Dissolving microneedle patch (DMNP) is a minimally invasive and painless self-administration device. However, due to skin deformation, it is difficult to apply it on the large areas of skin or curved skin as the patch size increased for DMNP. Here, we propose a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based dissolving microneedle roller (DMNR) device that can be used for delivering drugs rapidly on the large surface areas or curved skin and does not need to be attached on the skin all the time during drug delivery. The hypoglycemic effect of insulin-loaded DMNRs for transdermal delivery of insulin was studied on the type 1 diabetic rat models. It was found that the insulin-loaded DMNR has an immediate and effective hypoglycemic effect that the blood glucose level reduced below to 50% of original blood glucose at 1 h after DMNRs administrated.

Developing n-type materials with high peak and/or average ZT (ZT is the figure of merit) is an urgent need for the lower ZT of the existing n-type BiTeSe materials compared with the p-type BiSbTe materials. Here, we demonstrate that liquid-phase sintering can lead to lowered thermal conductivity and an improved power factor in n-type Ag2Se, which originates from the greatly lowered electronic thermal conductivity attributed to the decreased mobility and improved Seebeck coefficients because of increased effective mass. Benefiting from this, the maximum ZT (ZTmax) of ∼1.21 and the average ZT (ZTave) of 1.06 are successfully achieved in polycrystalline Ag2Se. In this work, ZTave is the highest reported value, being 26% larger than that of Ag2Se reported. Our work shows that liquid-phase sintering to achieve improved thermoelectric (TE) performance opens a great opportunity for designing prospective thermoelectrics.

When overexposed to ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation, skin can cause a series of abnormal reactions, such as excessive pigmentation and solar elastosis. In order to better treat the skin after overexposed to UVB, we designed a dissolving microneedles (MNs) loading hydrophilic ascorbic acid and hydrophobic vitamin A palmitate to achieve codelivery. Here, we confirmed that MNs had enough mechanical strength to insert the skin and two drugs were delivered subcutaneously in sequence in vitro. In white guinea pigs, surface observation and histological observation results confirmed that two drugs by MNs transdermal delivery were better than topical administration in the treatment of UVB-damaged skin. The MNs provide a method of loading different drugs into the needles and advance the development of transdermal drug delivery.

In the male reproductive tract, the epididymis is an essential organ for sperm maturation, in which sperm cells acquire mobility and the ability to fertilize oocytes while being stored in a protective microenvironment. Epididymal function involves a specialized luminal microenvironment established by the epithelial cells of epididymal mucosa. Low-calcium concentration is a unique feature of this epididymal luminal microenvironment, its relevance and regulation are, however, incompletely understood. Considering the staggering global prevalence of local pain affecting hundreds of million individuals, it is of great significance to develop advanced dosage forms or delivery systems for analgesic therapy to fulfill clinical applicability. In this study, a hydrogel microneedles (MNs) system made out of gelatin-methacryloyl (GelMA) was designed to deliver lidocaine hydrochloride (LiH) in a sustained manner, and the drug loading capacity of the GelMA MNs was increased considerably by using the backing layer reservoir. The in vitro and in vivo tests showed that the fabricated GelMA MNs are strong enough for reliable skin application, and achieve high drug delivery efficiency as compared with the commercial lidocaine patches. The Spared-nerve injury (SNI) model of rats was also prepared to test behavioral pain sensitivity in response to mechanical stimuli, which proved that the LiH/GelMA MNs can enhance and prolong the anesthetic effect of LiH. In addition, with biosafety evaluation in rats, the MNs treated site restored to normal appearance within several hours of application and no dermatosis-related side effects or behavior disorders were observed during the experiment. Together these results indicated that the use of GelMA MNs for transdermal delivery of LiH is an effective, safe and simple treatment method to provide a better choice for local long-lasting analgesia.

