Resumo Plantas de eucalipto são sensíveis à interferência imposta pela comunidade infestante, principalmente durante o crescimento inicial, período que compreende o primeiro ano após a instalação da cultura. Sendo assim, o presente estudo objetivou avaliar o efeito de densidades crescentes de Commelina benghalensis L. (trapoeraba) sobre o crescimento inicial de plantas de Eucalyptus grandis Hill (ex Maiden) em duas estações do ano (inverno e verão). Foram realizados dois experimentos, um no inverno (durante 90 dias) e outro no verão (durante 120 dias), em área aberta, semicontrolada, em caixas de 70 L. Para ambos os experimentos utilizou-se delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições e os tratamentos consistiram de densidades crescentes de trapoeraba: 0 (testemunha), 4, 8, 16, 20, 28, 36, 40, 60 e 80 plantas m-2. Quinze dias após o plantio das mudas de trapoeraba, foi plantada uma muda de eucalipto no centro de cada caixa. Ao final dos períodos experimentais, foram avaliados a altura, o diâmetro, a área foliar e a massa seca da parte aérea do eucalipto. Observou-se que a partir de 4 plantas m-2 já houve interferência negativa no crescimento do eucalipto, com reduções de 38,4% na área foliar e 35% na massa seca, no inverno; e reduções de 52,9% na área foliar e 64,7% na massa seca, no período de verão. Conclui-se que a partir da densidade de 4 plantas m-2 há interferência no crescimento do eucalipto e que, no período de verão, a planta daninha apresenta comportamento competitivo mais agressivo, causando maior interferência nas plantas de eucalipto. Entre os fatores ambientais, a deficiência hídrica tem efeito em diversosprocessos morfológicos e fisiológicos das plantas, podendo afetar ocrescimento e o desenvolvimento das culturas, refletindo na produtividade.Diante disso, objetivou-se avaliar as características fisiológicas de genótiposde amendoim submetidos à deficiência hídrica. Realizou-se um experimentoem blocos inteiramente casualizados, com os tratamentos dispostos emesquema fatorial 12 × 2, tendo como tratamentos 12 genótipos e duascondições hídricas, em cinco repetições. Para avaliar o efeito do estresse, aos25 dias após a emergência (DAE), as plantas de amendoim permaneceramsob deficiência hídrica por quatro dias, enquanto as testemunhas forammantidas a 70% da capacidade de campo. Aos 29 DAE, foram realizadas asavaliações de fotossíntese, transpiração, teor relativo de água, teor de ceraepicuticular e massa seca das plantas. A taxa fotossintética foi menor paratodos os genótipos sob deficiência hídrica, exceto para a linhagem 870, quedemonstrou maior tolerância à seca. Para a transpiração, as cultivares RunnerIAC 886, IAC OL3, IAC OL4 e as linhagens 573, 599, 870 não foram afetadospela deficiência hídrica. Entre os genótipos, há variação na quantidade deceras epicuticulares sob condições hídricas. Com relação ao comportamentoanatomofisiológico dos genótipos, concluiu-se que as linhagens 573 e 870são altamente tolerantes à deficiência hídrica, as cultivares IAC OL3, IAC OL4,Runner IAC 886 e as linhagens 599 e 967 são moderadamente tolerantes eIAC 503, IAC 505 e IAC Tatu-ST e as linhagens 322 e 506 são mais sensíveisao estresse hídrico durante a fase de florescimento. Among the environmental factors, water deficit affects several morphologicaland physiological processes in plants, which may affect crops’ growth anddevelopment, reflecting on the yield. Thus, the aim of this research wasto evaluate the physiological responses of peanut genotypes submitted towater deficit. The experimental design was a completely randomized blockwith treatments in a 12x2 factorial arrangement, with twelve genotypesand two hydric conditions, with 5 replications. To evaluate the effect ofstress, at 25 days after emergence (DAE) peanut plants were kept underwater deficiency for four days, while the controls were kept at 70% offield capacity. At 29 DAE, photosynthesis, transpiration rate, relativewater and epicuticular wax content were evaluated. The photosyntheticrate was lower for all water deficit genotypes, except for the 870 strain,which showed higher drought tolerance. Water