1. Examining the Professional Dedication Levels of Special Education Teachers Working in Primary School According to Different Variables

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to examine the professional commitment levels of special education teachers working in inclusive classes in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), according to different variables. This study used a relational survey model, which is a quantitative research method. A total of 130 special education teachers working in special education schools participated in this research during the 2021-2022 academic year. In the study, "Demographic Information Form" and "Teaching Professional Commitment Scale" were used as data collection tools. According to the findings obtained from the research, no significant differences were found in special education teachers' professional commitment according to age, gender, marital status, professional seniority, support from colleagues, and support from administrators. Significant differences were found in special education teachers' professional commitment according to educational status, job satisfaction, and wage satisfaction. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research, it has been revealed that special education teachers who are satisfied with their job are highly committed to their profession, self-sacrificing and devoted to their students.

2. Critical Thinking Dispositions of Undergraduate Art Education and History Students

Abstract: In an ever-changing world, we have been witnessing many developments in our lives. A way to keep up with these developments will be possible through necessary skills such as critical thinking. In the literature, art education is suggested specifically as a contributor for creative skill development and critical thinking skills. The objective of this study was to examine and evaluate students' critical thinking skills based on undergraduate subject area of study. Accordingly, students' critical thinking skills were examined within critical thinking sub-dimensions in addition to variables of gender, age, and year of study. The sample groups consisted of undergraduate freshman and senior students studying Art Education and History. The study was structured according to the relational screening model, and the "Cornell Critical Thinking Test Level Z" (CCTT-Z) was used to measure critical thinking skills. Results of the study revealed that, critical thinking skill levels of the students were low in both cohorts and there was no statistically significant difference according to study areas. The results also showed no meaningful difference in critical thinking skills of freshman and senior students within the group who are studying Art Education. Similarly, demographics such as gender and year of study made no particular difference in terms of students' critical thinking scores. The cohort of 25-30 age group showed a relatively positive difference in terms of age variable as compared to other cohorts. It was concluded that critical thinking skills could be supported by means of designing a curriculum that encourages and develops critical thinking skills and creative thinking through specific educational strategies.

3. Teaching Spatial Concepts to Children with Intellectual Disabilities: A Comparison of Simultaneous Prompting Presented via Tablets and Visual Cards

Abstract: This study aims to compare the efficacy of simultaneous prompting presented via tablets and visual cards in the instruction of spatial concepts to students with intellectual disabilities. A mobile learning software was developed within portable devices by using simultaneous prompting method to teach spatial concepts. The adapted alternating treatments design which is one of the single-subject research methods was used in the study. The dependent variables of the research are left-right, near-far, up-down concepts and independent variables are simultaneous prompting presented with tablet and simultaneous prompting presented with visual cards. A total of 3 students, 1 girl and 2 boys, studying at a private special education school participated in this research. Teaching sessions were held in an individual teaching arrangement. Results were analyzed by graphical analysis. According to the results of the research, it was concluded that there are different levels of effectiveness between teaching with simultaneous prompting presented with tablets and visual cards. It has been found that simultaneous prompting presented with tablets is more efficient than teaching with simultaneous prompting presented with visual cards. Two of the participants were found to have retained the concepts after 1, 3, and 5 weeks.

4. Simplicial degree $d$ self-maps on $n$-spheres

Abstract: The degree of a map between orientable manifolds is a crucial concept in topology, providing deep insights into the structure and properties of the manifolds and the corresponding maps. This concept has been thoroughly investigated, particularly in the realm of simplicial maps between orientable triangulable spaces. In this paper, we concentrate on constructing simplicial degree $d$ self-maps on $n$-spheres. We describe the construction of several such maps, demonstrating that for every $d \in \mathbb{Z} \setminus {0}$, there exists a degree $d$ simplicial map from a triangulated $n$-sphere with $3|d| + n - 1$ vertices to $\mathbb{S}^n_{n+2}$. Further, we prove that, for every $d \in \mathbb{Z} \setminus {0}$, there exists a simplicial map of degree $3 d$ from a triangulated $n$-sphere with $6|d| + n$ vertices, as well as a simplicial map of degree $3d+\frac{d}{|d|}$ from a triangulated $n$-sphere with $6|d|+n+3$ vertices, to $\mathbb{S}^{n}_{n+2}$. Furthermore, we show that for any $|k| \geq 2$ and $n \geq |k|$, a degree $k$ simplicial map exists from a triangulated $n$-sphere $K$ with $|k| + n + 3$ vertices to $\mathbb{S}^n_{n+2}$. We also prove that for $d = 2$ and 3, these constructions produce vertex-minimal degree $d$ self-maps of $n$-spheres. Additionally, for every $n \geq 2$, we construct a degree $n+1$ simplicial map from a triangulated $n$-sphere with $2n + 4$ vertices to $\mathbb{S}^{n}_{n+2}$. 5. Trophic Cascades and Habitat Suitability in Udanti Sitnadi Tiger Reserve: Impacts of Prey Depletion and Climate Change on Predator Prey Dynamics

Abstract: This study investigates the trophic cascades and habitat suitability in Udanti Sitnadi Tiger Reserve (USTR), highlighting the roles of apex predators, subordinate predators, and prey species in maintaining ecosystem balance. Using the Trophic Species Distribution Model (SDM), we explored prey-predator interactions and habitat suitability, revealing that tigers, due to prey depletion, increasingly rely on cattle, while leopards adapt by preying on smaller species. The study emphasizes the need for prey augmentation and habitat restoration to support apex predators. Additionally, climate change projections for 2021-2040 and 2081-2100 under CMIP6 scenarios SSP245 and SSP585 indicate significant regional habitat shifts, necessitating adaptive management strategies. Kuladighat is projected to face habitat contraction, while Sitanadi may experience habitat expansion. Effective conservation efforts such as habitat restoration, prey augmentation and predator recovery are the most important steps needed to maintain the purpose of a Tiger reserve and conservation potential of Udanti-Sonabeda Tiger Conservation Unit (TCU). To achieve these dynamics, focusing on community participation, anti-poaching measures, and scientific recommendations are the most crucial components to focus on. This comprehensive analysis underscores the critical role of targeted conservation activities in prey-depleted landscapes to ensure the long-term survival of tigers and the overall health of forest ecosystems, enhancing biodiversity and mitigating human-wildlife conflicts in USTR.

