The objective of this study was to examine possible antecedents and consequences of teachers' emotions in the classroom. Based on a cognitive-social perspective and self-determination theory, we examined the relationship between basic psychological needs (BPNs), teachers' class-related emotions and teachers' life satisfaction. A sample of 595 teachers from Andalusia (Spain) participated in an online survey. A structural equation model was tested, in which BPNs predicted teachers' emotions ([beta] = 0.69; p < 0.001 positive emotions and [beta] = -0.42; p < 0.001 negative emotions). In addition, BPNs ([beta] = 0.36; p < 0.001) and positive emotions ([beta] = 0.23; p < 0.001) predicted satisfaction with life. The results show that the fulfilment of work-related BPNs is important to generate positive emotions and well-being in teachers. In addition, the study is the first to provide extensive details on the psychometric properties for assessing teacher emotions with the Achievement Emotions Questionnaire - Teachers (AEQ-T) in a Spanish sample.

En los últimos años se ha puesto de manifiesto la importancia que juegan las emociones de los y las estudiantes en las clases de Educación Física. Asimismo, recientemente la novedad ha sido propuesta como candidata a ser una necesidad psicológica básica. Hasta la fecha, ningún estudio se ha centrado de manera específica en analizar las relaciones entre estos dos constructos, que es el objetivo principal del trabajo. Para ello, se testó un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales con 799 estudiantes de Educación Física con una edad media de 13.16 años (DT =1.17). Los resultados mostraron que la percepción que tienen los y las estudiantes de las estrategias de apoyo a la novedad por parte de sus docentes predijo la satisfacción de esta necesidad (ß = .81; p < .01). A su vez, la satisfacción de novedad predijo de forma positiva las emociones positivas y de manera negativa las emociones negativas, destacando las varianzas explicadas del disfrute (52 %), orgullo (41 %) y aburrimiento (37 %). Purpose: The objective of the study was to evaluate the relationships among the achievement emotions experienced during physical education classes, the intention to be physically active, and academic achievement. Methods: The sample consisted of 764 Spanish secondary education students (348 boys and 416 girls). Results: Pride, enjoyment, and hopelessness were the main emotions to explain the intention to be physically active, whereas enjoyment and boredom were the most important emotions to explain academic achievement. Given that boys had a better emotional experience than girls, the effect of gender in the prediction was studied. It highlights the significant moderating effect of gender for enjoyment and pride in the intention to be physically active. Discussion/Conclusion: These results show the need to apply strategies focused on each emotion, taking into account the students' gender, for those that help to improve their emotional experience during physical education classes.

El objetivo principal de este estudio fue analizar el poder de predicción del apoyo a la autonomía sobre las necesidades psicológicas básicas, la motivación, el rendimiento percibido de los deportistas y la intención de ser físicamente activos. Se empleó una muestra de 150 participantes con edades comprendidas entre los 12 y 18 años (M = 14.75, DT = 1.83), procedentes de escuelas deportivas de las provincias de Huelva y Sevilla. Se usó la versión española del Cuestionario de Clima en el Deporte (S-SCQ), la Escala de las Necesidades Psicológicas Básicas en el Ejercicio (BPNES), el Cuestionario de Regulación Conductual en el Deporte (BRSQ), la Medida de la Intencionalidad de seguir siendo Físicamente Activo (IPAS) y el Cuestionario del Rendimiento Percibido en el Deporte (PPSQ). Los resultados del análisis de regresión mostraron que el apoyo a la autonomía adquirió un papel esencial en la satisfacción de las necesidades psicológicas básicas. El apoyo a la autonomía, la competencia y la relación predijeron de forma positiva la regulación intrínseca. Además, la satisfacción de la relación predijo positivamente la regulación integrada y la regulación identificada. Por su parte, el apoyo a la autonomía, la competencia, la relación y la regulación integrada predijeron la intención de ser físicamente activo de forma positiva, explicando el 67% de la varianza. Por último, se encontró que la satisfacción de la competencia y la regulación externa predijeron de forma positiva el rendimiento percibido de los deportistas, explicando el 48% de la varianza.

IntroductionThis study aims to understand how emotions and motivation influence the academic achievement of physical education (PE) students and their future intention to practice physical activity (PA). Despite the influence on student’s behaviors and the reciprocal associations between motivation and emotion, the number of studies addressing both constructs at the same level is very limited.MethodsA structural equation model was used with 799 students aged 11–17 years (M = 13.16; SD = 1.17).Results and discussionThe results showed that the teacher support of the basic psychological needs (BPN) predicted students’ BPN satisfaction, which in turn predicted their autonomous motivation and positive emotions, and negatively predicted their negative emotions. Finally, autonomous motivation predicted students’ intention to be physically active, whereas academic achievement was predicted by both autonomous motivation and emotions. We conclude that to better understand the consequences of PE classes, it is necessary to consider both constructs.

