The study described the respondent’s profile in terms of year level, sex, college, role in student activities, and perceived academic performance and found out if there was a significant difference on the perception on school activities according to profile. Using the quantitative research design, particularly the descriptive- comparative method, the respondents were college students who were identified through Slovin‘s formula and proportional sampling among the colleges. The study utilized a survey questionnaire. Statistical tools used were frequency counts, percentages, means, and analysis of variance. Majority of the student respondents were female, observers during activities, and perceived that their academic performance is good. The most participated co- curricular activities are seminar/workshops/symposiums along the field of specialization while the most participated extra-curricular activities are acquaintance/Christmas parties and mass/spiritual activities. The respondents had a high perception on school activities. There is no difference in the frequency of participation in activities in terms of sex and year level while there is a significant difference in the frequency of participation in terms of the college, the role of the student, and the perceived academic performance. There is no difference in the perception on school activities in terms of sex, year level, and perceived academic performance while there is a significant difference in the perception in terms of college and the role of the student.

It has been a lament of many educators that despite the mandate of the CHED, HEIs have not yet maximally embraced Outcomes-based Assessment (OBA). Educators are still experiencing confusion on the real OBA, hence, the difficulty in shifting from the traditional way of assessment to the real outcomes-based assessment. A descriptive research design was conducted to determine the assessment approaches utilized by UEP faculty members in terms of assessment for learning, assessment of learning, and assessment as learning; found out the perspectives of the respondents on the OBE framework; found out the different assessment tools used by the respondents; and identified the problems/concerns regarding assessment met by the respondents, data of which were used as inputs in the design of a training to enhance faculty members’ assessment practices. The study utilized four-part survey instrument and employed means and percentages to analyze the data. The faculty members “very much practiced” assessment of learning and assessment for learning while they “much practice” assessment as learning. Majority of the respondents had correct perspectives in majority of the items on OBE. However, they had misconceptions on outcomes-based assessment as a norm-referenced kind of testing and that grading is done in every step of the way of the OBE curriculum. On the assessment tools, majority of the faculty members “always” practice the use of teacher-made tests, “often” use some performance based assessment while many alternative assessment format are seldom used. The specific problems encountered by the faculty members were categorized into three: limited facilities and materials, lack of knowledge on OBE and OBA, and, difficulty in the teaching-learning process. Problems met in implementing the Outcomes-based Education framework center on three areas: lack of basic knowledge of OBE and OBA, lack of facilities, and difficulty in the teaching-learning process. Based on the findings of the study, the researchers came up with a training design which will address the concerns of the respondents on assessment in the Outcomes-based Education Framework.

Fractions and learning about them have been consistently difficult for students. This difficulty, grounded on the lack of conceptual knowledge, results in errors in performing operations with fractions. This descriptive study explored the errors in adding dissimilar fractions and misconceptions on modeling fractions among 265 pre-service teachers. The study utilized an open-ended question asking for the procedural computation and the modeling of the addition of two dissimilar fractions as a data-gathering instrument. The findings of the study revealed that the majority of the respondents got the required answer correctly in the question requiring procedural knowledge. In the question requiring the fractions to be modeled, only a few were able to model the fractions correctly. A big percentage of respondents either had no answer to the question or expressed the modeling of fractions in a rule. The study further revealed varied misconceptions on how adding dissimilar fractions are modeled. Recommendations on improving the conceptual knowledge of students as early as elementary grades are promoted.

Worktext plays a vital role in any classroom setting particularly in mathematics. Despite the development of the new technologies that allow high-quality instructional materials, demand for textbooks or worktexts continues to grow. The era of modern technology makes students to be more inquisitive and the acquisition of new learning is high. With the implementation of the K to 12 curriculum, teachers are challenge to develop relevant and research–based instructional materials. At present, few instructional materials could be utilized for senior high school students particularly in PreCalculus which is based on the learning competencies of the subject. This study developed a worktext in PreCalculus based on the curriculum guide provided by the Department of Education. After which, the worktext was evaluated by the Calculus experts in selected State Universities in Region 8 and selected PreCalculus teachers in public schools in Northern Samar on the level of validity and acceptability. Results showed that the content validity of the worktext as assessed by the respondents based on aims, objectives, knowledge, contextualization, summing up, practice, reinforcement, and enrichment are very much valid. The level of acceptability of the worktext based on clarity, usefulness, language and style, illustration, presentation, suitability, adequacy, and timeliness are very highly acceptable. Thet – test for independent samples was also utilized to determine the significant difference in the level of validity and acceptability of the worktext and results showed that both Calculus experts and PreCalculus teachers strongly agreed that the worktext is valid and highly acceptable. Revisions of the worktext were made based on the suggested comments of the respondents.