Epithelial endocytosis is essential for physiological homeostasis. The current dogma is that all endocytotic mechanisms involve only single-membrane vesicles at the plasma membrane. Here, we report a previously undescribed LC3-associated phagocytosis mechanism which forms double-membrane phagosomes from the epithelial tight-junction paracellular membranes, which we term “paraphagy”. We observed that paraphagy is present in epithelia of the renal, respiratory, circulatory, and male reproductive systems. In the epididymis, paraphagy takes up lipophilic cargo, including apolipoproteins, by involving the surface low-affinity IgG-receptor Fcgr2b and occludin-bound intracellular HDL-receptor ATP5b. In this way, extracellular lipophilic signals are sensed and intracellular phagolysosomes are maintained. Occludin-null male mice show arrested paraphagy and impaired phagolysosome in proximal epididymal compartments, accompanying cholesterol accumulation, ApoJ deposition and dysregulated metabolic-dependent processes in distal compartments, including redox-promoted VK-dependent MGP-carboxylation. We propose that paraphagy senses and distinguishes the luminal lipophilic signals in epithelia and modulates their function via crosstalk across physiological compartments.

In recent years, applications of microneedle (MN) technology in medical health sensing devices and platforms have been developed due to its advantages of minimal invasiveness, real-time, and convenience. Electrochemical biosensors and interstitial fluid (ISF) direct extraction are two types of MN based technologies applied in medical sensing. In MN based electrochemical biosensors, conducting polymers (CPs), enzymes, nanoparticles, and their composites are used to modify MN electrodes to selectively monitor glucose, lactate, alcohol, urea, amino acids, therapeutic drugs, or bio-signals recording. In MN based ISF direct extraction for further sensing, silicon, silicon oxide, and some polymers are introduced to the fabrication of hollow or hydrogel MNs. These two types of MN based technologies were employed in glucose monitoring, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), protein analysis, etc. This review is to present the development and application of MN based technologies on electrochemical biosensors and ISF direct extraction and also to describe some prospects and limitations on medical sensing.

Principal cells regulate the ionic environment of the epididymal lumen via unknown mechanisms. Gao et al. use electrophysiological and pharmacological tools to characterize rat principal cells and reveal a TRPV6-mediated calcium conductance and TMEM16A-mediated calcium-activated chloride conductance., The epididymis establishes a congenial environment for sperm maturation and protection. Its fluid is acidic, and the calcium concentration is low and declines along the length of the epididymal tubule. However, our knowledge of ionic currents and mechanisms of calcium homeostasis in rat epididymal epithelial cells remains enigmatic. In this study, to better understand calcium regulation in the epididymis, we use the patch-clamp method to record from single rat cauda epididymal principal cells. We detect a constitutively active Ca2+ current with characteristics that match the epithelial calcium channel TRPV6. Electrophysiological and pharmacological data also reveal a constitutively active calcium-activated chloride conductance (CaCC). Removal of extracellular calcium attenuates not only the TRPV6-like conductance, but also the CaCC. Lanthanide block is time dependent such that the TRPV6-like component is inhibited first, followed by the CaCC. The putative CaCC blocker niflumic acid partially inhibits whole-cell currents, whereas La3+ almost abolishes whole-cell currents in principal cells. Membrane potential measurements reveal an interplay between La3+-sensitive ion channels and those that are sensitive to the specific TMEM16A inhibitor tannic acid. In vivo perfusion of the cauda epididymal tubule shows a substantial rate of Ca2+ reabsorption from the luminal side, which is dose-dependently suppressed by ruthenium red, a putative blocker of epithelial Ca2+ channels and CaCC. Finally, we discover messenger RNA for both TRPV6 and TMEM16A in the rat epididymis and show that their proteins colocalize in the apical membrane of principal cells. Collectively, these data provide evidence for a coupling mechanism between TRPV6 and TMEM16A in principal cells that may play an important role in the regulation of calcium homeostasis in the epididymis.

