Although the relationships between depressive symptoms and harm avoidance, locus of control, and repetitive thinking have been studied in many studies, there is no research including these variables together in the literature. In this study, a moderated mediation model proposed by Hayes (2013) was tested to examine the mediating effect of repetitive thinking between harm avoidance and depressive symptoms, and to examine the moderating effect of the locus of control on this mediation model. The sample consists of 359 university students in Ege University. Temperament Character Inventory-Harm Avoidance Subscale, Repetitive Thinking Questionnaire, Locus of Control Scale, Beck Depression Inventory were used as data collection tools. According to the results, repetitive thinking had a partial mediating effect on the relationships between harm avoidance and depressive symptoms. Moreover, locus of control had a moderating effect on the relationship between harm avoidance and depressive symptoms which was mediated by repetitive thinking. It has been found that this mediation is stronger as the external locus of control increases. While supporting the importance of cognitive behavioral therapy in reducing depressive symptoms, these findings emphasize that rumination-focused techniques may also contribute to the treatment. Objective: In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the relationship between vitamin D level and pain severity, localization and duration in patients with non-specific musculoskeletal pain. Materials and Methods: Patients who applied to physical medicine and rehabilitation outpatient clinics due to non-specific muscle pain in 19 centers in Turkey were retrospectively screened. Three thousand four hundred fourpatients were included in the study, whose pain level was determined by visual analog scale (VAS) and the painful region, duration of pain and vitamin D level were reached. D group was found to be D deficient (group 1) when 25 (OH) D level was 20 ng/mL or less and group D 2 (vitamin D deficiency) was higher than 30 ng/mL (group 3). The groups were compared in terms of pain duration, localization and severity. In addition, the correlations of pain localization, severity and duration with vitamin D levels were examined. Results: D vitamin deficiency was detected in 2202 (70.9%) of 3 thousand four hundred and four registered patients, and it was found that vitamin D deficiency in 516 (16.6%) and normal vitamin D in 386 (12.4%). The groups were similar in terms of age, body mass index, income level, duration of complaint, education level, family type and working status (p>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between groups in terms of VAS, pain localization and duration scores (p>0.05). Conclusion: Our study shows that vitamin D deficiency in patients with nonspecific musculoskeletal pain is not associated with the severity and duration of pain.

In this paper, a dual band implantable split-ring microstrip antenna which operates at MICS (Medical Implant Services) and ISM (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) bands is proposed for using biomedical telemetry applications. A miniaturized size of 9.5 mm x 9.5 mm x 1.27 mm is accomplished by using three split-ring resonators and meander lines slots on these resonators. There useful paths between resonators is used for optimization. Also, a shorting pin inserted between the patch and ground plane is used for the antenna miniaturization. The proposed split-ring implantable antenna presents 23.5% and 9.3% bandwidth, -48 dB and -24 dB maximum gains, 407 W/kg and 403 W/kg maximum I-g averaged SAR values at the respective bands. In this paper, only numerical results for the proposed design are presented.

Contains fulltext : 34519.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Myosin XVA is an unconventional myosin which has been implicated in autosomal recessive nonsyndromic hearing impairment (ARNSHI) in humans. In Myo15A mouse models, vestibular dysfunction accompanies the autosomal recessive hearing loss. Genomewide homozygosity mapping and subsequent fine mapping in two Turkish families with ARNSHI revealed significant linkage to a critical interval harboring a known deafness gene MYO15A on chromosome 17p13.1-17q11.2. Subsequent sequencing of the MYO15A gene led to the identification of a novel missense mutation, c.5492G-->T (p.Gly1831Val) and a novel splice site mutation, c.8968-1G-->C. These mutations were not detected in additional 64 unrelated ARNSHI index patients and in 230 Turkish control chromosomes. Gly1831 is a conserved residue located in the motor domains of the different classes of myosins of different species. Molecular modeling of the motor head domain of the human myosin XVa protein suggests that the Gly1831Val mutation inhibits the powerstroke by reducing backbone flexibility and weakening the hydrophobic interactions necessary for signal transmission to the converter domain. Moebius syndrome is a rare disorder primarily characterized by congenital facial palsy, frequently accompanied by ocular abduction anomalies, and occasionally associated with orofacial, limb and musculoskeletal malformations. Abnormal development of cranial nerves V through XII underlines the disease pathogenesis. Although some investigations suggested that a causative gene may lie on 13q12.2-q13, there have been no molecular studies targeting possible microdeletions in this region to date. In the present study, we performed microdeletion analyses on 13q12.11-q13 in nine patients, and sequenced three candidate genes in nineteen patients for functional relevance and further resolution of our screening. We ruled out microdeletions on the critical region as a common cause of Moebius syndrome and excluded FGF9, GSH1 and CDX2 genes. © 2009 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved. PubMedID: 23940374 Hemiplegic shoulder pain is common in stroke survivors, developing in up to 54% of patients. The underlying mechanisms include soft tissue lesions, impaired motor function and central nervous system-related phenomena. Hemiplegic shoulder pain has many underlying causes and is challenging to manage, requiring a team approach, including physicians, therapists and caregivers. The management strategy must target the underlying causes. Preventative measures, such as positioning and handling, can reduce the risk of developing hemiplegic shoulder pain. We have reviewed the literature on hemiplegic shoulder pain, and used this to categorise the underlying mechanisms, and to explore the best management strategies.

Presented is an electrically small multiband monopole antenna based on complementary split-ring resonators, which are used to reduce antenna size. The antenna is fed by a three-stage microstrip line and provides 13, 17 and 16% impedance bandwidth performance covering the 3.5 GHz WiMAX and 2.4/5.2 GHz WLAN bands. Also, the proposed antenna exhibits almost an omnidirectional radiation pattern in the H-plane and a dipole-like radiation pattern in the E-plane. The return loss and radiation pattern measurements of the fabricated antenna are in very good agreement with simulation results.

A dual-wideband coplanar waveguide-fed monopole antenna based on complementary split-ring (CSR) resonators is introduced for wireless fidelity and worldwide interoperability for microwave access applications.The proposed CSR monopole antenna has a compact size and provides 31.5% and 9.4% impedance bandwidth at the respective bands. The antenna exhibits uniform radiation patterns at each frequency band. Analysis and design of the proposed antenna are performed by means of Ansoft HFSS. The measurement results of the fabricated antenna are in good agreement with the simulation results. (C) 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study compares pauses, repetitions and recasts in matched task interactions under face-to-face and computer-mediated conditions. Six first-year English undergraduates at a Turkish University took part in Skypebased voice chat with a native speaker and face-to-face with their instructor. Preliminary quantitative analysis of transcripts showed that there were frequent instances of pauses, repetitions and recasts under both conditions. One-way variance analysis of the data demonstrated that the comparative frequency of pauses, repetitions and recasts did not differ statistically significantly under the two conditions. A semi-structured interview with the participants on perceived causes of such frequent elements suggested social and emotional reasons for hesitation, pauses, recasts and repetitions. These small-scale and preliminary findings suggest that further exploration of these modes of communication is merited, and that social and emotional factors may exert a common influence on the linguistic elements studied under both conditions. © The Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology.
