Multiple vaccine platforms have been employed to develop the nasal SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in preclinical studies, and the dominating pipelines are viral vectored as protein-based vaccines. Among them, several viral vectored-based vaccines have entered clinical development. Nevertheless, some unsatisfactory results were reported in these clinical studies. In the face of such urgent situations, it is imperative to rapidly develop the next-generation intranasal COVID-19 vaccine utilizing other technologies. Nanobased intranasal vaccines have emerged as an approach against respiratory infectious diseases. Harnessing the power of nanotechnology, these vaccines offer a noninvasive yet potent defense against pathogens, including the threat of COVID-19. The improvements made in vaccine mucosal delivery technologies based on nanoparticles, such as lipid nanoparticles, polymeric nanoparticles, inorganic nanoparticles etc., not only provide stability and controlled release but also enhance mucosal adhesion, effectively overcoming the limitations of conventional vaccines. Hence, in this review, we overview the evaluation of intranasal vaccine and highlight the current barriers. Next, the modern delivery systems based on nanoplatforms are summarized. The challenges in clinical application of nanoplatform based intranasal vaccine are finally discussed.

This article proposes a cascaded multilevel battery energy storage based parallel dynamic voltage compensator (DVC) for medium voltage industrial distribution systems. In this parallel DVC, fast switch is series-connected for voltage sag detection, and cascaded multilevel battery energy storage is parallel-connected for voltage support during the voltage sag period. According to the grid-side voltage sags or not, corresponding circuits and three-layer control strategies are developed. While the feedforward proportional–integral control method is adopted in the outer layer to track the ideal compensation voltage when the grid-side voltage sags, the ideal compensation current when the grid-side voltage does not sag is obtained through battery charging current as well as reactive power, harmonics, and negative sequence load current components. In order to cope with parameter differences in cascaded multilevel battery energy storage, the middle layer interphase and the inner layer intermodular state of charge equalization control are adopted in two scenarios. Furthermore, the parallel DVC is quantitatively compared with series DVC in the aspect of required battery capacity, and their advantages and disadvantages are systematically analyzed. Case studies are performed to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed methodology on voltage support.

In this article, we propose a centralized battery energy storage-based medium-voltage multiwinding dynamic voltage compensator (DVC) for balance and unbalance operations. In this topology, the compensation voltage is added to the grid side through the transformer, and the primary side of the transformer is shunted by multiple windings to support the voltage sag on the medium-voltage distribution systems. According to the symmetrical and asymmetrical grid-side voltage sags, the positive- and negative-sequence mathematical models of DVC as well as their voltage–current double closed-loop control strategies are developed. As for the dc bias caused by circulating current between the primary windings of each phase of the multiwinding transformer, circulating current suppression algorithm is added to the positive- and negative-sequence inner current loops. Simulation and experimental results are performed to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed methodology on voltage support.

In this article, the concept of fusion topology is proposed to tackle the development trend and control issue of hybrid parallel multiconverter applications and to achieve better performance in transient and steady-state operations. Compared to previously fixed frequency compensation strategies, data-driven finite-state machine (FSM) control can determine which voltage source converter (VSC) dominates the operation or whether two VSCs operate simultaneously rather than giving the specific target operation to each VSC alone. The results are verified by a real-time digital simulator (RTDS) with the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) experiments. The 20 kVA RTDS experimental results show that the transient time is shorter by 53.8%–85.7%, and power loss is smaller by 28.6%–78.3%, respectively, compared with the previous methods.
