Abstract

The rational design and synthesis of high-performance catalysts for the conversion of biomass is crucial for practical applications, such as the production of high-value chemicals and fine products. In this study, we fabricated two catalysts (Co–N/C-400 and Co–N/C-500) made up of an isolated Co single atom (Co–N4) and a Co single atom together with Co nanoparticles (Con–CoNx) by a synthetic control method. Compared with the single Co–N4 sites, the dual Con–CoNx sites on Co–N/C-500 can significantly improve the hydrodeoxygenation efficiency of biomass-derived model compounds. Further computational calculations suggested that the dual sites on Co–N/C-500 work in synergy to lower the activation energy of each key meta-stable step, while it is hard to overcome the barrier of the deoxygenation reaction over Co single-atom sites on Co–N/C-400 during the consecutive hydrogenation process. This study provides valuable clues for developing efficient catalysts for the C＝O hydrogenation and C–O cleavage of biomass feedstocks and other consecutive reactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Converting CO2 into value-added chemicals over efficient and recyclable catalysts has attracted increasing attention. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have arisen as elegant heterogeneous catalysts for this subject. Herein, we report the synthesis of a crystalline 2,2′-bipyridine-based covalent organic framework bearing Cd single-atom sites (Cd-Bpy-COF) as a synergistic catalyst for the carboxylative cyclization under mild conditions with CO2 and propargylic amines. Periodically distributed bipyridine coordination units can anchor Cd single sites with high loading on the covalent organic framework, exposing large active surfaces to enhance the activity. The as-synthesized Cd-Bpy-COF exhibits excellent activity and outstanding stability for the carboxylative cyclization with CO2. Experimental and theoretical results demonstrate that the integration of COF framework and single Cd active sites remarkably boosts the adsorption and activation of CO2, and then promotes its following cyclization reaction. Abstract

By report, Z‐scheme heterojunction can markedly improve the photocatalytic performance of semiconductor materials. Thus, we rationally designed and successfully prepared α‐Fe2O3/g‐C3N4/covalent organic framework (COF) ternary photocatalyst with double Z‐scheme heterojunctions. XRD, FT‐IR, and TEM characterized results demonstrated its successful construction. Further characterization results revealed that the existing double Z‐scheme heterojunctions endow the material with superior photoelectric properties and realize the synergy among the three components, thus achieving the excellent separation of photo‐generated carriers. Consequently, it exhibited excellent performance in the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline (TC). Therefore, the double Z‐scheme heterojunction strategy proposed in this study established a promising approach for constructing high‐efficiency photocatalysts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
