The authors in this paper aim to identify the growth of literature on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). The research publications on IPRs were downloaded from the Scopus online citation database and the authors found that there were 1,513,138 records contributed globally over a period of 10 years from 2005 to 2014. The distribution of publications based on the year, country, and document type were studied. Relative growth rate (RGR) of the publications and doubling time (Td) were calculated. Most productive organizations, source titles, and the productive authors on IPR research were studied. Most cited articles in the study area were identified. The results show that a number of publications under the subjects Medicine and Engineering were produced. The developed countries are very active in IPR research and producing publications. It is found that one institution which holds the sixth place among the top 10 most productive institutions belongs to Brazil, a developing country. Two developing countries such as China and India hold second and tenth positions respectively in the top 10 countries contributing literature on IPRs.

Superhydrophobic surfaces are currently a subject of great interest because of their tremendous applications. This study offers greater insight into the self-cleaning ability and anti-icing behavior of the superhydrophobic mild steel and finds application in aircraft and marine systems. Superhydrophobic surfaces were developed on the mild steel surface by improving the roughness and reducing the energy on the surface. Mild steel was chemically etched with HCL solution for 10 min to improve the roughness. After etching, the surfaces were immersed in stearic acid solution for 3 h by solution immersion method to introduce low surface energy. The resultant surfaces have a combination of nano and micro-roughness. The roughness of the samples was measured with the aid of surface roughness tester. The roughness of the prepared surface is 4.213 μm. The microstructure of the as-prepared surface was characterized by a scanning electron microscope. The surfaces have changed to be pine-cone-like structure. The pinecone-like hierarchical structures can generate numerous grooves in which the air can be trapped which lead to a larger contact angle. The contact angle was measured by using a goniometer setup. The obtained contact angle of the surface is as high as 154° with a lower contact angle hysteresis. The surfaces were tested for self-cleaning and ice-delaying properties. The as-prepared superhydrophobic surfaces can self-clean the surface from dirt/dust while the water droplets roll over the surface. A freezing delay time of 392 s was achieved on the surfaces. The prepared surfaces possess better self-cleaning and ice-delaying properties.

Background: The term third hand smoke (THS) may have initially appeared in print in 2006, more widely known in 2009. In that work, the researchers stated that 65.2% of non-smokers and 43.3% of smokers believed THS could harm children and such opinions were associated with the imposition of home smoking bans. Fourth-hand smoke, up to two thirds of cigarette butts terminate in the environment. Objective: To estimate awareness and implication of third- and fourth-hand smoking among Medical students. Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted among Medical students of a Medical College in South India in the month of April 2023. All Medical students whoever gave consent were included in the study. A pre-designed semi-structured questionnaire was administered in google forms to the study participants and informed consent was obtained from the participants. The Beliefs About Third Hand (BATHS) Scale was used to determine beliefs about THS. The data was initially entered to Microsoft Excel 2010 and analysed using statistical package of social science (SPSS trial version 20.0). Results: Among the 360 participants only 35.6% (128) of participants were aware of third hand smoking and 23.3% (84) of participants were aware about fourth hand smoking. Nearly 222(61.6%) participants had opinion of developing asthma, followed by acute respiratory tract infection and wheeze in children when exposed to third hand smoke. Majority 341(94.7%) and 344 (95.6%) participants out of 360 had opinion that smoking should be banned in home environment and public places respectively. Conclusion: The medical students had less awareness about third hand smoke and its effect on human health, hence measures have to be taken to make medical students aware about it. It can be recommended to incorporate third- and fourth-hand smoking as educational messages in the medical curriculum.
