CAPITALISM , *GEOGRAPHY - Abstract
Technologies have increasingly invaded school environments and teachers seek to follow this race, bringing new ways to stimulate Geography classes. But sometimes they forget that not-so-modern technologies, such as television, are still in frequent use by young people. Thus, the Cartoons provide a playful way to approach the Teaching of Geography, through an accessible language. Here we do an analysis in Brother of Jorel who goes with his family to the mall and embarks on an adventure in this universe that is a symbol of Capitalism. In the present study, a dialogism between Bakhtinian concepts and the Brother of Jorel is proposed, such as autobiography, carnival, polyphony. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FREEDOM of speech , *PUBLIC spaces , *TRESPASS , *COALITIONS , *POLITICAL science - Abstract
By drawing, among others, on the ideas of the Bakhtin Circle and Judith Butler, this paper explores spatial struggles over the right to free speech at Hyde Park, London, 1861–1962. From the 1860s to the early 20th century, the state gradually constructed a "monologic" discourse about an ideal‐typical "indecent" speaker who would "trespass" on Hyde Park through their "excitable speech" against a legally sanctioned right to give a "public address" in the park. This discourse gave the state some room to evict those it claimed to be transgressing "public address". However, different "heteroglossic coalitions" of regulars ensured that Hyde Park remained not only a "political assembly" to discuss political issues, but also a "social assembly" to exercise free speech on a range of social topics. Indeed, by the 1950s, these coalitions used a nearby road scheme to successfully argue it was the state that was potentially trespassing, or "encroaching", on free speech at Hyde Park. EXECUTIVE power , *BLACK people , *ARCHETYPES , *DISCOURSE , *INSTITUTIONAL racism , *RACISM , *ATMOSPHERE - Abstract
Considering the emergence of discourses outlined by conservative and intolerant in the Brazilian socio-political atmosphere post-2018, this article aims to analyze how the racism is configured in the current institutional discourse. The notions of word and counterword are mobilized based on the Bakhtinian theoretical and methodological assumptions, having as object a project of speech by the current president of the Palmares Foudantion, an institution which is part of the Federal executive power. Assuming that discourse is a social practice that reveals how societies from different periods of time are ideologically structured, this enunciative project analysis evidenced the prominence of a racist institutional view, explicitly marked by discursive use of offensive and violent words. In contrast, the analysis showed that despite being institutionally vilified, the national black community demonstrates, through phenomenic evidence of counterword, an identity archetype permeated with the semantic-axiological field of resistance. FICTIONAL characters , *NINETEENTH century , *DRAG queens , *TWENTIETH century , *DATA extraction , *CHRONOTOPE , *WORLDVIEW - Abstract
Roleplays (RP's) are performative practices that enable the creation of characters in fictional cities in the space of games (gameplaces). These virtual lives-narratives are energized by diverse social voices, where languages, discourses and worldviews, transmuted in the psychosocial constitution of these representations amplified by cyberculture. In this context, we seek to analyze the dialogism constituting the identity of the character Maria Vaquejada with the hypothesis that the gamer and streamer LuCroft articulates two chronotopes in the architecture of her role-playing: one related to the 19th century of the United States, circumscribed in Red Dead Redemption 2 and, another, interconnected to the experiences of queer bodies (gays, transvestites, drag queens, non-binary, among others) that intersect with the contemporary gamer sphere. The analysis has as an epistemological approach the dialogical perspective of language produced in the writings of the Bakhtin Circle, from which we trigger concepts such as dialogism, polyphony, alterity and chronotope. In the thickening of the discussion undertaken, we also mobilized the ideas of Brait (2006, 2011, 2013), Butler (2003), Muriel and Crawford (2018), Shaw (2011) and Ruberg (2019, 2020). The extraction of data consists, from a diachronic cut, of 20 sequential videos collected on the YouTube channel of LuCroft. The results of the analysis point to varied discourses that mark the different positions of the subject as "bar owner", "religious", "woman who fights misogyny", in addition to a chronotope rework with socio-historical aspects of the Brazilian Northeast of the century 19th and 20th century. HUMAN skin color , *DISCOURSE analysis , *MARKETING strategy , *CONCORD , *DISCOURSE - Abstract
