Abstract

Il contributo intende affrontare la prassi statutaria dei più recenti partiti politici, al fine di evidenziare la "crisi" della democrazia interna delle organizzazioni politiche. Ciò, almeno, sotto un duplica aspetto. Da un lato sono codificate regole che attribuiscono ampi poteri a pochi soggetti. Dall'altro, vi è la tendenza a superare le regole statutarie, privilegiando le scelte e ed i diktat di coloro che guidano il partito politico. Nella parte finale del contributo si dialoga con il futuro legislatore al fine di individuare alcune linee guida per una disciplina organica dei partiti politici.

Abstract

The age of onset of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an important outcome predictor. Northern countries report an age of RA onset of around 50 years, but apparently, variability exists across different geographical regions. The objective of the present study is to assess whether the age of onset of RA varies across latitudes worldwide. In a proof-of-concept cross-sectional worldwide survey, rheumatologists from preselected cities interviewed 20 consecutive RA patients regarding the date of RA onset (RAO, when the patient first noted a swollen joint). Other studied variables included location of each city, rheumatologist settings, latitudes (10° increments, south to north), longitudes (three regions), intracountry consistency, and countries’ Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI). Data from 2481 patients (82% females) were obtained from 126 rheumatologists in 77 cities of 41 countries. Worldwide mean age of RAO was 44 ± 14 years (95% CI 44–45). In 28% of patients, RA began before age 36 years and before age 46 years in 50% of patients. RAO was 8 years earlier around the Tropic of Cancer when compared with northern latitudes (p 2 0.045, p 2 0.5). RA often begins at an early age and onset varies across latitudes worldwide. We postulate that countries’ developmental status and their geographical and geomagnetic location influence the age of RAO.

Abstract

Purpose Combined treatment based on cisplatin-loaded Poly(D,L-lactic-co-glicolic)acid (PLGA) nanoparticles (NP-C) plus the NSAID piroxicam was used as novel treatment for mesothelioma to reduce side effects related to cisplatin toxicity. Methods PLGA nanoparticles were prepared by double emulsion solvent evaporation method. Particle size, drug release profile and in vitro cellular uptake were characterized by TEM, DLS, LC/MS and fluorescence microscopy. MSTO-211H cell line was used to analyse NP-C biological efficacy by FACS and protein analysis. Results Cisplatin was encapsulated in 197 nm PLGA nanoparticles with 8.2% drug loading efficiency and 47% encapsulation efficiency. Cisplatin delivery from nanoparticles reaches 80% of total encapsulated drug in 14 days following a triphasic trend. PLGA nanoparticles in MSTO-211H cells were localized in the perinuclear space NP-C in combination with piroxicam induced apoptosis using a final cisplatin concentration 1.75 fold less than free drug. Delivered cisplatin cooperated with piroxicam in modulating cell cycle regulators as caspase-3, p53 and p21. Conclusions Cisplatin loaded PLGA nanoparticles plus piroxicam showed a good efficacy in exerting cytotoxic activity and inducing the same molecular apoptotic effects of the free drugs. Sustained cisplatin release allowed to use less amount of drug, decreasing toxic side effects. This novel approach could represent a new strategy for mesothelioma treatment. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Abstract

The essay analyzes the recent regulatory and jurisprudential developments in gaming and betting, focusing peculiarly on the public administration’s re- sponsibility pro le for the act committed by its concessionaires towards the consumer. The script criticized, in particular, the orientation of the Court of Cassation according to which the supervisory and control powers weighting on the p.a. towards the gaming and betting concessionaire give rise to indirect liability pursuant to art. 2049 of the Italian Civil Code.

Abstract

A higher prevalence of hypertension has been associated with the G -->A/GT (Gly40Ser) polymorphism of the glucagon receptor gene (GCGR) in two population studies. As the mutated receptor is less responsive to glucagon, it has been speculated that the increased susceptibility to hypertension is due to deprivation of the recognized natriuretic effect of the hormone. To test this hypothesis we determined the frequency of the polymorphic variant and evaluated the segmental renal sodium handling by the clearances of uric acid and of exogenous lithium in the Olivetti Heart Study participants (n = 971). The polymorphic variant was present only in heterozygous form in 37 individuals (3.8%). After controlling for age and body mass index, the carriers of the variant were twice more likely to be hypertensive and almost three times more likely to be on antihypertensive treatment at the time of examination. Compared to participants carrying the wild type, those carrying the Gly40Ser allele had higher serum uric acid and lower fractional excretion of uric acid and exogenous lithium, independently of age, body mass, and current pharmacological treatment. We conclude that the Gly40Ser polymorphism of the GCGR gene is associated with higher risk of hypertension and with enhanced proximal tubular sodium reabsorption, a factor possibly contributing to hypertension in this group.

