The study focuses on the instructor as a stakeholder in implementing the flipped classroom learning approach and ways to lessen professor resistance to flipped classroom adoption. The barrier to professor adoption that concerns potentially lower student evaluations as a result of incorporating the new approach is of particular interest. The investigation shows how inverted classrooms (ICs), incorporating both traditional and e-learning pedagogical elements, impact student perceptions of course quality and instructor teaching effectiveness. Students in an Introduction to Information Systems course were given surveys after a traditional course presentation, once the instructor changed to an IC, and after the instructor had taught the course in an IC environment several times. The results show that there are positive impacts to student perceptions of both course quality and instructor teaching effectiveness when students are taught in an IC. Further investigations into additional factors to encourage the adoption of this pedagogical approach are also provided.

The possibilities and risks inherent in the dissemination of ICT necessitate implementation of cybersecurity initiatives. Yet, we know very little about the specific relationships between national information infrastructure (NII), cybersecurity capability, and economic development in emerging economies. This paper proposes a model based on national nuclear threat security through which a developing nation could develop an effective cybersecurity infrastructure while simultaneously positively impacting economic development. Our model extends the cybersecurity triad of internal governance, private sector partners and an active cybercitizenry to add a fourth influence – foreign government relations – that significantly impacts socioeconomic development. The US electricity grid is a central piece of critical infrastructure, extremely vulnerable to exogenous attacks, and requiring an enhanced command and control system to be prepared for emergencies. The current economic climate of deregulation of the electricity industry has made this objective of grid emergency preparedness simultaneously more imperative and more difficult to achieve. This paper outlines essential components of an information systems-based technical command and control solution for the US grid and discusses the current and future economic, regulatory and organizational factors surrounding the grid that would ensure its reliability should an emergency situation arise. Purpose — This paper aims to investigate the effects of gender, age and education on new technology implementation in Saudi Arabia, a technologically developing country, using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Design/methodology/approach — The research was an empirical investigation based on surveys completed by 1,088 Saudi knowledge workers. Findings — The TPB model performs well in Saudi Arabia. This validation accounts for 37 percent of the variance in behavioral intention among Saudi knowledge workers. For the moderator variables, there were no statistically significant interactions, with the exception of the moderation of perceived behavioral control on behavioral intention by level of education. Research limitations/implications — Saudi Arabia is an exemplar for many developing nations characterized by distinct intellectual and cultural traditions that differ from Western cultures. Demographic variables (e.g. gender and age) that have been reported to be significant moderators of the influences of attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control on behavioral intention in other cultural samples were found to be non-significant in this Saudi Arabian sample. Practical implications — System developers using user-centered design approaches have different design criteria for the successful workforce adoption of information technology (IT) systems in a technologically developing nation, as compared to the workforce of a technologically developed nation. Originality/value — This paper validates TPB as a multi-cultural model for investigating the impact of attitudes, beliefs, and subjective norms on technology adoption, and, in contrast to previous studies, indicates the (non)effects of select demographic moderators on the model using a non-Western sample. Pharmacogenetics, a subset of precision medicine, provides a way to individualize drug dosages and provide tailored drug therapy to patients. This revolution in prescribing techniques has resulted in a knowledge deficit for many healthcare providers on the proper way to use pharmacogenetics in practice. This research study explored the potential adoption of clinical decision support system mobile apps by clinicians through investigating the initial usability of the PGx prototype application in an effort to address the lack of such tools used in practice. The study method included usage of a clinical decision support system programmed within our pharmacogenomics drug dosage application (called PGx) in a simulated environment. Study participants completed the System Usability Scale survey to report on the perceived usefulness and ease of use of the mobile app. The PGx app has a higher perceived usability than 85% of all products tested, considered very good usability for a product.
