Stage at diagnosis is an important metric in treatment and prognosis of cancer, and also in planning and evaluation of cancer control. For the latter purposes, the data source is the population-based cancer registry (PBCR), but, although stage is usually among the variables collected by cancer registries, it is often missing, especially in low-income settings. Essential TNM has been introduced to facilitate abstraction of stage data by cancer registry personnel, but the accuracy with which they can do so is unknown. 51 cancer registrars from 20 countries of sub-Saharan Africa (13 anglophone, 7 francophone) were tasked with abstracting stage at diagnosis, using Essential TNM, from scanned extracts of case. The panel comprised 28 records of each of 8 common cancer types, and the participants chose how many to attempt (between 48 and 128). Stage group (I-IV), derived from the eTNM elements that they assigned to each cancer, was compared with a gold standard, as decided by two expert clinicians. The registrars assigned the correct stage (I-IV) in between 60 and 80% of cases, with the lowest values for ovary, and the highest for oesophagus. The weighted kappa statistic suggested a moderate level of agreement between participant and expert (0.41–0.60) for 5 cancers, and substantial agreement (0.61–0.80) for three, with the best for cervix, large bowel, oesophagus and ovary, and the worst (weighted kappa 0.46) for non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). For all except NHL, early stage (I/II) and late stage (III/IV) was correctly identified in 80% or more of the cases. A single training in staging using Essential TNM resulted in an accuracy that was not much inferior to what has been observed in clinical situations in high income settings. Nevertheless, some lessons were learned on how to improve both the guidelines for staging, and the training course.

Dermatofibrosarcoma is a locally malignant tumor. This gives surgery a place of choice. The advent of imatinib has improved outcomes. Our aim is to describe the indications, techniques and results of surgery.A retrospective, multicenter, descriptive study conducted in four West African surgical oncology units. It covers dermatofibrosarcoma surgery performed between January 1, 1988 and December 31, 2020. We took into account the surgical procedure, the mode of skin coverage, adjuvant treatments and survival. Comparisons were possible using Student's t-test and Pearson's χWe recorded 81 cases of dermatofibrosarcoma. Surgery was effective in 90.1% of cases. Wide resection was the principle with a mean resection margin of 3.8 ± 1.9 cm. healing by primary intention, flaps and healing by secondary intention were the methods of skin coverage in 30.1%, 24.7% and 41.1% respectively. The type of skin coverage was related to the topography and size of the tumor (p 0.0001). The healing time is associated with the type of skin cover. The recurrence rate was not related to the type of skin coverage (p = 0.8).Wide and deep resection in the absence of Mohs micrographic surgery ensures healthy margins. Oncoplasty reduces the healing time without increasing the risk of recurrence.

BACKGROUND In a country where radiotherapy (RT) is not available, advocacy based on the relevance of surgery + adjuvant RT in locoregional control and survival is needed. AIM To evaluate the impact of surgery with RT on local control and survival compared to surgery alone in breast cancer (BC). METHODS AND RESULTS Between 2007 and 2016, 210 patients with BC were retrospectively reviewed, of which 90 patients underwent surgery with RT (group 1) and 120 patients' surgery (group 2). There were several treatment combinations, including surgery combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy [ACT], RT, and ACT. The results showed 88 (41.9%) cases of relapse, including 31 (34.4%) (group 1) and 57 (47.5%) (group 2) (p = .046). Recurrence occurred after a mean time of 1.5 years in group 1 versus 0.66 years in group 2 (p = .006). The 5-year overall and BC-specific survivals were 49.5% and 62.5%, respectively. PURPOSE To assess the impact of the Ebola virus disease outbreak (EVDO) on cancer management at the surgical oncology unit of Donka National Hospital. METHODS This was a retrospective and comparative analysis of cancer consultation and care data before (2012-2013), during (2014-2015), and after (2016-2017) the EVDO. The number of cancer occurrences, referral mode, origin, main activities (consultations, surgery, chemotherapy), and access of radiotherapy were analyzed. The Mann-Whitney U test with independent samples used was considered as significant if P was ≤ .05. RESULTS From 2012 to 2017, 4,977 patients were admitted, including 2,254 with cancer. The variations observed were a decrease in consultations by 2.3% during the EVDO versus an increase by 46.9% after the outbreak ( P < .001). We found decreases of 0.7% and 12.5% during and increases of 253.8% and 15.4% after the EVDO from level 1 and 2 and from level 3 health facilities, respectively ( P < .001). A total of 251 surgeries were performed, and 1,463 received chemotherapy. There was 5.2% more chemotherapy use during and 33.7% more after the EVDO ( P < .001). The number of surgeries increased by 35.8% and decreased by 40.0% during and after the EVDO, respectively ( P < .001). We evacuated 36 patients for radiotherapy, which reflected a decrease of 42.1% and 45.5% during and after the EVDO ( P < .001). CONCLUSION Cancer management slowed down during the EVDO. This change requires organization of the fight against cancer through the institutionalization and decentralization of its management.