deficit did not affect thetranspiration rate of Runner IAC 886, IAC OL3, IAC OL4 cultivars and 573,599, 870 breeding lines. Among the genotypes, there is variation in theamount of the epicuticular waxes under water-deficit conditions. Resumo Reguladores vegetais e herbicidas atuam e modificam diversos processos metabólicos nas plantas. A aplicação de doses subletais destes compostos pode ser utilizada de modo a modular o desenvolvimento e o crescimento das plantas, um efeito denominado hormesis. Múltiplos estudos têm relatado o efeito promotor de doses subletais de etiltrinexapac no acúmulo de biomassa e na expansão da área foliar de plantas de eucalipto. Até o presente momento, não há recomendação acerca de doses promotoras e/ou inibidoras de processos metabólicos para a cultura do eucalipto. Desta forma, este trabalho teve como objetivo investigar o efeito de doses crescentes de etiltrinexapac no estabelecimento e crescimento inicial de mudas de Eucalyptus urograndis. Etiltrinexapac foi aplicado em doses de 15 a 90 g de ingrediente ativo por hectare (g i.a. ha-1), em duas modalidades, através da pulverização ou da imersão das raízes em solução. As doses de 15 g i.a. ha-1 via pulverização, e 30 g i.a. ha-1 via imersão de raízes, resultaram em efeito positivo no crescimento do clone GG100 de Eucalyptus urograndis, com acréscimos de, respectivamente, 74,6% e 12,8% na massa seca total, em relação à testemunha. As doses de 15 a 90 g i.a. ha-1, via pulverização, resultaram em efeito estimulatório no crescimento do eucalipto. As doses de 15 e 30 g i.a. ha-1, na modalidade imersão das raízes, proporcionaram efeito positivo nas características avaliadas do eucalipto. A dose de 90 g i.a. ha-1 apresentou efeito inibitório ao crescimento do eucalipto na modalidade imersão das raízes, aos 35 dias após a aplicação de etiltrinexapac. Abstract Plant growth regulators and herbicides can act and modify several metabolic processes in plants. The use of sub-lethal doses of those compounds might modulate the development and growth of plants, an effect known as hormesis. Recent studies reported the stimulatory responses of sub-lethal doses of trinexapac-ethyl on the biomass accumulation and leaf area expansion of eucalypt plants. To date, there is no recommendation regarding promoting or inhibitory doses of such compounds for eucalypt production industry. Thus, this work aims to investigate the effect of trinexapac-ethyl on the establishment and initial growth of Eucalyptus urograndis seedlings. Trinexapac-ethyl was applied at doses varying 15 to 90 g (plus a control treatment) per hectare of active ingredient (g a.i. ha-1) in two application methods: spraying and root immersion. The doses of 15 g a.i. ha-1 through spraying and the 30 g a.i. ha-1 in root immersion resulted in a positive effect on the growth of Eucalyptus urograndis Clone GG100. Total dry biomass increased by 74.6% and 12.8%, respectively, compared to control plants. The spraying of 15 to 90 g a.i. ha-1 of trinexapax-ethyl resulted in a stimulatory effect on the growth of eucalyptus. The doses of 15 and 30 g a.i. ha-1 via root immersion provided a positive effect on the all evaluated characteristics of eucalyptus. O maturador etil-trinexapac pode afetar positivamente o eucalipto, resposta caracterizada como hormese, conferindo às plantas maior tolerância aos estresses. Diante disto, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do etil-trinexapac no crescimento inicial do eucalipto em condições de estresse hídrico e nutricional. Quatro experimentos foram conduzidos em casa de vegetação, em vasos de 15 L, sendo dois sob deficiência hídrica e dois sob deficiência nutricional (NPK). Nas duas condições, foram utilizadas duas épocas de aplicação de etil-trinexapac (antes do plantio - AP; e depois do plantio - DP) em mudas de Eucalyptus urophylla (clone I-144). Avaliou-se: trocas gasosas, teor de clorofila total, altura, diâmetro do caule, área foliar, matéria seca e relação raiz/parte aérea. Para a deficiência hídrica, conduziu-se dois experimentos simultaneamente, durante 74 dias após o plantio (DAP) do eucalipto. Os