Adventitial fibroblasts (AFs) can be activated by angiotensin II (Ang II) and exert pro-fibrotic and pro-inflammatory effects in vascular remodeling. Protease-activated receptor (PAR) 1 and 2 play a significant role in fibrogenic and inflammatory diseases. The present study hypothesized that PAR1 and PAR2 are involved in Ang II-induced AF activation and contribute to adventitial remodeling. We found that direct activation of PAR1 and PAR2 with PAR1-AP and PAR2-AP led to AF activation, including proliferation and differentiation of AFs, extracellular matrix synthesis, as well as production of pro-fibrotic cytokine TGF-β and pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and MCP-1. Furthermore, PAR1 and PAR2 mediated Ang II-induced AF activation, since both PAR1 and PAR2 antagonists inhibited Ang II-induced proliferation, migration, differentiation, extracellular matrix synthesis and production of pro-fibrotic and pro-inflammatory cytokines in AFs. Finally, mechanistic study showed that Ang II, via Ang II type I receptor (AT1R), upregulated both PAR1 and PAR2 expression, and transactivated PAR1 and PAR2, as denoted by internalization of both proteins. In conclusion, our results suggest that PAR1 and PAR2 play a critical role in Ang II-induced AF activation, and this may contribute to adventitia-related pathological changes.

It is critical to monitor glucose level in the health management of diabetes patients. In this work, we developed a polylactic acid (PLA) based microneedle (MN) based glucose sensor. This PLA MN base was then coated with gold as the conductive layer, overoxidized polypyrrole (OPPy), gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), glucose oxidase (GOx), and Nafion. In vitro test, this glucose MN sensor showed a linear range from 0 to 2.6 mM with a sensitivity of 8.09 μA/mM, limit of detection (LOD) of 40 μM and not affected by ascorbic acid (AA), urea, glycine (Gly), acetaminophen (AP) in phosphate buffer solution,. The composite of OPPy and AuNPs improved the sensor sensitivity and GOx adhesive ability to the electrode. Nafion film protected the sensor from interfering substances. In the stability test, the sensor exhibited a stable monitoring sensitivity after 2 weeks. This work demonstrates this MN sensor has the potential to be applied in minimally invasive glucose monitoring.

The epididymis is an essential organ for sperm maturation and reproductive health. The epididymal epithelium consists of intricately connected cell types that are distinct not only in molecular and morphological features but also in physiological properties. These differences reflect their diverse functions, which together establish the necessary microenvironment for the post-testicular sperm development in the epididymal lumen. The understanding of the biophysical properties of the epididymal epithelial cells is critical for revealing their functions in sperm and reproductive health, under both physiological and pathophysiological conditions. While their functional properties have yet to be fully elucidated, the epididymal epithelial cells can be studied using the patch-clamp technique, a tool for measuring the cellular events and the membrane properties of single cells. Here, we describe the methods of cell isolation and whole-cell patch-clamp recording to measure the electrical properties of primary dissociated epithelial cells from the rat cauda epididymides.

As an approach of transdermal drug delivery, coated microneedles (MNs) have received extensive attention. Dip-coating method is a commonly used method in the preparation of coated MNs, due to its simple fabrication process and low cost. In this work, we proposed four different coating methods based on the dip-coating process, including dip-coating with a dam board, a roller, a fixture and a limit. The drug loading of the single MN prepared from the four methods was not significant (p > 0.05), from 15 to 16 ng. The minimum deviation of drug loading achieved 12.3% from the fixture device method. The in vitro drug delivery was also evaluated and the results revealed that the MNs fabricated from all methods could achieve about 90% drug delivery efficiency. All the results demonstrated that the dip-coating with a fixture method could guarantee a better homogeneous drug loading, which may be potential for future large-scale production of drug coated MNs.

In this paper, we mainly talk about two kinds of ZnO nanostructure materials which are rod and flower structure by hydrothermal growth as photoanode of quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs). Using chemical bath deposition to assemble CdS quantum dots onto ZnO nanostructure materials, and after different CBD cycles we could get the cell parameters of different CBD cycles respectively in their I-V curves, from which we could see it is the flower structure that has the highest efficiency which is 0.346% after 9 CBD cycles and the short-circuit current is 2.88 mA/cm2. Therefore, we could see that ZnO flower structure has a potential application in solar cell devices as the photoelectrode to gain higher photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE).

