Objective: Present study is undertaken to understand genesis of variability in QTC interval in healthy subjects as per age, sex and weight parameters and planning preventive measures for any abnormal findings. Materials and methods: 315 healthy normotensive healthy subjects (male=179, female=136) in age group of 0 to 51 years and above were selected for the study. After recording anthropometric parameters ECG was recorded in supine position in standard limb leads with paper speed of 25 mm/sec. All ECG records were analysed for rate, rhythm, waves (P, Q, R, S, T) and intervals (PR, QRS, ST, QT) in all leads. The QT interval was measured from the beginning of the QRS complex to the end of the T-wave in lead II, corrected QT (QTC) interval was calculated by using Bazett

Objective: To determine SI index in normotensive and hypertensive individual to asses any correlation in hypertensive individuals. Material and Methods: Systolic and diastolic blood pressures were determined in normotensive (n=104) and hypertensive (i.e. treated hypertensive (n=76) and non-treated (n=32)) subjects in supine position. Shock Index (SI) was determined as the ratio of Heart Rate/ Systolic Blood Pressure and normal value was considered in the range of 0.5-0.7. Recorded data was analyzed between two groups by applying unpaired t- test. The P values less than 0.05 (P 0.05) were considered as statistically significant. To find out relationship between blood pressure and shock index in different study groups Pearson correlation coefficient was determined. Results: Values of shock index were found higher in normotensive as compared to values recorded in treated hypertensive and non-treated hypertensive group. Non treated hypertensive group recorded higher values of shock index than treated hypertensive group. Conclusions: The accepted value of shock index is generally considered in the range from 0.5 to 0.7.The value in this range indicated hemodynamic stability in the study groups, since SI were not > 0.9 or 0.5 which were considered as an independent predictor in previous studies for the mortality of emergency patients .To consider importance of SI index in hypertensive prospective studies are needed to confirm the result.

Objective: To study the effect of isometric hand grip exercise at 20% on normotensive, treated hypertensive, and non treated hypertensive in supine position, and at 300 and 600 head up tilt. Material and Methods: After recording heart rate in supine position, isometric hand grip exercise at 20% was conducted for 2 minutes with dominant hand and heart rate was recorded for 1 minute in all subjects after end of the exercise. The same maneuver was repeated before head up tilt in supine position and during head up tilt (300 and 600) in normotensive (n=104), treated hypertensive (n=76), and non treated (n=32) hypertensive individuals. Result: Isometric hand grip exercise at 20% resulted in mild increase in heart rate which was within normal limits of heart rate in all study groups. Similarly decrease in heart rate was observed in the some of the age groups. Conclusion: Isometric hand grip exercise at 20% caused marginal increase in heart rate in all study groups which was recorded within normal physiological range with decreased sympathetic stimulation and vagal modulation caused by isometric handgrip training.

Background: Effects of pranayam are well known to affect various physiological parameters. Practice of pranayam helps to improve pulmonary functions and motor skills. Aim: It is planned to study the effect of pranayam (Anulom-Vilom and Kapalbhati) on pulmonary functions tests and visual reaction time in healthy individuals. Materials: Thirty (n=30) healthy participants between age group of 20-50 years were selected from Loni and surrounding area. These individuals were not suffering from any major disease related with cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous system and any chronic illness. Methods: All participants underwent pranayam training for three months. Pulmonary function tests were recorded before and during pranayam practice. Visual reaction time was recorded before and after pranayama training. Conclusion: In present study, it is concluded that, practice of pranayam as per study protocol improves PFT and VRT in healthy individuals. Also emphasize improvement in sensory and motor skills.
