1. The Effects of Integrated Mathematics and Life Sciences Teaching on Primary School Students' Value Acquisition

Abstract

A subject worth examining was the interdisciplinary approach's planning and application of two distinct disciplines and investigating the value acquisition inclinations of students who participated in the multidisciplinary approach. In this context, the problem sentence of the research is that: Does integrate mathematics and life sciences teaching have an effect on primary school 3rd-grade students' acquisition of honesty, respect, love, and helpfulness values?". The impact of integrated Mathematics and Life Sciences teachings in third grade on students' honesty, respect, love, and helpfulness value dispositions was studied using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group and the theme of "tolerance." As the data collection tools of the research, the "Honesty Value achievement Scale," "Love achievement Scale," "Respect achievement Scale," and "Helpfulness achievement Scale" was applied to the students in the sample. This research was conducted in three stages: preliminary preparations before application, integration of disciplines, lesson plan preparation, and actual application. There was a significant difference in favor of the experimental group when comparing students taught integrated mathematics and life sciences versus retrained students using a Ministry of National Education-approved course and workbook. In addition, there was a significant difference in favor of the post-test between the pretest-posttest scores of the honesty, respect, love, and helpfulness values belonging to the students in the experimental group taught integrated mathematics and life sciences.

4. Relationship with Nut Consumption for Breakfast and Postprandial Glucose, Insulin, Triglyceride Responses: A Preliminary Study from Türkiye.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of adding nuts to a regular breakfast on blood glucose, insulin, and triglyceride levels, and to evaluate participants' opinions by sex as a preliminary study for future studies. Data and biochemical parameters were collected through face-to-face interviews with Acibadem Hospital employees (n = 12) between April and September 2023. Participants consumed 30 g of nut-supplemented breakfasts for 4 weeks while maintaining their regular lifestyle. Blood tests and visual analog scale (VAS) parameters were assessed on intervention days. VAS scores indicated differences in meal taste, post-breakfast well-being, satiety, and meal adequacy, and for "feeling better after breakfast", and "providing better satiety", were significantly higher for the nut-supplemented breakfasts (p < 0.05), especially walnut-supplemented. Under the control of age, sex, and BMI variables in the participants, women responded better to peanut butter consumption than men in terms of blood insulin and triglyceride regulation (p < 0.05). However, triglyceride regulation in men was better managed by walnut consumption than in women. Understanding how nut-supplemented breakfasts impact blood glucose, insulin, and triglyceride levels, as well as consumer perceptions, is crucial for promoting healthier dietary choices. 6. The Using of IWBs by Primary School Teachers in Mathematics Classrooms

Abstract

This study aims to explore potential answers to the question of how and why IWBs are used during mathematics classes organised by teachers in a primary school. Qualitative data was obtained from primary school teachers through the use of observation forms and semi-structured interviews. The results of this study indicate that despite some large class sizes, the IWBs were deemed to be successful in motivating students. However, according to findings of this study, it is highly possible to be argued that teachers used their boards for a restricted range of functions. Although they did use the IWB frequently, they encountered a series of difficulties. For instance, calibration problem of IWBs and restricted training can just be samples. Despite of these kinds of problems, most participants valued the use of IWBs overwhelmingly positively. The study concludes with some recommendations for future practice and research.

Abstract

Background: the aim of this randomized placebo-controlled study was to investigate the effect of probiotics mainly on plasma lipids, homocysteine levels, glycemic biomarkers and inflammatory marker in people with hyperlipidemia, compared to a placebo. Methods: a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled study was completed with a total of 51 men and women who have diagnosed with hyperlipidemia. The three study interventions were: 1) probiotic group I asked to take once a day 1 x 106 colony forming unit (CFU) Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG microorganism (n = 18) capsule; 2) probiotic group II asked to take once a day of a combined Lactobacillus acidophilus 1 x 109 CFU and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis 1 x 109 CFU probiotic capsule (n = 17); and 3) placebo group: emptied capsule (n = 16), plasma lipids, homocysteine, and glycemic biomarkers were were performed at baseline and week 8. Also, hs-CRP levels was assessed as inflammatory parameter. Results: compared to baseline there was a significant decrease in triglyceride and total cholesterol levels of the both intervention groups compared to the placebo group. Regarding the glycemic biomarkers. both intervention groups significantly alter the HOMA-IR values compared to the placebo group (p < 0.05). When homocysteine values were evaluated. a statistically significant decrease was observed only in the group using the combined strain (p < 0.05). Results demonstrated that regular and strain-specific use of probiotics have effective and favorable consequences on plasma lipids and glycemic biomarkers. Conclusion: probiotics containing Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium could be effective in hypercholesterolemic patients, reducing serum lipids as well as homocysteine and glycaemia. Abstract

