8. Boosting Entrepreneurial Intentions among Potential TVET Entrepreneurs of Higher Education Institutes

Abstract

Purpose: In this study, we aim to investigate entrepreneurial intention (EI) among potential entrepreneurs who were students at Pakistan's higher education institutes (HEIs) of technical and vocational education and training (TVET). Design/methodology/approach: We used a quantitative and correlational method in this study, and we based its theoretical framework on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the entrepreneurial event model (EEM). We based this study's findings on 367 samples collected from Pakistan's HEI TVET students who were potential entrepreneurs. Findings: By employing path analysis, the findings reveal that TPB constructs, such as personal attitudes (PA), subjective norms (SN) and perceived behavioral control (PBC), have a positive and significant effect on EI. The findings show, also, that EEM constructs, such as perceived desirability (PD), perceived feasibility (PF) and propensity to act (PT) are positive and significant predictors of EI. Moreover, self-efficacy (SE) and the quality of TVET (QTT) positively and significantly affect EI. Practical implications: This study's findings support the improvement of Pakistan's HEIs in developing TVET to enhance individuals' skills and, ultimately, to create employment and socioeconomic circumstances. They also assist Pakistan's HEIs in developing EI among their TVET potential entrepreneurs to ensure that they are sufficiently equipped for the job markets. Originality/value: This study's findings empirically confirm that TPB, EEM, SE and the QTT provide an integrated path for Pakistan's entrepreneurs.

32. Attitudes and Intentions towards the Adoption of Mobile Learning during COVID-19: Building an Exciting Career through Vocational Education

Abstract

Purpose: Mobile learning has emerged as one of the main methods for training and academic activities in the present era. It is, also, highly relevant in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic whereupon digitization of mobile learning has made it possible for many students to continue with their education. This study investigated attitudes and intentions towards the adoption of mobile learning in vocational education. Design/methodology/approach: This is a quantitative study based on cross-sectional empirical data. In targeting vocational students throughout Pakistan, the study used a survey questionnaire with a convenience sampling method. From the responses to the questionnaire, 320 samples were used to obtain the study outcomes. Findings: The structural equation modeling's (SEM) findings reveal that learning autonomy (LA), mobile device self-efficacy (MDSE), task-technology fit (TTF), perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PUS) and perceived enjoyment (PE) have a positive and significant effect on mobile usage attitudes (MUA) and intentions to adopt mobile learning (ITAML). Moreover, this study's findings confirm, also, MUA's predictive power on ITAML. Practical implications: Further, this study's findings encourage individuals to use mobile devices to properly promote knowledge in society. In addition, this study's findings support vocational institutions' operators' and policymakers' development of online education and training strategies to resist the complications arising from the transmission of COVID-19. Moreover, this study's findings open new doors when conducting similar research studies on students' perceptions and learning behaviors. Originality/value: The empirical investigation of attitudes and intentions to adopt mobile learning in the context of COVID-19 helps potential adopters to test the likely behaviors.

33. Personality Traits and Conflict Management Styles via Job Performance in Higher Education

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the direct and indirect relationships between Personality Traits (PTs) and Conflict Management Styles (CMSs) through Job Performance (JP) in Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach: This is a quantitative study that employed a survey questionnaire to collect cross-sectional data from academic leaders of Pakistan's Higher Education Institutes (HEIs). The researchers derived this study's findings from 320 useable responses. Findings: The authors used a Structural Equation Model (SEM) which shows a positive and significant effect of agreeableness on Integrating Styles (IS), Avoiding Styles (AS), Obliging Styles (OS), Compromising Styles (CS) and Dominating Styles (DS). Extraversion has a positive and significant effect on IS, OS, DS and CS. Emotional Stability (ES) is the positive and significant predictor of IS, AS, OS and CS. The conscientiousness trait has a positive and significant effect in predicting IS, OS, DS, CS and AS. Likewise, openness has a positive and significant effect on IS, OS, DS and CS. On the other hand, extraversion and openness have a negative and insignificant effect on AS. Finally, amongst HEIs' academic leaders ES is the negative and insignificant predictor of DS. Practical implications: This study's findings offer additional insights into understanding the direct and indirect connections between PTs and CMSs through JP. These support the development of effective policies and organizational arrangements to resolve and manage conflict and employee behaviours. Finally, through another contribution of empirical evidence, these findings further enrich the worth of the literature. Originality/value: This study's findings provide both, directly and indirectly, the original contributions of Pakistan's HEIs' academic leaders PTs and CMSs.

34. Leading towards the Students' Career Development and Career Intentions through Using Multidimensional Soft Skills in the Digital Age

Abstract

Purpose: In the digital age, the development of students' career intentions requires serious concentration since these are associated with the students' future employment and, ultimately, their survival. This study attempted to demonstrate in Pakistan's Higher Educational Institutes ("HEIs") the role of soft skills towards the students' career development ("CD") and their future career intentions ("CI"). Design/methodology/approach: In this study, the researchers used a quantitative approach and a questionnaire to collect the data from the surveyed participants. Finally, the researchers based this study's findings on 392 useable samples. Findings: By employing the structural equation model ("SEM"), this study's findings show that soft skills, such as Creative Self-Efficacy ("CSE"), Problem-Solving Confidence ("PSC") and Teamwork ("TW") have a positive and significant effect on "CD" and "CI." However, while Critical thinking and Creativity ("CRC") has a positive and significant effect on "CD," it has no effect on "CI." In addition, this study's findings confirm, also, that "CD" has a positive and significant effect on "CI." Practical implications: This study's findings assist policymakers and university administrators to understand the importance of soft skills in creating "CD" and "CI." These promote the development of employability skills and fulfill its part in preparing graduates for the unpredictable job market. This study's findings help, also, to develop logical reasoning in making decisions and in dealing with complex organizational issues. Originality/value: In a practical way, in Pakistan, this study's findings confirm the role of soft skills towards students' "CD" and "CI."