Based on the theoretical-methodological contributions proposed by the Bakhtinian studies, this article takes the advertising film Caras e Cores, by Faber-Castell as the corpus of an analytical work of audiovisual statements, explained in its architectural enunciative unity as verbivocovisual. The objective is to understand if and how verbivocovisuality contributes to the analysis, especially of audiovisual discourses, in which these three dimensions are made explicit and constitute their integral unit. For this, the Bakhtinian notions of utterance, ideological sign, social voice and dialogical relations are mobilized together. The results point to the productivity of the notion of verbivocovisuality and the analysis of the advertising discourse reveals that the brand resignifies the ideological sign "skin color" and brings up the discourse on diversity and representativeness, with a contemporary aesthetic finish as a lucrative marketing strategy. Abstract: This study addresses some theoretical contributions of the Bakhtin Circle for the analysis of verbivocovisual utterances, since the discourse taken as object of analysis is constituted and put into practice by verbal, vocal and visual elements in an architectonic whole which means. From this perspective, we analyzed the utterance “Guerra do Rio”, which constitutes the editorial of the newspaper Extra launched in 2017, composed of three materialities – i) the video entitled “Isso não é normal”, published in the website of the Extra; ii) the editorial e; iii) the cover of Jornal Extra –, considering the senses that emanate from the ideological sign war in sensationalist journalistic discourse of the newspaper in question. TEACHING guides , *CONCEPTION , *TEACHING , *ENGLISH language , *CURRICULUM - Abstract
Published in 1996 by 10 researchers from different areas and institutions, the manifesto that presents the pedagogy of multiliteracies is a recognized pedagogical proposal that aims to encompass different contemporary practices and knowledge (THE NEW LONDON GROUP, 1996). In Brazil, the pedagogy of multiliteracies is well received and disseminated, integrating even the curriculum components of the BNCC, and explicitly subsidizing at least one coursebook series for the teaching of English approved by the PNLD (TILIO, 2016). Based on reflections on the pedagogy of multiliteracies (ROJO, 2012; 2013; TILIO, 2015; 2017), we intend to revisit the aspects of the "how" of this pedagogical proposal. In this movement, we integrate a socioideological conception of language (VOLOCHÍNOV, 1929) to this pedagogy. Especially with regard to the effort to think about a pedagogy that can educate critical global citizens, we invest in the dialogue between Bakhtinian language conception and the multiliteracies in order to promote a pedagogical work that allows an essentially social look at the senses. After this discussion, we will present an activity within this proposal. With the analysis of this pedagogical proposal, we aim to exemplify our theoretical discussion. In this sense, we advocate that the pedagogy of multiliteracies be guided by critical teaching practices, especially through a Bakhtinian conception of language. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIGITAL media , *POLITICAL cartoons , *CIRCLE , *IRONY , *WIT & humor - Abstract
Cartoons are a critical speech genre, in the sense that they are one’s assessment about social themes in which one is circumscribed. Therefore, cartoons may reverberate many sense effects, such as humor, irony and affront, enabling an analysis of language in use. This article’s objective is to comprehend the constitutive elements of a cartoon by Roque Sponholz, published in 2011, via Brazilian digital media. It is aimed to understand which features that lead to the construction of intolerant senses are mobilized in this act; as well as which dialogical threads are necessary for a cartoon to be considered as having intolerant contours. To this end, the article resorts to the discursive theoretical-methodological perspective, especially that postulated by the Bakhtin Circle. The analysis indicates that the cartoon in question turns to intolerant social discourses, both moving towards the already-said and projecting response-discourses. By doing so, the architectonics of cartoons assumes intolerant senses as a discursive whole in which values of judgment can be seen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LINGUISTICS , *DISCOURSE analysis , *IDIOMS , *CIRCLE , *RELEVANCE - Abstract
Diverse and productive ways of studying the word have been instituted in the field of language sciences. In this paper, the objective is to delineate epistemological and theoretical-methodological considerations regarding the study of the word as an ideological sign, from the writings of today called Bakhtin Circle and, more specifically, M. Bakhtin, V. Volóchinov and P. Medviédev. Therefore, the paper revisits the set of these works and returns to the main considerations developed there, centered on the constitutive relation existing among sign-ideology-word. The study aims to contribute to the understanding of the word as a semiotic-ideological dimension, placing the relevance of this discussion for idiom/language studies in the enunciative-discursive perspective and in the consolidation of the discursive studies, which in Brazil are called Dialogical Discourse Analysis (ADD). 28.

