Abstract

A summary of data and results from the first neutron images produced by the National Ignition Facility (NIF), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, CA, USA are presented. An overview of the neutron imaging technique is presented, as well as a synopsis of data and measurements made to date. Data from directly driven, DT filled microballoons, as well as indirectly driven, cryogenically layered ignition experiments are presented. The data show that the primary cores from directly driven implosions are approximately twice as large, 64 ± 3 μm, as indirectly driven cores, 25 ± 4 and 29 ± 4 μm and more asymmetric, P2/P0 = 47% vs. − 14% and 7%. Further, comparison with the size and shape of X-ray image data on the same implosions show good agreement, indicating X-ray emission is dominated by the hot regions of the implosion.

Abstract

It is critical to understand the privacy and robustness vulnerabilities of machine learning models, as their implementation expands in scope. In membership inference attacks, adversaries can determine whether a particular set of data was used in training, putting the privacy of the data at risk. Existing work has mostly focused on image related tasks; we generalize this type of attack to speaker identification on audio samples. We demonstrate attack precision of 85.9\% and recall of 90.8\% for LibriSpeech, and 78.3\% precision and 90.7\% recall for VOiCES (Voices Obscured in Complex Environmental Settings). We find that implementing defenses such as prediction obfuscation, defensive distillation or adversarial training, can reduce attack accuracy to chance., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, 7 tables

Abstract

Adversarial training was introduced as a way to improve the robustness of deep learning models to adversarial attacks. This training method improves robustness against adversarial attacks, but increases the models vulnerability to privacy attacks. In this work we demonstrate how model inversion attacks, extracting training data directly from the model, previously thought to be intractable become feasible when attacking a robustly trained model. The input space for a traditionally trained model is dominated by adversarial examples - data points that strongly activate a certain class but lack semantic meaning - this makes it difficult to successfully conduct model inversion attacks. We demonstrate this effect using the CIFAR-10 dataset under three different model inversion attacks, a vanilla gradient descent method, gradient based method at different scales, and a generative adversarial network base attacks., Comment: 11 pages, 11 figures

Abstract

We propose an algorithm to denoise speakers from a single microphone in the presence of non-stationary and dynamic noise. Our approach is inspired by the recent success of neural network models separating speakers from other speakers and singers from instrumental accompaniment. Unlike prior art, we leverage embedding spaces produced with source-contrastive estimation, a technique derived from negative sampling techniques in natural language processing, while simultaneously obtaining a continuous inference mask. Our embedding space directly optimizes for the discrimination of speaker and noise by jointly modeling their characteristics. This space is generalizable in that it is not speaker or noise specific and is capable of denoising speech even if the model has not seen the speaker in the training set. Parameters are trained with dual objectives: one that promotes a selective bandpass filter that eliminates noise at time-frequency positions that exceed signal power, and another that proportionally splits time-frequency content between signal and noise. We compare to state of the art algorithms as well as traditional sparse non-negative matrix factorization solutions. Abstract