To analyze surgical complications and their impact on the prognosis of operated breast cancer patients. This was a retrospective cohort study of breast cancer patients who underwent radical breast cancer surgery (RBS) or conservative breast cancer surgery (CBS) with axillary lymph node dissection. The oncological surgery unit of Donka National Hospital served as a framework for this study from January 2007 to December 2016. A total of one hundred and thirteen patients, including 111 women and 2 men were operated during the study period. The cancer was stage III in 92 (81.1%) cases. RBS was performed in 103 (91.1%) patients and CBS in 10 (8.9%) patients. Of the patients, 92.5% had neoadjuvant chemotherapy, 68.5% had adjuvant chemotherapy, 33.6% had adjuvant radiotherapy and 39.8% hormone therapy. Surgery was complicated by intraoperative hemorrhage in 2 (2.1%) cases. Early postoperative complications included pain 47 (50%), seroma 14 (14.9%), delayed healing 13 (13.8%), hematoma 9 (9.6%), infection 2 (2.1%) and embolism 2 (2.1%). Late complications includedrelapse in 59 (52.2%), brachial pain in 23 (20.4%), lymphedema in 19 (16.8%) and shoulder movement limitations in 8 (7.1%). There was 27.1% of relapsesoccurred in patients with lymphedema versus 5.7% in the absence of lymphedema (p=0.002). The overall mortality was 59 (52.2%), including 4 (3.5%) postoperative cases. Operative pain, seroma, lymphedema and recurrence were the most common complications. This study showed that the high risk of death was related to the occurrence of relapse, more commonly seen in patients with lymphoedema.

Aim: The main aim of this study was to evaluate outcomes after surgical treatment of skin cancer. Methods: This retrospective cohort study concerned 46 patients who presented 43 skin cancers lesions surgically treated at surgical oncology unit, Conakry University Hospital. There were 29 (61.7%) squamous cell carcinoma, 12 (25.5%) melanoma, 4 (8.5%) sarcomas and 1 (2.1%) porocarcinoma. Surgical indications and prognosis factors were analyzed. Results: Surgical treatment included simple excision in 2 cases (3.8%), wide excision in 38 cases (71.7%) and amputation/disarticulation in 13 cases (24.5%). Inguinal lymph node dissection was performed in 16 patients (34.3%). Postoperative complications were wound suppuration (5 cases), lower limb lymphedema (4 cases), seroma (2 cases) and skin flap necrosis (1 case). Surgical margins were free in 28 (60.9%) patients, infiltrated in 3 patients (6.5%) and unspecified in 15 patients (32.6%). The median follow-up after surgery was 29 months. During the follow-up, 13 patients (28.3%) had a relapse. The relapse was influenced by surgical margins (p = 0.012) and iterative resection (p = 0.04). Overall survival was 65.2%. Factors related to survival in univariate analysis were: iterative resection (p = 0.008), fungated tumor (p = 0.037), the status of surgical margins (p = 0.002) and the occurrence of relapse (p = 0.0000). In multivariate analysis, the status of surgical margins was the only independent prognostic factor. Conclusion: The prognosis after surgical treatment of cutaneous cancers depends on the resection margins.