The theoretical framework of the self-determination theory establishes that the satisfaction of basic psychological needs and more self-determined motivational forms are related to positive behavioral consequences and, therefore, may increase the intention to be physically active in Physical Education students. In this sense, the need for novelty has been proposed as a psychological need by recent scientific evidence, so it is necessary to prove its possible contribution to the prediction of young people’s behavior. Therefore, the main objective of the study was to test a model that analyzed the power of prediction of the satisfaction of the needs for autonomy, competence, relatedness, and novelty as well as the motivation experienced in Physical Education on the intention to be physically active. A questionnaire was administered to 1665 Physical Education students with an average age of 12.43 years (SD = 1.87), of which 835 were boys and 830 were girls. An adaptation of the Spanish educational context of the Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale (BPNES) that includes the need for novelty, the Perceived Locus of Causality Scale (PLOC), and the Intention to be Physically Active Scale (IPAS) was used. Path analysis results showed that the satisfaction of the psychological needs for autonomy, competence, relatedness, and novelty predicted autonomous motivation. On the other hand, the need for autonomy positively predicted controlled motivation, while the satisfaction of relatedness did so negatively. The need for competence and autonomous motivation positively predicted the intention to be physically active in Physical Education students, obtaining an explained variance of 33%. However, controlled motivation was not related in a statistically significant way to the intention to be physically active. In conclusion, the results of the hypothesized model highlight the importance of satisfying all the basic psychological needs (including novelty) and give special emphasis to the need for competence, since it predicts autonomous motivation and the intention to be physically active outside of the educational context.

Heat capacity measurements on the Ln = Gd case of the butterfly molecule series [Fe3Ln(μ3–O)2 (CCl3COO)8(H2O)(THF)3], in brief {Fe3LnO2}, are presented. In the previously studied {Fe3YO2} butterfly, where the magnetic properties stem only from the Fe3+ ions, magnetic chains of spin-5/2 Fe3Y clusters had been identified and described. The substitution of the nonmagnetic Y3+ ion by the magnetic Gd3+ adds magnetic interactions to the clusters, but not magnetic anisotropy. The heat capacity measurement shows an excess over the contribution of the antiferromagnetically coupled Fe3Gd magnetic clusters at very low temperature, which can be described as magnetic spin-1 chains using a Blume–Capel model. The intercluster interaction constant J ch = − 55 (5) mK is very similar to that of {Fe3YO2}, which shows that the interaction is mainly controlled by the magnitude of the cluster's magnetic moment. In recent years, the importance of students' emotions in Physical Education classes has been highlighted. Novelty has also recently been proposed as a candidate for basic psychological need. To date, no study has specifically focused on analysing the relationships between these two constructs, which is the main objective of this paper. For this purpose, a structural equation model was tested with 799 Physical Education students with a mean age of 13.16 years (SD = 1.17). The results showed that students' perception of their teachers' novelty support strategies predicted the satisfaction of this need (β = .81; p < .01). In turn, novelty satisfaction positively predicted positive emotions and negatively predicted negative emotions, with the explained variances of enjoyment (52%), pride (41%), and boredom (37%) standing out. Finally, the emotions enjoyment (β = .45; p < .01) and hopelessness (β = -.16; p < .01) predicted intention to be physically active in the future. El objetivo del estudio fue analizar el rol que puede ejercer la necesidad de novedad en la motivación humana, testando un modelo en el que se relacionaba el clima motivacional que implica a la tarea con la necesidad de novedad, la motivación intrínseca y la intención de ser físicamente activo. Se utilizó una muestra de 732 estudiantes que cursaban de 1º de ESO a 1º de Bachillerato y con una edad media de 13.92. Se emplearon el factor clima tarea del cuestionario de Medida de las Estrategias Motivacionales en las clases de Educación Física, el factor novedad de la Escala de Medición de las Necesidades Psicológicas Básicas, el factor motivación intrínseca de la Escala del Locus Percibido de Causalidad en Educación Física y la Escala de Intención de ser Físicamente Activo. Los resultados del modelo mostraron que el clima motivacional que implica a la tarea predijo positivamente la necesidad novedad, la cual predijo positivamente la motivación intrínseca y ejerció un rol mediador entra ambas. Finalmente, la motivación intrínseca predijo de forma positiva la intención de ser físicamente activo. En conclusión, este estudio ha mostrado que la propuesta de tareas, metodologías y materiales novedosos por parte del docente de Educación Física, podrían aumentar los niveles de motivación autodeterminados en el alumnado y, en consecuencia, incrementar su intención de practicar actividad física fuera del contexto escolar en un futuro. Abstract. The aim of this study was to analyze the role that novelty need can play on human motivation. For that purpose, a model that linked task-involving motivational climate, novelty need, intrinsic motivation, and intention to be physically active, was tested. A sample of 732 students enrolled from the first year of Secondary School to the first year of Baccalaureate (five courses), with mean age of 13.92 years, participated in the study. The mastery climate factor from the Measurement of Motivational Strategies in Physical Education Classes Questionnaire, the novelty factor from the Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale, the intrinsic motivation factor from the Perceived Locus of Causality Scale, and the Intention to be Physically Active Scale, were used. The model outcomes showed that task-involving motivational climate positively predicted novelty need, which positively predicted intrinsic motivation and played the role of mediator between the two of them. Finally, intrinsic motivation positively predicted intention to be physically active. In conclusion, this study has shown that Physical Education teachers’ proposal of novel tasks, methodologies, and materials, could increase self-determined levels of motivation in students and, consequently, their intention to practice physical activity outside the school context in the future.

