Nel presente contributo viene approfondito l’approccio ai regimi finanziari ponendo particolare attenzione alla modellazione matematica dei requisiti fondativi. Le funzioni che si ricavano, utilizzate poi effettivamente nella pratica finanziaria ai fini computazionali, risultano così esplicitamente come risultato di un modello che gode di precise e specifiche proprietà. La trattazione è svolta definendo tutti i concetti e le grandezze in gioco e non sono dunque necessari prerequisiti di finanza, mentre l’attenzione rispetto alla modellazione matematica richiede di sacrificare l’articolazione tecnica (lasciata a ulteriori contributi successivi) in favore della linearità d’esposizione. Lo/a studente/ssa si troverà così a padroneggiare modelli di Matematica applicata costruiti dalle basi della matematica elementare e di cui, dunque, sono esplicitate le proprietà e l’utilità pratica. Quanto segue costituisce per il docente un percorso didattico, non esplicitato nei testi normalmente adottati, che, con l’impiego di una quantità di tempo supplementare modesta, colloca le prime nozioni di Matematica finanziaria in un contesto più organico, appropriato e generale, legato sia alle strutture matematiche utilizzate sia alle proprietà finanziarie del modello.

Il presente Volume è concepito come completamento ed estensione del Testo “Matematica Finanziaria” dei medesimi Autori e ne condivide l’impostazione di tipo problem solving. Lo sviluppo di numerosi Casi di Studio è realizzato ponendo particolare attenzione alla modellazione del problema, effettuata anche per via grafica. Dal lato risolutivo, i metodi sono spiegati nel dettaglio e con cura, in particolare quando si tratta di tecniche non elementari, come ad esempio i metodi numerici che intervengono nella determinazione del Tasso Implicito. Viene inoltre ribadita l’analisi delle tecniche che coinvolgono l’utilizzo del foglio elettronico, al fine di realizzare soluzioni automatiche di ampie classi di problemi. Attraverso le apposite Sezioni denominate “Caccia all’errore” si esaminano inoltre gli errori più comuni riscontrati nelle risoluzioni e se ne esplicita l’origine, per renderne più agevole l’eliminazione. Senza l’esigenza di completezza sui fondamenti teorici, si sviluppano infine Approfondimenti e Analisi empiriche su aspetti specifici ricorrenti allo scopo di individuarne la natura pur senza l’utilizzo di tecniche matematiche non elementari.