6. Dogs on forest trails; Understanding ecology of Striped Hyena and wild Canids in the presence of free-ranging dogs in Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, Central India using Joint Distribution and Deep Neural Networks

Abstract: This study uses Joint Species Distribution Models (JSDMs) and Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) to explore how wild carnivores and free-ranging dogs interact in the Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve (USTR) in Central India. The research focuses on key species like the Striped Hyena, Grey Wolf, Golden Jackal, and Indian Fox, revealing significant overlaps in habitat with free-ranging dogs, especially in densely populated areas like the Sitanadi region of the tiger reserve. These overlaps pose serious risks to wildlife through competition for resources, predation, and the spread of diseases. The study shows that the Striped Hyena prefers gentle slopes and forested areas, while the Grey Wolf tends to avoid cropland and thrives in regions with higher rainfall that supports a stable prey base. The Golden Jackal, more adaptable than the others, favors west-facing slopes and stable temperatures, whereas the Indian Fox is mainly found in the less disturbed, mountainous Kuladighat region. Additionally, the study highlights the potential impacts of climate change, predicting that the Grey Wolf could face habitat extinction under more severe scenarios. These findings underscore the urgent need for conservation strategies tailored to address both dog wild carnivore interactions and the growing challenges posed by climate change, focusing on protecting the critical habitats of vulnerable species like the Striped Hyena and Grey Wolf.

7. Cross Sectional Regression with Cluster Dependence: Inference based on Averaging

Abstract: We re-investigate the asymptotic properties of the traditional OLS (pooled) estimator, $\hat{\beta} _P$, with cluster dependence. The present study considers various scenarios under various restrictions on the cluster sizes and number of clusters. It is shown that $\hat{\beta}_P$ could be inconsistent in many realistic situations. We propose a simple estimator, $\hat{\beta}_A$ based on data averaging. The asymptotic properties of $\hat{\beta}_A$ is studied. It is shown that $\hat{\beta}_A$ is consistent even when $\hat{\beta}_P$ is inconsistent. It is further shown that the proposed estimator $\hat{\beta}_A$ could be more efficient as compared to $\hat{\beta}_P$ in many practical scenarios. As a consequence of averaging, we show that $\hat{\beta}_A$ retains consistency, asymptotic normality under classical measurement error problem circumventing the use of IV. A detailed simulation study shows the efficacy of $\hat{\beta}_A$. It is also seen that $\hat{\beta}_A$ yields better goodness of fit.

8. Magneto tunnel conductance across twisted Weyl semimetal junctions

Abstract: We investigate magnetotransport across an interface between two Weyl semimetals (finite in both directions) whose Weyl nodes project onto two different surfaces which are twisted with respect to each other before being coupled. This gives rise to a novel contribution to the conductance through the junction purely through Fermi arc states, even in the absence of a magnetic field perpendicular to the junction. When the perpendicular magnetic field is included, we find that for a mesoscopic or smaller samples, the transverse Fermi arc states have a significant contribution to the conductance for experimentally relevant fields, and need to be taken into account along with the conductance through the bulk chiral Landau levels., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures

9. Crystallizations of small covers over the $n$-simplex $\Delta^n$ and the prism $\Delta^{n-1} \times I$

Abstract: A small cover is a closed manifold $M^n$ with a locally standard $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-action such that its orbit space is a simple convex polytope $P^n$. In this article, we study the crystallizations of small covers over the $n$-simplex $\Delta^n$ and the prism $\Delta^{n-1} \times I$. It is known that the small cover over the $n$-simplex $\Delta^n$ is $\mathbb{RP}^n$. For every $n\geq 2$, we prove that $\mathbb{RP}^n$ has a unique $2^n$-vertex crystallization. We also demonstrate that there are exactly $1 + 2^{n-1}$ D-J equivalence classes of small covers over the prism $\Delta^{n-1} \times I$, where $n\geq 3$. For each $\mathbb{Z}_2$-characteristic function of $\Delta^{n-1} \times I$, we construct a $2^{n-1}(n+1)$-vertex crystallization of the small cover $M^n(\lambda)$ with regular genus $1 + 2^{n-4}(n^2 - 2n - 3)$, where $n\geq 4$. 10. The Wood-Saxon proton optical potential for p-nuclei

Abstract: A phenomenological mass-energy dependent proton optical model potential has been computed for p-nuclei. The parameters of the Wood-Saxon optical potential are found to be a good fit for proton elastic scattering data involving p-nuclei and elements with mass numbers near p-nuclei (within the range of 74 < A < 148) at energies around the Coulomb barrier of the system. The elastic scattering data were meticulously fitted using the SFRESCO code, allowing for the calculation of the real and imaginary parts of the Wood Saxon optical potential. To validate the model, experimental proton capture cross-sections for 106Cd and 113In near the Coulomb barrier were compared with results obtained using the TALYS-1.96 code, showing better agreement than the available global proton optical model potential.

Abstract: Large angular scale surveys in the absence of atmosphere are essential for measuring the primordial $B$-mode power spectrum of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). Since this proposed measurement is about three to four orders of magnitude fainter than the temperature anisotropies of the CMB, in-flight calibration of the instruments and active suppression of systematic effects are crucial. We investigate the effect of changing the parameters of the scanning strategy on the in-flight calibration effectiveness, the suppression of the systematic effects themselves, and the ability to distinguish systematic effects by null-tests. Next-generation missions such as LiteBIRD, modulated by a Half-Wave Plate (HWP), will be able to observe polarisation using a single detector, eliminating the need to combine several detectors to measure polarisation, as done in many previous experiments and hence avoiding the consequent systematic effects. While the HWP is expected to suppress many systematic effects, some of them will remain. We use an analytical approach to comprehensively address the mitigation of these systematic effects and identify the characteristics of scanning strategies that are the most effective for implementing a variety of calibration strategies in the multi-dimensional space of common spacecraft scan parameters. We also present Falcons, a fast spacecraft scanning simulator that we developed to investigate this scanning parameter space.