A nitrogen-doped titania nanoparticle film on an ITO substrate was successfully obtained by gas phase method. Such a nitrogen-doped titania nanoparticle film on an ITO substrate shows efficient at the responsivity under the visible light exposure. TiO2 photo-anode with N-doped was fabricated using nanocrystalline pastes and their N719-sensitization led to a short-circuit photocurrent density of 3.95 mA/cm2 and a solar energy conversion efficiency of 1.72% under air-mass 1.5 global and illumination with the intensity of 100 mW/cm2 (AM 1.5G, 100 mW/cm2).

In this paper we use electrochemical deposition to grow a layer of gray compact film on the steel, characterized the product by X-ray diffraction (XRD) we find the ZnO cone-like rods and hierarchical rod-like nanostructure are all preferentially growing along the C-axis, which is confirmed by the direction of crystal growth in the transmission electron microscope (TEM) image. In the TEM image we find the hierarchical ZnO nanorods have an in situ growth in the high-energy electron beam irradiation, which makes the specific surface area increase and to some extent enhance the absorption of light energy.

SEM, XRD were utilized to characterize morphologies and crystal structures of ZnO. It was indicated that the concentration of precursor solution leads to the significantly changes in the nanostructured ZnO. The possible growth mechanism is discussed in this work.

ZnO was a promising n-type conductive semiconductor material for dye-sensitized solar cells. Stable and efficient preparation of high quality p-type ZnO films became the main difficulty in current research. In this paper, a nitrogen-doped ZnO columnar film on an indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate was successfully obtained by gas phase method. The absorption of visible light was improved by nitrogen-doped ZnO columnar films. This experiment provided a good strategy for the full utilization of solar energy.

This paper had studied on the zero temperature compensation of fluidic gyroscope based on MEMS thermistor. Through the analysis of temperature characteristics of jet gyro sensitive element, two methods of comparison of zero temperature compensation was compared. Then, introduction of SCM and temperature sensor, to achieve zero temperature compensation for gyro output signal. The experiment shows: after compensation, zero voltage variation gyro reduced from 150mV to 10mV, working temperature range from room temperature to-40°C ~+55 °C. The fluidic gyroscope zero temperature compensated with zero drift is low, wide working temperature range advantages.

In this paper, the airflow of two different chamber structures is analyzed contrastively in the sensitive element of fluidic gyroscopes. Using ANSYS-FLOTRAN CFD software, the finite element simulation is conducted by a series of procedures, such as two-dimensional model building of fluidic gyroscope, meshing, loads applying and equation solving, we calculate the two dimensional airflow distribution of rectangle chamber and streamline chamber in sensitive element of fluidic gyroscope. The results show that the airflow velocity of the exit section in the streamline chamber which is 28.87% of the nozzle velocity is higher than that in the rectangle chamber structure, so the streamline chamber structure brings airflow together to a certain extent, and it also reduces the airflow accumulation in the chamber and smoothes airflow within the loop channel, lastly velocity gradient change in the streamline chamber is greater than that in the rectangle chamber, and the resolution of fluidic gyroscope is better than that with rectangle chamber.

This paper introduced the vary application filtration treatment systems, different grades of water and several media materials that could be applied in infiltration treatment systems, along with characteristic of these media materials. The characterization and analyses of the media and their effects on the removal of specific contaminants, and factors affecting the fate and behavior of various contaminants in filtration systems were discussed. Case studies of the appropriate application of infiltration treatment systems were also included.

Based on the linearity of the MEMS thermal element fluidic gyroscope compensation. By analyzing the results of the linear characteristic of the fluidic gyroscope sensor output, comparator linearity compensation two implementation methods, the introduction of the microcontroller and the temperature sensor, to achieve the linearity compensation of the gyro output signal. The experiments show that: after compensation, the non-linearity of the fluidic gyroscope5%down to 0.5%, to-120°/s~+120°/s measurement range from-40°/s~+40°/s Fluidic gyroscope linearity compensation with low non-linearity, wide measuring range.