Anal adenocarcinoma is very rare and usually occurs in the elderly. We present a case of a 12-year-old girl with an anal margin painful tumor infiltrating the lower rectum, with perineal and vulvar permeation nodules and bilateral fixed inguinal and iliac lymph nodes. Histology showed anal adenocarcinoma with mucosecreting component and independent cells. She had no extra pelvic metastasis on CT scan. She underwent a colostomy and palliative care. This exceptional case challenges us on the diversity of forms of anal cancers that require a multidisciplinary approach. The precarious social context and the age of onset make it difficult to manage this rare cancer.

Breast cancer is a complex disease characterized by the accumulation of multiple molecular alterations giving each tumor phenotype and an own evolutionary potential. This study aimed to describe the distribution of the profile and molecular subtypes of breast cancers followed at Surgical Oncology Unit of Donka National Hospital. This was retrospective and descriptive study on cases of breast cancer in which the hormone receptor status and expression of the Her2 oncogene have been performed from 2007 to 2016. We recorded 58 cases including 56 (96.6%) women and 2 (3.4%) men. The average age was 48.2 ± 10.9. Invasive ductal carcinoma accounted for 50 (86.2%) cases. The SBR grade was II in 31(53.4%) cases, III in 21 (36.2%) cases and I in 6 (10.3%) cases. The tumor was classified as T4 in 36 (62.1%) cases; it was metastatic in 11(19.0%) cases. Estrogen receptors were positive in 29 (50.0%) cases, progesterone receptors positive in 25 (43.1%) cases, the Her2 oncogene was positive in 22 (39.3%) cases. The distribution of molecular sub-types was: 20 (34.5%) luminal A, 15 (25.9%) triple negative, 13 (22.4%) Her2 overexpressed, 8 (13.8%) luminal B and 2 (3.2%) undetermined. This preliminary study showed the poor accessibility of immunohistochemistry for the molecular diagnosis of breast cancer in our country. Luminal A subtypes and triple negatives were more common. The determination of molecular subtypes is a rational basis for hormone therapy and targeted therapy, thus personalizing the treatment of breast cancer.

A 30-year-old HIV positive woman presented with a multifocal mass tumour associated with axillary and lateral-cervical lymphadenopathy in the right breast. Laboratory examination of the biopsy confirmed a case of mammary Burkitt’s lymphoma with a nodular infiltration of the breast. Antiretroviral treatment and chemotherapy were effective to control the tumour. Although Burkitt’s lymphoma rarely involves the breasts, it should be considered during routine breast examination of African woman.

Background: We aim to review different factors associated with the relapse and the mortality in breast cancer patients in restricted-resource settings over a five-year period. Method: A retrospective cohort study including 133 women underwent breast cancer surgery was performed at the Surgical Oncology Unit of the Conakry University Hospital in Guinea. Socio-demographical characteristics, clinical information, treatment and data on relapse and survival were retrieved from medical files. Predictor factors of relapse were analyzed by using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Factors associated with mortality were analyzed by Kaplan Meier survival and Cox models. Results: Breast cancer surgery was conservative in 13 cases (9.8%) and radical in 120 cases (90.2%). Five-year relapse was 33.8% ± 8.0% and the predictor factors of this relapse were age and stage III (p = 0.005). The overall 5-year mortality was 42.1% and the risk factors independently associated with death were body mass index (p = 0.01), origin of patients (p = 0.02), radiotherapy (p = 0.01) and cancer relapse (p = 0.001). Conclusion: The proportions of relapse and death were higher in breast cancer patients. The age and the stage of cancer at the time of surgery were the predictor factors of relapse. Body mass index, origin of patients, radiotherapy and cancer relapse were associated with death.