12. SceneTeller: Language-to-3D Scene Generation

Abstract: Designing high-quality indoor 3D scenes is important in many practical applications, such as room planning or game development. Conventionally, this has been a time-consuming process which requires both artistic skill and familiarity with professional software, making it hardly accessible for layman users. However, recent advances in generative AI have established solid foundation for democratizing 3D design. In this paper, we propose a pioneering approach for text-based 3D room design. Given a prompt in natural language describing the object placement in the room, our method produces a high-quality 3D scene corresponding to it. With an additional text prompt the users can change the appearance of the entire scene or of individual objects in it. Built using in-context learning, CAD model retrieval and 3D-Gaussian-Splatting-based stylization, our turnkey pipeline produces state-of-the-art 3D scenes, while being easy to use even for novices. 13. An Adaptive Image-denoising Method Based on Jump Regression and Local Clustering

Abstract: Image denoising is crucial for reliable image analysis. Researchers from diverse fields have long worked on this, but we still need better solutions. This article focuses on efficiently preserving key image features like edges and structures during denoising. Jump regression analysis is commonly used to estimate true image intensity amid noise. One approach is adaptive smoothing, which uses various local neighborhood shapes and sizes based on empirical data, while another is local pixel clustering to reduce noise while maintaining important details. Abstract: Crime prediction is a widely studied research problem due to its importance in ensuring safety of city dwellers. Starting from statistical and classical machine learning based crime prediction methods, in recent years researchers have focused on exploiting deep learning based models for crime prediction. Deep learning based crime prediction models use complex architectures to capture the latent features in the crime data, and outperform the statistical and classical machine learning based crime prediction methods. However, there is a significant research gap in existing research on the applicability of different models in different real-life scenarios as no longitudinal study exists comparing all these approaches in a unified setting. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive experimental evaluation of all major state-of-the-art deep learning based crime prediction models. Our evaluation provides several key insights on the pros and cons of these models, which enables us to select the most suitable models for different application scenarios. DAS, a pivotal concept in blockchain technology and decentralized networks, is thoroughly examined to unravel its intricacies and assess its impact on system performance. Through the development of a simulator tailored explicitly for DAS, we embark on a comprehensive investigation into the parameters that influence system behavior and efficiency. A series of experiments are conducted within the simulated environment to validate theoretical formulations and dissect the interplay of DAS parameters. This includes an exploration of approaches such as custody by row, variations in validators per node, and malicious nodes. The outcomes of these experiments furnish insights into the efficacy of DAS protocols and pave the way for the formulation of optimization strategies geared towards enhancing decentralized network performance. Abstract: We assess the capabilities of the LiteBIRD mission to map the hot gas distribution in the Universe through the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effect. Our analysis relies on comprehensive simulations incorporating various sources of Galactic and extragalactic foreground emission, while accounting for specific instrumental characteristics of LiteBIRD, such as detector sensitivities, frequency-dependent beam convolution, inhomogeneous sky scanning, and $1/f$ noise. We implement a tailored component-separation pipeline to map the thermal SZ Compton $y$-parameter over 98% of the sky. Despite lower angular resolution for galaxy cluster science, LiteBIRD provides full-sky coverage and, compared to the Planck satellite, enhanced sensitivity, as well as more frequency bands to enable the construction of an all-sky $y$-map, with reduced foreground contamination at large and intermediate angular scales. By combining LiteBIRD and Planck channels in the component-separation pipeline, we obtain an optimal $y$-map that leverages the advantages of both experiments, with the higher angular resolution of the Planck channels enabling the recovery of compact clusters beyond the LiteBIRD beam limitations, and the numerous sensitive LiteBIRD channels further mitigating foregrounds. The added value of LiteBIRD is highlighted through the examination of maps, power spectra, and one-point statistics of the various sky components. After component separation, the $1/f$ noise from LiteBIRD is effectively mitigated below the thermal SZ signal at all multipoles. Cosmological constraints on $S_8=\sigma_8\left(\Omega_{\rm m}/0.3\right)^{0.5}$ obtained from the LiteBIRD-Planck combined $y$-map power spectrum exhibits a 15% reduction in uncertainty compared to constraints from Planck alone. Abstract: We study a canonical collective action game with incomplete information. Individuals attempt to coordinate to achieve a shared goal, while also facing a temptation to free-ride. Consuming more similar information about the fundamentals can help them coordinate, but it can also exacerbate free-riding. Our main result shows that more similar information facilitates (impedes) achieving a common goal when achieving the goal is sufficiently challenging (easy). We apply this insight to show why insufficiently powerful authoritarian governments may face larger protests when attempting to restrict press freedom, and why informational diversity in committees is beneficial when each vote carries more weight.

19. Temperature Distribution Prediction in Laser Powder Bed Fusion using Transferable and Scalable Graph Neural Networks

Abstract: This study presents novel predictive models using Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) for simulating thermal dynamics in Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) processes. By developing and validating Single-Laser GNN (SL-GNN) and Multi-Laser GNN (ML-GNN) surrogates, the research introduces a scalable data-driven approach that learns fundamental physics from small-scale Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations and applies them to larger domains. Achieving a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 3.77% with the baseline SL-GNN model, GNNs effectively learn from high-resolution simulations and generalize well across larger geometries. The proposed models capture the complexity of the heat transfer process in L-PBF while significantly reducing computational costs. For example, a thermomechanical simulation for a 2 mm x 2 mm domain typically requires about 4 hours, whereas the SL-GNN model can predict thermal distributions almost instantly. Calibrating models to larger domains enhances predictive performance, with significant drops in MAPE for 3 mm x 3 mm and 4 mm x 4 mm domains, highlighting the scalability and efficiency of this approach. Additionally, models show a decreasing trend in Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) when tuned to larger domains, suggesting potential for becoming geometry-agnostic. The interaction of multiple lasers complicates heat transfer, necessitating larger model architectures and advanced feature engineering. Using hyperparameters from Gaussian process-based Bayesian optimization, the best ML-GNN model demonstrates a 46.4% improvement in MAPE over the baseline ML-GNN model. In summary, this approach enables more efficient and flexible predictive modeling in L-PBF additive manufacturing.