- Abstract
In this work we point out implications of the world of life (daily acts) and culture (social practices) from the perspective of the child at the time of discursive experiences, when he is embracing formal teaching instances. The dialogical approach to language dealt with by Bakhtin and his Circle are references for the reflections discussed here, opening ways to listen to the child's voice, in what it has to say – and does say. Ginzburg's evidential paradigm was the basis for the search for possible traces of the production of meanings. It is analyzed, in particular, Lucca's experience when challenged to write a poem, knowledge mobilized in the school sphere and outside it. When faced with a clash of voices (his teacher, his mother-researcher, authors of books (writing), oral narratives), the literacy student positions himself discursively in front of the other and through the memory of life lived in great time, theorizes about the learning genres, following and reversing rules by the criterion of its creative understanding of the dialogic relationship and through fantasy, humanizes the act of living together., Neste trabalho pontuamos implicações do mundo da vida (atos cotidianos) e da cultura (práticas sociais) pela perspectiva da criança na altura de experiências discursivas, ao abraçar instâncias formais de ensino.

- Abstract
This article aim to discuss how Voloshinov's philosophy of language (2017 [1929]) can contribute to semiotic studies, especially in its philosophically sociological character. First, we start with a definition of the historical-epistemological perspective that characterizes our reflection, and we highlight one of the moments in which Voloshinov's philosophy was explicitly present in the work of Juri Lotman [1922 1993], one of the most important semioticians. Second, we characterize the sociologism of 1920s and 1930s in the USSR in which Voloshinov worked scientifically, a factor that greatly contributed to define his philosophy of language as an epistemically sociological stance. Finally, we begin to discuss, after a brief debate on the philosophical primacy of social interaction that is presupposed by that philosophy, how Voloshinov's concept of enunciation (2017 [1929]) can serve as a starting point for a semiotic in a sociological hue. This article aims to contribute to the defense of interdisciplinary logic in the field of language studies.

ABSTRACT: Based on Bakhtinian thought, we developed dimensions of a perspective of counter-hegemonic training of Science teachers. This training perspective, which we call “dialogical-responsible teacher education,” consists of seven dimensions - practical, ethics, aesthetics, investigative, political, contextual, and knowledge. The last three will be developed in this paper. The development of these dimensions was built up from the collating of Bakhtinian Circle texts with texts from the literature on teacher education, tensions, and contrasts, showing insufficiencies and proposing advances concerning the hegemonic training model guided by technical rationality. In this process, formative dimensions emerged that distanced from a prescriptive profile, are constituted as principles that allow rethinking, transforming, giving directions, and structuring formations that break with the hegemonic perspective. We argue that our dimensions make it possible to resignify teacher education regarding the broad understanding of reality, criticality, teaching autonomy, organicity of training processes, and dialogicity in constructing knowledge.

