Introduction: Breast pumps represent valuable tools to promote continued breastfeeding. Aim: Describe the characteristics of the global scientific production of breast pumps indexed in Scopus. Materials and methods: Descriptive study based on bibliometric methodology. A search equation was created using keywords and logical operators. We found 362 articles in Scopus and selected 292 that met the selection criteria. Visibility, impact, and collaboration indicators were estimated using the SciVal tool. Results: The University of Western Australia had the most publications, although the University of Toronto (18.6) in Canada had the highest average number of citations per publication. The most productive authors were Geddes Donna Tracy and Lai Ching Tat; however, Meier Paula Primmer had 67% more expected citations than the overall average. National collaboration was present in approximately 50% of the publications. Articles in first-quartile journals are published in higher numbers and with a positive trend from 2013 to 2022. Most of the most productive journals were positioned in the Q1 quartile, of these, the Journal of Human Lactation and Breastfeeding Medicine had the most publications. Conclusion: Research on breast pumps increased, especially in journals positioned in the first and second quartile. National cooperation is the most frequent, with the United States as one of the countries with the most institutions among the most productive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To summarize the scientific evidence on sexual dysfunction and self-concept in infertile women. Methods: We conducted a theoretical review of articles in PubMed on sexual dysfunction and self-concept in infertile women. The search was carried out using a strategy based on MeSH terms and Boolean operators, which identified 47 articles. The selection of articles was done independently, according to the selection criteria, and finally four articles were included. Results: The review showed results indicating that adequate self-concept positively influences sexual functioning and its domains. Studies agree that infertility negatively affects sexual function, and that sexual function plays an important role in depression and quality of life. Sexual self-concept in infertile women represents a fundamental aspect of improving their psychosocial well-being. Conclusion: Infertility generates a significant impact on health. Specifically, research has demonstrated that sexual dysfunction is a prevalent issue among women with this condition. Furthermore, studies have indicated a relationship between sexual dysfunction and the sexual self-concept of these women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To compare the profile of users of short- and long-acting contraceptive methods (CM). Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study that analyzed population-based databases in Peru. A total of 12,973 users of short- and long- acting CM were included. Social, demographic, and reproductive characteristics were studied, as well as the type of contraceptive method. Descriptive statistics were calculated; and the Chi-square test was applied with 95% confidence. Results: Short-acting contraceptives (87.7%) are more used than long-acting contraceptives (LARCs) (12.3%). Among users of LARCs, the proportion of women with higher education (47.7%) was significantly higher. Women from the highlands (21.9%) used mostly short-acting methods; and those residing in urban areas (85.5%) and with a high wealth index (23.7%) used long-acting methods. Childlessness (18.8%) and non-desire for parity (62.5%) were higher in users of short- and LARCs, respectively. The initiation of sexual intercourse was not different in both groups of users. Conclusion: Social, demographic, and reproductive characteristics are different in women users of short- and long-acting methods, except for age at sexual debut. Clinical significance: The wide range of CM currently available allows women and their partners to satisfy their reproductive demands, although their choice depends on various conditions internal or external to the woman. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the scientific literature on the use and applications of manual and electronic toothbrushes. Materials and Methods: An electronic search without date restriction was carried out in the PubMed and Scopus databases. The articles were selected, and their characteristics, objectives, and methods were analyzed using the following keywords: "manual toothbrush," "electronic toothbrush," "interdental brush," "dental plaque," "gingivitis," "periodontitis" and "mechanical cleaning." Ten relevant studies investigating the uses and applications of manual versus electronic toothbrushes were selected for this review. Results: The studies determined the efficacy of electronic and manual toothbrushes for the reduction of gingivitis and plaque, detailing the characteristics of the populations. Some studies evaluated the effectiveness of the two classes of brushes using different dental plaque indexes. One study determined plaque removal by comparing an interactive versus manual toothbrush, and two studies evaluated the effectiveness of the brushes in plaque reduction in a pediatric population. Based on the research articles, it was evident