On the basis of the craft manufacturing and designing about micro fluidic gyroscope, according to analyze the craft information and studying on the process simulation technology about the MEMS thermal components. Established a basic model of t the craft structure about the MEMS thermal components, based on this model, the L-Edit editor to edit creating a complete mask layout structure; studying a simulation method of craft process, the use of the technological editor which development based on the TCL/TK language to draw out the craft process document, then reconstructed the layout structure based the craft process in a 3D platform. It could be used to detect the rationality of the process program technology.

Against the deflect that the existing fluidic gyroscope airflow channel structure was easy to cause the flocculating flow. This paper presented a kind of elliotic-drum flow cavity structure. Using the finite element method, calculated the flow field in the closed cavity at different angular velocity input. The results showed that the gas flow path of the main airflow distribution was streamlined, there did not form the vortex area which could reduce the energy additional losses, when the angular rate input changed, then the jet flow field distribution didnt keep equal and symmetrical, the jet speed difference at the hot sensitive wire changed with angular velocity, thus revealing the drum-shape cavity fluidic gyroscope sensitive mechanism.

The flow distribution of fluidic gyroscope with three different cavities was researched when angular velocity ωi is input. Using Finite element method we calculated two-dimensional flow distribution of fluidic gyroscope with rectangular cavity and two streamlined cavity structures when ωi input. The results show that: with ωi increasing, the fluidic beam centers in three cavities have a more deviation on one side, while in two streamlined cavities it deviates obviously. When ωi is 10rad/s, velocity difference of two thermal wires in streamlined cavity 1 and cavity 2 increase 42.59% and 59.30% respectively compared with rectangular cavity, velocity and y-axial velocity of two thermal wires in streamlined cavity 1 are smaller than rectangular cavity but larger than streamlined cavity 2, but x-axial velocity of two thermal wires in streamlined cavity 1 are smaller than other two cavities, and so is ωi = 15rad/s. It also shows that velocity difference between two thermal wires in streamlined cavity 1 is larger than others, and temperature difference is larger, which can improve the resolution of fluidic gyroscope. This article has laid a theoretical foundation to further enhance performance of fluidic gyroscopes.

The impact that distance between thermal wires and nozzle on flow distribution of fluidic gyroscope with three different cavity structures was researched. Using the Finite element method we calculated the two-dimensional flow distribution of fluidic gyroscope with rectangular cavity and two streamlined cavity structures when the distance d between thermal wires and nozzle is different. The results show that: flow velocity at the outlet in two streamlined cavities is larger than that in rectangular cavity, which is 28.87% and 28.91% of flow velocity at the nozzle respectively; the velocity in the three cavities decrease with d, the velocity in streamlined cavity 1 is always larger than that in streamlined cavity 2. When d = 16mm and 17mm, there are a larger velocity and a smaller x-axial velocity of the fluidic beam center in streamlined cavity 1, and velocity difference of two thermal wires increase, so the resolution of fluidic gyroscope can have an improvement.

The influence of thermal wires position on resolution of fluidic gyroscope with three different cavities was researched. Using Finite element method we calculated two-dimensional flow distribution of fluidic gyroscope with rectangular cavity and two streamlined cavities when the thermal wires are in different positions. As the results shown: define d is the distance between thermal wires and the nozzle along the fluidic beam propagation direction, when d ≥ 13mm, velocity 4SSUM in streamlined cavity 1 is bigger than velocity 2SSUM in streamlined cavity 2. When d >16mm, velocity SX of two streamlined cavities decrease faster than RX of rectangular cavity, which reduce the vortex phenomena in cavity. With the distance away from the center axis of cavity increases, the velocity gradient increases, and increasing the distance between two thermal wires within a certain range can increase velocity difference of two when angular velocity ωi inputs, temperature difference increases, so it increases the resolution of fluidic gyroscopes. This paper has an instructional role on structure optimization and performance improvement of fluidic gyroscopes.

This paper reports about a nozzle array structure fluidic gyroscope. The gyro used setting sub-nozzle around the main nozzle to inhibit the attenuation which had been caused by the main nozzle jet column spread out and to increase the angular velocity difference of sensitive element in the thermal resistance wire when the jet flow rate had been input, thereby to improve the performance of the jet gyro. The test results showed that: a resolution of better than 0.1°/s nozzle formation jet gyro sensitivity better than 10mv/(0.1°/s), the measurement range is better than ± 60°/s; non-linearity of better than 1%.The impact of the gyroscope impact resistance capability, small size and wide range of applications.

