Abstract

In modern agriculture, usually weeds control consists in spraying herbicides all over the agricultural field. This practice involves significant waste and cost of herbicide for farmers and environmental pollution. One way to reduce the cost and environmental impact is to allocate the right doses of herbicide at the right place and at the right time (Precision Agriculture). Nowadays, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is becoming an interesting acquisition system for weeds localization and management due to its ability to obtain the images of the entire agricultural field with a very high spatial resolution and at low cost. Despite the important advances in UAV acquisition systems, automatic weeds detection remains a challenging problem because of its strong similarity with the crops. Recently Deep Learning approach has shown impressive results in different complex classification problem. However, this approach needs a certain amount of training data but, creating large agricultural datasets with pixel-level annotations by expert is an extremely time consuming task. In this paper, we propose a novel fully automatic learning method using Convolutional Neuronal Networks (CNNs) with unsupervised training dataset collection for weeds detection from UAV images. The proposed method consists in three main phases. First we automatically detect the crop lines and using them to identify the interline weeds. In the second phase, interline weeds are used to constitute the training dataset. Finally, we performed CNNs on this dataset to build a model able to detect the crop and weeds in the images. The results obtained are comparable to the traditional supervised training data labeling. The accuracy gaps are 1.5% in the spinach field and 6% in the bean field.

Contexte: L’étude de la diversité et la Dynamique Saisonnière des tiques ont été effectuée entre Janvier et Décembre 2018 dans les sites et milieux écologiques (Abattoir et Parc de bovins) dans la Préfecture de Kindia (République de Guinée).Méthode: Ont servi pour l’identification des tiques, les clés pour l’identification des tiques du Cameroun, le microscope binoculaire/loupe. La collecte dépendait de l’aire de distribution, leur densité, leur habitat et leurs conditions environnementales.Résultats: Un total de 2274 tiques relevant de 4 genres (Amblyomma, Rhipicephalus, Hyalomma, Haemaphisalis) et 8 espèces: Amblyomma-variegatum, Amblyomma splenditum, Rhipicephalus geiggi, Rhipicephalus annulatus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Rhipicephalus sulcatus, Haemaphisalis leichii-leichii et Hyalomma truncatum.Les plus répandues en saison pluvieuse sont les: Amblyomma-variegatum (69,04%), Rhipicephalus geiggi (27,83%) et en saison sèche, Hyalomma truncatum reste et demeure la moins rencontrée dans la préfecture de Kindia. Le plus grand nombre de tiques se rencontrait en saison pluvieuse avec 1409 soit (61,95%) contre 865 (38,03%) en saison sèche.Ce présent travail, a pour objectif de: contribuer à l’amélioration de l’état de santé animale en République de Guinée. The collection depended on the area of distribution, the density, the habitat and environmental conditions.Results: A total of 2274 ticks belonging to 4 genera (Amblyomma, Rhipicephalus, Hyalomma, Haemaphisalis) and 8 species: Amblyomma-variegatum, Amblyomma splenditum, Rhipicephalus geiggi, Rhipicephalus annulatus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Rhipicephalus sulcatus, Haemaphisalis leichii-leichii and Hyalomma truncatum.The most widespread in the rainy season are: Amblyomma-variegatum (69.04%), Rhipicephalus geiggi (27.83%) and in the dry season, Hyalomma truncatum remains and is the least encountered in Kindia Prefecture. The greatest number of ticks was found in the rainy season with 1409 (61.95%) against 865 (38.03%) in the dry season.The objective of this work is: to contribute to the improvement of the state of animal health in the Republic of Guinea.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: As The Gambia aims to achieve malaria elimination by 2030, serological assays are a useful surveillance tool to monitor trends in malaria incidence and evaluate community-based interventions. METHODS: Within a mass drug administration (MDA) study in The Gambia, where reduced malaria infection and clinical disease were observed after the intervention, a serological sub-study was conducted in four study villages. Spatio-temporal variation in transmission was measured with a panel of recombinant Pf antigens on a multiplexed bead-based assay. Village-level antibody levels were quantified as under-15 sero-prevalence, sero-conversion rates, and age-adjusted antibody acquisition rates. Antibody levels prior to MDA were assessed for association with persistent malaria infection after community chemoprophylaxis. RESULTS: Seasonal changes in antibodies to Etramp5.Ag1 were observed in children under 15 years in two transmission settings-the West Coast and Upper River Regions (4.32% and 31.30% Pf prevalence, respectively). At the end of the malaria season, short-lived antibody responses to Etramp5.Ag1, GEXP18, HSP40.Ag1, EBA175 RIII-V, and Rh2.2030 were lower amongst 1-15 year olds in the West Coast compared to the Upper River, reflecting known differences in transmission. Prior to MDA, individuals in the top 50th percentile of antibody levels had two-fold higher odds of clinical malaria during the transmission season, consistent with previous findings from the Malaria Transmission Dynamics Study, where individuals infected before the implementation of MDA had two-fold higher odds of re-infection post-MDA. CONCLUSIONS: Serological markers can serve dual functions as indicators of malaria exposure and incidence. By monitoring age-specific sero-prevalence, the magnitude of age-stratified antibody levels, or identifying groups of individuals with above-average antibody responses, these antigens have the potential to complement conventional malaria surveillance tools. Abstract

