract: Background and Purpose: Deep learning image reconstruction allows faster MR imaging acquisitions while matching or exceeding the standard of care and can create synthetic images from existing data sets. This multicenter, multireader spine study evaluated the performance of synthetically created STIR compared with acquired STIR., Materials and Methods: From a multicenter, multiscanner data base of 328 clinical cases, a nonreader neuroradiologist randomly selected 110 spine MR imaging studies in 93 patients (sagittal T1, T2, and STIR) and classified them into 5 categories of disease and healthy. A DICOM-based deep learning application generated a synthetically created STIR series from the sagittal T1 and T2 images. Five radiologists (3 neuroradiologists, 1 musculoskeletal radiologist, and 1 general radiologist) rated the STIR quality and classified disease pathology (study 1, n = 80). They then assessed the presence or absence of findings typically evaluated with STIR in patients with trauma (study 2, n = 30). The readers evaluated studies with either acquired STIR or synthetically created STIR in a blinded and randomized fashion with a 1-month washout period. The interchangeability of acquired STIR and synthetically created STIR was assessed using a noninferiority threshold of 10%., Results: For classification, there was a decrease in interreader agreement expected by randomly introducing synthetically created STIR of 3.23%. For trauma, there was an overall increase in interreader agreement by +1.9%. The lower bound of confidence for both exceeded the noninferiority threshold, indicating interchangeability of synthetically created STIR with acquired STIR. Standard of care and accelerated datasets were acquired for each subject, and the accelerated scans were enhanced with deep learning processing. Standard of care, accelerated scans, and accelerated-deep learning were subjected to NeuroQuant quantitative analysis and classified by a neuroradiologist into clinical disease categories. Concordance of standard of care and accelerated-deep learning biomarker measurements were assessed. Randomized, side-by-side, multiplanar datasets (360 series) were presented blinded to 2 neuroradiologists and rated for apparent SNR, image sharpness, artifacts, anatomic/lesion conspicuity, image contrast, and gray-white differentiation to evaluate image quality., Results: Accelerated-deep learning was statistically superior to standard of care for perceived quality across imaging features despite a 60% sequence scan-time reduction. Both accelerated-deep learning and standard of care were superior to accelerated scans for all features. There was no difference in quantitative volumetric biomarkers or clinical classification for standard of care and accelerated-deep learning datasets., Conclusions: Deep learning reconstruction allows 60% sequence scan-time reduction while maintaining high volumetric quantification accuracy, consistent clinical classification, and what radiologists perceive as superior image quality compared with standard of care. This trial supports the reliability, efficiency, and utility of deep learning-based enhancement for quantitative imaging. Shorter scan times may heighten the use of volumetric quantitative MR imaging in routine clinical settings., (© 2021 by American Journal of Neuroradiology.)

Abstract: Introduction: Cephalocranial disproportion was said to be responsible for Chiari I malformation after ventriculoperitoneal shunt. We aimed to evaluate if the volumetric characteristics of Chiari I after a ventriculoperitoneal shunt was due to a general volumetric reduction and if it is restricted to the posterior fossa., Results: Our results show that the posterior fossa volume, cisternal, clival length, and posterior cranial fossa volume ratio were reduced in the shunted group compared to the controls (p<0.05). Cerebellar and supratentorial volumes were similar between both groups. Craniocaudal extent, inferior, and superior tonsillar herniations were greater in the shunted group than control (p<0.05). The frontal occipital horn ratio in both groups was within normal range., Discussion: Chiari I anatomy after a ventriculoperitoneal shunt could develop in children and we propose a "posterior cranial fossa disproportion" rather than a "cephalocranial disproportion."

Abstract: Aortico-left ventricular tunnel is a rare congenital anomaly that presents as aortic regurgitation and congestive heart failure in childhood. Its association with a ventricular septal defect is even more rare. Because of the distortion of the normal anatomy around the aortic valve and the rarity of this combination of defects, the diagnosis of aortico-left ventricular tunnel with ventricular septal defect may be difficult. The two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiographic findings of aortico-left ventricular tunnel are described.

Abstract: Two-dimensional echocardiography can diagnose hypoplastic left heart syndrome. However, with the advent of the possibility of palliative open heart surgery, complete anatomic diagnosis is necessary. The anatomic findings of 15 neonates with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (age 1 to 10 days, mean 4.1) who had two-dimensional Doppler echocardiographic studies were compared with the results obtained by angiography (6 cases), surgery (11 cases) and autopsy (8 cases). Complete two-dimensional echocardiographic examination of the aortic arch, pulmonary and systemic venous return, atrial septum, ductus arteriosus and proximal coronary arteries was possible in all 15 neonates and correctly diagnosed hypoplastic left heart syndrome in each. Anatomic two-dimensional echocardiographic assessment was accurate in 13 (86%) of the 15 neonates and there were no false positive results. Undiagnosed associated abnormalities were hypoplasia of a left pulmonary artery in one patient and left superior vena cava in another. Accurate quantitation of the size of the tricuspid valve anulus, ascending aorta, pulmonary anulus and right and left pulmonary arteries was possible. Doppler examination was performed in seven patients and confirmed retrograde aortic arch flow and right to left systolic shunting in the patent ductus arteriosus. In selected neonates, surgical palliation can be attempted without angiography.

32. Hypothermia for the treatment of postsurgical greatly accelerated junctional ectopic tachycardia.

Abstract: Three infants developed greatly accelerated junctional ectopic tachycardia with a heart rate greater than 200 beats/min after open heart surgery. When the heart rate exceeded 200 beats/min for 5 hours, all the infants had congestive heart failure and clinical signs of low cardiac output. Conventional therapy (cardioversion, lidocaine, verapamil, digoxin and ice to face) has been shown in the past to be unsuccessful in controlling the heart rate. Because hypothermia is known to decrease automaticity of the heart, these patients were treated with induced hypothermia. The goal was to arbitrarily decrease the junctional ectopic rate to less than 180 beats/min to increase cardiac filling time. The duration of the junctional ectopic tachycardia greater than 180 beats/min ranged from 0.5 to 17 hours after cooling began. The duration of the hypothermia ranged from 4 to 24 hours. Spontaneous reversion to sinus rhythm occurred either during the hypothermia or shortly thereafter in all three patients. The blood pressure and urinary output remained stable during hypothermia. Hypothermia is an effective means of controlling the rate of greatly accelerated junctional ectopic tachycardia after open heart surgery in infants. Although hypothermia does not convert junctional ectopic tachycardia to sinus rhythm, it slows the rate to a more acceptable level, allowing the infants' survival and eventual recovery of sinus rhythm.
