The immensely popular Mikhail Saakashvili has won an easy victory in the Georgian elections with more than 96% of the vote to become the youngest president in Europe. The reasons for his popularity and political reactions to his win are looked at; and the changes he has proposed and obstacles facing him are discussed. His relations with Moscow over the issue of dispute over Russian bases are examined.
