With the development of production processes over the last decades, machine tools have evolved, and in everyday life today it is impossible not to visualize the new facilities arising from technological developments, such as IoT (Internet of Things) systems. Because they are so relevant, they have become a competitive differential in all markets and will not be different in the transformation industry or in its operational areas. Estimating when any machine will fail beforehand is fundamental to maximizing the company's results and consequently minimizing operating costs. In this sense, this research aimed to develop an IoT system for the online management of machine tool spindles in operation and to provide reliable data for maintenance management in the context of Industry 4.0 (I4.0). The development of the system took place through the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology. Thus, with the systematic review of the literature, the artifact/theoretical system of the method type for online monitoring of spindles in operation was developed, and its implementation was demonstrated and validated via a case study with participant observation in an automotive industry. The main contributions of the research are the artifact/system developed and validated and the associated predictive maintenance method. With the artifact, the normal behavior of the spindles in operation is demonstrated, contributing both to the academy field and to the practice in the industry, in the sense of advancing knowledge and preventing catastrophic failures in machine tools.

Examine the epidemiology of subspecialty physical abuse evaluations within CAPNET, a multicenter child abuse pediatrics research network.We conducted a cross-sectional study of children10 years old who underwent an evaluation (in-person or remote) by a child abuse pediatrician (CAP) due to concerns for physical abuse at ten CAPNET hospital systems from February 2021 through December 2021.Among 3667 patients with 3721 encounters, 69.4% were3 years old; 44.3%1 year old, 59.1% male; 27.1% Black; 57.8% White, 17.0% Hispanic; and 71.0 % had public insurance. The highest level of care was outpatient/emergency department in 60.7%, inpatient unit in 28.0% and intensive care in 11.4%. CAPS performed 79.1% in-person consultations and 20.9% remote consultations. Overall, the most frequent injuries were bruises (35.2%), fractures (29.0%), and traumatic brain injuries (TBI) (16.2%). Abdominal (1.2%) and spine injuries (1.6%) were uncommon. TBI was diagnosed in 30.6% of infants but only 8.4% of 1-year old children. In 68.2% of cases a report to child protective services (CPS) was made prior to CAP consultation; in 12.4% a report was made after CAP consultation. CAPs reported no concern for abuse in 43.0% of cases and mild / intermediate concern in 22.3%. Only 14.2% were categorized as definite abuse.Most children in CAPNET were3 years old with bruises, fractures, or intracranial injuries. CPS reports were frequently made prior to CAP consultation. CAPs had a low level of concern for abuse in majority of cases.

Considering the technological development, and particularly the global pandemic of COVID-19, it is essential to align universities and companies as agents in the transformation of society. However, a portion of academic research results does not find application in the productive sector. To better understand such (dis)connection, this study aims to verify in the scientific literature the critical success factors proper to the collaboration between universities and companies. Therefore, a bibliographic survey was carried out in the Scopus and Web of Science databases, considering the period 2000-2020 as temporality. From a quantitative point of view, a bibliometric analysis is presented regarding the year of publication, origin, thematic categories, authorship and co-citation networks, and with a qualitative character, through content analysis, critical factors were identified, with emphasis on trust, commitment, assumption of risks, realistic and well-defined objectives, managerial engagement of project coordinators, university reputation, previous experience in collaboration, communication and organizational culture. Dado el desarrollo tecnológico, y particularmente por la pandemia global del COVID-19, es fundamental alinear a las universidades y empresas como agentes en la transformación de la sociedad. Sin embargo, en una parte de los resultados de las investigaciones académicas no existe una aplicación inmediata en el sector productivo. Para comprender mejor esta (des) conexión, este estudio tiene como objetivo verificar en la literatura científica los factores críticos de éxito inherentes a la colaboración entre universidades y empresas. Por ello, se realizó un relevamiento bibliográfico en las bases de datos Scopus y Web of Science, considerando el período 2000-2020 como temporalidad. Desde una perspectiva cuantitativa, se presenta un análisis bibliométrico en cuanto al año de publicación, origen, categorías temáticas, autoría y redes de cocitación y, con carácter cualitativo, mediante análisis de contenido, se identificaron factores críticos, con énfasis en la confianza, el compromiso, la asunción de riesgos. , objetivos realistas y bien definidos, compromiso gerencial de los coordinadores de proyectos, reputación universitaria, experiencia previa en colaboración, comunicación y cultura organizacional. Diante do desenvolvimento tecnológico, e particularmente por conta da pandemia global de COVID-19, é fundamental o alinhamento entre universidades e empresas como agentes nas transformações da sociedade. No entanto, em uma parcela dos resultados das pesquisas acadêmicas não se encontra aplicação imediata no setor produtivo. Para melhor entender esta (des)conexão, este estudo tem por objetivo verificar na literatura científica os fatores críticos de sucesso inerentes à colaboração entre universidades e empresas. Portanto, foi realizado levantamento bibliográfico nas bases de dados Scopus e Web of Science, considerando como temporalidade o período 2000-2020. Sob a ótica quantitativa, é apresentada análise bibliométrica quanto ao ano de publicação, origem, categorias temáticas, autoria e redes de cocitação e, com caráter qualitativo, por meio da análise de conteúdo foram identificados fatores críticos, com destaque para confiança, comprometimento, assunção de riscos, objetivos realísticos e bem definidos, engajamento gerencial dos coordenadores de projeto, reputação da universidade, experiência anterior em colaboração, comunicação e cultura organizacional.

