The effect of three commercial botanical insecticides on the mortality by residues and ingestion of Tamarixia radiata was evaluated. Biodie and NeemPHC had 12.7 and 12.3 % residue mortality effect and 33.3 and 28.7 % mortality by ingestion, respectively. Mortality also increased significantly as time went by, although only with regard to ingestion, and up to 48 and 72 h, for both Biodie and NeemPHC. CinnAcar did not have a major toxic effect when ingested and none of the botanical insecticides had significant effects on the appearance of adults. The three products under evaluation do not interfere with biological control., Se evaluó el efecto de tres insecticidas botánicos comerciales sobre la mortalidad por residualidad e ingestión en Tamarixia radiata. Se observó que el Biodie y NeeemPHC produjeron mortalidad del 12.7 y 12.3 %, por efecto de residual, respectivamente; y del 33.3 y 28.7 % mortalidad por ingestión. El tiempo también incrementó de forma significativa la mortalidad, aunque sólo por ingestión y hasta las 48 y 72 h con Biodie, y el mismo período por el NeeemPHC. El CinnAcar fue poco tóxico por ingestión y ninguno de los insecticidas botánicos tuvieron efectos significativos en la emergencia de adultos. Los tres productos evaluados no interfieren en el control biológico.

Germination is a fundamental process in natural regeneration of tropical forest. In dry forest, germination is affected by the pronounced seasonality, which causes a high heterogeneity in understory light availability, as well as the biological interactions with soil microorganism, i.e. micorrhizae. The germination of three tree species of dry Tecoma stans (L.) Juss. ex Kunth, Senna racemosa (Mill.) H.S. Irwin y Barneby, y Bauhinia forficata Link. subsp. Pruinosa (Vogel) Fortunato & Wunderlin was studied. Under a factorial design with three soil treatments: control (forest soil + nutriments), micorrhizae (Glomus intrarradices) and chemical control (Triple 17: Nitrogen + Phophorous + Potassium); and four light treatments (10%, 30%, 50% and 70%), the germination process was evaluated taken nine response variables. Both factors affected germination responses in an independent form. Interactive effects were only found in mean germination rate of T. stans, and uncertainty of the germination synchrony of B. forficata. Low and intermediate light levels availability increased the mean germination rate and germination value of T. stans. In addition, percentages of germination of S. racemosa were higher in intermediate and high light levels. In B. forficata we found no effects produced by light availability on germination process. The addition of micorrhizae produced positive effects on mean germination rate of T. stans, and highest percentages of germination in S. racemosa and B. forficata, although assynchronically. Adequate light availability and addition of micorrhizae to the substrate would cause benefits to germination in situ of important tree species used in restoration tropical dry forest programs, although with certain restriction., Resumen La germinación es un proceso fundamental en la regeneración natural de las selvas tropicales. En las selvas secas la germinación es afectada por la pronunciada estacionalidad que causa una alta heterogeneidad de la cantidad de luz que llega al suelo y la interacción con las micorrizas. La germinación se estudió en tres especies características de selvas secas: Tecoma stans (L.) Juss. ex Kunth, Senna racemosa (Mill.) H.S. Irwin y Barneby, y Bauhinia forficata Link. subsp. Pruinosa (Vogel) Fortunato & Wunderlin. El proceso germinativo fue evaluado en un diseño factorial con tres tratamientos de germinación: testigo (suelo de la selva de origen + nutrimentos), micorriza (Glomus intrarradices) y testigo químico (Triple 17: Nitrógeno + Fósforo + Potasio); y cuatro niveles de luz (10%, 30%, 50% y 70%); se evaluó el proceso germinativo con nueve variables. Ambos factores influyeron de manera independiente en la respuesta de germinación y solo se encontraron efectos de interacción en la tasa promedio de germinación de T. stans y en la incertidumbre de la sincronía de la germinación de B. forficata. Los niveles bajos e intermedios de luz aumentaron la tasa promedio de germinación y valor máximo de germinación de T. stans. Además, los porcentajes de germinación de S. racemosa incrementaron en niveles intermedios y altos de luz. En B. forficata no se registró ningún efecto de la disponibilidad de luz sobre el proceso de germinación. La adición de micorriza afectó positivamente la tasa promedio de germinación en T. stans y los porcentajes de germinación en S. racemosa y B. forficata, aunque en estas dos últimas de forma asincrónica. El uso de niveles de luz adecuados y la adición de micorriza beneficiarían la germinación in situ de especies importantes en la regeneración de las selvas secas tropicales, aunque con ciertas restricciones.

Peanut crop (Arachis hypogaea L.) is widely used by farmers for their profitability and improvement of the physical and chemical soil traits has a prolonged seed dormancy, which runs up to six months. In other plant species, seed dormancy has been treated with inducers of germination, such as gibberellic acid (AG3), indoleacetic acid and Naproxen (NPX). Another technical issue in the peanut crop is the slow growth ofthe early stages ofthe plants. This would increase with the use of bacterial strains to growth promoters. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of AG3 and NPX as inducers of germination, and strains of Bacillus spp. as promoting plant growth. Germination and two times two concentrations immersion in AG3 and NPX were used, while three strains of Bacillus spp were used as inoculants to enhance growth (CBTC1, CBCC57 and CBRF12). Germination increased with the treatment of 10 mg mL-1 of AG3; meanwhile, the relative growth rate in height of the plants was significantly increased at 15 days after sowing, when inoculated with the strain of Bacillus spp CBRF12. We also found a significantly larger increase in root dry biomass at 30 days after planting, with the CBTC1 strain. In conclusion, the percentage of germination of A. hypogaeae increased with the addition of AG3. Also, the growth of the plant increased, albeit slightly, and other significantly only in some variables, by inoculating the strains of Bacillus spp. The results of this study show AG3 capacity to break seed dormancy on peanuts; as well as the advantages of using growth promoting bacteria in the increase of height and root biomass of this plant species. This could be helpful in peanut production by reducing latency and accelerate growth., El cultivo de cacahuate (Arachis hypogaea L.), ampliamente utilizado porlos agricultores por su rentabilidad y mejoramiento de las propiedades físicas y químicas edáficas, presenta una prolongada latencia de semillas, que va hasta seis meses. En otras especies vegetales la latencia de semillas se ha tratado con inductores de germinación como el ácido giberélico (AG3), el ácido indolacético y naproxeno (NPX). Otro problema técnico en el cultivo de cacahuate es el crecimiento lento de las primeras etapas de las plantas. Lo anterior podría incrementar con el uso de cepas bacterianas promotoras de crecimiento. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el efecto del AG3 y NPX como inductores de germinación, y cepas de Bacillus spp. como promotoras de crecimiento vegetal. En la germinación se usaron dos concentraciones y dos tiempos de inmersión en AG3 y NPX, mientras que para mejorar crecimiento se usaron tres cepas de Bacillus spp. (CBTC1, CBCC57 y CBRF12) como inoculantes. La germinación incrementó con el tratamiento de 10 mg mL-1 de AG3; en tanto, la tasa relativa de crecimiento en altura de las plantas aumentó significativamente a los 15 días después de la siembra, cuando se inocularon con la cepa CBRF12 de Bacillus spp. Asimismo, se encontró un mayor crecimiento significativo de la biomasa seca de la raíz a los 30 días luego de la siembra, con la cepa CBTC1. En conclusión, el porcentaje de germinación de A. hypogaeae incrementó con la adición de AG3. Por su parte, el crecimiento de la planta aumentó, aunque ligeramente, sí de forma significativa y sólo en algunas variables, por la inoculación de las cepas de Bacillus spp. Los resultados del presente estudio muestran la capacidad del AG para romper la latencia de semillas de cacahuate; así como las ventajas de usar bacterias promotoras de crecimiento, en el incremento de la altura y la biomasa de raíces de esta especie vegetal.