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, a newly discovered coronavirus. Infected people experience mild symptoms such as colds, which would lead to severe respiratory-related diseases that weaken the entire body. As the virus can be transmitted primarily through direct contact with an infected person or by touching surfaces and objects contaminated by respiratory droplets, it is critical to control and cut the transmission routes by exposing individuals under quarantine. In this study, the researchers developed an Arduino-based ankle tracker, associated with an application as the GUI, to implement geofencing to monitor people under home quarantine. The ankle tracker acts as the trigger being monitored within a geofence, a circular virtual perimeter. The system was designed to have a 95% confidence level to filter out inaccurate GNSS location data. It will only accept data that is highly accurate which depends on the PDOP value. The Geo-mapping accuracy of the tracker device was tested and presented in this study.

Macromolecular cell-envelope-spanning structures such as the bacterial flagellum must traverse the cell wall. Lytic transglycosylase enzymes are capable of enlarging gaps in the peptidoglycan meshwork to allow the efficient assembly of supramolecular complexes. In the periplasmic space, the assembly of the flagellar rod requires the scaffold protein FlgJ, which includes a muramidase domain in the canonical models Salmonella enterica and Escherichia coli. In contrast, in Rhodobacter sphaeroides, FlgJ and the dedicated flagellar lytic transglycosylase SltF are separate entities that interact in the periplasm. In this study, we show that sltF is expressed, along with the genes encoding the early components of the flagellar hierarchy that include the hook-basal body proteins, making SltF available during the rod assembly. Protein-protein interaction experiments demonstrated that SltF interacts with the rod proteins FliE, FlgB, FlgC, FlgF, and FlgG through its C-terminal region. A deletion analysis that divides the C terminus in two halves revealed that the interacting regions for most of the rod proteins are not redundant. Our results also show that the presence of the rod proteins FliE, FlgB, FlgC, and FlgF displace the previously reported SltF-FlgJ interaction. In addition, we observed modulation of the transglycosylase activity of SltF mediated by FlgB and FlgJ that could be relevant to coordinate rod assembly with cell wall remodeling. In summary, different mechanisms regulate the flagellar lytic transglycosylase, SltF, ensuring a timely transcription, a proper localization and a controlled enzymatic activity. IMPORTANCE Several mechanisms participate in the assembly of cell-envelope-spanning macromolecular structures. The sequential expression of substrates to be exported, selective export, and a specific order of incorporation are some of the mechanisms that stand out to drive an efficient assembly process. Here, we analyze how the structural rod proteins, the scaffold protein FlgJ and the flagellar lytic enzyme SltF, interact in an orderly fashion to assemble the flagellar rod into the periplasmic space. A complex arrangement of transient interactions directs a dedicated flagellar muramidase toward the flagellar rod. All of these interactions bring this protein to the proximity of the peptidoglycan wall while also modulating its enzymatic activity. This study suggests how a dynamic network of interactions participates in controlling SltF, a prominent component for flagellar formation.

Non-intrusive load monitoring is the process of recognizing and identifying electrical devices and its energy consumption on the entire electrical system through "power signatures". In this process, the aggregated load information is obtained from a single point of measurement. Compared with the traditional way of load identification by setting up multiple devices and sensors, the system uses only one energy measurement device, hence making it more efficient and economical. In this study, the focus was on designing a hardware that can obtain all power quality measurements, data analysis, and appliance identifier, which were analyzed by the microcontroller. The general information and introduction to the system, as well as the past and present literatures about the types of NILM System used by the researchers are presented. It was found that the combined unknown loads can be identified. Three different loads were analyzed at the same time from light bulb, electric fan and heater which gave 8-8.2W, 40-42W, and 238-249W respectively, all determined using a small-scale NILM system equipped with energy metering block and microcontroller that extracts and classifies loads with the use of support vector machine. This has a great significance to the industry and understanding of energy management since the demand for energy is growing rapidly.

In this paper, a web-based application for calculating ionospheric scintillation proxy indexes (S 4p-l and S 4p-2 ) and rate of total electron content index (RoTI) was developed using MATLAB. Ionospheric scintillation is a phenomenon described by rapid temporal fluctuations of incoming radio wave signals passing through irregularities in the ionosphere. Through the internet, this application can accept multiple high-rate GNSS data (compressed RINEX file) maximum of 1-day data (96 GNSS files), extracting the pseudo-range numbers, carrier-to-noise ratio (C/No) data, phase measurement data, and accept GPS daily navigational data (brdc) and then calculate and graph the ionospheric scintillation proxy indexes and RoTI.