La Matematica Finanziaria ha conosciuto negli ultimi anni un ampio sviluppo, con la formalizzazione di modelli sempre più sofisticati che intendono dominare realtà sempre più articolate. L’utilizzo di strumenti statistici e stocastici ha reso la disciplina sempre più tecnica e difficilmente accessibile nelle sue forme più avanzate a coloro che non possiedano un robusto background matematico e statistico, tra i quali sovente si ritrovano gli studenti degli attuali Corsi di Laurea delle Scuole di Economia. La doverosa attenzione per gli aspetti tecnici non deve tuttavia distogliere lo sguardo dal fatto che con gli strumenti classici si riesce ad affrontare con successo una molteplicità di problemi frequentissimi in ambito aziendale, professionale e personale. In quest’ottica, una particolare attenzione va riservata all’aspetto modellistico, la cui comprensione può sfuggire anche in situazioni relativamente semplici. La formalizzazione di un problema reale nella sua formulazione finanziaria viene spesso considerata un passaggio automatico, mentre, in una logica di problem solving, sempre più rilevante anche in ambito universitario, risulta a nostro parere in parte trascurata. Uno scopo del presente Volume è quello di enfatizzare questo approccio, tramite la proposta di molteplici problemi reali da modellare e da affrontare. Dal lato risolutivo, si sviluppano le metodologie già consolidate in letteratura, ponendo l’attenzione alla loro estensione più ampia. Si pensi ad esempio a come l’ipotesi di tasso costante nella valutazione di rendite possa essere flessibilizzata mediante articolazioni sul modello così come l’ipotesi di rata costante. I temi proposti vengono risolti per esteso e corredati di spiegazioni e considerazioni. La diffusione del foglio elettronico, inoltre, permette l’implementazione dei processi risolutivi in schemi che, opportunamente parametrizzati, risolvono un’ampia classe di problemi. In tale contesto, si intende rendere il lettore autonomo non solo nell’utilizzo di fogli preimpostati, ma anche nella redazione di proprie soluzioni che contemplino varianti alle situazioni più comuni. Pertanto le implementazioni su Microsoft Excel sono sviluppate con la stessa cura riservata alle soluzioni tradizionali. La nostra esperienza indica infatti come i laboratori informatici risultino di grande interesse e permettano non solo di presentare con il taglio concreto del problem solving i modelli risolutivi, ma anche di veicolare una maggiore comprensione dei problemi in esame. Viene posta la dovuta attenzione anche agli aspetti tecnico-informatici che via via si presentano, indicando le possibili difficoltà e le soluzioni proposte. Si intende altresì sensibilizzare ad un uso consapevole del software, cui non di rado, per ragioni di natura culturale, si tende ad affidarsi troppo. Si pensi ad esempio alla formula di conversione dei tassi proposta da Excel all’interno delle funzioni finanziarie, che risulta la classica semplificazione user friendly della realtà (formula di conversione dei tassi semplici in luogo di quella dei tassi composti), che tuttavia non è in alcun modo accettabile per chiunque si occupi di questioni finanziarie a qualsiasi livello. La traccia appena proposta, in cui la soluzione per via elettronica è integrata nel testo, consente una trattazione da un ampio punto di vista di temi per i quali gli aspetti computazionali assumono un ruolo centrale, come ad esempio le scelte tra investimenti e la conseguente introduzione del concetto di TIR/TAEG. Nell’ambito del punto di vista proposto nel presente Volume, non si rinuncia alla trattazione di alcune tematiche ulteriori che, affrontate nell’ambito dei mercati obbligazionari, consentono di giungere a conclusioni senza coinvolgere aspetti tecnici particolarmente sofisticati (calcoli in condizioni di incertezza ed uso di strumenti statistici e stocastici). L’analisi della struttura per scadenza dei tassi di interesse e della immunizzazione di portafogli consentono di introdurre alcuni principi fondamentali della finanza moderna, come quelli di arbitraggio e di hedging, e di affrontarne lo sviluppo in modo da comprenderne la natura. In tale contesto, l’utilizzo del foglio elettronico, effettuato con lo spirito già richiamato, risulta ancora una volta estremamente utile.

In social economy a great attention is devoted to non profit organizations, whose mission’s fulfillment is strongly related to the success of fund raising strategies. Then a decision support system for optimizing them is very useful. Using associations donors database a fuzzy expert system has been developed, which is able to suggest the best strategies with respect to donors profiles. This system integrates the profiles with a model for historical information evaluation and operative rules suggested by experts in the field and related literature. There are however many little and medium size organizations which don’t own or efficiently manage the donors database. In these cases another approach has been proposed, which is able to individuate the most promising raising strategies on the basis of the features of the association. The profile factors of a non profit association are widely explored and hierarchically organized in a decision tree, in order to effectively employ the Choquet integral methodology, which is recommended in these kind of multi-criteria decision problems. In the present contribution, some extensions are developed in order to enhance the first approach. In particular an integration with the second methodology is proposed, by substituting some fuzzy components with a hierarchic organization of the knowledge, that allows to use also in this context the Choquet integral, with an improvement of the tuning process and of the computational effort required. Moreover a wide analysis of donors features is performed; the donors interests evolution is managed, allowing a more precise characterization of the donors profile; an utility function approach is developed as extension of the expected gift model; new elements in the management process are modeled. The results obtained in a real operational context show the effectiveness of the proposed improvements.