This paper introduces the Voices Obscured In Complex Environmental Settings (VOICES) corpus, a freely available dataset under Creative Commons BY 4.0. This dataset will promote speech and signal processing research of speech recorded by far-field microphones in noisy room conditions. Publicly available speech corpora are mostly composed of isolated speech at close-range microphony. A typical approach to better represent realistic scenarios, is to convolve clean speech with noise and simulated room response for model training. Despite these efforts, model performance degrades when tested against uncurated speech in natural conditions. For this corpus, audio was recorded in furnished rooms with background noise played in conjunction with foreground speech selected from the LibriSpeech corpus. Multiple sessions were recorded in each room to accommodate for all foreground speech-background noise combinations. Audio was recorded using twelve microphones placed throughout the room, resulting in 120 hours of audio per microphone. AbstractPurposeMaterials and MethodsResults and ConclusionsAwake craniotomy (AC) is a procedure often performed concomitantly with direct electrical cortical stimulation (DES) and electrocorticography (ECoG) during functional brain mapping. Patients undergoing AC are at risk of acute symptomatic seizures, including intraoperative (IS) and early postoperative seizures (EPS) which can lead to higher risk of morbidity. Predicting those who are at risk of IS and EPS could alert clinicians and provide the ability to closely monitor and consider management changes in the acute setting to prevent seizures.This is a narrative review of previous studies on IS and EPS during awake craniotomy, including a summary of studies from our center using a novel circular grid electrode.There are a number of clinical features with variable association with a higher risk of EPS and IS. Surgeries involving the anterior and central head regions are a risk factor for IS. EPS is more likely to occur in patients with perioperative intracranial hemorrhage. Improving grid/electrode technology for ECoG can allow for better sensitivity of detecting epileptiform activity which can help to diagnose and predict perioperative seizures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The aim of this work is to challenge the traditionally held view of the image of the lady in medieval courtly lyric as either the summit of perfection or the source of all evil. Feminine images in courtly lyric have tended to be analysed in terms of a bipolar pattern represented by the wholly positive model of the bona domna in opposition to the entirely negative figure of the mala domna. It is argued in this thesis that praise and blame are not opposite trends in this kind of poetry, but different representations of the feminine arising from the interaction between the misogynist background of cultural tradition and the civilizing trends characteristic of courtly literature. As a result of the different degrees to which this interaction takes place, we find a variety of feminine images that makes redundant the conventional classification of women into the good and the bad. The scope of this work is Provençal troubadour lyric of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, as well as love lyric written in Provençal and Catalan in the kingdom of Aragon over the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The five chapters trace the evolution of the conventional topics of this lyric in relation to the changing social and economical conditions of the period. The concept of symbolic inversion of gender roles is applied to representations of the lady and the courtly lover, in order to identify the simultaneous presence of positive and negative elements in every text. The thesis aims to demonstrate that the multi-faceted, versatile image of the lady in this body of love lyric is to serve as a pretext for the production of courtly discourse, a source of social and intellectual prestige for poets. Detailed study of a representative selection of texts shows how deference for the lady, originally one of the signs of distinction defining courtly love lyric, is progressively displaced by other features of courtly discourse that grant distinction.

Abstract

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo geral investigar a relação entre liderança e clima organizacional na gestão escolar, bem como os desafios e possibilidades para a promoção de um ambiente organizacional favorável à administração dos conflitos. Tratou-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, de natureza qualitativa. Os resultados mostram que a liderança exerce uma influência significativa sobre o clima organizacional na gestão escolar, e que a promoção de um ambiente organizacional favorável à administração dos conflitos é um dos principais desafios enfrentados pelos líderes escolares atualmente. Os estudos também mostraram que a liderança democrática, a comunicação aberta e a colaboração são fatores importantes para criar um clima organizacional positivo e para lidar eficazmente com os conflitos que surgem no ambiente escolar.