20. Identifying fatigue crack initiation through analytical calculation of temporal compliance calibrated with Computed Tomography

Abstract: Fatigue failure is ubiquitous in engineering applications. While the total fatigue life is critical to understanding a component's operational life, for safety, regulatory compliance, and predictive maintenance, the characterization of initiation life is important. Traditionally, initiation life is characterized by potential drop method, acoustic emission technique, and strain-based measurements. However, the primary challenge with these methods lies in the necessity of calibration for each new material system. The difficulties become even more aggravated for additively manufactured components, where fatigue properties are reported to vary widely in the open literature. In this work, an analytical methodology is utilized to evaluate the initiation life of two different materials such as AlSi10Mg and SS316L, fabricated via laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF) technique. The processing parameters are selected such that AlSi10Mg behaves like a brittle material while SS316L shows ductile behavior. A custom fatigue testing apparatus is used inside Computed Tomography (CT) for evaluating fatigue initiation. The apparatus reports load-displacement data, which is post-processed using an analytical approach to calculate the evolution of material compliance. The results indicate that crack initiation during fatigue loading is marked by a noticeable change in compliance. The analytical technique shows a maximum difference of 4.8% in predicting initiation life compared to CT imaging. These findings suggest that compliance monitoring can effectively identify fatigue initiation in various materials.

Abstract: The degree of a map between orientable manifolds is a fundamental concept in topology that aids in understanding the structure and properties of the manifolds and the maps between them. Numerous studies have been conducted on the degree of maps between orientable topological spaces. For each $d \in \mathbb{Z}$, we construct a degree $ d$ simplicial map from a $(2(n+1) \max\{|d|,1\})$-facet colored triangulation of $\mathbb{S}^{n-1} \times \mathbb{S}^1$ to the standard $ 2(n+1) $-facet colored triangulation of $ \mathbb{S}^{n-1} \times \mathbb{S}^1 $. We demonstrate that these are the minimal possible colored triangulations for a degree $d $ simplicial self-map of $\mathbb{S}^{n-1} \times \mathbb{S}^1 $, where $n \geq 2 $. Abstract: We present results from a search for X-ray/gamma-ray counterparts of gravitational-wave (GW) candidates from the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) network using the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (Swift-BAT). The search includes 636 GW candidates received in low latency, 86 of which have been confirmed by the offline analysis and included in the third cumulative Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalogs (GWTC-3). Targeted searches were carried out on the entire GW sample using the maximum--likelihood NITRATES pipeline on the BAT data made available via the GUANO infrastructure. We do not detect any significant electromagnetic emission that is temporally and spatially coincident with any of the GW candidates. We report flux upper limits in the 15-350 keV band as a function of sky position for all the catalog candidates. For GW candidates where the Swift-BAT false alarm rate is less than 10$^{-3}$ Hz, we compute the GW--BAT joint false alarm rate. Finally, the derived Swift-BAT upper limits are used to infer constraints on the putative electromagnetic emission associated with binary black hole mergers., Comment: 50 pages, 10 figures, 4 tables

23. Inflationary Gravitational Waves as a probe of the unknown post-inflationary primordial Universe

Abstract: One of the key predictions of the standard inflationary paradigm is the quantum mechanical generation of the transverse and traceless tensor fluctuations due to the rapid accelerated expansion of space, which later constitute a stochastic background of primordial gravitational waves (GWs). The amplitude of the (nearly) scale-invariant inflationary tensor power spectrum at large scales provides us with crucial information about the energy scale of inflation in the case of the minimal inflaton coupling to gravity. Furthermore, the spectral energy density, $\Omega_{_{\rm GW}}(f)$, of the GWs at sufficiently small scales (or, large frequencies $f$) serves as an important observational probe of post-inflationary primordial dynamics. In fact, the small-scale spectral tilt, $n_{_{\rm GW}} = \frac{{\rm d}\log{\Omega_{_{\rm GW}}}}{{\rm d}\log{f}}$, of the spectral energy density of GWs is sensitive to the (unknown) post-inflationary equation of state (EoS), $w$, of the universe; with a softer EoS ($w < 1/3$) leading to a red tilt: $n_{_{\rm GW}} < 0$, while a stiffer EoS ($w > 1/3$) resulting in a blue tilt: $n_{_{\rm GW}} > 0$. The post-inflationary dynamics, however, is generically expected to be quite complex, potentially involving a number of distinct phases. Hence, in this work, we discuss the possibility of multiple sharp transitions, namely $w_1 \to w_2 \to w_3 \to ... \to w_n$, in the EoS of the post-inflationary universe and compute the corresponding spectral energy density of the inflationary GWs. 24. Estimating centrality in heavy-ion collisions using Transfer Learning technique

Abstract: In this study, we explore the applicability of Transfer Learning techniques for estimating collision centrality in terms of the number of participants ($N_{\rm part}$) in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. In the present work, we leverage popular pre-trained CNN models such as VGG16, ResNet50, and DenseNet121 to determine $N_{\rm part}$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV on an event-by-event basis. Remarkably, all three models achieved good performance despite the pre-trained models being trained for databases of other domains. Particularly noteworthy is the superior performance of the VGG16 model, showcasing the potential of transfer learning techniques for extracting diverse observables from heavy-ion collision data., Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures

25. Perceived Contact with Friends from Lower Socioeconomic Status Reduces Exclusion Based on Social Class

Abstract: This study investigated children's and adolescents' reasoning about intergroup exclusion based on social class from educational opportunities in Türkiye. The role of children's and adolescents' perceived contact with friends from different socioeconomic backgrounds on their evaluations of exclusion and personal solutions to the exclusion was also examined. Participants (N = 270) included 142 children (8-10 years old, M[subscript age] = 9.80; SD = 0.82; 53.5% girls) and 128 adolescents (14-16 years old, M[subscript age] = 15.46; SD = 0.91, 61.7% girls) from lower (N = 144) and higher (N = 126) socioeconomic backgrounds. Results showed that while most participants viewed social class-based exclusion as wrong, adolescents were more likely to view it as wrong than were children. Adolescents from lower SES approached social class-based exclusion as less acceptable than did adolescents from higher SES who referred to expectations about conformity to authority and the status quo. Moderation analyses showed that for adolescents from higher SES, higher perceived contact with friends from lower SES was associated with decreased acceptability of exclusion and increased motivation to provide equity.