Knowing when there will be the previous failure of any machine is fundamental for the maximization of the company's results and consequently the minimization of operational costs. This research aimed to evaluate a proposal for a IoT (internet of things) system for online management of spindles in operation, to provide reliable data for maintenance management in the context of industry 4.0. The evaluation of the application of the method-type artifact in an automotive industry took place through design science research, which was defined as a research method. Thus, a artifact was developed through the systematic review of the literature and a proposal was created for the implementation of an online monitoring system in spindles, which was demonstrated and evaluated arriving at the validation of the method-type artifact in the automotive industry. The results of this application contribute theoretically with an extensive systematic review of the literature, with the models and methods applied besides developing a method-type artifact that can be used as a tool for the implementation of the 4.0 industry with the delivery of a detailed planning. In addition, the normal behavior of the spindle in operation is demonstrated, contributing to both academia and industry in the sense of advancing knowledge and preventing catastrophic failures. It is possible to mention the future works arising from the research are related to another important concept of I 4.0, which is the artificial intelligence to perform prognostics in addition, obviously, to the replication of the study in different models of machine tools Com o desenvolvimento dos processos produtivos ao longo das últimas décadas, as máquinas-ferramentas foram evoluindo e hoje é impossível não visualizar no dia-a-dia as novas facilidades oriundas das evoluções tecnológicas, a mais atual, chamada de Quarta Revolução Industrial ou Indústria 4.0 (I 4.0). Por ser algo tão relevante, se tornou um diferencial competitivo em todos os mercados e não será diferente na indústria nem tão pouco em suas áreas operacionais. Estimar quando haverá a falha prévia de qualquer máquina é fundamental para a maximização dos resultados da companhia e consequentemente a minimização dos custos operacionais. Neste sentido, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo propor um sistema IoT (internet das coisas) para gerenciamento online de spindles em operação, para prover dados confiáveis para a gestão da manutenção no contexto da indústria 4.0. A avaliação da aplicação do artefato em uma indústria automotiva se deu por meio do método design science research, a qual foi definida como método de pesquisa. Desta forma, foi desenvolvido um artefato do tipo método através da revisão sistemática da literatura e criado uma proposta para implementação de um sistema de monitoramento online em spindles o qual foi demonstrado e avaliado chegando-se à validação do artefato tipo método na indústria automotiva. Os resultados desta pesquisa contribuem teoricamente com uma extensa revisão sistemática da literatura, com os modelos e métodos aplicados além de desenvolver um artefato do tipo método que pode ser utilizado como instrumento para implantação da indústria 4.0 com a entrega de um planejamento detalhado. Além disso, é demonstrado o comportamento normal do spindle em operação contribuindo tanto para academia como para indústria, no sentido de avanço do conhecimento e prevenção de falhas catastróficas. Pode-se mencionar os trabalhos futuros oriundos da pesquisa que estão relacionados a outro importante conceito da I 4.0, que é a inteligência artificial para realização de prognósticos além, obviamente da replicação do estudo em modelos diferentes de máquinasferramentas.