Abstract

El Desarrollo Sostenible hace referencia al bienestar social, la conservación del medio ambiente además de un crecimiento económico acorde a la biocapacidad del ecosistema, promoviendo un modelo de desarrollo que logre la satisfacción de las necesidades de índole social, económico, de diversidad cultural y de un medio ambiente sano, con el fin de contribuir en las condiciones de vida de la población presente sin comprometer el entorno natural de las generaciones futura. En este orden de ideas, es necesario establecer, que los problemas ambientales son inherentes a los procesos de desarrollo modificando los procesos socioeconómicos y dinámicas propias de cada región; generando como elemento esencial para la sostenibilidad alcanzar una interacción entre la satisfacción de las necesidades y aspiraciones humanas, actuales y futuras, con el mantenimiento del equilibrio de los sistemas biofísicos y los sistemas sociales. Sustainable Development refers to social welfare, environmental conservation as well as economic growth in accordance with the biocapacity of the ecosystem, promoting a development model that satisfies the needs of a social, economic, cultural diversity and a healthy environment, in order to contribute to the living conditions of the present population without compromising the natural environment of future generations. Background Hepatic subcapsular hematoma is a rare complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, with few cases reported in the literature. Injury to the liver parenchyma or liver capsule tears during gallbladder traction, anatomical variations in the hepatic vascular system and coagulopathy due to NSAIDS have all been proposed as possible associations. Methods We report a case of a 56-year-old female patient who developed a subcapsular hepatic hematoma after undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy, who was successfully treated by endovascular embolization. Conclusion Hepatic subcapsular hematoma is an infrequent complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy that could be treated endovascularly., Introducción El hematoma subcapsular hepático es una complicación inusual de la colecistectomía laparoscópica. Se han propuesto como posibles asociaciones la lesión del parénquima hepático, los desgarros de la cápsula hepática durante la tracción, las variaciones anatómicas vasculares y la coagulopatía. Métodos Presentamos el caso de una paciente de 56 años que desarrolló un hematoma subcapsular hepático después de una colecistectomía laparoscópica electiva por cólico biliar recurrente y colelitiasis. Fue tratada con éxito por medio de embolización endovascular. Conclusión El hematoma subcapsular hepático es una complicación poco frecuente de la colecistectomía laparoscópica que puede ser tratada por métodos no invasivos endovasculares.

Abstract

Las prácticas científicas y tecnológicas se entienden como prácticas sociales que se encuentran insertas dentro de determinados contextos políticos, cultura- les, sociales, económicos, científicos que proponen diálogos y tensiones entre los distintos actores invo- lucrados. Nuestra propuesta indaga sobre la política y gestión de la ciencia, tecnología e innovación y, particularmente, sobre la comunicación pública de la ciencia y la tecnología, entendida como un rasgo ineludible de las sociedades actuales, parte influ- yente de la agenda pública actual. De esta manera, en un primer momento pretendemos reflexionar sobre los sentidos que se desprenden de política estatal, política científica y comunicación pública de la ciencia y la tecnología. En segundo lugar, poner en escena el derecho a la comunicación, el ejercicio de las ciudadanías y el rol de los medios de comu- nicación en esta temática. Finalmente, a modo de apertura más que de cierre definitivo, compartir y comenzar a reflexionar sobre evaluaciones y exi- gencias de organismos de financiación y promoción científico-tecnológica, y la mención de un espacio que hemos considerado «a demanda», en el con- texto del desarrollo de estrategias de comunica- ción pública de la ciencia y la tecnología, tomando como caso la Universidad Nacional de Misiones. Scientific and technological practices are understood as social practices that are inserted within certain political, cultural, social, economic, scientific contexts that propose dialogues and tensions between the different actors involved. Our proposal investigates the policy and management of science, technology and innovation and, particularly, the public communication of science and technology, understood as an inescapable feature of current societies, an influential part of the current public agenda. In this way, at first we intend to reflect on the meanings that emerge from state policy, scientific policy and public communication of science and technology. Second, to stage the right to communication, the exercise of citizenship and the role of the media in this matter. Finally, and as an opening rather than a definitive closing, share and begin to reflect on evaluations and demands of scientific-technological funding and promotion organizations, and the mention of a space that we have considered “on demand”. Abstract

