Background: Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, youth have experienced substantial stress due to abrupt changes in education, finances, and social life, compounding pre-existing stressors. With youth (ages 15–26) often at critical points in development, they are vulnerable to long-term mental health challenges brought on by pandemic trauma. Methods: To identify youth experiences throughout the pandemic and examine changes over time, we conducted semi-structured interviews among n = 141 youth in two Canadian provinces (Ontario and British Columbia) and across the country of Ireland at three time points over the course of more than one year (August 2020-October 2021). We conducted a qualitative longitudinal analysis using an inductive content approach. Results: Categories identified were (1) coping with hardship; (2) opportunities for growth; (3) adapting to new ways of accessing services; (4) mixed views on the pandemic: attitudes, behaviour, and perception of policy response; (5) navigating COVID-19 information; (6) transitioning to life after the pandemic; and (7) youth-led recommendations for government and service response. The findings also reveal trends in health and wellness in accordance with prolonged periods of lockdown, changes in weather, and return to normalcy after the availability of COVID-19 vaccines. Key recommendations from youth include incorporating youth voice into decision making, communicating public health information effectively to youth, enhancing service delivery post-pandemic, and planning for future pandemics. Conclusions: These results provide insights into the extensive longitudinal impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on young people across three geographical locations. Aim: Integrated youth services (IYS) have been identified as a national priority in response to the youth mental health and substance use (MHSU) crisis in Canada. In British Columbia (BC), an IYS initiative called Foundry expanded to 11 physical centres and launched a virtual service. The aim of the study was to describe the demographics of Foundry clients and patterns of service utilization during this expansion, along with the impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic. Methods: Data were analysed for all youth (ages 12–24) accessing both in‐person (April 27th, 2018‐March 31st, 2021) and virtual (May 1st, 2020‐March 31st, 2021) services. Cohorts containing all clients from before (April 27th, 2018‐March 16th, 2020) and during (March 17th, 2020‐March 31st, 2021) the COVID‐19 pandemic were also examined. Results: A total of 23 749 unique youth accessed Foundry during the study period, with 110 145 services provided. Mean client age was 19.54 years (SD = 3.45) and 62% identified as female. Over 60% of youth scored 'high' or 'very high' for distress and 29% had a self‐rated mental health of 'poor', with similar percentages seen for all services and virtual services. These ratings stayed consistent before and during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Conclusions: Foundry has continued to reach the target age group, with a 65% increase in number of clients during the study period compared with the pilot stage. Background: Youth have been uniquely affected by the COVID‐19 pandemic. Despite high rates of COVID‐19 infection, youth had one of the lowest vaccine uptake rates. Certain characteristics can affect vaccine uptake, such as mental health and substance use, but it is important to understand uptake for an effective response to pandemics. Objective: This study examined the perspectives of youth with mental health or substance use concerns on COVID‐19 vaccine confidence, hesitancy and overall COVID‐19 vaccine perspectives. Methods: Using photovoice, a community‐based participatory research method, a sample of 27 youth aged 14−24 years participated in a series of photography workshops and focus groups. Participants submitted final photographs for discussion. Focus groups were recorded, transcribed and thematically analysed. Results: Four themes were generated: (1) Youth deciphered the vaccine discourse in a changing information landscape; (2) mixed perspectives of families, friends and loved ones influenced the vaccine journey; (3) complex societal influences affected views and decisions around the COVID‐19 vaccine; and (4) youth navigated their vaccine journeys through first‐ and second‐hand experiences. The four themes and subthemes highlight the evolution of youth's journeys with the COVID‐19 vaccine over the course of the pandemic and into the late‐pandemic period. Conclusions: Youth with mental health or substance use challenges navigated a complex environment during the COVID‐19 pandemic. The wide variety of factors influencing vaccine perspectives should be taken into account in public health messaging and future research on youth vaccine uptake. Youth‐led and youth‐engaged research can help solicit rich and meaningful perspectives of young people on important public health issues. Patient or Public Contribution: This was a youth‐led study. The objective of the review is to identify factors related to how East and Southeast Asian immigrant youth aged 12–24 and their families access mental health and substance use (MHSU) services. To address how East and Southeast Asian youth and their families access mental health and substance use services, a scoping review was conducted to identify studies in these databases: PubMed, MEDLINE (Ovid), EMBASE (Ovid), PsychINFO, CINAHL, and Sociology Collection. Qualitative content analysis was used to deductively identify themes and was guided by Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory, the process-person-context-time (PPCT) model, and the five dimensions of care accessibility (approachability, acceptability, availability and accommodation, appropriateness, affordability). Seventy-three studies met the inclusion criteria. The dimensions of healthcare accessibility shaped the following themes: 1) Acceptability; 2) Appropriateness; 3) Approachability; 4) Availability and Accommodation. Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory and the PPCT model informed the development of the following themes: 1) Immediate Environment/Proximal Processes (Familial Factors, Relationships with Peers; 2) Context (School-Based Services/Community Resources, Discrimination, Prevention, Virtual Care); 3) Person (Engagement in Services/Treatment/Research, Self-management); 4) Time (Immigration Status). The study suggests that there is a growing body of research (21 studies) focused on identifying acceptability factors, including Asian cultural values and the model minority stereotype impacting how East and Southeast Asian immigrant youth access MHSU services. This review also highlighted familial factors (16 studies), including family conflict, lack of MHSU literacy, reliance on family as support, and family-based interventions, as factors affecting how East and Southeast Asian immigrant youth access MHSU care. However, the study also highlighted a dearth of research examining how East and Southeast Asian youth with diverse identities access MHSU services. This review emphasizes the factors related to the access to MHSU services by East and Southeast Asian immigrant youth and families while providing insights that will improve cultural safety. Youth homelessness represents a persistent and significant challenge for service sectors with limited best practice guidance. Housing supports, in particular, are widely deployed, with the practice-oriented literature providing little detail regarding service design beyond broad domains such as employment support and life skills coaching. The present multiple case study investigation was designed to develop a preliminary understanding of the guiding principles that attend the development of interventions that support youth exiting homelessness in the Canadian context. These case studies were conducted with a diverse group of five organizations recognized as sector leaders, with findings considered in light of practice standards from the better-established adult housing literature. Key findings with respect to service models included the strategies used to provide flexible, culturally responsive, tailored services with an emphasis on specialist support. Implementation factors included the navigation of strategic partnerships, the use of data in capacity-building, and the benefits and drawbacks of larger, centralized service environments versus smaller, dispersed environments. Youth-specific considerations in housing stabilization models are highlighted. Individuals experiencing homelessness have a range of unmet needs during homelessness. Less is known about how these daily living needs evolve in the transition to housing and how existing services are supporting individuals to meet these needs. Using the capabilities approach, we conducted a cross-sectional qualitative study with two participant groups (unhoused; housed between 1 and 24 months). Using thematic analysis, we generated five meta-themes to describe the experiences and compare these two groups: (1) Managing mental health and substance use; (2) Creating connection and community; (3) Involvement in something meaningful; (4) Emotional adaptation to impoverished living conditions; and (5) The helping relationship as foundation. Our findings indicate that for individuals to thrive following homelessness, researchers, service providers, and policymakers need to design and implement strategies that target outcomes beyond tenancy sustainment. These key strategies include: (1) facilitating access to resources that enable thriving following homelessness; (2) developing measures that orient programs and policies to target thriving rather than sustaining a tenancy; and (3) including persons with lived experiences of homelessness in the design and delivery of services and in the evaluation of new and existing programs. Integrating the voices of service users and providers in the design and delivery of health services increases the acceptability, relevance, and effectiveness of services. Such efforts are particularly important for youth opioid use treatments and services, which have failed to consider the unique needs of youth and families. Applying community-based participatory research (CBPR) and co-design can facilitate this process by contextualizing service user experiences at individual and community levels and supporting the collaborative design of innovative solutions for improving care. However, few studies demonstrate how to effectively integrate these methods and engage underserved populations in co-design. As such, this manuscript describes how our team wove CBPR and co-design methods to develop solutions for improving youth opioid use treatments and services in Canada. As per CBPR methods, national, provincial, and community partnerships were established to inform and support the project's activities. These partnerships were integral for recruiting service users (i.e., youth and caregivers) and service providers to co-design prototypes and support local testing and implementation. Co-design methods enabled understanding of the needs and experiences of youth, caregivers, and service providers, resulting in meaningful community-specific innovations. We used several engagement methods during the co-design process, including regular working group meetings, small group discussions, individual interviews and consultations, and feedback grids. Challenges involved the time commitment and resources needed for co-design, which were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and limited our ability to engage a diverse sample of youth and caregivers in the process. Strengths of the study included youth and caregiver involvement in the co-design process, which centered around their lived experiences; the therapeutic aspect of the process for participants; and the development of innovations that were accepted by design partners.