Da Richtlinien zur Differentialdiagnostik der zervikalen Lymphadenopathie fehlen, wird an vielen Kliniken ein klinikinternes diagnostisches Schema verwendet, das nicht auf einer empirischen Datenlage beruht. Im Rahmen der Untersuchung wurde die Population über einen Zeitraum von 5 Jahren hinsichtlich der spezifischen Entitäten und deren Korrelation mit morphologischen und demographischen Kriterien untersucht. Anhand der Daten wurde ein diagnostischer Algorithmus zur Unterscheidung zwischen lymphatischen und metastatischen Erkrankungen entwickelt., As there are no commonly accepted diagnostic guidelines to differentiate between various disease entities in cervical lympahdenopathy most clinics utilize an in-house diagnostic scheme that is not based on empirical data. The study population was examined over a period of five years. Data was analyzed with respect to specific disease entities and their correlation with morphological and demographic criteria. Based on these results, a diagnostic algorithm was developed to differentiate between lymphatic and metastatic diseases.

13. Effects of Dietary Carbohydrate Concentration and Glycemic Index on Blood Glucose Variability and Free Fatty Acids in Individuals with Type 1 Diabetes.

Abstract

Monitoring glycemic control status is the cornerstone of diabetes management. This study aimed to reveal whether moderate-carbohydrate (CHO) diets increase the risk of free fatty acid (FFA) levels, and it presents the short-term effects of four different diet models on blood sugar, glycemic variability (GV), and FFA levels. This crossover study included 17 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus to identify the effects of four diets with different CHO contents and glycemic index (GI) on GV and plasma FFA levels. Diet 1 (D1) contained 40% CHO with a low GI, diet 2 (D2) contained 40% CHO with a high GI, diet 3 (D3) contained 60% CHO with a low GI, and diet 4 (D4) contained 60% CHO with a high GI. Interventions were performed with sensor monitoring in four-day periods and completed in four weeks. No statistical difference was observed among the groups in terms of blood glucose area under the curve (p = 0.78), mean blood glucose levels (p = 0.28), GV (p = 0.59), and time in range (p = 0.567). FFA and total triglyceride levels were higher in the D1 group (p < 0.014 and p = 0.002, respectively). Different diets may increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases by affecting GI, FFA, and blood glucose levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) are associated with cardiometabolic diseases and social inequities. For most nations, recent estimates and trends of intake are not available; nor variation by education or urbanicity. We investigated SSB intakes among adults between 1990 and 2018 in 185 countries, stratified subnationally by age, sex, education, and rural/urban residence, using data from the Global Dietary Database. In 2018, mean global SSB intake was 2.7 (8 oz = 248 grams) servings/week (95% UI 2.5-2.9) (range: 0.7 (0.5-1.1) in South Asia to 7.8 (7.1-8.6) in Latin America/Caribbean). Intakes were higher in male vs. female, younger vs. older, more vs. less educated, and urban vs. rural adults. Variations by education and urbanicity were largest in Sub-Saharan Africa. Between 1990 and 2018, SSB intakes increased by +0.37 (+0.29, +0.47), with the largest increase in Sub-Saharan Africa. These findings inform intervention, surveillance, and policy actions worldwide, highlighting the growing problem of SSBs for public health in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Abstract

The global burden of diet-attributable type 2 diabetes (T2D) is not well established. This risk assessment model estimated T2D incidence among adults attributable to direct and body weight-mediated effects of 11 dietary factors in 184 countries in 1990 and 2018. In 2018, suboptimal intake of these dietary factors was estimated to be attributable to 14.1 million (95% uncertainty interval (UI), 13.8–14.4 million) incident T2D cases, representing 70.3% (68.8–71.8%) of new cases globally. Largest T2D burdens were attributable to insufficient whole-grain intake (26.1% (25.0–27.1%)), excess refined rice and wheat intake (24.6% (22.3–27.2%)) and excess processed meat intake (20.3% (18.3–23.5%)). Across regions, highest proportional burdens were in central and eastern Europe and central Asia (85.6% (83.4–87.7%)) and Latin America and the Caribbean (81.8% (80.1–83.4%)); and lowest proportional burdens were in South Asia (55.4% (52.1–60.7%)). Proportions of diet-attributable T2D were generally larger in men than in women and were inversely correlated with age. Diet-attributable T2D was generally larger among urban versus rural residents and higher versus lower educated individuals, except in high-income countries, central and eastern Europe and central Asia, where burdens were larger in rural residents and in lower educated individuals. Compared with 1990, global diet-attributable T2D increased by 2.6 absolute percentage points (8.6 million more cases) in 2018, with variation in these trends by world region and dietary factor. These findings inform nutritional priorities and clinical and public health planning to improve dietary quality and reduce T2D globally.