26. Effect of First-Semester Basic Design Studio on Architecture Students' Creative Skills: A Pre- and Post-Test Assessment

Abstract: The present study focuses on assessing first-year architecture students' creative skills by examining the changes in their cognitive skills due to curricular intervention and revealing the possible effects of personality and motivation factors. An experimental research design with related groups pre-and post-test approach was adopted, and a multiple-assessment test battery was developed based on the literature. The pre-and post-test approach was used to evaluate whether (1) the curricular intervention in the first-semester basic design course affected the cognitive skills of the students, (2) there was a significant change in personality and motivation factors of the students, and (3) the effects of the curricular intervention could be isolated from the changes in personality and motivation factors. The responses to the pre-and post-test were statistically analyzed, and findings indicated that the curricular intervention in the first-semester basic design course enhanced the fluency and flexibility dimensions in students' divergent thinking skills to a greater extent and originality to a lesser extent in visual and verbal stimuli tasks. Such increase was found to be independent of the changes in personality and motivation factors. Rather, it was related to the curricular tasks provided to the students throughout the semester.

Abstract: Activation of PINK1 and Parkin in response to mitochondrial damage initiates a response that includes phosphorylation of RAB7A at Ser72. Rubicon is a RAB7A binding negative regulator of autophagy. The structure of the Rubicon:RAB7A complex suggests that phosphorylation of RAB7A at Ser72 would block Rubicon binding. Indeed, in vitro phosphorylation of RAB7A by TBK1 abrogates Rubicon:RAB7A binding. Pacer, a positive regulator of autophagy, has an RH domain with a basic triad predicted to bind an introduced phosphate. Consistent with this, Pacer-RH binds to phosho-RAB7A but not to unphosphorylated RAB7A. In cells, mitochondrial depolarization reduces Rubicon:RAB7A colocalization whilst recruiting Pacer to phospho-RAB7A-positive puncta. Pacer knockout reduces Parkin mitophagy with little effect on bulk autophagy or Parkin-independent mitophagy. Rescue of Parkin-dependent mitophagy requires the intact pRAB7A phosphate-binding basic triad of Pacer. Together these structural and functional data support a model in which the TBK1-dependent phosphorylation of RAB7A serves as a switch, promoting mitophagy by relieving Rubicon inhibition and favoring Pacer activation.

Abstract: Power side-channel (PSC) analysis is pivotal for securing cryptographic hardware. Prior art focused on securing gate-level netlists obtained as-is from chip design automation, neglecting all the complexities and potential side-effects for security arising from the design automation process. That is, automation traditionally prioritizes power, performance, and area (PPA), sidelining security. We propose a "security-first" approach, refining the logic synthesis stage to enhance the overall resilience of PSC countermeasures. We introduce ASCENT, a learning-and-search-based framework that (i) drastically reduces the time for post-design PSC evaluation and (ii) explores the security-vs-PPA design space. Thus, ASCENT enables an efficient exploration of a large number of candidate netlists, leading to an improvement in PSC resilience compared to regular PPA-optimized netlists. 29. Average edge order of normal $3$-pseudomanifolds

Abstract: In their work [9], Feng Luo and Richard Stong introduced the concept of the average edge order, denoted as $\mu_0(K)$. They demonstrated that if $\mu_0(K)\leq \frac{9}{2}$ for a closed $3$-manifold $K$, then $K$ must be a sphere. Building upon this foundation, Makoto Tamura extended similar results to $3$-manifolds with non-empty boundaries in [10, 11]. In our present study, we extend these findings to normal $3$-pseudomanifolds. Specifically, we establish that for a normal $3$-pseudomanifold $K$ with singularities, $\mu_0(K)\geq\frac{30}{7}$. Moreover, equality holds if and only if $K$ is a one-vertex suspension of $\mathbb{RP}^2$ with seven vertices. Furthermore, we establish that when $\frac{30}{7}\leq\mu_0(K)\leq\frac{9}{2}$, the $3$-pseudomanifold $K$ can be derived from some boundary complexes of $4$-simplices by a sequence of possible operations, including connected sums, bistellar $1$-moves, edge contractions, edge expansions, vertex folding, and edge folding. Abstract: Elicitation interviews are the most common requirements elicitation technique, and proficiency in conducting these interviews is crucial for requirements elicitation. Traditional training methods, typically limited to textbook learning, may not sufficiently address the practical complexities of interviewing techniques. Practical training with various interview scenarios is important for understanding how to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts. However, there is a shortage of educational interview material, as creating interview scripts requires both technical expertise and creativity. To address this issue, we develop a specialized GPT agent for auto-generating interview scripts. The GPT agent is equipped with a dedicated knowledge base tailored to the guidelines and best practices of requirements elicitation interview procedures. We employ a prompt chaining approach to mitigate the output length constraint of GPT to be able to generate thorough and detailed interview scripts. This involves dividing the interview into sections and crafting distinct prompts for each, allowing for the generation of complete content for each section. 31. Holographic and Gravity-Thermodynamic Approaches in Entropic Cosmology: Bayesian Assessment using late-time Data

