Juvenile delinquency, where young people engage in criminal behavior, is a serious concern for society due to high arrest rates among minors. Delinquent behavior is a serious concern due to its devastating effect on the well-being of society. The relationship between genetics and violent behavior is complex and not fully understood. This study aims to investigate the correlation between specific genetic traits, particularly CRHR1 and FKBP5 genes, and sociodemographic characteristics in the context of their age, gender, socioeconomic status, and crime history of delinquent behavior in adolescents. The study was designed as a single-center hospital-based case–control study involving 45 adolescents for each study group: control and those showing delinquent behavior, case group. Findings revealed an abnormal CRHR1 expression in male teenagers is a strong indicator and presents the risk for violent and delinquent behavior. Understanding specific genetic markers, like abnormal CRHR1 expression, helps target assessments and interventions. Additionally, recognizing sociodemographic factors associated with delinquency allows for a more comprehensive approach, considering the various influences on adolescent behavior. It is known to be largely related to behavioural changes and neuropsychiatric disorders, and studies demonstrating the influence of eNOS gene variants in the development of depressive, aggressive and suicidal behaviours exist in the literature. Here, we investigate two polymorphisms in the eNOS gene, namely, G894T (Glu298Asp) and intron 4 VNTR, as possible genetic contributing factors to cannabis addiction. DNA samples used in this work were purified from the peripheral blood of 94 unrelated Turkish cannabis-dependent subjects and 100 Turkish control subjects from the southeastern region of Turkey. The eNOS polymorphisms were characterised by the PCR and/or PCR-RFLP (Polymerase Chain Reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism) method. The De-finetti programme, chi-square, Fisher’s exact test, odds ratio and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used for statistical analysis. The incidence of aa and TT genotypes and the frequency of the alleles a and T were found to be significantly higher in the cannabis addicts group than in the control subjects (p < 0.05). The results indicate that G894T and intron 4 VNTR eNOS gene polymorphisms are statistically-significant contributing factors to susceptibility to cannabis addiction, while the same polymorphism alleles associated with high NO levels are a protective factor in Turkish subjects. Background: Numerous studies demonstrated that STRs have become powerful tools in forensic case work. Aim: To profile DNA samples from 104 Turkish males for 13 autosomal, STR markers intended for human identification purposes and to estimate the allele frequency distribution in forensic cases in a Turkish population. Subjects and methods: Thirteen autosomal STR loci, namely D3S1358, D2S1338, D16S539, D8S1179, D21S11, D18S51, TH01, D13S317, D7S820, CSF1PO, TPOX, D5S818 and FGA, were analysed in a sample of 104 healthy and unrelated Turkish individuals who have been living in the city of İzmir. All loci were amplified by using AmpFlSTR Identifier Kit. Genetic analysis was carried out on an ABI PRISM 310 Genetic Analyser. Results: For each locus, 6–15 alleles were found with frequencies ranging from 0.005–0.514 and heterozygosities ranging from 0.686–0.868. The PIC value was highly significant (0.999). Conclusion: The 13 STR loci in the AmpFlSTR Identifier Kit are suitable for forensic identification and paternity tests due to high heterozygosity. The observed PD value is sufficiently high for human identification purposes. In conclusion, the 13 STR loci seem to be useful markers for personal identification and forensic case work in the Turkish population. In this study, we investigate the existence of a possible genetic association between 1359 G/A polymorphism of the Central Cannabinoid Receptor 1 (CNR1) Gene CNR1 (p.Thr453Thr; rs1049353) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and cannabis addiction. DNA samples used in this work are purified from venous leukocytes of 145 unrelated Turkish cannabis-dependent subjects and 140 Turkish control subjects. No significant difference is observed in genotype or allele frequencies of CNR1 1359 G/A polymorphism between these two groups. We also compared CNR1 1359 G/A polymorphism allele frequency distribution in our healthy Turkish population with other healthy populations. The comparison of healthy Turkish subjects with the healthy subjects from English-Irish, Chinese, European-American, African-American, Italian, German and Japanese populations revealed significant differences in allele frequencies. Data indicate that the 1359 G/A CNR1 polymorphism does not contribute to susceptibility to cannabinoid addiction in Turkish subjects.