Identificar la sintomatología musculo esquelética en los trabajadores de una estación de servicio de combustible en el II trimestre del 2021 Los desórdenes musculoesqueléticos son una de las principales causas de incapacidad y morbilidad en el mundo del trabajo .El objetivo es identificar la frecuencia, severidad y segmento anatómico donde se presenta sintomatología osteomuscular en población trabajadora de una empresa que comercializa combustible al por menor y como actividad conexa realiza lavado de vehículos de carga pesada que transitan por la variante de Ibagué - Tolima. La investigación se realiza mediante un estudio descriptivo con corte transversal, se utilizó el cuestionario nórdico de Kourinka. Participaron 18 trabajadores, edad promedio de 32,83 años, n= 78% hombres y n= 22% mujeres, distribuidos así: administrativo 5.5% , aseo 5,5 %, expendedor combustible 22% , lavado de autos 67% los cuales son trabajadores informales en su mayoría migrantes de Venezuela, para el desarrollo de las actividades laborales adoptan posturas estáticas, realizan movimientos repetitivos o manipulan cargas. El cuestionario indica que, el 100% de los encuestados manifiesta dolor, con una permanencia de 6 a 12 meses, los principales segmentos corporales con mayor frecuencia son: personal administrativo dolor leve en miembros superiores (mano, dedos, muñeca y espalda alta); personal de aseo dolor fuerte en (cuello y espalda baja), expendedor de combustible dolor moderado en (mano, dedos, muñeca, pierna y pie), personal que lava autos de carga pesada dolor fuerte en (espalda alta, espalda baja y cadera). Para terminar recalcar la importancia de la educación y la vigilancia epidemiologia para la prevención de desórdenes musculoesquelicos, así como la formalización del empleo para los trabajadores y el aseguramiento al Sistema General de Riesgos Laborales. Musculoskeletal disorders are one of the main causes of disability and morbidity in the world of work. The objective of this job is to identify the frequency, severity and anatomical segment where musculoskeletal symptoms occur in the working population of a company that sells fuel at retail and as an additional activity, it washes heavy load vehicles that pass through Ibagué - Tolima variant. It is a descriptive cross-sectional study, Nordic Kourinka´s questionnaire was used. 18 workers participated, average age 32.83 years, n = 78% men and n = 22% women, distributed as follows: administrative 5.5%, cleaning 5.5%, fuel dispenser 22%, car wash 67% of which are informal workers, mostly migrants from Venezuela, adopt static postures, carry out repetitive movements or manipulate loads to carry out their work activities. The questionnaire indicates that 100% of the respondents manifest pain, with a permanence of 6 to 12 months, the main body segments most frequently are: administrative personnel mild pain in upper limbs (hand, fingers, wrist and upper back); Toilet personnel severe pain in (neck and lower back), fuel dispenser moderate pain in (hand, fingers, wrist, leg and foot), personnel who wash heavy loads severe pain in (upper back, lower back and hip). Education and epidemiological surveillance are important for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, as well as the formalization of employment for workers and assurance to the General System of Occupational Risks. Abstract

El texto expone la divulgación de la arquitectura, el urbanismo y temas de ciudad a través de los llamados congresos de mejoras nacionales conferidos entre 1917 y 1946, periodo en el cual Ricardo Olano Estrada, importante personaje de la élite antioqueña, urbanista sin formación y principal impulsador de estos eventos, mantuvo una participación activa. El trabajo se soporta en una investigación documental, cuyo objetivo aporta a las interpretaciones arquitectónicas y urbanísticas de la ciudad moderna en Medellín entre 1926 y 1947, desde de los discursos de Ricardo Olano Estrada. Metodológicamente, se realizan dos etapas: la primera surge de una revisión bibliográfica sobre el problema, y la segunda, de la búsqueda de material de archivo y revistas seriadas especializadas de la época, teniendo como fuente principal la Revista Progreso, órgano de divulgación de la Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas de Medellín. Los resultados expuestos en el texto tienen una implicación de carácter nacional; es decir, que solo son de potencial interés para la historia de la planeación urbana en Colombia., The text exposes the dissemination of architecture, urban planning and city issues through the so-called congresos de mejoras nacionales [urban improvement congresses] held between 1917 and 1946, a period in which Ricardo Olano Estrada, an important character of the Antioquian elite, an untrained urban planner and the main promoter of these events, maintained active participation. The work is based on documentary research, whose objective is to contribute to the architectural and urbanistic interpretations of the modern city of Medellín between 1926 and 1947 from the discourses of Ricardo Olano Estrada. Methodologically, two stages are carried out: the first one arises from a bibliographic review on the problem, and the second one, from the search of archival material and specialized serial journals of the time, having as main source the Revista Progreso, the dissemination organ of the Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas of Medellín [Public Improvement Society of Medellin] The results presented in the text have a national implication, that is, they are only of potential interest for the history of urban planning in Colombia
