Purpose: This paper aims to discuss Walter Benjamin's Critical Theory and William Corsaro's Sociology of Childhood contributions to a Human Rights Education approach with children. Our intent is to investigate how children's personal experiences can enrich the construction of a differentiated pedagogical model, based on the promotion of attitudes and values infused in the human rights tradition. Approach: We address this paper to a reflection on the expressions of agency, social engagement, and cultural productions in the course of childhood. Findings: Our thesis is that Human Rights Education has to recognize the different ethical lives, or subcultures, that compose each educational environment, assuring children's autonomy and social protagonism in the process of identifying human rights violations and organizing strategies to assure social justice.

ABSTRACT Purpose: This study aimed to assess the necessity of routine intraoperative cell salvage in liver transplantations. Methods: A total of 327 liver transplants performed between 2014 and 2016 was included in the analysis. Patient data, including pre-transplant examinations, intraoperative red blood cell transfusions, and procedural information, were collected. Results: The median age of the patients was 54 years old, with 67% (219) being male. The most prevalent ABO blood type was O, accounting for 48% (155) of cases. The leading causes of liver disease were hepatitis C (113 cases, 34.6%) and alcohol-related liver disease (97 cases, 29.7%). Out of the 327 liver transplants, allogeneic red blood cell transfusions were administered in 110 cases (34%) with a median of two units of red blood cells per case. Cell salvage was employed in 237 transplants (73%), and successful blood recovery was achieved in 221 cases (93%). Among the group that recovered more than 200 mL of blood, the median volume of recovered blood was 417 mL, with no transfusion of allogeneic blood required. A total of 90 transplants was performed without utilizing cell salvage, and, among these cases, 19 required blood transfusions, with a median of zero units transfused. Conclusions: This study suggests that routine cell salvage is unnecessary for all liver transplantations. The most suitable indication for its use is in patients presenting with portal vein thrombosis and abnormal creatinine levels.

This article is based on education for power and citizenship and related educational and social problems, where the axis of the issue is the environmental resources applied to learning geometry. These have a great impact on the teaching process, as it is currently considered that education should be interactive with respect to the environment. In recent years, the educational system has been able to perceive that, in scientific areas such as geometry, students have been limited to the role of receivers of conceptual contents from texts and websites, leaving aside the interaction by the learner with the surrounding environment. Studies using surveys conducted based on a Likert scale and administered with questions in simple language that is easily understood by the respondents have shown us that if the utility of environmental resources can be successfully merged with scientific areas, the result is greater knowledge acquisition and interest among students, especially in the area of geometry. This proposal is based on a change in the current educational model, employing a more attractive design, in which young people achieve greater proximity to subject being studied.

Brazil is considered a middle-income country, where human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission and morbidity/mortality indicators have shown relative stability. The Northeast region of the country has less favorable socioeconomic indicators, with an increase in these statistics. In this context, the diagnosis of acute HIV infection (AHI) can favor the improvement of the control of the disease. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of universal screening for AHI in users of serological screening services, seeking to determine factors associated with the diagnosis of HIV infection. From July 2017 to July 2018, users of the voluntary counseling and testing center (VCT) of Fortaleza, with a minimum age of 18?years and with negative or indeterminate results in the rapid test for HIV, were invited to undergo the nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT). During the study, 7,166 users were enrolled, and 6,943 underwent rapid HIV testing, with 344 reactive results (5.0%). Factors associated with the diagnosis of HIV infection were male (prevalence ratio [PR]=22.3; 95% confidence interval [CI] 14.6?35.1), first visit the VCT (PR = 28.0; 95% CI: 20.4?39.3), recent sexually transmitted infection (STI) (PR = 13.8; 95% CI: 10.5?18.0), more than two recent sexual partners (PR = 14.4; 95% CI: 10.4?20.1), homosexual (PR = 33.4; 95% CI: 24.4?46.2) or bisexual (PR = 22.0; 95% CI: 12.6?36.7) practices, and reactive results for syphilis (PR = 16.4; 95% CI: 11.9?22.7). Among the 6,599 individuals with an indeterminate or nonreactive rapid test for HIV, 334 (5.1%) were selected for NAAT, and no cases of AHI were identified. The universal testing strategy by NAAT was not effective in screening for AHI, suggesting the need for targeted screening. Factors associated with the diagnosis of established HIV infection, such as men who have sex with men, recent STI, first visit to the service, number of partners (>two per year), and reactive test for syphilis, are potential targeting criteria.

