In this work, we study the cosmological effects of a tower of warm dark matter states on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and on large-scale structure (LSS). For concreteness, we consider the $N$naturalness model, which is a proposed mechanism to solve the Higgs hierarchy problem. In this framework, the sector of particles of the Standard Model is copied $N$ times where the Higgs mass-squared value is the only parameter that changes between sectors. The other sectors are similar to our own, except their particles are proportionally heavier and cooler compared to the Standard Model sector. Since each sector is extremely weakly coupled to other sectors, direct observations of the new particles are not expected. The addition of new photon-like species and new neutrino-like species, however, can be detected through the CMB and in LSS data. These additional neutrinos form a tower of states with increasing mass and decreasing temperature compared to the SM neutrinos. This tower causes a more gradual suppression of the matter power spectrum across different comoving wavenumbers than a single warm dark matter state would. We quantitatively explore these effects in the $N$naturalness model and compute the parameter space allowed by the Planck 2018, weak lensing, and Lyman-$\alpha$ datasets. Depending on the underlying parameters, Planck 2018 and weak lensing data can require $N$naturalness to be tuned at the $10\%$ level for Dirac neutrinos and at the $5\%$ level for Majorana neutrinos. The additional neutrino states are crucial in constraining the model, particularly through their suppression of the power spectrum at small scales. Atomic dark matter is a simple but highly theoretically motivated possibility for an interacting dark sector that could constitute some or all of dark matter. We perform a comprehensive study of precision cosmological observables on minimal atomic dark matter, exploring for the first time the full parameter space of dark QED coupling and dark electron and proton masses $(\alpha_{D}, m_{e_{D}}, m_{p_{D}})$ as well as the two cosmological parameters of aDM mass fraction $f_{D}$ and temperature ratio $\xi$ at time of SM recombination. We also show how aDM can accommodate the $(H_0, S_8)$ tension from late-time measurements, leading to a better fit than $\Lambda$CDM or $\Lambda$CDM + dark radiation. Furthermore, including late-time measurements leads to closed contours of preferred $\xi$ and dark hydrogen binding energy. The dark proton mass is seemingly unconstrained. We point out that neutrinos can have enhanced couplings to photons, if light (pseudo)scalar mediators are present, resulting in potentially measurable neutrino polarizability. We show that the expected suppression from small neutrino masses can be compensated by the light mediator mass, generating dimension 7 Rayleigh operators at low scales. We explore the rich phenomenology of such models, computing in details the constraints on the viable parameter space, spanned by the couplings of the mediator to neutrinos and photons. Finally, we build several explicit models that lead to enhanced neutrino polarizability by modifying the inverse see-saw majoron, i.e., the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson of the $U(1)_L$ global lepton number responsible for generating small neutrino masses., Comment: 48 pages, 9 figures. v2: Improved star cooling discussion. Theoretical investigations into the evolution of the early universe are an essential part of particle physics that allow us to identify viable extensions to the Standard Model as well as motivated parameter space that can be probed by various experiments and observations. In this white paper, we review particle physics models of the early universe. First, we outline various models that explain two essential ingredients of the early universe (dark matter and baryon asymmetry) and those that seek to address current observational anomalies. We then discuss dynamics of the early universe in models of neutrino masses, axions, and several solutions to the electroweak hierarchy problem. Finally, we review solutions to naturalness problems of the Standard Model that employ cosmological dynamics., Comment: contribution to Snowmass 2021

Rare meson decays are among the most sensitive probes of both heavy and light new physics. Among them, new physics searches using kaons benefit from their small total decay widths and the availability of very large datasets. On the other hand, useful complementary information is provided by hyperon decay measurements. We summarize the relevant phenomenological models and the status of the searches in a comprehensive list of kaon and hyperon decay channels. We identify new search strategies for under-explored signatures, and demonstrate that the improved sensitivities from current and next-generation experiments could lead to a qualitative leap in the exploration of light dark sectors., Comment: 108 pages, 25 figures, 9 tables, matches the published version

