Abstract Background Virtopsy is “a virtual alternative to the traditional autopsy, conducted with scanning and imaging technology,” mainly with the use of postmortem computed tomography (PMCT). It is still in the budding stage in India. The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi, is the first center in the country that has established a facility for virtual autopsy. This facility aims to supplement the traditional autopsy findings and also to replace/curtail internal dissection in autopsy in the future, for which there has always been an aversion in relatives of the deceased due to emotional and religious reasons. The PMCT being a noninvasive, preservative, and objective procedure would be preferred by relatives than traditional autopsy. So, in this regard, this pilot study was conducted with the objective for comparison of PMCT vs traditional autopsy findings in fatal road traffic accidents to analyze its advantages and limitations in order to replace/augment the traditional autopsy with PMCT in the near future in road traffic accident cases. Results The authors evaluated 10 cases of road traffic accident victims. In each case, an autopsy was preceded by a PMCT examination using a 16-slice Multi-Slice CT spiral scanner. The fractures of the skull, facial bones, clavicle, scapula, and vertebra were located more precisely as compared to traditional autopsy. Interpretation of the ventricular hemorrhages of the brain is much better in PMCT. PMCT should be the investigation of choice for pneumothorax, pneumoperitoneum, pneumocephalus, and hemosiuns, while it needs further exploration to detect injuries of soft tissues as out of 14 injuries only 2 were identified by PMCT. Conclusions The procedure of whole-body PMCT followed by region-wise CT can be studied for a better PMCT acquisition to detect soft tissue injury findings more precisely. However, the PMCT in this study was able to conclude the cause of death in a more scientific way than the traditional autopsy.

The canal of Nuck is the female equivalent of the patent processus vaginalis in the male. Abnormality of canal of Nuck is a rare clinical condition amendable with surgical intervention. It usually presents as a swelling in the inguinal region in pediatric age group. However, their presentation in an adult women is very rare. Intraabdominal contents including intestine, uterus, fallopian tube, and ovaries are prone to herniate though the unobliterated processus vaginalis. Hydrocele of the canal of Nuck (HCN) may develop in these patients which may be misdiagnosed with the other differential diagnosis. In this case report, we emphasize on reporting minimally invasive surgical intervention of HCN by transabdominal preperitoneal approach in a of tertiary care hospital.

The hybrid influence of AA - TiO2 - Gr on the characteristics of aluminum powder metal matrix composites (AGCMs) produced using metal powder technology was assessed as part of current work. While keeping the TiO2 mass transfer coefficient steady at 5%, the influence of (Graphite Nano Particles) GNPs weight fractions, 0, 0.5, 1, & 1.5%, on the mechanical and physical properties of the created hybrid nanoparticle were examined.The powders were mixed using a good passing grinding, which would then be carried out by compression and sintering.They studied conductance, nanostructures, ultimate resistance, toughness and other properties.The data confirmed that the mechanical and physical properties of the armature alloy were significantly better than those of the unreinforced matrix.Hybrid TiO2 - Gr partials have been distributed uniformly with no discernible pores in both the electron microscope and also the scanning electron micrograph photos taken with energy dispersion spectroscopy.With an improvement in the percentage weight of partial ceramics, the complex permittivity of the generated aluminium powder composite was also improved, but the dielectric properties were significantly decreased.In addition, sintering samples of the hybrid nanocomposite containing 0.5% GNPS show a uniform organisation of the two reinforcement steps.When the GNPS content was 0.5%, the mechanical properties were 504.6 MPa, which is 31% stronger than AA-5% TiO2.The surface temperature reached the highest level at 0.5% weight GNPs or 345 W/m k.The results suggest an effective method to produce hybrid nanoparticles with high resistance and excellent conductance, which have a wide variety of design uses, including power transfer.

