Abstract

We measured the analyzing power and the efficiency of a new neutron polarimeter that was designed to measure [Mathematical Expression Omitted], the neutron electric form factor. The polarimeter calibration was performed as experiment E377 at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility (IUCF) with the [Mathematical Expression Omitted] reaction at proton beam energies of 124.0, 164.6, and 199.7 MeV without any shielding material ahead of the polarimeter; in addition, at 164.6 MeV we measured the analyzing power ([A.sub.y]) with 10 cm of lead, sandwiched between 3.5-cm iron plates, ahead of the polarimeter. Abstract

The Jefferson Laboratory E93-038 collaboration conducted measurements of the ratio of the electric form factor to the magnetic form factor of the neutron, G[sub E][sup n]/G[sub M][sup n], via recoil polarimetry from the quasielastic 2H(evector ,e′nvector )1H reaction at three values of Q2 [viz., 0.45, 1.15, and 1.47 (GeV/c)2] in Hall C of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The preliminary results for G[sub E][sup n] at Q2 = 0.45 and 1.15 (GeV/c)2 are consistent with the Galster parameterization; however, the preliminary result for G[sub E][sup n] at Q2 = 1.47 (GeV/c)2 lies slightly above the Galster parameterization. © 2003 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

22. A comparison of methods for determining neutron detector efficiencies at medium energies

Abstract

We compare the “Lithium Activation” (LiA) method and the “Isospin Clebsch-Gordan Ratio” (ICGR) method for determining detection efficiencies of neutrons between 100 and 160 MeV. Each method was used to determine the efficiency by relating a measured neutron yield to a cross section measured in another way: γ-ray activation cross sections for LiA; (p, p′) cross sections from experiments at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility for ICGR. Efficiencies determined by the two methods disagree substantially. Efficiencies calculated with the Monte Carlo code of Cecil et al. agree with the ICGR results. We conclude that the Lithium Activation method is inconsistent at these energies.