Abstract: We investigate the cosmological implications of entropy-based approaches in the context of Holographic Dark Energy (HDE) and Gravity-Thermodynamics (GT) formalisms. We utilise the extended Barrow entropy form, with the index parameter $\Delta$, representing the fractal dimension of the horizon. We also test implementing different parameter ranges for $\Delta$, which can be extended to Tsallis' interpretation within the same formal cosmology. We perform a Bayesian analysis to constrain the cosmological parameters using the Pantheon+, more recent DESy5, DESI, and, as a supplement, Quasar datasets. We find that the HDE model within almost all data combinations performs extremely well in comparison to the GT approach, which is usually strongly disfavored. Using the combination of DESy5+DESI alone, we find that the GT approaches are disfavored at $|\log \mathcal{B}| \sim 5.8$ and $|\log \mathcal{B}| \sim 6.2$ for the Barrow and Tsallis limits on $\Delta$, respectively, wrt $\Lambda$CDM model. While the HDE approach is statistically equivalent to $\Lambda$CDM when comparing the Bayesian evidence. Abstract: LiteBIRD, the next-generation cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiment, aims for a launch in Japan's fiscal year 2032, marking a major advancement in the exploration of primordial cosmology and fundamental physics. Orbiting the Sun-Earth Lagrangian point L2, this JAXA-led strategic L-class mission will conduct a comprehensive mapping of the CMB polarization across the entire sky. During its 3-year mission, LiteBIRD will employ three telescopes within 15 unique frequency bands (ranging from 34 through 448 GHz), targeting a sensitivity of 2.2\,$\mu$K-arcmin and a resolution of 0.5$^\circ$ at 100\,GHz. Its primary goal is to measure the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ with an uncertainty $\delta r = 0.001$, including systematic errors and margin. If $r \geq 0.01$, LiteBIRD expects to achieve a $>5\sigma$ detection in the $\ell=$2-10 and $\ell=$11-200 ranges separately, providing crucial insight into the early Universe. Abstract: The quasi-two-dimensional magnetic topological insulator MnBi$_2$Se$_4$, stabilized via non-equilibrium molecular beam epitaxy, is investigated by resonant soft x-ray scattering. Kiessig fringes are observed, confirming a high sample quality and a thin film thickness of 10 septuple layers ($\sim$13 nm). An antiferromagnetic Bragg peak is observed at the structurally forbidden reflection, whose magnetic nature is validated by studying its temperature, energy, and polarization dependence. Through a detailed analysis, an A-type antiferromagetic order with in-plane moments is implied. This alternative spin structure in MnBi$_2$Se$_4$, in contrast to the Ising antiferromagnetic states in other magnetic topological insulators, might be relevant for hosting new topological states.

34. Surface roughness-informed fatigue life prediction of L-PBF Hastelloy X at elevated temperature

Abstract: Additive manufacturing, especially laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), is widely used for fabricating metal parts with intricate geometries. However, parts produced via L-PBF suffer from varied surface roughness which affects the dynamic or fatigue properties. Accurate prediction of fatigue properties as a function of surface roughness is a critical requirement for qualifying L-PBF parts. In this work, an analytical methodology is put forth to predict the fatigue life of L-PBF components having heterogeneous surface roughness. Thirty-six Hastelloy X specimens are printed using L-PBF followed by industry-standard heat treatment procedures. Half of these specimens are built with as-printed gauge sections and the other half is printed as cylinders from which fatigue specimens are extracted via machining. Specimens are printed in a vertical orientation and an orientation 30 degree from the vertical axis. The surface roughness of the specimens is measured using computed tomography and parameters such as the maximum valley depth are used to build an extreme value distribution. Fatigue testing is conducted at an isothermal condition of 500-degree F. It is observed that the rough specimens fail much earlier compared to the machined specimens due to the deep valleys present on the surfaces of the former ones. The valleys act as notches leading to high strain localization. Following this observation, a functional relationship is formulated analytically that considers surface valleys as notches and correlates the strain localization around those notches with fatigue life, using the Coffin-Manson-Basquin and Ramberg-Osgood equation. In conclusion, the proposed analytical model successfully predicts the fatigue life of L-PBF specimens at an elevated temperature undergoing different strain loadings.

35. Formation and decay of oscillons after inflation in the presence of an external coupling, Part-I: Lattice simulations

Abstract: We investigate the formation and decay of oscillons during the post-inflationary reheating epoch from inflaton oscillations around asymptotically flat potentials $V(\varphi)$ in the presence of an external coupling of the form $\frac{1}{2}\, g^2 \, \varphi^2 \, \chi^2$. It is well-known that in the absence of such an external coupling, the attractive self-interaction term in the potential leads to the formation of copious amounts of long-lived oscillons both for symmetric and asymmetric plateau potentials. We perform a detailed numerical analysis to study the formation of oscillons in the $\alpha$-attractor E- and T-model potentials using the publicly available lattice simulation code ${\cal C}$osmo${\cal L}$attice. We observe the formation of nonlinear oscillon-like structures with the average equation of state $\langle w_\varphi\rangle \simeq 0$ for a range of values of the inflaton self-coupling $\lambda$ and the external coupling $g^2$. Our results demonstrate that oscillons form even in the presence of an external coupling and we determine the upper bound on $g^2$ which facilitates oscillon formation. We also find that eventually, these oscillons decay into the scalar inflaton radiation as well as into the quanta of the offspring field $\chi$. Thus, we establish the possibility that reheating could have proceeded through the channel of oscillon decay, along with the usual decay of the oscillating inflaton condensate into $\chi$ particles. 36. Scalable Test Generation to Trigger Rare Targets in High-Level Synthesizable IPs for Cloud FPGAs

Abstract: High-Level Synthesis (HLS) has transformed the development of complex Hardware IPs (HWIP) by offering abstraction and configurability through languages like SystemC/C++, particularly for Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) accelerators in high-performance and cloud computing contexts. These IPs can be synthesized for different FPGA boards in cloud, offering compact area requirements and enhanced flexibility. HLS enables designs to execute directly on ARM processors within modern FPGAs without the need for Register Transfer Level (RTL) synthesis, thereby conserving FPGA resources. While HLS offers flexibility and efficiency, it also introduces potential vulnerabilities such as the presence of hidden circuitry, including the possibility of hosting hardware trojans within designs. In cloud environments, these vulnerabilities pose significant security concerns such as leakage of sensitive data, IP functionality disruption and hardware damage, necessitating the development of robust testing frameworks. This research presents an advanced testing approach for HLS-developed cloud IPs, specifically targeting hidden malicious functionalities that may exist in rare conditions within the design. The proposed method leverages selective instrumentation, combining greybox fuzzing and concolic execution techniques to enhance test generation capabilities. Evaluation conducted on various HLS benchmarks, possessing characteristics of FPGA-based cloud IPs with embedded cloud related threats, demonstrates the effectiveness of our framework in detecting trojans and rare scenarios, showcasing improvements in coverage, time efficiency, memory usage, and testing costs compared to existing methods.