Abstract

Animal-source foods (ASF) provide nutrition for children and adolescents’ physical and cognitive development. Here, we use data from the Global Dietary Database and Bayesian hierarchical models to quantify global, regional and national ASF intakes between 1990 and 2018 by age group across 185 countries, representing 93% of the world’s child population. Mean ASF intake was 1.9 servings per day, representing 16% of children consuming at least three daily servings. Intake was similar between boys and girls, but higher among urban children with educated parents. Consumption varied by age from 0.6 at <1 year to 2.5 servings per day at 15–19 years. Between 1990 and 2018, mean ASF intake increased by 0.5 servings per week, with increases in all regions except sub-Saharan Africa. In 2018, total ASF consumption was highest in Russia, Brazil, Mexico and Turkey, and lowest in Uganda, India, Kenya and Bangladesh. These findings can inform policy to address malnutrition through targeted ASF consumption programmes.

33. Dieting, Dietary Restraint, and Binge Eating Disorder among Overweight Adolescents in Turkey

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship among dieting, dietary restraint, disinhibition, hunger, and binge eating among overweight adolescent girls. Participants were 743 overweight adolescent girls between 16 and 19 years of age. The mean BMI was 24.9 [+ or -] 0.8 kg/[m[superscript 2] in the low-restraint group and 25.1 [+ or -] 0.8 kg/[m[superscript]2] in the high-restraint group (p less than 0.05). Twenty percent of participants in the low-restraint group and 72% of those in the high-restraint group followed weight management practices for losing weight. The mean total TFEQ score was 21.5 [+ or -] 7.8 for chronic dieters and 25.5 [+ or -] 8.7 for non-chronic dieters. Chronic dieter participants had significantly lower scores than non-chronic dieters (p less than 0.05). Findings indicate that overweight adolescents (dieting 5-10 times or more than 10 times in the past year) reported higher disinhibition and hunger scores than others (no dieting in the past year). Also, adolescents with BED reported significantly higher scores of disinhibition and hunger than did adolescents with non-BED. Conversely, overweight adolescents with BED showed significantly higher cognitive restraint scores than did adolescents with non-BED. In sum, high scores on restraint, hunger, and disinhibition of overweight adolescent girls as measured by the TFEQ, are associated with low self-esteem, high social physique anxiety, and high trait anxiety. Abstract

There is a broad understanding that relationship exist between leaders behavior and employees reaction in particularly in sense of presenteeism that ensures the good health of employees. However, we agree that much less is understood about potential mediating processes that underline the links between supervisory support, presenteeism and employees support. İn this study, the indicators of employees performance, linked with presenteeism, while supervisors support playing as mediator. We linked social learning thoery, where individuals are valuing overserable behaviors. The findings of the study, revealed positive relationship between presenteeism and employees performance at Erzincan state of Turkey. The study found, positive mediation of supervisory support between presenteeism and employees performance. The relationship of the research model was tested with the help of implementation of adopted questionnares from 280 individuals who responded to the questionnare as the potential participants. The analysis explored positive remarks of the hypothesis (accepted). The findings of the study, contributes both academic and non-academic arena, leading to potential understanding and importance of both presenteeism and supervisory support., Existe un amplio entendimiento de que existe una relación entre el comportamiento de los líderes y la reacción de los empleados, particularmente en el sentido de presentismo que asegura la buena salud de los empleados. Sin embargo, estamos de acuerdo en que se entiende mucho menos sobre los posibles procesos de mediación que subrayan los vínculos entre el apoyo de los supervisores, el presentismo y el apoyo de los empleados. En este estudio, los indicadores de desempeño de los empleados, vinculados al presentismo, mientras que los supervisores apoyan jugar como mediadores. Vinculamos la técnica del aprendizaje social, en la que los individuos valoran los comportamientos que se pueden superponer. Los hallazgos del estudio revelaron una relación positiva entre el presentismo y el desempeño de los empleados en el estado de Erzincan en Turquía. El estudio encontró una mediación positiva del apoyo de los supervisores entre el presentismo y el desempeño de los empleados. La relación del modelo de investigación se probó con la ayuda de la implementación de cuestionarios adoptados de 280 personas que respondieron al cuestionario como posibles participantes. El análisis exploró comentarios positivos de la hipótesis (aceptada). Los hallazgos del estudio contribuyen a la arena académica y no académica, lo que lleva a una posible comprensión e importancia tanto del presentismo como del apoyo de los supervisores.

40. Eating Attitudes and Their Psychological Correlates among Turkish Adolescents

Abstract

This study examined the eating attitudes and psychological characteristics of Turkish late adolescents. Seven hundred eighty-three university students were administered the Eating Attitudes Test, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Social Physique Anxiety Scale. More than one in ten (9.2% of the males and 13.1% of the females) had abnormal eating attitude scores. Chi-square analysis revealed that there were no significant differences in the prevalance of abnormal eating behaviors based on gender. Analysis of covariance indicated that participants who had disturbed eating attitudes had lower self-esteem, higher social physique anxiety, and higher trait anxiety than those who had normal eating attitudes. It was concluded that the prevalence of disturbed eating attitudes was high among these Turkish late adolescents, and that disturbed eating attitudes were related to several psychological characteristics.
