Von Frey test was performed to evaluate mechanical withdrawal thresholds. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed to quantify BDNF level in CSF.Results: The 50% withdrawal thresholds of group T were lower than those of group C and group S at all measuring points except for the preoperative period (P = 0.026, < 0.001, and < 0.001 for POD1, POD7, and POD14, respectively). The BDNF level of group T was higher than those of group C and group S at POD1 (P = 0.005).Conclusion: Upregulation of the BDNF expression in CSF was observed in rats who developed mechanical allodynia on the day after TBI. Based on our findings, to elucidate the relationship between TBI-induced neuropathic pain and BDNF expression in CSF, further research should be carried out through a multifaceted approach to a broad spectrum of pain behavior models.Keywords: brain injuries, traumatic, brain injuries, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factors, neuralgia, models, animal

The objective of this study was to evaluate effectiveness of FMEA applied to an academic clinical trial center in a tertiary care setting.Methods: A multidisciplinary FMEA focus group at the Seoul National University Hospital Clinical Trials Center selected 6 core clinical trial processes, for which potential failure modes were identified and their risk priority number (RPN) was assessed. Remedial action plans for high-risk failure modes (RPN >160) were devised and a follow-up RPN scoring was conducted a year later.Results: A total of 114 failure modes were identified with an RPN score ranging 3–378, which was mainly driven by the severity score. Fourteen failure modes were of high risk, 11 of which were addressed by remedial actions. Rescoring showed a dramatic improvement attributed to reduction in the occurrence and detection scores by >3 and >2 points, respectively.Conclusions: FMEA is a powerful tool to improve quality in clinical trials. The Seoul National University Hospital Clinical Trials Center is expanding its FMEA capability to other core clinical trial processes. Abstract

Urban Land Surface Models (ULSMs) simulate energy and water exchanges between the urban surface and atmosphere. However, earlier systematic ULSM comparison projects assessed the energy balance but ignored the water balance, which is coupled to the energy balance. Here, we analyze the water balance representation in 19 ULSMs participating in the Urban‐PLUMBER project using results for 20 sites spread across a range of climates and urban form characteristics. As observations for most water fluxes are unavailable, we examine the water balance closure, flux timing, and magnitude with a score derived from seven indicators expecting better scoring models to capture the latent heat flux more accurately. We find that the water budget is only closed in 57% of the model‐site combinations assuming closure when annual total incoming fluxes (precipitation and irrigation) fluxes are within 3% of the outgoing (all other) fluxes. Results show the timing is better captured than magnitude. No ULSM has passed all water balance indicators for any site. Models passing more indicators do not capture the latent heat flux more accurately refuting our hypothesis. While output reporting inconsistencies may have negatively affected model performance, our results indicate models could be improved by explicitly verifying water balance closure and revising runoff parameterizations. By expanding ULSM evaluation to the water balance and related to latent heat flux performance, we demonstrate the benefits of evaluating processes with direct feedback mechanisms to the processes of interest. Plain Language Summary: Urban environments have their own local climates including typically higher nocturnal temperatures compared with rural areas. Ideally, modeling cities should capture their influences on the atmosphere above them. As the energy and water balances are linked by evaporation, a good water balance representation will support a good energy balance simulation. Focusing on the water balance, we find the water balance in models could be improved by paying attention to closure and runoff. Abstract

Accurately predicting weather and climate in cities is critical for safeguarding human health and strengthening urban resilience. Multimodel evaluations can lead to model improvements; however, there have been no major intercomparisons of urban‐focussed land surface models in over a decade. Here, in Phase 1 of the Urban‐PLUMBER project, we evaluate the ability of 30 land surface models to simulate surface energy fluxes critical to atmospheric meteorological and air quality simulations. We establish minimum and upper performance expectations for participating models using simple information‐limited models as benchmarks. Compared with the last major model intercomparison at the same site, we find broad improvement in the current cohort's predictions of short‐wave radiation, sensible and latent heat fluxes, but little or no improvement in long‐wave radiation and momentum fluxes. Models with a simple urban representation (e.g., ‘slab’ schemes) generally perform well, particularly when combined with sophisticated hydrological/vegetation models. Some mid‐complexity models (e.g., ‘canyon’ schemes) also perform well, indicating efforts to integrate vegetation and hydrology processes have paid dividends. The most complex models that resolve three‐dimensional interactions between buildings in general did not perform as well as other categories. However, these models also tended to have the simplest representations of hydrology and vegetation. Models without any urban representation (i.e., vegetation‐only land surface models) performed poorly for latent heat fluxes, and reasonably for other energy fluxes at this suburban site. Our analysis identified widespread human errors in initial submissions that substantially affected model performances. Abstract

The project was funded by a research grant from INSEAD and was also supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation under grant number 143411., In this crowdsourced initiative, independent analysts used the same dataset to test two hypotheses regarding the effects of scientists’ gender and professional status on verbosity during group meetings. Not only the analytic approach but also the operationalizations of key variables were left unconstrained and up to individual analysts. For instance, analysts could choose to operationalize status as job title, institutional ranking, citation counts, or some combination. To maximize transparency regarding the process by which analytic choices are made, the analysts used a platform we developed called DataExplained to justify both preferred and rejected analytic paths in real time. Analyses lacking sufficient detail, reproducible code, or with statistical errors were excluded, resulting in 29 analyses in the final sample. Researchers reported radically different analyses and dispersed empirical outcomes, in a number of cases obtaining significant effects in opposite directions for the same research question. A Boba multiverse analysis demonstrates that decisions about how to operationalize variables explain variability in outcomes above and beyond statistical choices (e.g., covariates). Subjective researcher decisions play a critical role in driving the reported empirical results, underscoring the need for open data, systematic robustness checks, and transparency regarding both analytic paths taken and not taken. 36th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 1000-1002, In the shingling module fabrication process, the conventional interconnection by tabbing processes are replaced several additional steps such as laser scribing, Electrically Conductive Adhesives(ECA) printing, mechanical cell cutting, Shingled String Assembler(SSA) and curing process. All the shingling processes, laser sciring process is the most important step to fabricate high quality shingled modules. Separation of a solar cell into strip-like is performed by laser scribing and subsequent mechanical breaking process. The first step of separating a solar cell is to form a intended crack at the setting position on the solar cell by using a diode-pumped laser, and then scribed solar cell is separated as several pieces by mechanical force. In this process, new edge of separated solar cell tends to be induced electrical losses such as shunting and recombination. In addition, incompletely separated strips can cause micro-cracks during mechanical breaking process, which can increase defect rate and decrease the string efficiency. In this work, laser scribing optimization with laser parameter variable was performed to minimize defect rate and power loss in shingling process. Variation of laser power, speed and number of scribing parameters have been carefully selected and scribed to minimize the damage to the solar cell at the backside. The I-V analysis of full-cells before and after scribing was performed according to laser parameter variation. The depth, kerf width and heat affected zone were analyzed by optical laser microscope. In conclusion, crucial factors for laser scribing to provide method for reducing solar cell damage by optimizing of laser scribing process was suggested.