Objectif L’objectif de cette etude etait d’evaluer les premiers resultats de la chirurgie conservatrice du cancer du sein a l’unite de chirurgie oncologique (UCO) du CHU de Donka, Conakry, Guinee.

Longtemps consideres comme non prioritaires en Afrique subsaharienne, les cancers tendent a devenir un probleme de sante publique sur le continent, a l’instar des pays developpes. Objectif : evaluer, apres six ans de recul, l’epidemiologie et les resultats de la prise en charge des enfants atteints de cancer a l’unite d’oncologie pediatrique du CHU Gabriel-Toure de Bamako (Mali). Methodologie : tous les enfants d’âge inferieur ou egal a 15 ans atteints de cancer et ayant recu une chimiotherapie entre le 1er janvier 2005 et le 31 decembre 2010 ont ete inclus dans l’evaluation. Resultats : 690 enfants ont ete ainsi inclus. L’âge moyen etait de 24 mois (extremes : 6 mois-15 ans). Le delai de consultation etait inferieur a trois mois dans 200 cas (29 %), compris entre trois et dix mois dans 256 cas (37,1 %), et superieur a dix mois dans 234 cas (33,9 %). Les cinq premiers cancers pediatriques etaient, par ordre de frequence decroissante, les lymphomes malins non hodgkiniens : 231 cas (33,5 %), le retinoblastome : 170 cas (24,6 %), le nephroblastome : 102 cas (14,8 %) : les leucemies aigues lymphoblastiques : 54 cas (7 %) et la maladie de Hodgkin : 34 cas (4 %). L’hepatoblastome et les tumeurs germinales malignes etaient les moins representes. Apres six ans d’activite de notre unite, et un suivi moyen de trente-six mois (extremes 3-70), nous avons enregistre 272 deces (39,4 %) ; 238 patients etaient vivants (34,5 %) et 180 etaient perdus de vue (26,1 %). Conclusion : le taux de survie des enfants atteints de cancer au Mali reste encore faible avec un nombre tres eleve de perdus de vue.

Les cancers du col sont des pathologies frequentes dans les pays en developpement. Plus de 60 % des cas sont localement avances, consideres comme non carcinologiquement resecable a cause de l’envahissement frequent des structures pelviennes. Cette etude a pour objectif d’evaluer la resecabilite des cancers localement avances du col uterin apres radiotherapie externe neoadjuvante. L’etude etait retrospective et portait sur 48 cancers du col de stades IIA: 18,8 %, IIB: 58,3 %, III: 16,7 % et IVA: 6,2 % en reponse objective operes apres radiotherapie neoadjuvante de 2000 a 2003. L’âge moyen etait de 48,8 ans et 95,8 % etaient des carcinomes epidermoides. Les parametres etudies etaient l’evaluation chirurgicale, le residu tumoral macroscopique, le degre de sterilisation tumorale et le suivi. Le delai moyen de la chirurgie etait de 13,2 semaines. Nous avons realise dans 75 % des cas une colpohysterectomie radicale de type III de Piver, 12,5 % de type I et 8,3 % de type II. Le curage ganglionnaire iliaque etait pratique dans 26 cas. Les complications etaient: quinze cas d’hemorragies peroperatoires, deux cas de plaies ureterovesicales, deux cas de fistules urinaires et un cas de cystite radique. Deux patientes etaient decedees d’embolie pulmonaire. Un residu tumoral macroscopique etait note dans 29,2 %. L’evaluation histologique portee sur 30 cas avait montre 60%de sterilisation complete et 40%de sterilisation partielle. Le recul moyen etait de 40 mois. Le taux de controle locoregional etait de 60,4 %. A 36 mois, la survie globale etait de 55 %, la survie sans residu de 68 % vs 20 % et la survie sans recidive de 92 % vs 10 %. Tres peu de malades presentant les cancers localement avances du col sont traites. Nos resultats sont a valider par des etudes cas temoins entre patientes traitees par radiotherapie exclusive et patientes traitees par radiotherapie suivie de chirurgie.

