Abstract

By using the chemically dealloying method, three-dimensional nano-porous silver films (3-D NPSFs) are fabricated into a novel sensor for detecting hydrogen peroxide. The precursor films are prepared by high vacuum magnetron co-sputtering. High-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) are taken to investigate the structure and the micro morphology of the precursor films and nano-porous films. We find that the precursor films are composed of glassy matrix and nanocrystallines. After dealloying, the films exhibit a combination of homogenously distributed pores and silver filaments, and exhibit an open, three dimensional bicontinuous interpenetrating ligament–channel structure. Thickness and morphology of the films can be easily controlled by the sputtering time and alloy composition of the precursor films, respectively. In addition, NPSFs show a good linear responding for the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in phosphate buffered solutions, which indicates NPSFs could be a promising electrochemical material for hydrogen peroxide detection.

39. Operando X-ray diffraction analysis of the degradation mechanisms of a spinel LiMn2O4cathode in different voltage windows

Abstract

The understanding of reaction mechanisms of electrode materials is of significant importance for the development of advanced batteries. The LiMn2O4cathode has a voltage plateau around 2.8 V (vs. Li+/Li), which can provide an additional capacity for Li storage, but it suffers from a severe capacity degradation. In this study, operando X-ray diffraction is carried out to investigate the structural evolutions and degradation mechanisms of LiMn2O4in different voltage ranges. In the range of 3.0–4.3 V (vs. Li+/Li), the LiMn2O4cathode exhibits a low capacity but good cycling stability with cycles up to 100 cycles and the charge/discharge processes are associated with the reversible extraction/insertion of Li+from/into LixMn2O4(0 ≤ x ≤ 1). In the range of 1.4–4.4 V (vs. Li+/Li), a capacity higher than 200 mAh/g is achieved, but it rapidly decays during the cycling. The voltage plateau around 2.8 V (vs. Li+/Li) is related to the transformation of the cubic LiMn2O4phase to the tetragonal Li2Mn2O4phase, which leads to the formation of cracks as well as the performance degradation.

47. Ab Initio Screening of Doped Mg(AlH 4 ) 2 Systems for Conversion-Type Lithium Storage.

Abstract

In this work, we have explored the potential applications of pure and various doped Mg(AlH 4 ) 2 as Li-ion battery conversion electrode materials using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Through the comparisons of the electrochemical specific capacity, the volume change, the average voltage, and the electronic bandgap, the Li-doped material is found to have a smaller bandgap and lower average voltage than the pure system. The theoretical specific capacity of the Li-doped material is 2547.64 mAhg -1 with a volume change of 3.76% involving the electrode conversion reaction. The underlying reason for property improvement has been analyzed by calculating the electronic structures. The strong hybridization between Lis-state with H s-state influences the performance of the doped material. This theoretical research is proposed to help the design and modification of better light-metal hydride materials for Li-ion battery conversion electrode applications.