37. Evaluating Quantumness, Efficiency and Cost of Quantum Random Number Generators via Photon Statistics

Abstract: Despite the availability of commercial QRNG devices, distinguishing between PRNG and QRNG outputs computationally remains challenging. This paper presents two significant contributions from the perspectives of QRNG manufacturers and users. For manufacturers, the conventional method of assessing the quantumness of single-photon-based QRNGs through mean and variance comparisons of photon counts is statistically unreliable due to finite sample sizes. Given the sub-Poissonian statistics of single photons, confirming the underlying distribution is crucial for validating a QRNG's quantumness. We propose a more efficient two-fold statistical approach to ensure the quantumness of optical sources with the desired confidence level. Additionally, we demonstrate that the output of QRNGs from exponential and uniform distributions exhibit similarity under device noise, deriving corresponding photon statistics and conditions for $\epsilon$-randomness. From the user's perspective, the fundamental parameters of a QRNG are quantumness (security), efficiency (randomness and random number generation rate), and cost. Our analysis reveals that these parameters depend on three factors, expected photon count per unit time, external reference cycle duration, and detection efficiency. A lower expected photon count enhances security but increases cost and decreases the generation rate. A shorter external reference cycle boosts security but must exceed a minimum threshold to minimize timing errors, with minor impacts on cost and rate. Lower detection efficiency enhances security and lowers cost but reduces the generation rate. Finally, to validate our results, we perform statistical tests like NIST, Dieharder, AIS-31, ENT etc. over the data simulated with different values of the above parameters. Our findings can empower manufacturers to customize QRNGs to meet user needs effectively.

38. Switched Vector Field-based Guidance for General Reference Path Following in Planar Environment

Abstract: Reference path following is a key component in the functioning of almost all engineered autonomous agents. Among several path following guidance methods in existing literature, vector-field-based guidance approach has got wide attention because of its simplicity and guarantee of stability under a broad class of scenarios. However, the usage of same cross-track-error-dependent structure of desired vector field in most of the existing literature irrespective of instantaneous cross-track error and course angle of unmanned vehicle makes it quite restrictive in attaining faster convergence and also leads to infeasibly high turn rate command for many scenarios. To this end, this paper presents a novel switched vector field-based guidance for following a general reference path, in which the structure of the desired vector field depends on instantaneous cross-track-error and vehicle's course angle. While the developed method ensures faster convergence, it also ensures that the guidance command always stays within a realistic threshold satisfying its curvature constraint, thus making it more real-life implementable for autonomous vehicles with kino-dynamic constraints. Theoretical analysis for convergence of the developed guidance scheme is presented. Possibilities of undesirable chattering at phase transitions are also eliminated. Numerical simulation studies are presented to validate the satisfactory performance of the developed algorithm.

39. LatentColorization: Latent Diffusion-Based Speaker Video Colorization

Abstract: While current research predominantly focuses on image-based colorization, the domain of video-based colorization remains relatively unexplored. Most existing video colorization techniques operate on a frame-by-frame basis, often overlooking the critical aspect of temporal coherence between successive frames. This approach can result in inconsistencies across frames, leading to undesirable effects like flickering or abrupt color transitions between frames. To address these challenges, we harness the generative capabilities of a fine-tuned latent diffusion model designed specifically for video colorization, introducing a novel solution for achieving temporal consistency in video colorization, as well as demonstrating strong improvements on established image quality metrics compared to other existing methods. Furthermore, we perform a subjective study, where users preferred our approach to the existing state of the art. Our dataset encompasses a combination of conventional datasets and videos from television/movies. In short, by leveraging the power of a fine-tuned latent diffusion-based colorization system with a temporal consistency mechanism, we can improve the performance of automatic video colorization by addressing the challenges of temporal inconsistency. Abstract: The correlation of light from two sources leads to an interference pattern if they belong to a specific time interval known as the coherence time, denoted as $\Delta \tau$. The relationship governing this phenomenon is $\Delta \tau \Delta \nu \approx 1$, where $\Delta \nu$ represents the bandwidth of the light. This requirement is not satisfied, and hence, interference fringes are not observable in the case of ordinary (thermal) light. In the 1950s, Robert Hanbury Brown and Richard Q. Twiss explored interference phenomena using a narrow bandwidth of thermal light. This investigation led to the discovery of the Hanbury-Brown and Twiss effect (or the HBT effect in short), which has since found applications in various fields, particularly stellar observations and quantum optics. Abstract: For certain families of $L$-functions, we prove that if each $L$-function in the family has only real zeros in a fixed yet arbitrarily small neighborhood of $s=1$, then one may considerably improve upon the known results on Landau-Siegel zeros. Abstract: This paper describes our system developed for the SemEval-2024 Task 1: Semantic Textual Relatedness. The challenge is focused on automatically detecting the degree of relatedness between pairs of sentences for 14 languages including both high and low-resource Asian and African languages. Our team participated in two subtasks consisting of Track A: supervised and Track B: unsupervised. This paper focuses on a BERT-based contrastive learning and similarity metric based approach primarily for the supervised track while exploring autoencoders for the unsupervised track. Abstract: We report the observation of a coalescing compact binary with component masses $2.5\text{-}4.5~M_\odot$ and $1.2\text{-}2.0~M_\odot$ (all measurements quoted at the 90% credible level). The gravitational-wave signal GW230529_181500 was observed during the fourth observing run of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA detector network on 2023 May 29 by the LIGO Livingston Observatory. The primary component of the source has a mass less than $5~M_\odot$ at 99% credibility. We cannot definitively determine from gravitational-wave data alone whether either component of the source is a neutron star or a black hole. However, given existing estimates of the maximum neutron star mass, we find the most probable interpretation of the source to be the coalescence of a neutron star with a black hole that has a mass between the most massive neutron stars and the least massive black holes observed in the Galaxy. We provisionally estimate a merger rate density of $55^{+127}_{-47}~\text{Gpc}^{-3}\,\text{yr}^{-1}$ for compact binary coalescences with properties similar to the source of GW230529_181500; assuming that the source is a neutron star-black hole merger, GW230529_181500-like sources constitute about 60% of the total merger rate inferred for neutron star-black hole coalescences. 45. Do LLMs Find Human Answers To Fact-Driven Questions Perplexing? A Case Study on Reddit

