The use of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI)-derived radiomics has the potential to offer noninvasive, imaging-based biomarkers for the identification of subvisual characteristics indicative of a poor oncologic outcome. The present study, therefore, seeks to develop, validate, and assess the performance of an MRI-derived radiomic model for the prediction of prostate cancer (PC) recurrence following radical prostatectomy (RP) with curative intent. mpMRI imaging was obtained from 251 patients who had undergone an RP for the treatment of localized prostate cancer across two institutions and three surgeons. All patients had a minimum of 2 years follow-up via prostate-specific antigen serum testing. Each prostate mpMRI was individually reviewed, and the prostate was delineated as a single slice (ROI) on axial T2 high-resolution image sets. A total of 924 radiomic features were extracted and tested for stability via intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) following image normalization via histogram matching. Fourteen important and nonredundant features were found to be predictors of PC recurrence at a mean ± SD of 3.2 ± 2.2 years post-RP. Five-fold, ten-run cross-validation of the model containing these fourteen features yielded an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.89 ± 0.04 in the training set (n = 225). In comparison, the University of California San Fransisco Cancer of the Prostate Risk Assessment score (UCSF-CAPRA) and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) Pre-Radical prostatectomy nomograms yielded AUC of 0.66 ± 0.05 and 0.67 ± 0.05, respectively (p < 0.01). When the radiomic model was applied to the test set (n = 26), AUC was 0.78; sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were 60%, 86%, 52%, and 89%, respectively. Accuracy in predicting PC recurrence was 81%.

This paper is based on the quantitative findings of a mixed-methods research that explored the effect of internationalisation of higher education (IoHE) on the global citizenship (GC) of graduate students. Specifically, the study sought to find out the effect of internationalisation of academic staff, curriculum, and the student community on the GC of graduate students at Makerere University in Uganda. Using the sequential explanatory research design, data were collected from 180 respondents via a partially-adapted self-administered questionnaire and analysed using appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings showed, among others, that the IoHE in terms of academic staff (R=0.236; R2=0.056; p=0.01), the curriculum (R=0.250; R2=0.062; p=0.01), and student community (R=0.202; R2=0.041; p=0.007), all had statistically significant positive effects on the GC of graduate students. These findings reinforced the earlier belief that the more internationalised a university is, the more likely its graduate students would become global citizens; thus, significant efforts need to be made to internationalise these, and other aspects of university operations. Indeed, this work presents to university management aspects of IoHE that greatly impinge on the GC of graduate students. No earlier works had similar results in the context of the global south where IoHE has not yet taken root.

Researchers in a recent study found that online students' ability to self-regulate led to more focused attention and time on task, and in turn, these skills could lead to better learning. Given the need for more theoretical work in this area, as well as the potential practical benefits from the use of these pedagogical strategies, we sought to compare differences between high- versus low-collaboration teams in an online assignment to determine if higher levels of student-to-student collaboration led to higher levels of self-regulation or learning presence (forethought and planning, monitoring, strategy use, and reflection). Specifically, we explored how the use of high-collaboration technologies, such as Google Docs and Google Hangouts, impacted the level of learning presence students demonstrated while participating in a small group project. The low-collaboration group made minimal use of an asynchronous discussion forum for collaboration. Differences in collaboration were measured using student grades, peer evaluations, pre- and posttests, and community of inquiry surveys. In addition, quantitative content analysis and social network analysis were used to assess collaboration by examining learning presence in the two groups.

International carbon markets are core features of climate mitigation policy. They include the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism, the Paris Agreement’s Sustainable Development Mechanism, and the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Carbon Offsetting Reduction Scheme for International Aviation. Yet, studies suggest that large quantities of international carbon offsets may not result in additional reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. This article examines these markets’ legal accountability; in other words, the extent to which their performance can be independently assessed against legal standards, and the potential for consequences if those standards are not met. Specifically, it looks at the markets’ internal appeal and grievance processes – or lack thereof – and hypothetical domestic litigation related to the markets’ environmental integrity. Drawing on recent climate change cases and law on the immunity of international organizations, the article explores whether courts in Canada and Germany could hold these international markets to account and mitigate the risk that they do not fulfil their purpose of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Radiation therapy is a common treatment modality offered to patients with localized prostate cancer. It can be associated with early radiation-induced toxicities including dysuria, nocturia, frequency, urgency, spasm, and, rarely, hematuria. Early toxicities usually resolve once the treatment period has ended. Chronic toxicities are less common, and rarely, patients may experience radiation-induced hemorrhagic cystitis and hematuria months or years after radiation. We herein describe the case of a 65-year-old man with a past medical history of type-2 diabetes mellitus who experienced hemorrhagic cystitis for months following his radiation therapy. The patient was on sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor therapy (empagliflozin), which we highlight as a potential risk factor for hemorrhagic cystitis. After cessation of Jardiance and initiation of semaglutide (GLP-1 agonist), his urinary symptoms significantly improved. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first such case reported. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) set a cap for international aviation’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at its 2020 level and established a market-based mechanism to help achieve that cap. Against that backdrop, this article identifies ICAO’s legal obligation to mitigate climate change by examining the international climate change treaties, ICAO’s constituent treaty, the Chicago Convention, and ICAO’s organizational practice. It finds that because ICAO is not a party to the climate change treaties and has a high degree of institutional autonomy, those treaties do not directly impose an obligation on ICAO. Although the Chicago Convention does not expressly mention the environment or climate change, ICAO’s member states interpreted the Convention and enlarged ICAO’s mandate under it to include the reduction or limitation of GHG emissions from international aviation so as to prevent dangerous climate change. This article finds that pursuant to Jan Klabbers’ recently developed theory of role responsibility, ICAO arguably has an obligation to carry out this important mandate, and its failure to do so, or failure to do so effectively, could constitute an internationally wrongful omission.

International shipping is one of the largest sources of climate pollution. The conventional view is that, despite some ambiguities in the climate treaties, international law only requires states to implement global rules adopted by the International Maritime Organization. This overlooks the important and timely question of whether other sources of law oblige states to do more. This Article argues that customary environmental principles, human rights law, and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea mandate that states take all necessary measures to prevent and reduce shipping's climate risks. The measures that are necessary are dynamic and differential, and they include support for ambitious and effective global rules and unilateral actions. Because shipping is a wellquantified sector, emissions data is readily available and there are various options for legal accountability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