BACKGROUND: As malaria transmission declines, sensitive diagnostics are needed to evaluate interventions and monitor transmission. Serological assays measuring malaria antibody responses offer a cost-effective detection method to supplement existing surveillance tools. METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted from 2013 to 2015 in 12 villages across five administrative regions in The Gambia. Serological analysis included samples from the West Coast Region at the start and end of the season (July and December 2013) and from the Upper River Region in July and December 2013 and April and December 2014. Antigen-specific antibody responses to eight Plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum) antigens-Etramp5.Ag1, GEXP18, HSP40.Ag1, Rh2.2030, EBA175 RIII-V, PfMSP119, PfAMA1, and PfGLURP.R2-were quantified using a multiplexed bead-based assay. The association between antibody responses and clinical and parasitological endpoints was estimated at the individual, household, and population level. RESULTS: Strong associations were observed between clinical malaria and concurrent sero-positivity to Etramp5.Ag1 (aOR 4.60 95% CI 2.98-7.12), PfMSP119 (aOR 4.09 95% CI 2.60-6.44), PfAMA1 (aOR 2.32 95% CI 1.40-3.85), and PfGLURP.R2 (aOR 3.12, 95% CI 2.92-4.95), while asymptomatic infection was associated with sero-positivity to all antigens. Village-level sero-prevalence amongst children 2-10 years against Etramp5.Ag1, HSP40.Ag1, and PfMSP119 showed the highest correlations with clinical and P. falciparum infection incidence rates. For all antigens, there were increased odds of asymptomatic P. falciparum infection in subjects residing in a compound with greater than 50% sero-prevalence, with a 2- to 3-fold increase in odds of infection associated with Etramp5.Ag1, GEXP18, Rh2.2030, PfMSP119, and PfAMA1. Abstract

L’objectif de ce travail était d’analyser les résultats de la prise en charge diagnostique et thérapeutique des cancers de l’estomac à l’unité de chirurgie oncologique de Donka. Il s’agissait d’une étude observationnelle, rétrospective de type descriptif de 2007 à 2016. Le profil épidémiologique, les aspects anatomocliniques, le diagnostic, le bilan d’extension et les modalités thérapeutiques ont été décrits et analysés. Nous avons colligé 41 patients avec un âge moyen de 53,8 ans. Le sexratio était de 1,7. Les patients avaient consulté pour épigastralgie (85,4%), vomissements (75,6%) et anorexie (26,8%) avec un délai de consultation de 15,8 mois. Une masse épigastrique (61,0%), l’hépatomégalie (46,3%) et une ascite (31,7%) étaients présents. L’aspect endoscopique était bourgeonnant (37,5%) et dans 50,0%, le siège était antral. Ils’agissait d’adénocarcinome (18 cas), de carcinomes gastriques (9 cas), de dysplasie de haut grade (1 cas) et de tumeur stromale gastro-intestinale (GIST) (1 cas). Les métastases étaient présentes dans 27 cas (65,8%). Le traitement chirurgical a été réalisé chez 20 patients (48,8%) avec un taux de résécabilité de 55 % (11 cas). La gastrectomie des 4⁄5 avec curage de type D2 a été réalisée dans 18 cas (72,2%).La mortalité opératoire était de 2 cas(7,4%). Dix patients (24,4%) ont été l’objet d’un traitement adjuvant dont 9 par chimiothérapie et 1 par radiothérapie.Les patients ont été suivis avec un délai moyen de 43,8±8,6 mois [IC95% 27,0-60,0] au cours duquel 4 récidives (9,7%) et 32 décès (78%) ont été enregistrés. Le cancer de l’estomac est fréquent et de diagnostic tardif dans notre contexte. Le traitement chirurgical des formes précoces et la chimiothérapie périopératoire permettent d’améliorer le pronostic de ces cancers. Mots clés : cancers, estomac, diagnostic, traitement, Conakry. Surgical treatment was performed in 20 patients with a resectability rate of 55% (11 cases). Gastrectomy of 4/5 with D2- type dissection was performed in 18 cases(72.2%) and the operative mortality was 2 cases (7.4%). Ten patients (24.4%) received adjuvant therapy, 9 with chemotherapy and 1 with radiotherapy. Patients were followed after a mean delay of 43.8 ± 8.6 months [95% CI 27.0-60 , 0] in which 4 recurrences (9.7%) and 32 deaths (78.04%) were recorded. Stomach cancer is common and of late diagnosisin our context. Surgical treatment of early forms and perioperative chemotherapy could improve the prognosis of these cancers. 43. Sprinkler flow rate affects physiological, behavioural and production responses of Holstein cows during heat stress.

Abstract

Heat stress is a major challenge for dairy cows in summer. Sprinklers at feed bunks are commonly used to cool cows. These sprinklers use groundwater, which is becoming limited. There is a need to explore a more efficient use of this precious resource. Eighteen lactating Holstein cows were randomly subjected to three sprinkler flow rates in a crossover design. These rates were 0.5, 1.25, and 2.0 L/min. The average temperature humidity index of the shed was 86.7 during the study. The cows in the 1.25 and 2.0 L/min groups had 0.6 °C and 0.9 °C lower rectal temperatures, respectively, than the 0.5 L/min group. Similarly, the 1.25 and 2.0 L/min groups had lower respiration rates than the 0.5 L/min group. The daily milk yield was approximately 5 kg/d higher in the 1.25 and 2.0 L/min groups, which were not detectably different from each other, than the 0.5 L/min group. The cows in the 0.5 L/min group spent less time feeding than those in the 1.25 and 2.0 L/min groups. These results suggested that sprinkler flow rates greater than 0.5 L/min produced desirable responses by the cows. The flow rate 1.25 L/min appeared to be more efficient as it used 37.5% less groundwater compared with 2.0 L/min. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
