4. Comparing Troponin I Level between Women with Preeclampsia and Gestational Hypertension and Pregnant Women with Normal Blood Pressure

Abstract

Background and purpose: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are still one of the major issues in obstetrics. So far, few studies are conducted on the troponin I level of pregnant women and preeclampsia but their results are not conclusive. In this study the troponin levels were compared between patients with severe preeclampsia, mild preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, and normal blood pressure. Materials and methods: A case control study was conducted in four groups of pregnant women (n=35 per group) with severe preeclampsia, mild preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, and normal blood pressure attending Kosar Center, Qazvin, Iran 2014-2015. The troponin I level in the groups were studied. Data was analyzed in SPSS V.19 applying ANOVA, Chi-square, and T-test. Results: The mean age of patients was 29.1±6.6. The level of troponin was lower than 0.01 ng/ml in patients with severe preeclampsia, mild preeclampsia, gestational hypertension and normal blood pressure. But in one case with severe preeclampsia this level was 0.15. The findings indicated no significant difference between the groups (P=0.4) Conclusion: The level of troponin was not different in patients with severe preeclampsia, mild preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, and normal blood pressure.

5. A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial to Evaluate Isosorbide Mononitrate (IMN) Efficiency for Cervical Ripening Prior to Labor Induction in Iranian Pregnant Women

Abstract

Our aim was to examine the effect and cost-effectiveness of isosorbide mononitrate (IMN) for outpatient (at home) cervical ripening in Iranian women with term pregnancy. Term pregnant women were randomly selected to receive either 15 mg vaginally administered IMN or placebo. Patients were advised to take the second dose at home 24 h later and return to the hospital for admission after the next 24 h if the onset of spontaneous contraction does not occur. Cervical status, maternal blood pressure, maternal pulse rate, fetal heart rate and various side effects were examined. IMN induced a significant increase in cervical Bishop Score; headache, nausea, and dizziness were seen in 8 of 28 participants of IMN group; although, all had normal vital signs and normal FHR, they had to be hospitalized and receive medication to relieve the unpleasant symptoms. Vaginal administration of 15 mg of IMN induced cervical ripening in term pregnant women. However, the administration of IMN for cervical ripening is not recommended as it produced headache in significant number of Iranian pregnant women.

6. Zinc oxide/barite nanocomposite from Trachyspermum ammiplant extract: A novel agent against protoscolices of Echinococcusgranulosus

Abstract

Hydatid disease is a shared illness between humans and livestock that impacts the health of both humans and animals, and it also presents considerable risks to the global economy. The current study aims to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) and zinc oxide/barite nanocomposites (ZnO/Brt NC) modified with chitosan (ZnO/Brt/Chit NC), using aqueous extract of the Trachyspermum ammiplant and a chemical method. The scolicidal effect, IC50, and mRNA expression of the caspase-3gene on protoscolices were measured using Real-time PCR to identify nanomaterials (NMs) with superior biological efficacy against hydatid cyst protoscolices. The characteristics of these NMs were examined using techniques such as XRD, FTIR, FE-SEM, EDS, DLS, ZP, and PDI. Colloidal sizes for ZnO NPs, ZnO/Brt NC, and ZnO/Brt/Chit NC synthesized via the green method, and ZnO/Brt NC and chemically-synthesized ZnO/Brt/Chit NC were found to be 28.18, 68.10, 106.60, 85.90, and 165.60 nm, respectively. These NCs, which possess crystalline structures and spherical morphology, have been stabilized on a barite substrate. The zeta potential obtained for the green-synthesized NCs is −22.80 mV, and for those synthesized chemically, it is −19.70 mV. Results indicate that ZnO NPs and green-synthesized ZnO/Brt NC have the strongest scolicidal effect. At a concentration of 200 mg/mL, ZnO NPs achieved 100 % lethality in 60 min and ZnO/Brt NC in 30 min. The IC50values for ZnO NPs and ZnO/Brt NC were 858.3 and 1205 μg/mL, respectively. In contrast, chemically-synthesized and chitosan-modified NCs showed a weaker scolicidal effect. At a concentration of 0.5 mg/mL, a significant increase in caspase-3gene expression was observed for ZnO NPs (6.66 ± 0.94), (p = 0.003) and green-synthesized ZnO/Brt NC (5.06 ± 1.27), (p = 0.02), suggesting these NMs could be effective scolicidal agents In vivoconditions.