El objetivo principal de la investigación fue evaluar la intensidad y contexto de la clase de Educación Física (EF) antes y después de una capacitación a estudiantes de Licenciatura en Actividad Física y Deporte. Para ello, se empleó un diseño cuasi-experimental pre-post con un solo grupo. Los sujetos participantes en la capacitación fueron 64 estudiantes de la Licenciatura en Actividad Física y Deporte, de la Escuela de Deportes de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (México), que cursaban la asignatura de Evaluación de la Educación Física. A estos estudiantes se les pidió diseñar y aplicar tres clases de EF antes de la capacitación y tres clases de EF después de la capacitación, realizándose la evaluación diagnóstica y sumativa respectivamente. Para hacer esta comparación se diseñó un curso de capacitación cuyos contenidos estuvieron enfocados en el objetivo, validación, descripción y sistema metodológico de registro del sistema SOFIT. Los resultados mostraron la mejora de los docentes después de la realización del curso, ya que la intensidad de la actividad física en sus clases aumentó, también lo hizo el índice de actividad física moderada a vigorosa de su alumnado, que pasó de una 37,3 % en el pretest a un 70.4% en el postest. Con respecto al contexto, se disminuyó el tiempo empleado para administrar y organizar las actividades, aprovechándose más el tiempo de clase para el acondicionamiento físico, el desarrollo de habilidades y juegos. Se concluye que el curso y el uso del SOFIT ayudaron a los estudiantes a maximizar el uso del tiempo de la clase de EF.

La motivación en la enseñanza durante la Educación Primaria parece cada vez más necesaria e importante. Por esta razón, el objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar la motivación en clases de Educación Física de primer ciclo de Primaria. Para ello, se realizaron una serie de entrevistas, tanto a docentes (n = 2) como discentes (n = 8), de un centro escolar en Huelva. Tras realizar el análisis de dichas entrevistas, se obtuvo que los docentes de Educación Física le dan mucha importancia a la motivación dentro de sus clases, pero también destacan que al profesorado no se le forma académicamente como debería en este aspecto. Los docentes también señalan que la motivación en las clases de Educación Física es muy elevada, y los discentes lo corroboran en las entrevistas realizadas. Es por ello, que el principal objetivo del docente de Educación Física debe ser mantener la motivación en el desarrollo de sus clases. Por esta razón, se presentan una serie de estrategias prácticas para mantener o mejorar la motivación en las clases de Educación Física.

El objetivo de este trabajo fue realizar una revisión sistemática para conocer el estado actual del estudio de las relaciones entre los factores sociales de la teoría de metas de logro y la teoría de la autodeterminación, las necesidades psicológicas básicas y las regulaciones motivacionales, sobre la inteligencia emocional. La búsqueda se realizó en las bases de datos Web of Science, Scopus y SportDiscus. De los 62 resultados iniciales, se seleccionaron 6 artículos que cumplían los criterios de elegibilidad establecidos con anterioridad. Los resultados mostraron que la orientación de meta de aproximación-tarea, el clima tarea, la satisfacción de las necesidades psicológicas básicas y los tipos de motivación más autodeterminados se asocian de forma positiva con la inteligencia emocional. De forma opuesta, la regulación motivacional externa y la desmotivación se relacionan de forma negativa con la inteligencia emocional. Asimismo, dentro de la secuencia propuesta por la teoría de la autodeterminación, la inteligencia emocional parece comportarte como un mediador entre los antecedentes sociales y la satisfacción de los mediadores psicológicos, al mismo tiempo que parece tener un efecto directo como predictor de los diferentes tipos de regulaciones motivacionales. No obstante, son necesarios más estudios que muestren causalidad entre estas variables. Abstract. The aim of this paper was to carry out a systematic review to show the current state of research on the relationship between the social factors from the Achievement Goal Theory and the Self-Determination Theory, the basic psychological needs and motivational regulations, and emotional intelligence. The search was made in the Web of Science, Scopus, and SportDiscus databases. From the 62 initial items, we selected 6 articles that met the eligibility criteria previously established. Our findings showed that goal orientation of approach-task, task climate, satisfaction of basic psychological needs, and the most self-determined types of motivation are associated with emotional intelligence in a positive way. Conversely, external motivational regulation and amotivation are negatively related to emotional intelligence. Also, based on the sequence proposed by the Self-Determination Theory, emotional intelligence seems to behave as a mediator between social factors and satisfaction of the basic psychological needs. Furthermore, emotional intelligence seems to have a direct effect as a predictor of different types of motivational regulations. However, more studies are necessary to show causality among these variables.
