Perioperative nurses' actions surrounding cardiac surgery are crucial for patient recovery. Detecting risk factors for delayed surgical recovery contributes to development of care plans to minimize perioperative complications. Results of this study are relevant to the clinical practice of surgical nurses, confirming nurses are essential in assessing the recovery of patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Os acidentes ofídicos são considerados um problema de saúde pública principalmente em áreas rurais. Na Amazônia, o problema é agravado devido às longas distâncias existentes entre os locais de ocorrência do acidente e o atendimento médico, que reforça a pratica do conhecimento popular no cuidado e o uso de plantas medicinais. O objetivo do estudo foi identificar o uso das plantas medicinais e práticas do cuidado utilizadas em acidentes ofídicos nas comunidades ribeirinhas do Município de Afuá-Pará, localizadas na Ilha do Maracujá, Brasil. Estudo exploratório, quantitativo, de amostragem não probabilística do tipo bola de neve, teve um total de 50 pessoas participantes, sendo a coleta realizada por meio de questionário com variáveis sociodemograficas, identificação do acidente ofídico, e de caracterização do uso das plantas e outras práticas culturais. Entre os acidentes ofídicos 82% ocorreram por jararaca (Bothrops sp.), a maioria no sexo masculino, e emmembros inferiores. As espécies vegetais utilizadas para o ofidismo são: Anacardium occidentale L., Annona muricata L., Manihot tripartita (Spreng.) Müll. Arg., Piper Peltatum L., Genipa americana L.. Quanto às práticas culturais a mais utilizadas foia urina com barro. O conhecimento da medicina tradicional dos ribeirinhos da Ilha do Maracujá é enraizado no processo de colonização do local, envolvendo a ida e vinda de moradores pelos rios da região. Background: Skin changes caused by aging increase the risk of skin damages, such as pressure ulcers, during hospitalization of elderly patients. There is few information about the cost of wound treatment in Brazil. Conversely, skin and wound problems are highly reported among hospitalized elderly patients and caregivers. The purpose is to analyze the socio-demographic and clinical profile associated with skin and wound care in hospitalized elderly. Methods: This is a prospective observational study. The sample consisted of 75 patients, aged 60 years or more, randomly selected in three hospitals in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Data extraction from nursing records of the sample, using cross mapping with Nursing Interventions Classification. Data Synthesis supported by SAS 6.11 (SAS Institute, Inc. Cary North Carolina) in association with SPSS version 14.0 and statistics analysis. Results: The findings were: age standard deviation 7.8, with minimum as 60, and maximum as 91 years old. Prevalence of women and married seniors. High prevalence of long-term hospitalization. There were 21 Nursing Interventions in the nursing records and seventeen of them related to skin and wound care. They were described in 57 nursing activities, present during 376 evaluations and repeated 1756 times. A significant difference was obtained between age and the presence of the nursing interventions "Positioning" (p-0.004), Eye Care/Hygiene (p- < 0.0001) and Oral Health Maintenance (p-0.0003). Conclusion: The skin care to prevention and treatment of skin damages represented the major demand of nursing interventions in different clinical conditions of hospitalized elderly. Objective: to analyze the process of tissue repair in patients with venous ulcers using inelastic compression therapy (the Unna Boot), in comparison with the use of the elastic bandage. Method: a controlled randomized clinical trial in which the patients (n=18) were allocated to two groups, those who used the Unna Boot (group B) and those who used the elastic bandage (group A). The study's follow-up period was 13 weeks. Results: a significant reduction took place, at the level of 5%, in the area, in square centimeters, of the ulcers of group B (p<0.0001) throughout the treatment, and there was a tendency of group A for reduction in the area of the ulcer, in centimeters squared (p=0.06), only after the fifth week. Conclusion: the treatment with the Unna Boot presented better results in venous ulcers with areas over 10cm², and the elastic bandage with Petrolatum® gauze in venous ulcers below 10cm². Aim: To make an integrative review to examine the scientific evidences relating to the identification of microorganisms commonly isolated in contaminated tissular lesions and the main products used on them. Method: This is an integrative review originating from the search with the descriptors Leg ulcer, infection, bacteria and Nursing, in the databases LILACS, IBECS, MEDLINE, Cochrane and SciELO, including articles published between 2003 and 2013. Results: A total of 14 articles were selected, of which seven were observational and the other seven were experimental studies. Discussion: Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonasaeruginosa were the most prevalent microorganisms in the evaluated tissular lesions, followed by Enterobacter, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Acinetobacter. The main products used were silver alginate, silver sulfadiazine, ultraviolet light and papain, which are effective in reducing the bacterial load of infected injuries. Conclusion: The early identification of the presence of microorganisms in lesions allows the decision in terms of the appropriate propaedeutics to be performed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Analyze the publications that focus on the administration of medications in nursing care in major databases in the period 2007 to 2011. Method: An integrative review study conducted in the databases of the Virtual Health Library (Lilacs and Scielo) in the period from 20/05/2011 to 18/06/2011 in 16 references analyzed between the years 2007 to 2011. Results and Discussion: Stand out as keynote discussions, training with the help of the virtual environment of learning through distance education, errors in prescriptions that led to errors in medication administration, importance of prevention to avoid mistakes. Conclusion: Yet if such occurrences are attacks with directions, recommendations and staff training, better communication between them, then the work environment will be better and the risks related to errors in medication administration will decrease sharply.