Objectives: To report a case series of Intraoperative Blood Salvage (IOS) in surgeries during the treatment for Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) with controlled dislocation of the hip, identifying its efficacy, complications, and the profile of patients with SCFE. Methods: Descriptive study reporting a case series, comprising patients seen between January 2016 and March 2018, diagnosed with SCFE, and treated with controlled surgical dislocation of the hip using IOS. Results: Sample comprised of 15 patients, with a mean age of 13.1 years. The most affected side was the left with 8 cases. None of the patients required allogeneic blood in the postoperative period. Mean pre- and postoperative hemoglobin were 13.2 and 11.2 g.dL-1, respectively, and mean hemoglobin difference was 1.8 g.dL-1. Mean pre- and postoperative hematocrit were 39.13% and 33.20%, respectively, and mean hematocrit difference was 5.52%. No intraoperative complications were observed. One patient presented vomiting and another one, wound infection in the postoperative period. Conclusion: IOS was an alternative blood salvage approach and prevented allogeneic blood transfusion, enabling reduction of potential complications.

Abstract Objectives This study aims at evaluating whether subjective donor deferral (SDD) has the potential for increasing blood transfusion safety. Background Appropriate donor selection via clinical and serologic screening is necessary to prevent transfusion‐transmissible infections (TTIs). One additional strategy adopted by some Brazilian blood transfusion centers (BTCs) is the rejection of a donation by the pre‐donation interviewer based on subjective factors. Methods/Materials We conducted a STROBE‐guided cross‐sectional study including 105 005 prospective donors who presented to our BTC between 1 January 2013, and 31 December 2015. Donors were evaluated for age, gender, education level, donation type and history, confidential unit exclusion, SDD, and results of serologic screening for TTIs. Sin hurtar el testimonio del autor, parte de la última generación joven influida por la Revolución de 1917 en los aledaños de 1968.

Abstract Background Myelodysplastic syndromes are heterogeneous disorders. Patients with myelodysplastic syndrome disease often have ineffective hematopoiesis, cytopenias, blood cell dysplasia in one or more cell types, and are at high risk for developing acute myeloid leukemia. In myelodysplastic syndrome, mutations of TP53 gene are usually associated with complex karyotype and confer a worse prognosis. In the present study, two mutations in this gene are presented and discussed with the clinical evolution of the patients. Case presentation The first case is a 77-year-old Brazilian woman diagnosed as having multiple lineage dysplasia myelodysplastic syndrome according to World Health Organization 2016 and classified as very low-risk by Revised International Prognostic Scoring. The second case is an 80-year-old Brazilian man also diagnosed as having multiple lineage dysplasia myelodysplastic syndrome and classified as low risk. The mutation described in the first case was already identified in some neoplasias and it is associated with a poor prognosis, but it had never been reported before in myelodysplastic syndrome. The second mutation has never been described. Conclusions This is a novel report for the scientific community and may be very helpful as we can better understand the disease and the impact of mutations through the follow-up of these patients and others in the future. Both patients are in a good clinical condition, suggesting that these mutations may not alter the clinical course of the disease or may be associated with a good prognosis, but their role in the disease must be investigated more deeply in a larger population.