Abstract: Large language models (LLMs) have been shown to be proficient in correctly answering questions in the context of online discourse. However, the study of using LLMs to model human-like answers to fact-driven social media questions is still under-explored. In this work, we investigate how LLMs model the wide variety of human answers to fact-driven questions posed on several topic-specific Reddit communities, or subreddits. We collect and release a dataset of 409 fact-driven questions and 7,534 diverse, human-rated answers from 15 r/Ask{Topic} communities across 3 categories: profession, social identity, and geographic location. We find that LLMs are considerably better at modeling highly-rated human answers to such questions, as opposed to poorly-rated human answers. 46. Timelike Entanglement Entropy and Phase Transitions in non-Conformal Theories

Abstract: We propose a holographic formalism for a timelike entanglement entropy in non-conformal theories. This pseudoentropy is a complex-valued measure of information, which, in holographic non-conformal theories, receives contributions from a set of spacelike surfaces and a finite timelike bulk surface with mirror symmetry. We suggest a method of merging the surfaces so that the boundary length of the subregion is exclusively specified by holography. We show that in confining theories, the surfaces can be merged in the bulk at the infrared tip of the geometry and are homologous to the boundary region. The timelike entanglement entropy receives its imaginary and real contributions from the timelike and the spacelike surfaces, respectively. Additionally, we demonstrate that in confining theories, there exists a critical length within which a connected non-trivial surface can exist, and the imaginary part of the timelike entanglement entropy is non-zero. Therefore, the timelike entanglement entropy exhibits unique behavior in confining theories, making it a probe of confinement and phase transitions. Finally, we discuss the entanglement entropy in Euclidean spacetime in confining theories and the effect of a simple analytical continuation from a spacelike subsystem to a timelike one., Comment: 1+32 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: The quasi-two-dimensional magnetic topological insulator MnBi2Se4, stabilized via nonequilibrium molecular beam epitaxy, is investigated by resonant soft x-ray scattering. Kiessig fringes are observed, confirming a high sample quality and a thin film thickness of 10 septuple layers (∼13 nm). An antiferromagnetic Bragg peak is observed at the structurally forbidden reflection, whose magnetic nature is validated by studying its temperature, energy, and polarization dependence. Through a detailed analysis, an A-type antiferromagetic order with in-plane moments is implied. This alternative spin structure in MnBi2Se4, in contrast to the Ising antiferromagnetic states in other magnetic topological insulators, might be relevant for hosting new topological states.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: A phase I clinical study for patients with locally advanced H&N cancer with a new class of botanical drug APG-157 provided hints of potential synergy with immunotherapy. We sought to evaluate the efficacy of the combination of APG-157 and immune checkpoint inhibitors. METHODS: CCL23, UM-SCC1 (human), and SCCVII (HPV-), MEER (HPV+) (murine) H&N cancer cell lines were utilized for in vitro and in vivo studies. We measured tumor growth by treating the mice with APG-157, anti-PD-1, and anti-CTLA-4 antibody combinations (8 groups). The tumor microenvironments were assessed by multi-color flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and RNA-seq analysis. Fecal microbiome was analyzed by 16S rRNA sequence. RESULTS: Among the eight treatment groups, APG-157 + anti-CTLA-4 demonstrated the best tumor growth suppression (p = 0.0065 compared to the control), followed by anti-PD-1 + anti-CTLA-4 treatment group (p = 0.48 compared to the control). Immunophenotype showed over 30% of CD8+ T cells in APG-157 + anti-CTLA-4 group compared to 4%-5% of CD8+ T cells for the control group. Differential gene expression analysis revealed that APG-157 + anti-CTLA-4 group showed an enriched set of genes for inflammatory response and apoptotic signaling pathways. The fecal microbiome analysis showed a substantial difference of lactobacillus genus among groups, highest for APG-157 + anti-CTLA-4 treatment group. We were unable to perform correlative studies for MEER model as there was tumor growth suppression with all treatment conditions, except for the untreated control group. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that APG-157 and immune checkpoint inhibitor combination treatment could potentially lead to improved tumor control.

49. AssetHarvester: A Static Analysis Tool for Detecting Assets Protected by Secrets in Software Artifacts

Abstract: GitGuardian monitored secrets exposure in public GitHub repositories and reported developers leaked over 12 million secrets (database and other credentials) in 2023, indicating a 113% surge from 2021. Despite the availability of secret detection tools, developers ignore the tools' reported warnings because of false positives (25%-99%). However, each secret protects assets of different values accessible through asset identifiers (a DNS name and a public or private IP address). The asset information for a secret can aid developers in filtering false positives and prioritizing secret removal from the source code. However, existing secret detection tools do not provide the asset information, thus presenting difficulty to developers in filtering secrets only by looking at the secret value or finding the assets manually for each reported secret. The goal of our study is to aid software practitioners in prioritizing secrets removal by providing the assets information protected by the secrets through our novel static analysis tool. We present AssetHarvester, a static analysis tool to detect secret-asset pairs in a repository. Since the location of the asset can be distant from where the secret is defined, we investigated secret-asset co-location patterns and found four patterns. To identify the secret-asset pairs of the four patterns, we utilized three approaches (pattern matching, data flow analysis, and fast-approximation heuristics). We curated a benchmark of 1,791 secret-asset pairs of four database types extracted from 188 public GitHub repositories to evaluate the performance of AssetHarvester. AssetHarvester demonstrates precision of (97%), recall (90%), and F1-score (94%) in detecting secret-asset pairs. Our findings indicate that data flow analysis employed in AssetHarvester detects secret-asset pairs with 0% false positives and aids in improving the recall of secret detection tools.

50. From Virtual Reality to the Emerging Discipline of Perception Engineering

Abstract: This paper makes the case that a powerful new discipline, which we term perception engineering, is steadily emerging. It follows from a progression of ideas that involve creating illusions, from historical paintings and film, to video games and virtual reality in modern times. Rather than creating physical artifacts such as bridges, airplanes, or computers, perception engineers create illusory perceptual experiences. The scope is defined over any agent that interacts with the physical world, including both biological organisms (humans, animals) and engineered systems (robots, autonomous systems). The key idea is that an agent, called a producer, alters the environment with the intent to alter the perceptual experience of another agent, called a receiver. Most importantly, the paper introduces a precise mathematical formulation of this process, based on the von Neumann-Morgenstern notion of information, to help scope and define the discipline. It is then applied to the cases of engineered and biological agents with discussion of its implications on existing fields such as virtual reality, robotics, and even social media.