Introduction- This study was conducted in the ‘Kumbh Mela’ at Nashik where the ‘Annachatras’ of ‘Sadhugram’ cater food de- mands of large number of inmates and devotees. This increased the need for maintenance of food and personal hygiene of the food handlers. Hence it was decided to assess knowledge and practices regarding personal hygiene of food handlers. Methods- Observational study of 62 food handlers, with struc- tured pre-designed proforma was undertaken. Study was carried out among 3 Akhaadas of Nashik during Sept-Dec 2015. After in- formed consent from participants, information on socio- demographic data, knowledge and practices about food and per- sonal hygiene was obtained. A general physical examination to as- sess personal hygiene was also undertaken. Results-Most of the food handlers (85.5%) had heard and 83.9% had knowledge of transmission of diseases by food. There was less use of gloves (19.4%); hair cover (17.7%) and face mask (14.5%). There was acceptable level of personal hygiene mainly clean hairs (95.2%), clean cut nails (83.8%) and clean hands (88.7%). There was no association of education with knowledge, practice or level of personal hygiene. Conclusion- The study revealed that most of food handlers had knowledge of food borne diseases and observed personal hygiene.

Introduction: Mobile technology is one of the latest extensions of technological innovations that can be integrated into medical education. With the aid of these devices, students learn faster outside the classroom by having quick access to the internet and easy retrieval of required health related learning resources to keep alongside of recent trend and development. In medicine practice one has to continuously update his/her medical knowledge and mobile learning will serve as a tool for selfdirected learning. Aim: To explore the attitudes and perceptions of undergraduate students towards M-learning. Materials and Methods: This educational research included 90 third year MBBS students having clinical posting under the Department of Community Medicine from tertiary healthcare institute in Nashik. Students learning approach was studied with the help of pre-validated questionnaire to know whether they have deep or surface approach to learning. M-learning group was formed on mobile social app to supplement conventional teaching-learning. One subject topic (Tuberculosis, Dengue fever/DHF, Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus etc.) per week was allotted and after conventional teaching on first day of week the learning materials for the topic chosen for that week were uploaded on the group and students could download as well as share their ideas, learning resources, ask doubts and answer questions at least twice weekly through this mobile platform anytime, anywhere. At the end of three months students attitudes and perceptions towards M-learning were studied by pre-validated structured questionnaires. A five point Likert scale was used (5= strongly agree to 1= strongly disagree) for answering each item of all three questionnaires. The score of 60% (90 out of 150) and the score of 75% (30 out of 40) for each item was considered as the measure that indicates whether or not the student had a positive attitude and perceived the importance of M-learning respectively. Utilisation of M-learning was also studied. Results: It was found that 47 (52.2%) students had deep learning approach, 10 (11.1%) students had surface learning approach. An 80% of students had positive attitude towards M-learning and 76.7% students had perceived the importance of M-learning. A 52.2% of students were actively involved in M-learning group for learning purpose. But 57.8% students did not download (at least twice weekly) the shared reference material, 38.9% students never read and/or replied to the questions asked and 60.0% students never asked any doubts/ questions related to the discussion. Conclusion: Students had positive attitude and perceived the importance of M-learning. But when they were provided with the opportunity, they did not show appreciable M-learning utilization. This could be because, M-learning was not implemented by all departments; also it was not the part of student’s regular assessment and probably a lesser study duration.

Background: In the majority of neonates from developing nations, the birth and development of neonates is done in rural backgrounds. However, the literature data is scarce concerning the assessment of the burden of morbidities in rural children at Indian healthcare centers. Aim: The present study aimed to assess the incidence of various morbidities in the neonates of rural areas along with associated case fatalities in rural neonates that are home-cared for. The study also assessed neonates with indications for health care and the subjects that received the healthcare. Methods: The study assessed neonates by trained female village healthcare workers at birth and in the neonatal period of 0 to 28 days through 8 visits at home. The data was checked by a physician expert in the field and to assess morbidities, a computer program was used. The data gathered was statistically assessed. Results: Among 508 live births, 95% of births were at home and a total of 75% (n=381) neonates were assessed. The agreement in the observations of physicians and healthcare workers was 92%. High-risk morbidities were seen in 48.03% (n=183) neonates with a case fatality of >10%. Inadequate weight of <300 grams and low-risk morbidities were seen in 17.9% and 72.2% of subjects respectively. Clinical features of sepsis were seen in 17% of subjects. 54% of subjects needed healthcare and 19 neonates died among these 20 with only 2% getting medical attention. The rate of neonatal mortality was 52.4/1000 live births. Conclusions: The present study concludes that nearly half of neonates in rural areas develop 10 times more neonatal morbidity rates and require healthcare. However, these neonates practically do not receive healthcare facilities. This gap in care needs urgent home-based neonatal care development to decrease neonatal mortality and morbidity.