that some studies found no significant difference in biofilm removal in the use of electronic toothbrushes versus manual toothbrushes. Conclusion: In summary, it is not possible to give a conclusion because there is a discrepancy between the authors, and further studies are needed to corroborate and contrast the usefulness of manual and electronic toothbrushes. Objectives: To describe the trends and characteristics of the worldwide scientific production on the use of artificial pancreas (AP) in the management of diabetes mellitus (DM). Materials and Methods: Scientific papers published between 2017 and 2022 were retrieved from the Scopus database using relevant keywords. Only original articles, reviews, and short surveys were included. The metadata were exported to the SciVal software for retrieving quantitative data and the main characteristics such as journals, authors, institutions, journal metrics by quartiles, subcategories, and collaborative networks were extracted. Results: A total of 642 articles were included after applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria: original articles, 489; reviews, 151; and short surveys, 2. The most common type of collaboration was at the national level (38.3%; citations per publication: 22.3; field-weighted citation index [FWCI]: 2.2) followed by international collaboration (29.4%; citations per publication: 19.6; FWCI: 1.94). More than 70% of articles in each year were published in journals listed in Q1. Two journals, Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics and Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, accounted for about 22% of all publications. Six of the top 10 universities were from the United States, with The University of Virginia having the most publications (n = 54; 59 authors; citations per publication: 38.4; FWCI: 3.73). Conclusions: The findings of this study highlight that most research on this topic is published in high-quality journals and has a good citation impact. Notably, most research has been conducted in developed countries, thereby indicating the need for research efforts in this field from developing countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of enamel matrix derivative (EMD) on periodontal regeneration defects. Materials and Methods: Four databases were searched until October 2021. Experimental animal studies evaluating the efficacy of EMD were used. The primary outcomes were bone formation (BF) and cementum formation (CF). The secondary outcomes were junctional epithelium (JE), gingival recession (GR), and clinical attachment level (CAL). Measures of effect were mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Random-effects model were used for all meta-analyses. The Systematic Review Centre for Laboratory animal Experimentation tool was used to assess the risk of bias. Results: Seven experimental animal studies (n = 40) used with a maximum follow-up period of 3 months. Compared to control, EMD did not significantly reduce BF (MD 0.02 mm; 95% CI − 1.91–1.96; I2 = 89%). However, it increased CF (MD 1.38 mm; 95% CI 0.01–2.74; I2 = 55%). For secondary outcomes it was found that compared to control, EMD only significantly reduced JE (MD − 0.54 mm; 95% CI − 1.06 to − 0.02; I2 = 55%). However, the other secondary outcomes were not significant as in the case of GR (MD − 3. 88 mm; 95% CI − 68.29–60.53; I2 = 82%), and in CAL (MD 0.02 mm; 95% CI − 0.29–0.39; I2 = 38%). Finally, according to the risk of bias assessment, all included studies had a high risk of bias. Conclusion: EMD had no effect on BF values while it did not reduce CF. Otherwise, in the secondary outcomes, EMD only significantly reduced JE values and had no effect on GR and CAL. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Maternal death generates a great impact on public health, and it is recognized that its main cause is postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Therefore, the objective was to analyze the bibliometric profile of the world scientific production on maternal mortality due to PPH. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Bibliometric study that included original articles indexed in Scopus, identified by means of a search strategy that included MESH terms and logical operators. Bibliometric indicators were estimated with the SciVal tool, and the VOSwiever program was used for co-occurrence networks by key terms and co-authorship by country. RESULTS: There has been an increase in the number of publications in the past 5 years. Regarding co-occurrence, the most frequent terms were "postpartum hemorrhage" and "maternal mortality." The United States and the United Kingdom are positioned as those with the highest density of publications; in addition, Australia evidences collaboration with Canada and South Korea. Publications with national collaboration were more frequent (36%). BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth is the most productive journal, although BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology has a higher normalized impact. The authors with the highest scientific output belong to an institution in the Netherlands. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Leiden University are the most productive. CONCLUSION: Scientific activity on maternal mortality due to PPH is increasing and its main means of dissemination are high-impact journals. National collaboration was more frequent, with the active participation of authors and institutions from the Netherlands and the United States. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: This article aims to provide an overview of the scientific evidence comparing zirconium dental implants with titanium implants. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted using the MEDLINE database accessed through PubMed and Scopus. The search included the keywords "dental implant," "zirconia dental implant," and "titanium dental implant" without any date restrictions. Results: The review examined research articles focusing on the physical and chemical characteristics of titanium and zirconia dental implants. Additionally, studies investigating the strength and translucency of zirconia, as well as the osseointegration of both materials, were analyzed. However, no conclusive evidence demonstrating the superiority of either material was found in the current literature. Conclusion: Taking into account the findings of this narrative study, no significant differences were identified between zirconium and titanium dental implants. Further scientific research is required to establish a definitive recommendation regarding the use of one material over the other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To describe the different uses of lactoferrin for a possible implementation in dentistry. Materials and Methods: An electronic search was performed in the Scopus and PubMed databases between 1997 and 2021. The keywords included in the search were "lactoferrin", "lactoferrin in vitro", "osseointegration", and "bone regeneration". Only articles in which the osteogenic properties of lactoferrin in bone regeneration were related were selected for the present literature review. During the search, several articles were observed in this field that were included as pilot studies, retrospective cohort studies, and case-control studies that referred to the clinical process. Results: A total of 12 articles, comprising seven animal studies and five in vitro studies, were chosen for the results of this literature review. Of all the articles, eight were utilized in the introduction, of which six were excluded from the results. Conclusion: Based on the current limitations of this literature review, there is inadequate evidence to support the efficacy of lactoferrin in oral surgery. Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and tuberculosis (TB) coinfection represents a serious public health problem that requires new approaches for its prevention and comprehensive management. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the bibliometric profile of the worldwide scientific production on TB and HIV coinfection. Methods: Bibliometric study that retrieved publications indexed in Scopus, from the design of a search strategy based on Medical Subject Heading terms and logical operators. The sample consisted of 219 articles, whose metadata were analyzed with SciVal, VOSviewer, and RStudio. Results: Between 2017 and 2018, there was a notorious interest in the interrelationship between HIV and TB, as well as in the role of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the context of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. The United States and South Africa clustered the most publications. On the other hand, the most productive authors have a US Institution affiliation, Brust James CM and Gandhi Neel R had seven publications. The categories of "Infectious Diseases" and "Microbiology (medical)" accumulated 94 and 35 publications. In addition, the most productive journals were PLOS One and the International Journal of TB and Lung Disease, while clinical infectious diseases had the best CiteScore 2021 (17.3). Conclusions: Scientific production has been mainly disseminated in high-impact journals, with a slight increase in recent years. The United States is the leading and most influential country, followed by South Africa; in addition, Brust James CM, an American National, is recognized as the most productive. Aim: To describe the use and applications of activated charcoal (AC) in the manufacture of toothpastes and mouthwashes. Materials and Methods: This narrative review conducted a search for information in the PubMed and Scopus databases. There was no restriction on language, year, or country. We use the following search strategy (“Activated Charcoal” OR “Charcoal Activated” OR “Activated Carbon*”) AND TITLE-ABS-KEY (“Dentifrices” OR “Dentifrice” OR “Dental Polishes” OR “Polishes Dental” OR “Toothpastes” OR “Toothpaste” OR “Mouthwashes” OR “Mouth Rinse” OR “Mouth Rinses” OR “Rinse Mouth” OR “Rinses Mouth” OR “Mouth Bath” OR “Bath Mouth” OR “Baths Mouth” OR “Mouth Baths” OR “Mouth Wash” OR “Wash Mouth”). Results: The literature has so far shown that there are certain changes in the morphology of the enamel surface after tooth brushing with AC. AC is a highly porous compound that can exchange ions through nanopores, adhere to the enamel, and remove stains because it can absorb pigments from the tooth surface. Conclusion: Toothpastes or mouthwashes with AC have a potential whitening effect that affects the color and the surface roughness of the teeth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