This paper presents a comparative study to improve the resolution of the fluidic gyro. Using ANSYS-FLOTRAN-CFD software, the finite element simulation has been conducted by series of procedures, such as model building, meshing, loads applying and equation solving, the flow distribution in the sensitive element of the single nozzle and nozzle array fluidic gyro was calculated separately. The results show that the air outlet flow gradient of the array type nozzle increases by 1.1%, the flow velocity difference of symmetrically heat resistance wires in sensitive element increases by 14.3%; the nozzle array structure can effectively improve the resolution of the fluidic gyroscope.

In this paper, the pendulum characteristic of nature convection gas in dimensional enclosure is analyzed by FEM. Using ANSYS-FLOTRAN CFD program, the stream field and the temperature field caused by the point heat source, when the two-dimensional enclosure is inclined, has been obtained by a series of procedure, such as model building, meshing, loads applying and equation solving. The results are as follow: (1)Under the buoyancy lift affecting, the direction of nature convection gas always keeps the vertical upward in two-dimensional enclosure, nature convection gas has the pendulum characteristic. (2)When the dimensional enclosure is inclined, temperature distribution at the several points in dimensional enclosure will change with the tilt angle. The pendulum characteristic can be utilized to measure the tilt angle by the gas pendulum tilt sensor.

In this paper, influence of the outlet aperture of sensitive chamber on the stability of fluidic gyroscope has been studied. Using ANSYS-FLOTRAN CFD software, the finite element simulation was conducted by a series of procedures, such as two-dimensional model building of fluidic gyro, meshing, loads applying and equation solving, we calculated the airflow distribution in sensitive chamber of fluidic gyro with different outlet apertures. The results show that the airflow would decay and diffuse after it injects into the chamber through nozzle, the bigger the outlet aperture, the smaller the pressure in the outlet-side and the airflow velocity discharged from the outlet, and the more seriously the airflow decay and spread. An effective way to improve the stability and structural optimization of the fluidic gyro output has been studied in this paper.

In this paper we have a comparative study to improve the measurement range of the fluidic gyroscope. Using ANSYS-FLOTRAN CFD software, finite element simulation was conducted by a series of procedures, such as two-dimensional model building, meshing, applied loads and equation solving, we calculated the flow distribution in the sensitive component of fluidic gyroscope with single nozzle and nozzle array. The results show that the upper limit measurement of fluidic gyroscope is the input angular velocity when fluidic column axis deflects to the position of thermistors, and using nozzle array can change the airflow distribution in the sensitive component and achieve the purpose of improving the measurement range of fluidic gyroscope.

A novel oxovanadium complex was obtained by the reaction of VOSO4 · 3H2O with tripyrazolylborate sodium in MeOH. The complex (1) was characterized by element analysis, IR spectroscopy, 1HNMR and its crystal for X-ray diffraction recrystallized from saturated CH3CN solution. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic, space group Pbca, with cell dimensions of a = 15.531(2) A; b = 18.007(2) A; c = 10.725(2) A; V = 2,999.4(8) A3 and D calc = 1.533 g/cm3 for Z = 4. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined to an R-value of 0.0401. Structure analysis show that it is a di-μ-oxo-bistripyrazolylborato dioxo vanadium (V) complex with lattice of diacetonitrile. In addition, the electronic structure and the bonding characters of the complex were analyzed with ab initio calculations.

