The aim of this brief is to present a modeling procedure for the traveling-wave analog phase shifter. The proposed approach is based on the image representation of two-port networks. Design considerations to optimize the electric performance of the component reducing also the size of the structure are discussed. A commercial software package is used for the final electric simulation of the actual phase shifters to check the validity of the analytic model presented. This paper presents an electromagnetic modeling of a grounded metallic truncated cone to be used for calibration purposes of a microwave imaging system. The basic idea is to demonstrate the equivalence between the cone and a cylinder having a suitable radius, in order to simplify the computation of its capacity with respect to ground. A mathematical expression for the capacitance of the uniform cylinder is presented, and its validity is confirmed by comparing the data provided by this formula with numerical values given by a commercial simulator. Starting from this analytic result, the model of the cone is presented, and a procedure for the choice of the cylinder radius is discussed in detail. This methodology can be applied to calculate the contribution to the stray capacitance of a metallic tip used for scanning probe microscopy, and specifically for microwave sensing applications. In particular, the capacitance due to the conic part of the probe can be quantified, an operation that is usually a difficult task when trying to separate it from contribution of the experimental setup. In this paper, a circuit model to predict the microwave response of a shunt-connected capacitive microelectromechanical coplanar switch is proposed. The numerical values of the lumped elements composing the equivalent circuit are computed by means of a fully analytic approach. In particular, the contribution of resistive and inductive parasitic elements has been evaluated by using closed-form expressions. Configurations characterized by different technological solutions have been obtained and modeled. Simulations performed with the proposed approach correlate very well with actual measurements. On the basis of a planar approach, an equivalent circuit model of MMIC overlay capacitors with feeding lines in generic position has been derived. Closed expressions for the equivalent circuit elements are presented. The validity of the proposed circuit has been successfully tested with experimental data. Its simplicity and flexibility makes it attractive for implementation in CAD packages.

In this paper the design, realization and test of a magnetostatic wave oscillator working at 14 GHz for possible use in data relay systems for ground and satellite applications will be presented. Power levels as high as 4 dBm and a tuning bandwidth of 500 MHz have been designed and obtained. Index Terms--Ferrites, magnetic films and devices, microwave materials.

A lumped element modeling of a typical distributed electromagnetic structure, namely a band-stop magnetostatic wave resonator, is presented here and validated by experimental results. The definition of a turns ratio and data on the quality factor of the resonator versus frequency allow a wideband approach to the prediction of its performances between 1 and 12 GHz. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
