Background: The aim of this study was to examine the different aspects of anxiety symptom clusters in four groups of pediatric patients. Methods: The sample consisted of 194 schoolchildren: 48 patients with headaches, 56 children with asthma, 48 children with diabetes and 42 healthy children. Cilj: S porastom interesa za ispitivanjem kvalitete života povezane sa zdravljem razvija se i sve veći broj mjernih instrumenata za ispitivanje ovog konstrukta. Međutim, samo mali broj upitnika zadovoljava metodološke kriterije pouzdanosti, valjanosti i osjetljivosti. Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je provjeriti metrijske karakteristike i praktičnu primjenjivost hrvatske verzije upitnika PedsQL 4.0 za procjenu opće kvalitete života povezane sa zdravljem i PedsQL Diabetes Module upitnika za procjenu kvalitete života djece oboljele od dijabetesa. Metoda:U ispitivanju su sudjelovala djeca oboljela od dijabetesa tip1 (N=47) i zdrava djeca (N=152). Primijenjena su dva upitnika za procjenu kvalitete života: PedsQL 4.0 upitnik za procjenu opće kvalitete života povezane sa zdravljem i PedsQL Diabetes Module za procjenu kvalitete života djece oboljele od dijabetesa. Rezultati: Faktorskom analizom upitnika PedsQL 4.0 i PedsQL Diabetes Module utvrđena je jednofaktorska struktura svih subskala oba upitnika. Analizom pouzdanosti utvrđeno je da se pouzdanost svih subskala PedsQL 4.0 upitnika kreće od 0, 71 do 0, 88 na uzorku zdrave djece te od 0, 76 do 0, 82 na uzorku djece oboljele od dijabetesa. Pouzdanost subskala PedsQL Diabetes Module upitnika kreće se od 0, 76 do 0, 86. Međutim, odlučeno je da se izbace dvije čestice iz PedsQL Diabetes Module upitnika zbog njihove niske povezanosti sa ukupnim rezultatom na subskalama. Zaključak: Evaluacijom upitnika PedsQL 4.0 i PedQL Diabetes Module na hrvatskom uzorku zdrave i djece oboljele od dijabetesa utvrđene su njihove zadovoljavajuće metrijske karakteristike.

Basic personality traits and specific behavior characteristics were assess in 39 patients (12 to 15 years old) having chronic tension-type headache. Patients were referred for clinical examination to the Neural-pediatrics Ward of the Department of Pediatrics, Osijek, Croatia. Eysenck Personality Questionnaire – Juniors (EPQ-J), a new Croatian personality Questionnaire of domination, aggression, introversion and ambition (DAIA), were applied for the testing. The scores obtained by patients in personality questionnaires were compared with averages scores normal sample of healthy pupil same ages. Our patients were found to have no signs of emotional instability. Their behavior is prosocial, nonaggressive, and ambitious, aimed at the achievement of superior results at school and life although already quite successful in their studies. Tensions arising from the school setting seem to be important factors triggering tension-type headaches.

To overcome the limitation of the currently adopted direct method to detect recombinant Human Erythropoietin (rHuEpo) abuse in sport, indirect analysis of blood parameters are increasingly used as part of the anti-doping strategies. The aim of the present work is to identify whether immunophenotype modifications on erythroid cells may be indicative of previous rHuEPO administration. The study was conducted on dialyzed patients under treatment with rHuEPO (DPT). Dialyzed patients without rHuEPO therapy (DP) and volunteer donors (H) were used as controls. The analysis of erythroid cells immunophenotype, performed using a multiparametric flow cytometry technique, showed a peculiar pattern of CD71 expression following rHuEPO treatment. In particular CD71 showed an increased expression in mature and intermediate reticulocytes and a surprisingly decreased expression in immature reticulocytes. In conclusion, the analysis of reticulocyte maturation stages with TO/CD71 double staining may be considered as a valid alternative indirect method for the detection of rHuEPO abuse.