Approximately 20 000 new cases of Hodgkin lymphoma are diagnosed each year in North America and Europe. However in Africa, the incidence of this condition is almost unknown. While publications from western countries and the rest of world are numerous in the literature, few data from Africa about this malignancy are available. The aim of this retro and prospective, unicentric study over 3 years is to describe the epidemiologic, pathologic, clinical and therapeutic aspects of children treated for Hodgkin lymphoma in our paediatric oncology unit of Gabriel-Toure Hospital, Bamako (Mali). From January 2005 to December 2007, all children under 18 years of age, with histologically proven Hodgkin lymphoma, not previously treated by chemotherapy and HIV negative, were included in this study. Informed consent was obtained from parents. The treatment protocol was the GFAOP (Groupe franco-africain d’oncologie pediatrique) Hodgkin lymphoma treatment protocol: COPP/ABV (Cyclophosphamid, Vincristin, Prednisone, Procarbazin, Adriamycine, bleomycin and vinblastine). During the study period, 217 cancer cases were diagnosed in our centre. Of these cases, 7 were Hodgkin Lymphoma (0.04%). The average age was 11.7 years. The sex-ratio was 6/1 in favor of boys. 6.71% (5/7) of the patients were stage IIB and 28.6 % (2/7) of the patients were stage IIIB of the Ann-Arbor classification. Histologically, there were 42.8% cases of sclero-nodular subtype, 28.6% of lymphocyte-rich subtype, 14.3 % of mixed cellularity and 14.3% of lymphocyte depleted subtype. After 4 years follow-up, 5 patients (71.4 %) were alive, and 2 patients (28.6 %) had died from drug toxicity. Hodgkin lymphoma is a relatively rare condition in African children which can be cured. Broader multicentric studies are needed for more accurate data on this malignancy.

Objectifs : Les auteurs se proposent de determiner la frequence des cancers gynecologiques et mammaires, d’etudier les facteurs de risque et les aspects diagnostiques a l’Institut Curie de Dakar. Patientes et methode : Il s’agissait d’une etude retrospective des cancers colliges en 2001. Les parametres epidemiologiques et cliniques avaient fait l’objet d’analyses a partir des dossiers des malades. Resultats : Cette etude a permis de ressortir 507 cancers gynecologiques et mammaires chez la femme sur 786 de l’ensemble des cancers recus a l’Institut durant la meme periode. Par ordre de frequence, les cancers du col uterin representaient 240 cas (47,3 %), suivis du sein : 213 cas (42 %), de l’ovaire : 35 cas (6,9 %), de l’uterus : 10 cas (2 %) et de la vulve : 7 cas (1,4 %). L’âge moyen etait de 49,5 ans. Il existait une difference statistiquement significative entre les localisations tumorales primitives et l’âge aux menarches, l’âge aux premiers rapports sexuels et le nombre de partenaires sexuels (p < 0,05). 61,5 % de nos patientes provenaient de la region de Dakar. Le delai moyen de consultation etait de 8,2 mois ; 96 % des malades avaient des signes cliniques au diagnostic. Le taux de confirmation anatomopathologique etait de 73 %. Une evolution locoregionale etait notee dans 60 % des cas. Conclusion : Les cancers gynecologiques et mammaires chez la femme sont frequents et presentent les caracteristiques des cancers des pays en developpement. Des efforts restent a faire dans l’etude des facteurs de risque et le depistage afin d’ameliorer leur connaissance et leur pronostic. La mise sur le marche d’un vaccin anti-HPV 16-18 (anti-papillomavirus) dans les pays developpes est actuellement economiquement difficile a envisager dans les pays en developpement.

L'objectif était de déterminer la prévalence de l'infection à VIH chez les patientes atteintes de cancer du sein et de comparer les caractéristiques anatomocliques et thérapeutiques de ces cancers du sein par rapports aux patientes non infectées par le VIH. Il s'agissait d'une étude rétrospective et analytique comparant les dossiers de patientes atteintes de cancers du sein histologiquement confirmés, infectées ou non par le VIH à l'unité de chirurgie oncologique de Donka, CHU de Conakry, de 2007 à 2012. Nous avons colligé 278 patientes présentant un cancer du sein dont 14 (5,0%) infectées par le VIH et 264 (95,0%) non infectées par le VIH. Les différences observées entre ces deux groupes de patientes étaient respectivement: âge médian (36,8 vs 49,0 ans), la ménopause (21,4% vs 53,4%), le nombre des patientes traitées (50,0% contre 77,1%) et la survenue de décès (78,6% vs 50,8%). Aucune différence n'a été notée dans la présentation clinique, histologique et le retard de consultation. Dans notre étude, la prévalence de l'infection à VIH chez les patients atteints de cancer du sein est élevée. L’âge jeune des patients, la faible accessibilité au traitement et la mortalité élevée doivent être confirmés par une étude sur un échantillon plus large.

Bilateral gigantomastia is a rare condition, often associated with pregnancy that is characterized by a diffuse enlargement of both breasts. Here we present a case of a late 20s woman in her seven months pregnancy with a bilateral gestational gigantomastia associated with multiple breast lumps. Histological analysis revealed a fibroadenoma. Her prolactin level after caesarean delivery was found particularly high. A significant decrease in breast size was achieved with bromocriptine treatment in conjunction with a bilateral lumpectomy. This case report highlights the diversity of gigantomastia and emphasizes the importance of a tailored, multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of this condition.

Aim. To determine the prevalence of HIV infection among patients seen at the surgical oncology unit of Donka (Conakry, Guinea).Method. We conducted a retrospective and descriptive study of HIV infection in cancer patients from May 2007 to December 2012. Social characteristics (age, gender, marital status, and education) and immune status (HIV type, CD4 count) were reviewed.Results. Out of 2598 cancer patients, 54 (2.1%) tested positive for HIV. There were 11 (20.4%) defining AIDS and 43 (79.6%) nondefining AIDS cancers. The most frequent cancers were breast (14) (26.0%), non-Hodgkin lymphoma (6) (11.1%), liver (6) (11.1%), eye and annexes (6) (11.1%), and cervical cancer (5) (9.3%). These patients were female in 34 (63.0%) and had a median age of 39 years and body mass index was 20,3 Kg/m2. They were unschooled in 40 (74.1%) and married in 35 (64.8%). CD4 count showed a median of 317 cells/mL. Antiretroviral treatment was performed in 40 (74.1%).Conclusion. HIV prevalence is higher in patients in our unit of surgical oncology. Breast cancer was the most common in this association. A national survey of a large sample is needed to determine the true prevalence and impact of HIV on cancer prognosis.

Malgre la frequence elevee du carcinome hepatocellulaire (CHC) dans nos regions, le CHC pedicule reste tres rare. Nous presentons une observation d’un CHC pedicule decouvert chez un patient de 79 ans. L’examen clinique montrait une masse de la fosse iliaque droite de 12 cm occupant le flanc droit et la region periombilicale. L’echographie et l’examen tomodensitometrique evoquaient une tumeur cœcale. La laparatomie exploratrice revelait une tumeur pediculee du lobe droit du foie dont la resection complete a ete faite. Le CHC pedicule est plus favorable a une resection curative que le CHC conventionnel, et son pronostic est meilleur apres une resection complete et en l’absence d’invasion vasculaire.

Objectifs : Le but de cette etude etait de determiner les aspects epidemiologiques, les formes anatomocliniques et d’evaluer la prise en charge therapeutique des patientes presentant un carcinome epidermoide du col uterin. Materiel et methodes : Il s’agit d’une etude retrospective de 616 dossiers de cas de cancer du col uterin admis entre 1977 et 1999. Toutes les patientes presentaient un carcinome epidermoide du col uterin ; les autres formes anatomopathologiques ont ete exclues de cette etude. Une etude descriptive des parametres sociodemographiques, anatomocliniques, therapeutiques et une etude analytique des facteurs de recidive ont ete faites (p < 0,05). La survie a 5 ans a ete appreciee par la methode actuarielle. Resultats : L’âge moyen des malades etait de 35 ans mais 86 % d’entre elles avaient plus de 35 ans. La parite moyenne etait de 8 et 44,8 % etaient menopausees. Quatre cent dix-neuf patientes presentaient des stades avances (IIb, III et IV de la FIGO) et des tumeurs histologiquement differenciees dans 20,1 % des cas. Une colpohysterectomie elargie a ete realisee chez 252 malades. Une radiotherapie externe neoadjuvante fut faite dans 152 cas et adjuvante dans 69 cas. Les complications postoperatoires ont ete a type de fistules urinaires, lymphoceles et de phlebites. Des recidives tumorales avaient ete observees dans 133 cas, liees de facon significative au stade et au delai de la radiotherapie. La survie a 5 ans etait inferieure a 1 %. Conclusion : L’acquisition d’une unite de curietherapie devrait permettre une meilleure prise en charge therapeutique de ces cancers avances du col uterin. Leur prevention passe par la mise en place de structures de diagnostic precoce et de depistage de masse, en attendant l’eventuelle distribution d’un vaccin anti-HPV 16-18 recemment mis sur le marche, mais dont l’acces economique reste problematique dans nos regions.

Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in men is very rare; we reported 1 case of mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in the pancreatic disease institute of Wuhan union hospital in China. The aim of the study was to focus our attention on the gender of this patient. The mucinous cystadenocarcinoma is a pathology frequently seen among women. The clinical presentation of this patient is a characteristic which deserves to be described.

Introduction. The aim of this retrospective, unicentric study over 5 years is to describe the epidemiologic, pathologic, clinic and therapeutic aspects of children treated for Hodgkin lymphoma in our paediatric oncology unit.Patients and Methods. From January 2005 to December 2009, all children under 18 years of age, with Hodgkin lymphoma were included in this study. The treatment protocol was the GFAOP (Groupe Franco—Africain d'Oncologie Pédiatrique) Hodgkin lymphoma treatment protocol.Results. During the study period, 217 cancer cases were diagnosed in our centre. Of these cases, 7 were Hodgkin Lymphoma (LH) (0.04%). The mean age was 11.7 years. The sex-ratio was 6/1. 4% (5/7) of patients were stage IIB and 28.6% (2/7) stage IIIB of Ann-Arbor classification. There were 3 cases (42.8%) of sclero-nodular subtype, 2 cases (28.6%) of lymphocyte-rich classical HL subtype, 1 case (14.3%) of mixed cellularity and 1 case (14.3%) of lymphocyte depleted subtype. With a median followup of 37 months, 5 patients (71.4%) are alive, and 2 patients (28.6%) died.Conclusion. Broader multicentric studies are needed for more accurate data on this malignancy.

Primary lymphoma of the thyroid is an uncommon disease. It diagnosis is difficult without immunohistochemestry. We report a case of thyroid lymphoma diagnosed at the A. Le Dantec Hospital of Dakar. A 22-year old young man presented anterior neck mass. Clinical examination showed a thyroid mass with a susclavicular palpable lymph node. The scintigraphy demonstrated that the mass was cold. Total thyroidectomy with cervical lymphadenectomy was the first treatment. Histological examination of the surgical specimen concluded that the mass was an anaplastic lymphoma (large cells type) involving the sus clavicular lymph nodes (stage IIE). Chemotherapy was administrated after one month with C-MOPP schedule. The patient presented no recurrent sign after 30 month. Fine needle aspiration and immunocytochemestry of the thyroid cold masses will contribute in an accurate diagnosis and the management of disease in our institution.
