In this paper an information geometric approach has been proposed to describe the two-dimensional (2d) phase transition of the first order in a monomolecular layer (monolayer) of amphiphilic molecules deposited on air/water interface. The structurization of the monolayer was simulated as an entropy evolution of a statistical set of microscopic states with a large number of relaxation times. The electrocapillary forces are considered as information constraints on the statistical manifold. The solution curves of Euler-Lagrange equations and the Jacobi field equations point out contracting pencils of geodesic trajectories on the statistical manifold, which may change into spreading ones, and converse. It was shown that the information geometrodynamics of the first-order phase transition in the Langmuir monolayer finds an appropriate realization within the Finsler-Lagrange framework.

Geometric modeling of multivariate reliability polynomials is based on algebraic hypersurfaces, constant level sets, rulings etc. The solved basic problems are: (i) find the reliability polynomial using the Maple and Matlab software environment; (ii) find restrictions of reliability polynomial via equi-reliable components; (iii) how should the reliability components linearly depend on time, so that the reliability of the system be linear in time? While dealing with the nontrivial task of classifying Mueller matrices, of special interest is the study of the degenerate Mueller matrices (matrices with vanishing determinant, for which the law of multiplication holds, but there exists no inverse elements). Earlier, it was developed a special technique of parameterizing arbitrary 4-dimensional matrices with the use of a four 4-dimensional vector (k,m,l,n). In the following, a classification of degenerate 4-dimensional real matrices of rank 1, 2, and 3 is elaborated. To separate possible classes of degenerate matrices of ranks 1 and 2, we impose linear restrictions on (k,m, l,n), which are compatible with the group multiplication law. All the subsets of matrices obtained by this method, form either subgroups or semi-groups. In the paper, the well-known quantum mechanical problem of a spin 1/2 particle in external Coulomb potential, reduced to a system of two first-order differential equations, is studied from the point of view of possible applications of the Heun function theory to treat this system. It is shown that in addition to the standard way to solve the problem in terms of the confluent hypergeometric functions (proposed in 1928 by G. Darvin and W. Gordon), there are possible several other possibilities which rely on applying the confluent Heun functions. Namely, in the paper there are elaborated two combined possibilities to construct solutions: the first applies when one equation of the pair of relevant functions is expressed trough hypergeometric functions, and another constructed in terms of confluent Heun functions. In this respect, certain relations between the two classes of functions are established. It is shown that both functions of the system may be expressed in terms of confluent Heun functions. We prove that the Ricci scalar curvature and the Berwald scalar curvature of a two-dimensional Finsler space, considered over a vector field on the 3-dimensional flat space, are naturally related to 2-dimensional electro-capillary phenomena effects observed for a compressed monolayer. The Cartan tensor and the nonlinear Barthel connection of the Finsler model are determined, and the geometric objects which depend on compression speed and on the characteristics of the electrically charged double layer are used in order to reveal several classes of structure formation within the phase transition of the first order., Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures

The goal of this paper is to develop a systematic method of locating the Mueller matrices within the class of the matrices of the real group SL(4, R). The main idea is to construct the general transformation of the group SL(4, R) (whose real matrices have unit determinant) is straightforward, but to analyze the adequacy of such a transformation for describing Mueller matrices is highly nontrivial. However, using the technique of Dirac matrices, we can quite easy and explicitly describe all the 16 one-parametric subgroups, from which, using the all possible products, emerges the whole group SL(4, R). As a matter of fact, for these separate 1-parametric subgroups the question of their adequacy of describing Mueller matrices becomes sufficiently simple and thus we obtain in each case a definite answer., Comment: 31 pages

In the context of applying the Lorentz group theory to polarization optics in the frames of Stokes-Mueller formalism, some properties of the Lorentz group are investigated. We start with the factorized form of arbitrary Lorentz matrix as a product of two commuting and conjugate $4\times 4$-matrices, $L(q,q)= A(q_{a}) A^*(q_{a}); a= 0,1,2,3$. Mueller matrices of the Lorentzian type M=L are pointed out as a special sub-class i n the total set of $4\times 4$ matrices of the linear group GL(4,R). Any arbitrary Lorentz matrix is presented as a linear combination of 16 elements of the Dirac basis. On this ground, a method to construct parameters q_a by an explicitly given Lorentz matrix L is elaborated. It is shown that the factorized form of L=M matrices provides us with a number of simple transitivity equations relating couples of initial and final 4-vectors, which are defined in terms of parameters q_a of the Lorentz group. Some of these transitivity relations can be interpreted within polarization optics and can be applied to the group-theoretic analysis of the problem of measuring Mueller matrices in optical experiments., Comment: 15 pages. Along with the construction of non-Lorentz-invariant effective field theories, recent studies which are based on geometric models of Finsler space-time become more and more popular. In this respect, the Finslerian approach to the problem of Lorentz symmetry violation is characterized by the fact that the violation of Lorentz symmetry is not accompanied by a violation of relativistic symmetry. That means, in particular, that preservation of relativistic symmetry can be considered as a rigorous criterion of the viability for any non-Lorentz-invariant effective field theory.
