We present the case of a 13-year-old girl with a recurrent urinary tract infection, malodorous vaginal discharge, and urinary incontinence caused by a retained vaginal foreign body. The foreign body, an aerosol cap retained for over 2 years, resulted in the formation of a ureterovaginal fistula, an extremely rare complication. The critical value of ultrasound and magnetic resonance urography in delineating the foreign body, the fistulous tract, and the intraperitoneal urine leak is described. Through this unique diagnostic dilemma, we wish to highlight that the evaluation of persistent unusual urinary symptoms and vaginal discharge in a young girl must include a thorough pelvic examination and focused imaging to look for retained vaginal foreign bodies.

Liken planus, yaygın olarak agız içi boğluğu mukozunun kapsandığı kronik sistemik bir hastalıktır. Bayanlarda daha yaygındır ve sıklıkla orta yaşlı hastalarda rapor edilmiştir. Bu hastalığın, sitotoksik T hücrelerinin aktive ettiği, antijene spesifik bir mekanizma ve hücre degradasyonu ve matriks metalloproteinaz aktivasyonu gibi spesifik olmayan mekanizmalar tarafından aracılık edildiği görülür. Görüldüğü bölge ve lezyonların morfolojine dayalı olarak farklı varyantları vardır. Oral liken planusa klinik ve histolojik olarak benzeyen farklı lezyonlar olsa da klinik belirtileri ve semptomlar sayesinde iyi tanımlanabilir. Semptomları, yoktan, ılımlı rahatsızlığa, şiddetli yanma hissine kadar sıralanabilir. Tedavi uygulaması semptomları ve rahatsızlığı temelde çözer. Potansiyel olarak kötü huylu bir hastalık olduğu düşünüldüğü için, erken teşhis, zaman yönetimi ve düzenli hasta takibi çok önemlidir. bu makalenin amacı, retiküler liken planus vakasını rapor etmek ve uygun yönetimi vurgulamaktır

Density, viscosity, surface tension and molar volume of propylene glycol + water mixtures at 293, 298, 303, 308, 313, 318, and 323 K are reported, compared with the available literature data and the Jouyban–Acree model was used for mathematical correlation of the data. The mean relative deviation (MRD) was used as an error criterion and the MRD values for data correlation of density, viscosity, surface tension and molar volume at different investigated temperatures are 0.1 ± 0.1%, 7.6 ± 6.4%, 3.4 ± 3.7%, and 0.4 ± 0.4%, respectively. The corresponding MRDs for the predicted properties after training the model using the experimental data at 298 K are 0.1 ± 0.2%, 12.8 ± 9.3%, 4.7 ± 4.1% and 0.6 ± 0.5%, respectively for density, viscosity, surface tension, and molar volume data.

Background and purpose: Juvenile mandibular chronic osteomyelitis is a rare entity that predominantly affects children and adolescents, but little is known about the factors that contribute to the recurrent course and eventual resolution of this disease. Here, we describe new findings of soft tissue and mandibular nerve canal involvement. Materials and methods: Four patients with mandibular diffuse sclerosing osteomyelitis are presented; all were followed with CT, a few also with MRI and bone scan. We recorded imaging findings of lesion location, pattern of bone formation, presence and evolution of lytic lesions, mandibular nerve, and soft tissue involvement. Results: In all patients we found enlargement of the mandibular nerve canal and soft tissue changes on CT and MRI (when available). All patients had ground glass bone patterns in conjunction with lamellated/onion skin new periosteal bone formation on CT, and all patients with follow-up CT had change in lytic lesion locations. Conclusion: Mandibular nerve canal enlargement, soft tissue abnormalities, and change in location of lytic lesions may represent a diagnostic pattern in mandibular diffuse sclerosing osteomyelitis (Garré) that was not previously entirely recognized as such. In recent years, there has been a growing interest to quantify the energy landscape that governs ribosome dynamics. However, in order to quantitatively integrate theoretical predictions and experimental measurements, it is essential that one has a detailed understanding of the associated diffusive properties. Here, all-atom explicit-solvent simulations (50 μs of aggregate sampling) predict that the diffusion coefficient of a tRNA molecule will depend on its position within the ribosome. Specifically, during aa-tRNA accommodation (i.e., the process by which tRNA enters the ribosome), the apparent diffusion coefficient decreases by approximately an order of magnitude. By comparing these to values obtained with an energetically "smooth" model, we show that the observed nonuniform behavior likely arises from electrostatic and solvation interactions between the tRNA and ribosome. These calculations also reveal the hierarchical character of ribosomal energetics, where steric interactions induce a large-scale free-energy barrier, and short-scale roughness determines the rate of diffusive movement across the landscape.

Over the last 20 years, the application of structure-based (Gō-like) models has ranged from protein folding with coarse-grained models to all-atom representations of large-scale molecular assemblies. While there are many variants that may be employed, the common feature of these models is that some (or all) of the stabilizing energetic interactions are defined based on the knowledge of a particular experimentally obtained conformation. With the generality of this approach, there was a need for a versatile computational platform for designing and implementing this class of models. To this end, the SMOG 2 software package provides an easy-to-use interface, where the user has full control of the model parameters. This software allows the user to edit XML-formatted files in order to provide definitions of new structure-based models. SMOG 2 reads these "template" files and maps the interactions onto specific structures, which are provided in PDB format. The force field files produced by SMOG 2 may then be used to perform simulations with a variety of popular molecular dynamics suites. In this chapter, we describe some of the key features of the SMOG 2 package, while providing examples and strategies for applying these techniques to complex (often large-scale) molecular assemblies, such as the ribosome.