This paper seeks to analyse the relationship between wages and education at a European level, using a quantile regression in order to be able to extend the study along the whole wage distribution. This analysis is carried out for a sample of 14 European countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom), using the European Community Household Panel data-set. The paper aims to investigate whether the relationship between wages and education at European level is homogeneous and stable through time by running regressions for average and current (log)wages. RESUMOÉ importante destacar que nem todos os investidores interpretam da mesma forma as informações relevantes divulgadas no mercado, o que pode ser explicado pelas seguintes condições divergentes: crenças, valores, qualidade do banco de dados que utilizam, nível de conhecimento técnico e importância que atribuem às informações qualitativas e quantitativas extraídas do objeto de avaliação. A pesquisa visa a compreender a lógica do processo de tomada de decisão financeira de parte do segmento de pessoas físicas no Brasil. Para isso, foi realizada uma investigação das heurísticas e dos vieses presentes na tomada de decisão dessas pessoas, considerando que o investidor e o consumidor são influenciados por diversos aspectos psicológicos e racionais. Uma pesquisa baseada em fundamentos básicos de Finanças Comportamentais foi aplicada em uma amostra demograficamente qualificada de assinantes de uma das principais editoras brasileiras de revistas. Desse total, obteve-se resposta, via Internet, de 641 brasileiros segmentados por gênero, idade, renda e escolaridade. Na pesquisa, avaliou-se, em cada grupo, a presença de heurísticas e vieses como, por exemplo, excesso de confiança, representatividade, ancoragem e procrastinação. Os resultados da pesquisa mostraram que tanto a razão quanto a emoção influenciaram nas respostas da predominância dos participantes da amostra. A maioria das pessoas considera que seu comportamento financeiro é mais racional do que o de seus pares. The research aims to understand the logic of the process of financial decision-making of part of the individual segment in Brazil. Therefore, an inquiry of heuristics and the biases present in the decision making of those people, considering that the investor and the consumer are influenced by various factors. A research based on basic fundamentals of behavioral finance was applied in a demographically qualified sample of subscribers of one of the main Brazilian publishing companies. Of this total, we have obtained response from 641 Brazilians segmented by gender, age, income and education. In the research, the presence of heuristics and biases was evaluated in each group, such as overconfidence, representativeness, anchorage and procrastination. The results showed that both reason and emotion influence the participants’ answers of the bulk of the sample. Most people felt that their financial behavior is more rational than that of their peers. As expected, the study indicated significant differences in behavior according to gender, age, education and income.RESUMENEs importante destacar que no todos los inversores interpretan de la misma manera las informaciones relevantes que circulan en el mercado de capitales, lo que puede explicarse por las siguientes condiciones divergentes: creencias, valores, calidad de la base de datos utilizada, grado de conocimiento técnico y la importancia que se atribuye a las informaciones cualitativas y cuantitativas extraídas del objeto evaluado. La investigación busca comprender la lógica del proceso de toma de decisión financiera de un segmento de las personas físicas en Brasil. Para ello se realizó una investigación de las heuristicas y de las tendencias presentes en la toma de decisión de estas personas, considerando que diversos aspectos psicológicos y racionales influyen en el inversor y en el consumidor. Una investigación basada en los fundamentos básicos de las Finanzas del Comportamiento se aplicó en una muestra demográficamente calificada de suscriptores de una de las principales editoriales brasileñas de revistas. Del total de suscriptores, enviaron respuesta por Internet 641 brasileños clasificados por sexo, edad, ingresos y escolaridad. En la investigación se evaluó, en cada grupo, la presencia de heuristicas y tendencias, como por ejemplo, exceso de confianza, representatividad, afianzamiento y postergación. Los resultados de la investigación mostraron que tanto la razón como la emoción influyeron en las respuestas del grupo predominante de participantes de la muestra. La mayoría de las personas considera que su comportamiento financiero es más racional que el de sus colegas. Como se esperaba, el estudio mostró diferencias significativas en el comportamiento según el sexo, edad, escolaridad e ingresos.
