Ageing is a multi-factorial physiological process and the development of novel IoT systems, tools and devices, specifically targeted to older people, must be based on a holistic framework built on robust scientific knowledge in different health domains. Furthermore, interoperability must be guaranteed using standardized frameworks or approaches. These aspects still largely lack in the specific literature. The main aim of the paper is to develop a new ontology (the NESTORE ontology) to extend the available ontologies provided by universAAL-IoT (uAAL-IoT). The ontology is based on a multidomain healthy ageing holistic model, structuring well-assessed scientific knowledge, specifically targeted to healthy older adults aged between 65 and 75. The tool is intended to support, and standardize heterogeneous data about ageing in compliance with the uAAL-IoT framework. The NESTORE ontology covers all the relevant concepts to represent 3 significant domains of ageing: (1) Physiological Status and Physical Activity Behaviour; (2) Nutrition; and (3) Cognitive and Mental Status and Social Behaviour. In total, 12 sub-ontologies were modelled with more than 60 classes and sub-classes referenced among them by using more than 100 relations and around 20 enumerations. The proposed ontology increases the uAAL collection by 40%. NESTORE ontology provides innovation both in terms of semantic content and technological approach. The thorough use of this ontology can support the development of a decision support system, to promote healthy ageing, with the capacity to do dynamic multi-scale modelling of user-specific data based on the semantic annotations of users’ profile.

An approximate method for the determination of tunnel wall interference on two-dimensional non-lifting supercritical airfoils is presented. The method assumes classical linearized subsonic interference theory applied to an airfoil whose thickness is increased so as to match the far field transonic velocity potential. The interference potential at the wing trailing edge is taken as the parameter controlling the shock location on the airfoil. Sample computations of circular arc airfoils in tunnels with solid, porous and slotted walls are shown to adequately predict the shock displacement produced by the wall constraints. Also presented is a numerical analysis, based on a shock fitting technique, for the determination of exact shape and location of imbedded shocks. With the analysis and accompanying numerical code some results are provided to show the sensitivity of back pressure perturbations on shock location. (Author)

A method for transonic wind tunnel corrections based on the concept of measuring streamline deflection and pressure in the vincinity of the tunnel walls, and of analytically determining the streamline deflection that corresponds to the measured pressure and the pressure that corresponds to the measured streamline for external uniform free stream conditions at the same Mach number of the test was experimentally investigated. The method involves the additional step of determining the required wall porosity variation or proper wind tunnel cross sectional areas variation and then making the requisite wind tunnel adjustments to obtain interference free flow. Two, two-dimensional, 6% thick circular-arc airfoils were tested at several angles of attack and at free stream Mach numbers of 0.91 and 0.95 in the AFFDL Tri-Sonic Gasdynamics Facility at Wright-Patterson AFB. Only the portion of the data related to zero angle of attack is analyzed in this report. The analysis provides a verification of the experiments themselves, gives some indication of the characteristics of the tunnel ventilated walls, indicates the sensitivity required of the measurements and defines the wall modifications which are required for interference-free conditions. A dynamical fog model, which explains fog maintenance, is utilized as a basis for the description of the droplet distributions within fog layers. The possible phenomena leading to the observed droplet size distributions are discussed and relationships between these distributions and expected conditions of supersaturation and turbulence in a stationary fog are developed. A model is presented to explain why fogs can be maintained for extended periods of time. The model considers the fog as a dynamical system whereby droplets depletion through fall is balanced by a continuous process of evaporation and condensation. The controlling parameters of the process are the heat transfer from the ground and the level of turbulence. The equations describing the system are presented and solved. Numerical examples are given and compared with experimental data. (Author)