Detection of single-phase induction motor failure through the use of accelerometer and temperature sensor via Arduino is accomplished in this paper. A prototype was developed to measure the vibration velocity and temperature of a single-phase motor with a nominal power of 60 W and a rated voltage of 230 V AC . Simulation via LabVIEW was also developed to characterize the motor whether it is in good, bad, or in critical condition. The system made use of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) Analysis to convert distorted waveforms into a simpler graph, which makes it possible to determine the amplitude of the data to be able to identify the condition of the motor. The motor conditions were characterized using the ISO 10816-1 Std. and IEC 85 Std. for the vibration and temperature, respectively. The gathered data is processed through training and validation which obtained a total of 648 data sets.

Single Phase Critical Conduction Mode is overlooked compared to Interleaved CRM and Continuous Conduction Mode as a Power Factor Correction mode when the application is medium to high power because of the design compromises that it begins to have at higher power requirement. This study explores the design and simulation of a High Efficiency and High Power Factor Single-Phase CRM Boost PFC operating at the assumed practical limit of the mode and is design with the consideration to be compliant with EMC standards. The design was able to supply an output voltage of 450V and 350W of power while maintaining a power factor greater than 0.9 and efficiency greater than 97% for a wide input range. A two stage EMI Filter was designed for the converter for the consideration of EMC, and the parameters taken into consideration for the filter design are taken from the simulation results. The design used the PFC ASIC NCP1608 which was modeled and simulated using Simplis.

Demands for modern farming systems and solutions have been increasing over the past years to accommodate the growing population in urbanized areas. High-end indoor farms that incorporated modern technology have become comfortable with the idea of using red and blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as a primary lighting system. However, little is known on the effect of varying blue and red-light ratio in the cultivation of Yerba Buena in terms of water content. The proposed device in this study dealt with 7:3, 16:2, 5:1, and 8:4 red-blue light ratio. Based from the results of the experiment conducted in this paper fresh weight and dry weight of mint plants on lighting conditions produced average water content values, 70.8463% (7:3), 58.704% (16:2), 36.4418% (5:1), and 26.2725% (8:4), demonstrating that the ratio of red and blue light affects the growth of mint plants in terms of water content; specifically, the 7:3 RB ratio produced mint plants that are more drought-resistant due to having more water content than the other mint plants.

The design of 300 watts LLC half-bridge resonant converter operating within an input range of 350 Vdc to 460 Vdc and output of 48–50 Vdc with the implementation of synchronous rectifier on the secondary side is presented. The design procedure and mathematical computation are likewise incorporated. Simulation result shows that the converter achieves the desired output with the ripple and noise voltage contained below 500mV pk–pk.The simulation for the frequency response also yielded an output of a gain margin of –18dB and a phase margin of 48 degrees which complies with the stability requirements. Likewise, the design achieves zero-volt switching and can fulfill the 20ms holdup time requirement. Meanwhile, the selection of components helps the design to achieve an efficiency of 97.30% at full load and further evaluated to meet the requirements of 80 Plus Gold Efficiency Standard.

Power supplies are evolving towards the future and are now moving towards the integration of digital control systems in their circuits. This research is in line with this development and is aimed to show what a digital system can do to protect a power supply. The purpose of this research is to design an auxiliary circuit that will power all auxiliary components and implement a housekeeping for protection against voltage and current abnormalities of the power supply. The auxiliary circuit uses a quasi-resonant flyback converter topology to improve the efficiency of the device while the housekeeping system uses a DSPIC as its core processor to make use of the different signals coming from the power supply. The DSPIC will control the turn-on and turn-off sequence as well as the different fault protections to properly power up and power down the whole system. The design achieved has inputs ranging from 300 to 450 Vdc with a regulated output of 12-volts ±4% and has achieved a phase margin of 47.37 degrees and a gain margin of 12.12dB. The housekeeping system was also successful in detecting and reacting against different faults.

The usual way of checking the attendance in a class has its own drawbacks. To be able to resolve it, automated attendance systems were introduced. In this paper, the design and development of an e-attendance checker using a facial recognition system were implemented. It can scan the faces of multiple students in a standard classroom setup. A commonly used approach for face detection called Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) with Support Vector Machine (SVM) was applied to examine the effect of luminance of the surrounding, the facial orientation of the student and so as their distance from the camera in the facial detection and recognition. The obtained attendance will then be uploaded to a database with authentication. It was found that the system has an accuracy of 95.65% and can detect and recognize up to 37 students. It is suggested that the classroom should have a luminance level of about 217.39 lux or higher to achieve a better accuracy performance of the system. As for the analysis of the effect of distance in the system, it is claimed that the distance of the student does not affect the accuracy of the system. Lastly, it is suggested that the face angles of the subject should be directly facing the camera to achieve a more accurate recognition result.