Four transition metal (Cu(II), Zn(II) and Ni(II)) complexes with a Schiff-base ligand (salicylideneglycine) have been synthesized. All complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and UV-vis spectroscopy. Single-crystal analyses were performed with (C9H7NO3)Cu(C3H4N2) (1), (C9H7NO3)Zn(C3H4N2)2 (2), (C9H7NO3)2Ni2(C3H4N2)4 (3) and (C9H7NO3)Ni(C3H4N2)2(C4H5N2O) · CH3OH · 0.5H2O (4) and fluorescence spectra and thermogravimetric analyses were also carried out. Structural analyses show that 1, 2 and 4 have similar coordinated modes with the tridentate amino-Schiff-base ligand, but differ from the binuclear nickel complex 3. The tridentate amino-Schiff-base ligand contains aliphatic nitrogen, phenoxy, and carboxylic oxygen as three donor atoms. In addition, inter- and intra-molecular hydrogen bonds are also discussed.

A series of Cu(II) complexes Cu(2)[micro-pz](2)[HB(pz)(3)](2) (1), Cu[H(2)B(pz)(2)](2) (2), Cu[HB(pz)(3)](2) (3), Cu[HB(pz(Me2))(3)](2) (4), Cu[B(pz)(4)](2) (5) (pz=pyrazole), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis and theoretical analysis. The IR spectra give the Cu-N vibration modes at 322, 366, 344, 387, and 380 cm(-1) in complexes 1-5, respectively. The UV spectra show all the complexes have same UV absorption at 232 nm; there is another band at 332 nm for complexes 1, 2 and 4, while for complexes 3 and 5, the bands are at 272 and 308 nm, respectively. Complex 1 has a binuclear structure in which two pyrazole ligands bridge two Cu-Tp units. In 2-5, the Cu(II) centers are coordinated with dihydrobis(pyrazolyl)borate (Bp), hydrotris(pyrazolyl)borate (Tp), hydrotris(3,5-Me2pyrazolyl)borate (Tp'), tetrakis(pyrazolyl)borate (Tkp) respectively to form a mononuclear structure. The results of thermal analysis for complexes 1-5 are discussed too.

A hydrothermal reaction of a mixture of Eu2O3, V2O5, 4,4′‐bpy, phen, HCl and ethylenediamine in methanol solution resulted in the unexpected complex, [V6O12(phen)4(CH3O)4] · 4H2O, which was then characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. This complex crystallizes in the triclinic system with the space group P‐1 and cell parameters a=9.778(4) A, b=11.620(5) A, c=13.271(5) A, α=73.433(8)°, β=77.068 (8)°, γ=87.509(8)°, and Z=2 with R1=0.0726. Interestingly, a cyclic water tetramer is located in the packing diagrams of the title complex. The four water molecules linked by hydrogen bonds generate a two‐dimensional (2D) box structure, resulting in the formation of a square‐prism like water tetramer, which has not been experimentally observed and theoretically predicted so far.

To understand the development of the refractive status in premature infants during their early life.It was a cross-sectional study. Two hundred fifty-three premature infants without retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) were screened for ROP at 4-6 weeks after born. Refraction with cycloplegic retinoscopy was determined. The refractions of 38 infants were compared with those of mature infants at 40-44 weeks' correct gestational age (CGA).The spherical equivalent (SE) increased progressively (become more hypermetropic) along with increasing gestational age (GA), birth weight (BW) and CGA at test. BW was the main factor for SE. The incidence of myopia and astigmatism was 14.43% (73 eyes) and 10.28% (52 eyes). The former decreased and the latter did not change along with increasing CGA. The median of astigmatism was 1.00DC, while Percentile 25 (P25) and Percentile 75 (P75) were 0.50DC and 1.13DC, respectively. The degree of astigmatism increased along with increasing CGA and did not change along with GA or BW. The median of axis of astigmatism (AX) was 90 degrees, while P25 and P75 were 90 degrees and 100 degrees, respectively. The AX was not correlated with CGA, GA or BW. Five observations, including SE, incidence of myopia and astigmatism, the degree and axis of astigmatism between premature and mature infants at 40 to 44 weeks' CGA, were compared. It shows that there was no statistical difference between the two groups in all items mentioned above but SE, which indicating that there was more myopic in premature infants.The refraction of premature infants shifts towards hypermetropia along with development, but is still more myopic than mature infants at 40 to 44 weeks' CGA. Further studies on the underlying mechanisms of myopia and the subsequent refractive development are needed.