The mirror twin Higgs model (MTH) is a solution to the Higgs hierarchy problem that provides well-predicted cosmological signatures with only three extra parameters: the temperature of the twin sector, the abundance of twin baryons, and the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of twin electroweak symmetry breaking. These parameters specify the behavior of twin radiation and the acoustic oscillations of twin baryons, which lead to testable effects on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and large-scale structure (LSS). While collider searches can only probe the twin VEV, through a fit to cosmological data we show that the existing CMB (Planck18 TTTEEE+lowE+lowT+lensing) and LSS (KV450) data already provide useful constraints on the remaining MTH parameters. Additionally, we show that the presence of twin radiation in this model can raise the Hubble constant $H_0$ while the scattering twin baryons can reduce the matter fluctuations $S_8$, which helps to relax the observed $H_0$ and $S_8$ tensions simultaneously. This scenario is different from the typical $\Lambda$CDM + $\Delta N_{\rm eff}$ model, in which extra radiation helps with the Hubble tension but worsens the $S_8$ tension. For instance, when including the SH0ES and Planck SZ data in the fit, we find that a universe with $\gtrsim 20\%$ of the dark matter comprised of twin baryons is preferred over $\Lambda$CDM by $\sim4\sigma$. If the twin sector is indeed responsible for resolving the $H_0$ and $S_8$ tensions, future measurements from the Euclid satellite and CMB Stage 4 experiment will further measure the twin parameters to $O(1-10\%)$-level precision. This paper presents EinsteinPy (version 0.3), a community-developed Python package for gravitational and relativistic astrophysics. Python is a free, easy to use a high-level programming language which has seen a huge expansion in the number of its users and developers in recent years. Specifically, a lot of recent studies show that the use of Python in Astrophysics and general physics has increased exponentially. We aim to provide a very high level of abstraction, an easy to use interface and pleasing user experience. EinsteinPy is developed keeping in mind the state of a theoretical gravitational physicist with little or no background in computer programming and trying to work in the field of numerical relativity or trying to use simulations in their research. Currently, EinsteinPy supports simulation of time-like and null geodesics and calculates trajectories in different background geometries some of which are Schwarzschild, Kerr, and KerrNewmann along with coordinate inter-conversion pipeline. It has a partially developed pipeline for plotting and visualization with dependencies on libraries like Plotly, matplotlib, etc. One of the unique features of EinsteinPy is a sufficiently developed symbolic tensor manipulation utilities which are a great tool in itself for teaching yourself tensor algebra which for many beginner students can be overwhelmingly tricky. EinsteinPy also provides few utility functions for hypersurface embedding of Schwarzschild spacetime which further will be extended to model gravitational lensing simulation., Comment: We plan to submit it to A&A. 9 pages

We find new limits on the $\lambda'_{3jk}$ R-parity violating (RPV) couplings of the minimal supersymmetric standard model, using Drell-Yan differential cross sections at the LHC and electroweak precision measurements from LEP and SLC. Specifically, limits on six out of the nine $\lambda'_{3jk}$-couplings, with $j=1\text{ or }2$, are obtained using Drell-Yan data, with the remaining three (for $j=3$) bounded by precision electroweak data. We also update the limits on all $\lambda'_{ijk}$-couplings using electroweak data and find new bounds on $\lambda'_{132}$ and $\lambda'_{232}$ that are stronger than obtained elsewhere. We find constraints on R-Parity Violating (RPV) couplings of the minimal supersymmetric standard model, using Drell-Yan differential cross sections at the LHC. Specifically, we look at the constraints on $\lambda'LQD^c$ couplings from monolepton and dilepton data published by ATLAS, with either electrons or muons in the final state. Out of the 18 RPV couplings to which the LHC is at least potentially sensitive by this technique, we find new limits on 12 (or 13) of them, for squarks masses above 1 (or 2) TeV. We also show that one can employ our techniques to achieve significantly stronger bounds at a high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC., Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure, 2 tables

There has been persistent disagreement between the Standard Model (SM) prediction and experimental measurements of $R_{D^{(*)}}=\mathcal{B}(\bar B \rightarrow D^{(*)} \tau \bar\nu_\tau)/\mathcal{B}(\bar B \rightarrow D^{(*)} l \bar\nu_l)$ $(l=e,\mu)$. This anomaly may be addressed by introducing interactions beyond the Standard Model involving new states, such as leptoquarks. Since the processes involved are quark flavor changing, any new states would need to couple to at least two different generations of quarks, requiring a non-trivial flavor structure in the quark sector while avoiding stringent constraints from flavor-changing neutral current processes. In this work, we look at scalar leptoquarks as a possible solution for the $R_{D^{(*)}}$ anomaly under the assumption of $\it{minimal~flavor~violation}$ (MFV). We investigate all possible representations for the leptoquarks under the SM quark flavor symmetry group, consistent with asymptotic freedom. We consider constraints on their parameter space from self-consistency of the MFV scenario, perturbativity, the FCNC decay $b\to s\bar\nu\nu$ and precision electroweak observables. We find that none of the scalar leptoquarks can explain the $R_{D^{(*)}}$ anomaly while simultaneously avoiding all constraints within this scenario. Thus scalar leptoquarks with MFV-generated quark couplings do not work as a solution to the $R_{D^{(*)}}$ anomaly., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures

We show that stringent limits on leptoquarks that couple to first-generation quarks and left-handed electrons or muons can be derived from the spectral shape of the charged-current Drell-Yan process ($p p \to \ell^\pm \nu$) at Run 2 of the LHC. We identify and examine all six leptoquark species that can generate such a monolepton signal, including both scalar and vector leptoquarks, and find cases where the leptoquark exchange interferes constructively, destructively or not at all with the Standard Model signal. When combined with the corresponding leptoquark-mediated neutral-current ($p p \to \ell^+ \ell^-$) process, we find the most stringent limits obtained to date, outperforming bounds from pair production and atomic parity violation. We show that, with 3000 fb$^{-1}$ of data, combined measurements of the transverse mass in $p p \to \ell^\pm \nu$ events and invariant mass in $p p \to \ell^+ \ell^-$ events can probe masses between 8 TeV and 18 TeV, depending on the species of leptoquark, for electroweak-sized couplings. In light of such robust sensitivities, we strongly encourage the LHC experiments to interpret Drell-Yan (dilepton and monolepton) events in terms of leptoquarks, alongside usual scenarios like $Z'$ bosons and contact interactions., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures
