Dyschromatosis universalis hereditaria (DUH) is a rare pigmentary disorder characterized by the presence of mottled hyperpigmented and hypopigmented macules over the trunk, extremities, and face. We have presented a case series comprised of six members of a family who had numerous hyperpigmented and hypopigmented macules distributed all over the body. Histological findings were suggestive of dyschromatosis universalis hereditaria.

Syringocystadenoma papilliferum is a rare benign adnexal tumor commonly located on the head and neck region and is usually associated with a nevus sebaceous. Linear lesions are uncommon and lesions on the breast are extremely rare. We report here a case of linear SCAP occurring de novo on the left breast of a 35-year-old healthy woman. Histopathology showed the characteristic papillary projections lined by double layer of cells inside epidermal invaginations.

Trichoepitheliomas are epidermal appendageal hamartomas, which usually present as solitary lesions; rarely multiple lesions may be present, mainly involving the centrofacial skin symmetrically. We report herein an adolescent male patient with multiple trichoepitheliomas, linearly arranged and dermatomal, present since birth, along the left side of the neck.

Rationale: Hospital readmission within 30 days poses challenges for healthcare providers, policymakers, and patients because of its impact on care quality, costs, and outcomes. Patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) are particularly affected by readmission, which is associated with increased morbidity and mortality and reduced quality of life. Because small sample sizes have hindered previous studies, this study seeks to address this gap in knowledge by examining a large-scale dataset. Objective: To determine the rate and probability of 30-day all-cause readmission and secondary outcomes in patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) or ILD admitted to the hospital. Methods: This study is a nested cohort study that used the PearlDiver patient records database. Adult patients (age ⩾18 yr) who were admitted to hospitals in 28 states in the United States with COVID-19 or ILD diagnoses were included. We defined and analyzed two separate cohorts in this study. The first cohort consisted of patients with COVID-19 and was later divided into two groups with or without a history of ILD. The second cohort consisted of patients with ILD and was later divided into groups with COVID-19 or with a non–COVID-19 pneumonia diagnosis at admission. We also studied two other subcohorts of patients with and without idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis within the second cohort. Propensity score matching was employed to match confounders between groups. The Kaplan-Meier log rank test was applied to compare the probabilities of outcomes. Results: We assessed the data of 2,286,775 patients with COVID-19 and 118,892 patients with ILD. We found that patients with COVID-19 with preexisting ILD had an odds ratio of 1.6 for 30-day all-cause readmission. Similarly, an odds ratio of 2.42 in readmission rates was observed among hospitalized individuals with ILD who contracted COVID-19 compared with those who were hospitalized for non–COVID-19 pneumonia. Our study also found a significantly higher probability of intensive care admission among patients in both cohorts. Conclusions: Patients with ILD face heightened rates of hospital readmissions, particularly when ILD is combined with COVID-19, resulting in adverse outcomes such as decreased quality of life and increased healthcare expenses. It is imperative to prioritize preventive measures against COVID-19 and establish effective postdischarge care strategies for patients with ILD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Palmoplantar psoriasis (PPP) is a variety of psoriasis constituting 3-4% of psoriatic and mainly affects the skin of the palms and soles. It is often a disfiguring disease and exerts a considerable negative intact on the quality of life (QoL) of the involved. Only few studies have evaluated QoL in PPP especially in eastern India. Objective We aimed to study the demographic profile of patients with PPP, clinical characteristics and quantify the impact of the disease on the QoL of patients. Methods Eligible patients were evaluated with history, clinical examination and quality of life assessment by two separate instruments, namely QoL assessment introduced by Farley et al. and Dermatology Life Quality Index by Finley. The findings of each patient were noted on separate case record sheets. Results One hundred patients were studied. Age of the patients ranged from14-65 years Most patients (51%) had psoriatic involvement of other body areas in addition to palms and soles. 5% patients had family history of psoriasis. Our study supports the impression that even with limited body surface involvement; patients with PPP suffer from a significant impact as measured on both instruments. There was significant correlation between the measures of quality of life between the two instruments and inverse correlation with involved surface area of body involvement. Conclusion Palmoplantar psoriasis (PPP) affects both genders almost equally, affecting our population almost a decade earlier than our western counterparts. Objective This study aimed to find out the association of metabolic syndrome, risk factors, individual components of metabolic syndrome and the other related parameters in patients with psoriasis and compare it with non-psoriatic patients. Methods Institution based case control study including 101 patients of psoriasis and 90 controls. Data analysis statistically done by using t-test/ANOVA test or chi square/Fischer's test. Results In this study, we found strong correlation between types of psoriasis (plaque type 76.47% followed by erythrodermic type 14.71% of psoriatic patients with metabolic syndrome) and metabolic syndrome while no such association found with severity of psoriasis (PASI score), different demographic parameters with metabolic syndrome in both the groups. At the same time smoking and alcohol consumption were found to be significant risk factors for developing metabolic syndrome. Conclusion In our study, there is a significantly higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome in patients with psoriasis comparing to non psoriatic population while it failed to show any significant association between psoriasis and dyslipidemia. Kindler′s syndrome is a very rare genodermatosis characterized by acral blistering starting in infancy, photosensitivity, progressive poikiloderma, cutaneous atrophy, and various forms of mucosal involvement. A large number of other cutaneous and extracutaneous features have also been described. We report here three cases of Kindler′s syndrome from eastern India for the rarity of the syndrome and to emphasize the importance of considering this condition in the differential diagnosis of disorders that can cause blistering, cutaneous atrophy, and/or poikilodermatous skin changes.

Chikungunya fever (CF) is an arboviral acute febrile illness transmitted by the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes. After a quiescence of more than three decades, CF has recently re-emerged as a major public health problem of global scale. CF is characterized by an acute onset of high fever associated with a severe disabling arthritis often accompanied by prominent mucocutaneous manifestations. The disease is usually self-limiting, but the joint symptoms and some of the cutaneous features may persist after the defervescence. A wide range of mucocutaneous changes has been described to occur in association with CF during the current epidemic. Besides a morbilliform erythema, hyperpigmentation, xerosis, excoriated papules, aphthous-like ulcers, vesiculobullous and lichenoid eruptions, and exacerbation of pre-existing or quiescent dermatoses had been observed frequently. These unusual features may help in the clinical differential diagnosis of acute viral exanthems mimicking CF.

Melasma is a common hypermelanotic disorder affecting the face that is associated with considerable psychological impacts. The management of melasma is challenging and requires a long-term treatment plan. In addition to avoidance of aggravating factors like oral pills and ultraviolet exposure, topical therapy has remained the mainstay of treatment. Multiple options for topical treatment are available, of which hydroquinone (HQ) is the most commonly prescribed agent. Besides HQ, other topical agents for which varying degrees of evidence for clinical efficacy exist include azelaic acid, kojic acid, retinoids, topical steroids, glycolic acid, mequinol, and arbutin. Topical medications modify various stages of melanogenesis, the most common mode of action being inhibition of the enzyme, tyrosinase. Combination therapy is the preferred mode of treatment for the synergism and reduction of untoward effects. The most popular combination consists of HQ, a topical steroid, and retinoic acid. Prolonged HQ usage may lead to untoward effects like depigmentation and exogenous ochronosis. The search for safer alternatives has given rise to the development of many newer agents, several of them from natural sources. Well-designed controlled clinical trials are needed to clarify their role in the routine management of melasma.