- Abstract
This study addresses some theoretical contributions of the Bakhtin Circle for the analysis of verbivocovisual utterances, since the discourse taken as object of analysis is constituted and put into practice by verbal, vocal and visual elements in an architectonic whole which means. From this perspective, we analyzed the utterance "Guerra do Rio", which constitutes the editorial of the newspaper Extra launched in 2017, composed of three materialities - i) the video entitled "Isso não é normal", published in the website of the Extra; ii) the editorial e; iii) the cover of Jornal Extra -, considering the senses that emanate from the ideological sign war in sensationalist journalistic discourse of the newspaper in question. - Abstract
This study aims at analysing 'forum' tool - in the Learning Management System Moodle - as a discourse genre in Bakthin Circle's perspective, recognising it as a bulding space of the utterances and interactions. The context of this research is the Tutoring Teaching Training Course for e-learning conducted by CEAD/UFU. The data were obtained from the interaction among 19 tutors' applicants, in the Presentation Forum, Module I. During the messages exchange the language was present, fulfilling its social function - the communication, which is more than decoding. Some participants exceeded the bounds of conversation, achieving affective levels. In conclusion, the forum tool is a way of communication with specific dynamic and features, inserted in a particular historical and cultural time. Beside this, depending on its goal and according to the objective of the activity developed by the elearning teacher, the forum can be a channel of learning by the interaction among the participants mediated through the tutor. ABSTRACT In the Bakhtin Circle’s propositions, the concepts elaborated do not appear completely split from one another, but inter-connected. Therefore, we believe there are key concepts that are in the foundation of other concepts’ formulation, even though such association does not occur explicitly, as is the case of the notion of singularity. Our goal consists, thus, in establishing a theoretical reflection regarding the relations between singularity and polyphony based on the works Toward a Philosophy of the Act [1920-24] and Problems of Dostoevsky’s Poetics [1963]. Based on that reflection, we understand that the artistic construction of the polyphonic novel may be perceived as enabled by a recognition of the singularity of each subject and, consequently, of their isonomy in relation to the truth. Such reading key corroborates the perspective that Toward a Philosophy of the Act, launcher of the notion of singularity, acts as a project of philosophical reflection that assists in the comprehension of subsequent Bakhtinian productions.

The purpose of this paper is to explore, based on theoretical propositions of the Bakhtin Circle, some relations between discourse and ideology, taking the scientific dissemination discourse of Ciência Hoje [Science Today] magazine as our object of investigation. Operating with the idea that the concrete utterance is the main locus of creation of ideology, we focus on two editorials of that magazine (one from the 1980s and the other from the 1990s), trying to show how ideological clashes of contemporary society manifest in the architecture of those editorials.

This article seeks to develop a critical reading of Basic Sanitation, the movie, from 2007, directed and scripted by Jorge Furtado, with special attention to the mechanisms that the work uses in order to build its plot permeated by intertextual elements, from rearticulated uses that resignify them through intonation. For this, we will take as support the dialogic theory of discourse, from the Bakthin Circle, observing aspects of the filmic text and its production context, investigating recurrent elements in Jorge Furtado's feature film, with attention to its metalinguistic dimension in structures and framings that characterize the director's style marks., Este artigo procura desenvolver uma leitura crítica de Saneamento básico, o filme, de 2007, dirigido e roteirizado por Jorge Furtado, com especial atenção para os mecanismos que a obra utiliza no sentido de construir sua trama permeada de elementos intertextuais, a partir de usos rearticulados que os ressignificam pela entonação.

This article analyzes, through the bakhtinian method, the TV series The Handmaid’s Tale (2017, 2018, 2019) in comparison with Porta dos Fundos’ sketch Handmaid’s Tale (2019), which makes references to Brazilian politics scenario. This work’s aim is to reflect on: how present the discourse depicted in the TV show is; the value attributed to women and the relation between the TV series and Brazilian society. This paper is based on bakhthinian studies. In order to exemplify the relation between Brazilian society and the TV series, two Instagram posts will be analyzed. This study is justified by its social relevance. The results show how the current Brazilian government intensifies inequality through its patriarchal practices, which are sustained by religious discourses. In this paper we question the "modern" concept of literacy, observing it as it is a new theory aiming at replacing the concept of "alphabetization" and its practices so as to produce effective ways of inserting the subject in the worlds of writing and reading. We especially employ the Bakhtinian concepts of speech genres and responsible act on concrete utterances that exemplify the current teaching practice in order to show that the key problem in education is not the name change of a teaching practice, but it is both the mixture of two different realities when it comes to different levels of literacy or to different literacies and the unequal distribution of cultural goods in society.