Negotiation is an everyday task in economic processes; ranging from corporations to markets, from agents to nations, always there is the need to mediate between conflicting intents or expectations. Therefore, in the scientific literature and in practice, several negotiation procedures have been developed, each one elaborated to perform in a specific context and under particular assumptions, as, for example, voting systems, auction and fair division mechanisms, negotiation protocols, and so on. All these may seem disjoined from each other, as their contexts are; nevertheless they all share the same assumption that each subject pursues his own best utility. Moreover, despite their specialization, they all have some problems in practical use like, for example, the presence of a dictator, the lack of truthfulness, or the possibility of being manipulated by fictitious declarations. In this contribution we focus on the negotiation over continuous issues and in particular we analyze the jointly Improving Direction Method (IDM), which is known for its generality, since different other negotiation protocols can be seen as an its particular subclass, and also because it has the nice theoretical property of being Pareto efficient. Nevertheless it is easy to implement, which makes IDM the perfect candidate for an automated negotiation support system. Despite its theoretical properties, we show the practical inefficiency of this method (even in the simple case of just two negotiating parties), which reduces significantly its performance in the operative context. In particular we show that the main drawback of IDM is due to the possibility to retrieve information about other ones utilities during the negotiation steps and to exploit it to manipulate the negotiation itself. For better explaining this phenomenon we show the deep connection between negotiation and the social choice problem. The bridge we build allows to carry in this context the Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem and the Gibbard-Satterthwaite Theorem, thus implying that each step of IDM (and of all the methods which it generalizes) may be affected by a dictatorial or a manipulatory party who can deviate the efficient Pareto frontier to get a better gain during the negotiation. In order to avoid the operative inefficiency of IDM, we propose a different negotiation paradigm, where the hypothesis that agents maximize their own utility is not modified, while the way they pursuit maximum satisfaction is substantially different, since each agent has to express a sub optimal choice, rather than his optimal one. In this context, the constraint of a sub optimal declaration by one side protects from information retrieval and by the other side it forces each party to leave to the others the possibility to improve their own gains in order to pursue his own best. The comparison of the performances with the IDM ones in different negotiation domains, both in terms of Pareto efficiency and manipulation resistance, shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The representation property of any semi-martingale as a Brownian motion subordinated by a possibly correlated stochastic clock is used to model the risk-neutral measure of asset prices. A procedure for the non-parametric calibration of the density of the stochastic clock using cross section of market prices is proposed. The approach maps the set of market option prices contained in bid/ask intervals to a set of compatible probability measures. In contrast to other estimation approaches that derive only one density, the proposed method derives a set containing all the measures that are compatible with the observed option prices.

Time subordination represents a simple but powerful tool for modeling asset dynamics. This is theoretically founded on the property of local semi-martingales which can be represented as a time changed Brownian motion as shown by Monroe (1978). Given the non- negativeness of asset prices, here, time-changed geometric Brownian motions are considered. In particular, this formulation allows to represent option prices as averages of Black and Scholes prices. The problem of a non-parametric calibration of the subordinator distribution is focused. In particular, it is shown that a cross section of market option prices imposes a set of linear inequalities that the distribution of the subordinator has to satisfy. This results in an infinite dimensional optimization problem or in a set of semi-infinite dimensional programming models. The advantages with respect to a parametric specification consist of the fact that the problem remains linear in the unknowns. Furthermore, differently from a fully unrestricted non-parametric approach, the return distribution is always continuous. Empirical results are reported by using market option prices on the FTSE index.

The empirical performances of assuming a Levy-stable distribution for modeling the dynamics of assets is investigated in the context of option pricing. The Levy-stable settings has the advantage of allowing for extreme events, which are not captured by standard gaussian models. The performances of these models are tested by calibrating their parameters cross sections of option prices. A comparison with Black and Scholes, Dupire’s local volatility and Heston’s stochastic volatility models is also given.

Sono numerose le architetture di database alla base di software per l'ottimizzazione dell'attivita' di fund raising, strategica per le organizzazioni non profit. Con la realizzazione di un'analisi comparativa dei principali prodotti, si intende fornire uno strumento operativo per la scelta tra le diverse soluzioni disponibili o per la realizzazione di un prodotto personalizzato. I risultati dell'analisi consentono inoltre di individuare i presupposti per lo studio specifico del caso italiano.