47. Water-Soluble Curcumin Derivatives Including Aza-Crown Ether Macrocycles as Enhancers of their Cytotoxic Activity.

Abstract

The synthesis of three novel curcumin derivative compounds, featuring aza-crown ether macrocycles of various sizes (aza-12-crown-4, aza-15-crown-5, and aza-18-crown-6), is described. The incorporation of these aza-crown macrocycles significantly enhances their water solubility, positioning them as groundbreaking instances of curcumin derivatives that are fully soluble in aqueous environments. These curcumin ligands (L1, L2, and L3) were then reacted with zinc acetate to afford the coordination metal complexes (L1-Zn, L2-Zn, and L3-Zn). Comprehensive characterization of all compounds was achieved using various analytical techniques, including 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry (ESI+), elemental analysis and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The in vitro cytotoxic activity of both, ligands and complexes were evaluated on three human cancer cell lines (U-251, MCF-7, and SK-LU-1). Compared to conventional curcumin, these compounds demonstrated improved antiproliferative potential. Additionally, a wound healing assay was conducted to assess their antimigration properties. The obtained results suggest that these modifications to the curcumin structure represent a promising approach for developing therapeutic agents with enhanced cytotoxic properties., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

49. Inhibition of pepper huasteco yellow veins virus by foliar application of ZnO nanoparticles in Capsicum annuum L.

Abstract

The Pepper huasteco yellow vein virus (PHYVV) is an endemic geminivirus in Mexico causing partial or total losses in the pepper crop since the damage caused by the virus has not been fully controlled. In this work, we evaluated the effect of ZnO NPs (0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 mM) as a preventive (72 h before) and curative (72 h after) treatment of PHYVV infection in two jalapeño pepper varieties. In this study, we observed a decrease in symptoms, and it could be caused by an induction of the defense system in pepper plants and a direct action on PHYVV by foliar application of ZnO NPs. Our findings suggest that ZnO NP application significantly decreased the viral titer for both varieties at 200 mM by 15.11-fold. However, this effect was different depending on the timing of application and the variety of pepper. The greatest decrease in the viral titer in the preventive treatment in both varieties was at the concentration of 200 mM (1781.17 and 274.5 times, respectively). For curative treatment in cv. Don Pancho at the concentration of 200 mM (333.33 times) and cv. Don Benito at 100 mM (43.10 folds). compared to control. Furthermore, virus mobility was generally restricted for both varieties at 100 mM (15.13-fold) compared to the control. The results possibly delineated that ZnO NPs increased plant resistance possibly by increasing POD (2.08 and 0.25 times) and SOD (0.998 and 1.38) in cv. Don Pancho and cv. Don Benito, respectively. On the other hand, in cv. Don Pancho and cv. Don Benito presented a decrease in CAT (0.61 and 0.058) and PAL (0.78 and 0.77), respectively. Abstract

In the title compounds, 3-(dihydroxyboryl)anilinium bisulfate monohydrate, C 6 H 9 BNO 2 + ·HSO 4 - ·H 2 O (I), and 3-(dihydroxyboryl)anilinium methyl sulfate, C 6 H 9 BNO 2 + ·CH 3 SO 4 - (II), the almost planar boronic acid molecules are linked by pairs of O-H...O hydrogen bonds, forming centrosymmetric motifs that can be described by the graph-set R 2 2 (8) motif. In both crystals, the B(OH) 2 group acquires a syn-anti conformation (with respect to the H atoms). The presence of the hydrogen-bonding functional groups B(OH) 2 , NH 3 + , HSO 4 - , CH 3 SO 4 - and H 2 O generates three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded networks, in which the bisulfate (HSO 4 - ) and methyl sulfate (CH 3 SO 4 - ) counter-ions act as the central building blocks within the crystal structures. Furthermore, in both structures, the packing is stabilized by weak boron-π interactions, as shown by noncovalent interactions (NCI) index calculations.