Objective: This article aims to present a case study of the application of an online monitoring system for spindles in a furniture industry, analyzing the benefits to predictive maintenance and business. Methodology/approach: A literature review was carried out followed by a case study Originality/Relevance: Focusing the development of maintenance techniques, especially predictive maintenance and those supported by enabling technologies from Industry 4.0, such as Internet of Things (IoT), it may be possible to carry out online monitoring of spindles with a focus on reducing catastrophic or unplanned events. Main results: The main results are to know the normal behavior of the machine, the possibility of obtaining information in real time, managerial data for sight management, and the possibility of identifying spindle failure before it becomes a catastrophic failure, thus reducing the costs of maintaining the spindles. Theoretical contributions: As a contribution, we discuss the development of the system to digitize the data through the operation available in an outsourced cloud environment. This data can then be returned to the company in the form of dashboards for cash management, developing agility in decision making to facilitate the predictive maintenance in addition to validating the online monitoring system for spindle management in furniture industry processes.

Background Laboratory evaluation is commonly integrated into evaluation of children with suspected physical abuse to identify occult injury and potential mimics of abuse, including hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). We evaluated the utility of ferritin in laboratory screening panels for physical abuse. Objective(s) To determine if hyperferritinemia is a useful screening marker of HLH in physical abuse diagnostic evaluations. Participants and setting Children being evaluated for physical abuse at a quaternary pediatric referral and level one trauma center in Houston, Texas. Methods We conducted a 12-year (2003 – 2015) retrospective descriptive analysis of all ferritin values obtained as part of routine screening panels for physical child abuse. Medical records were abstracted for patients with ferritin > 500 ng/mL. Results 2954 ferritin levels were obtained in 3091 encounters for suspected physical abuse (median age 6.5 months, interquartile range 2.3–23.5 months). Elevated ferritin was found in 82/2954 (2.8 %); no child evaluated for physical abuse was found to have HLH (95 % CI: 0–4.5%). The child abuse team was consulted in 48/82 (58.5 %) of cases, with the final impression being physical abuse in 33/48 (68.8 %). Conclusions We found no instances where HLH was identified by institutional screening panels. The inclusion of ferritin in the screening panel was not beneficial. The presence of hyperferritinemia should not cast medical or legal doubt on physical abuse diagnoses when there is a high index of clinical suspicion. Novel hypotheses from case reports and case series should be studied more rigorously before affecting system change.

This study's purpose is to evaluate whether bone speed of sound (SOS) data, a parameter of quantitative ultrasound, collected from an infant autopsy sample are comparable to data collected from healthy, living infants. We hypothesize that SOS values obtained from deceased term-born infants will fall within the normal range for healthy, living infants. The study sample consists of 351 deceased infants between the ages of 30 weeks gestation at birth to 1 year postnatal at the time of death receiving autopsies at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences or Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, TX. Various multivariate and univariate statistics were used to examine the relationship between SOS and age, prematurity, and chronic illness. The results of an ANOVA comparing the study sample data to published data from healthy, living infants indicate the SOS data are comparable. Additionally, a MANOVA indicated significant differences in SOS related to prematurity (p = 0.001) and age (p < 0.001). Mean SOS was significantly greater among term-born infants (M = 3065.66, SD =165.05) than premature infants (M = 2969.71, SD =192.72). Age had a significant polynomial (cubic) relationship with SOS for both the premature and term groups (p < 0.001). Results suggest that bone from an infant autopsy sample is an appropriate surrogate to examine the relationship between SOS and determinants of bone strength. Therefore, future research will use this study sample to investigate the relationship between SOS and determinants of bone strength in infants.

Background Distinct patterns of retinal hemorrhages (RHs) are suggestive of abusive head trauma in the context of unexplained intracranial injury. Current recommendations encourage an eye examination within 48 hours of admission due to the rapid resolution of RH. The purpose of this study was to identify clinical factors associated with a delay in funduscopic examination outside the recommended 48 hours. Methods Retrospective chart review was completed on all inpatient consultations by the Child Protection Team with evidence of intracranial injury on computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging over 3 years at a large children's hospital. Extracted data included demographic characteristics, history of intubation, pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission, extraventricular drain placement, seizures, use of vasopressor support, and presence of other injuries. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the patient population, clinical characteristics, and outcomes. Multivariate logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with delayed eye examinations. Results A total of 203 patients met inclusion criteria. Of those, 39 (19.2%) had a delay in initial funduscopic examination. Multivariate analyses revealed that PICU admission, surgical intervention, and seizure activity were significant predictors of delayed examination after controlling for multiple clinical factors. Neurosurgical consultation was shown to be protective against a delayed examination. Conclusions Rapid resolution of RH may occur in child abuse. Prompt ophthalmology examinations and neurosurgery consultation when child abuse is suspected help avoid a delay in diagnosis.