This paper locates its genesis in a small town called Vitebsk in Belorussia which experienced a flowering of creativity and artistic energy that led to significant modernist experimentation in the years 1917–1921. Marc Chagall, returning from the October Revolution took up the position of art commissioner and developed an academy of art that became the laboratory for Russian modernism. Chagall’s Academy, Bakhtin’s Circle (and associated animations with other intellectuals of tis era), and Malevich’s experiments, artistic group UNOVIS—all in fierce dialogue with one another—made the town of Vitebsk into an artistic crucible in the early twentieth century. We argue that this creative collective transformed creative energies of Russian drama, music, theatre, art, and philosophy in a distinctive contribution to modernism, structuralism and formalism that contributed richly to the social understanding of creativity itself that is so evident across Mikhail Bakhtin’s subsequent body of work, and elsewhere across the world. This paper argues that a consideration of such interplay has much potential for twenty-first century educational philosophy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
According to Bakhtin's perspective on discourse, words possess two concomitant ways of existence in language. One of them is that which remains stable and reproducible; it is called meaning. The other one, the theme, is unitary and unreproducible, which allows clashes of different social voices to exist, demonstrating the ideologies which operate over them. With the concepts developed by the Bakhtin Circle, we will analyze the discourses produced during the occupations made by high- school students in the state public schools of São Paulo, in the second semester of 2015. These occupations were motivated in response to the project of school reorganization proposed by the state government. In the present work, we will contrast two discourses: the one from those who were against the school reorganization, that is, the high-school students, and the one from the government, the project proponent. These discourses generated ideological conflicts around the word "dialogue"; our study is built on these tensions. To the analysis of the students' discourse, we will use the documentary "Acabou a paz: isto aqui vai virar o Chile", by Carlos Pronzato, as corpus. The analysis of the government discourse corresponds, in this article, to the utterances produced by Governor Geraldo Alckmin, by Herman Voorwald, former Secretary of Education of São Paulo, and by Fernando Padula, former chief of staff of the Secretariat of Education. The utterances were taken from different interviews. The analysis, based on the bakhtinian theoretical framework, has developed different meanings related to the different social voices that the word "dialogue" assumed during the studied period. MYTHOLOGY , *HEGEMONY , *STATE power , *POLITICAL sociology - Abstract
This article considers the depoliticising effects of current images and myths of apocalyptic visions, such that the world faces a catastrophe whether this emerges from environmental degradation, mass migration, terrorism, or global financial collapse. In our digital media age, apocalyptic images are now also captured through the raw footage of actual disaster events. In the article we call such footage, “hyperimages”. The power of the hyperimage is not, as Baudrillard once said, that reality is “just like the movies”, rather, hyperimages demonstrate that the image captured and shown to others is all too real because they depict actual everyday disasters. Importantly, such is the power of hyperimages that they are often employed by the political right to help them construct a hegemonic project aiming to win state power and to influence state policies. Drawing on the Bakhtin Circle, however, we show that hyperimages are also mediated and circulated through a multitude of social groups and voices in society, which contain seeds of radical heteroglossic alternatives to that of the right. Following this, the article then examines how responses to apocalyptic hyperimages can be politicised in a progressive direction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Wilhelm von Humboldt was an important theorist in the formation of European and Russian linguistics. His thinking largely influenced the St. Petersburg School, the headquarters of the Bakhtin Circle. No wonder, Mikhail Bakhtin and Valentin Voloshinov central concepts dialogue with the thinking of the German theorist. In this article, we show this relationship through the parallel between the Humboldtian concepts ‘worldviews’ and ‘dualism’,on the one hand, and those applied by Bakhtin and Voloshinov – ‘behavioral ideology’ and ‘dialogism’, on the other. Our aim is to facilitate the reception of Humboldt’s ideas by the Brazilian public, already familiar with the Bakhtin Circle. After the theoretical presentation, we will quote the content of two conversations on the preservation of linguistic diversity to demonstrate that Humboldt’s conception of it as an intellectual wealth is presented in the speeches of both Russian and Brazilian specialists in the fields of Linguistics, Education and Sciences. We intend, with the article, to highlight the importance for Brazil receiving and deeper understanding Humboldt’s ideas.