tratamentos consistiram da combinação de três doses de etil-trinexapac (0,0; 30 e 60 g i.a. ha-1) e duas condições hídricas (sem estresse e com deficiência hídrica – conduzido a 20% da capacidade de campo). Adotou-se o delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3x2, com cinco repetições. Na época de aplicação AP, a pulverização de etil-trinexapac ocorreu aos 0 DAP e na época de aplicação DP, aos 24 DAP. Houve efeito positivo para a taxa de assimilação líquida de CO2 aos 27 e 40 DAP, para o DP e AP, respectivamente. As plantas de eucalipto na ausência de deficiência hídrica apresentaram maior crescimento, independentemente da época de aplicação. Conclui-se que o etil-trinexapac não ocasionou efeito hormético no eucalipto, independentemente da condição hídrica, e as épocas de aplicação influenciaram de formas distintas as características avaliadas, não havendo efeito prejudicial em nenhuma delas. Para a deficiência nutricional, conduziu-se dois experimentos simultaneamente, durante 81 DAP. Os tratamentos consistiram da combinação de três doses de etil-trinexapac (0,0; 30 e 60 g i.a. ha-1) e quatro variações da solução nutritiva de Hoagland e Arnon (solução completa, -N, -P e -K). Utilizou-se delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3x4, com cinco repetições. Na época de aplicação AP a pulverização do maturador ocorreu aos 0 DAP, enquanto no DP, aos 33 DAP. As plantas em solução –K não diferiram das cultivadas em solução completa. O tratamento –N proporcionou maior relação raiz/parte aérea, mas resultou em menor crescimento, seguido pelo –P. Quando em –P, o etil-trinexapac teve efeito positivo para a matéria seca total (AP) e área foliar (DP). O maturador afetou positivamente algumas características fotossintéticas do eucalipto. Eucalyptus plants are sensitive to abiotic stresses in their initial development, and water and nutritional deficiencies are two of the most recurrent among them. Trinexapac-ethyl can positively affect eucalyptus, a response known as hormesis, possible providing plants greater tolerance to stress. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of trinexapac-ethyl on the initial growth of eucalyptus under conditions of water and nutritional stress. Four experiments were conducted in greenhouse, in 15 L pots. Two in the water deficiency condition and two in nutritional deficiency (NPK). In both deficiency conditions, two trinexapac-ethyl application times (before planting - BP and after planting - AP) in Eucalyptus urophylla (clone I-144) were used. The following variables were evaluated: gas exchange, total chlorophyll content, height, stem diameter, leaf area, dry matter and root/shoot ratio. For water deficiency, two experiments were conducted simultaneously, during 74 days after planting (DAP) of eucalyptus. The treatments consisted of three doses of trinexapac-ethyl (0.0, 30 and 60 g i.a. ha-1) and two water conditions (no stress and water deficiency - conducted at 20% field capacity). A randomized complete block design was used in a 3x2 factorial scheme with five replications. In the BP application time, trinexapac-ethyl was sprayed at 0 DAP and in AP mode at 24 DAP. We found a positive effect for net assimilation rate at 27 and 40 DAP, for AP and BP, respectively. Eucalyptus plants in the absence of water deficiency showed higher growth, regardless application time. We concluded that trinexapac-ethyl did not cause hormesis on eucalyptus, regardless water status, and the application time influenced the characteristics evaluated in different ways, with no harmful effect in any of them. For nutritional deficiency, two experiments were conducted simultaneously, for 81 DAP. The treatments consisted of three doses of trinexapac-ethyl (0.0, 30 and 60 g i.a. ha-1) and four variations of the nutrient solution of Hoagland and Arnon: complete solution, -N, -P and -K. A randomized complete block design was used in a 3x4 factorial scheme with five replications. In the BP application time, trinexapac-ethyl was sprayed at 0 DAP, while in AP, at 33 DAP. Plants in -K solution did not differ from those grown in complete solution. The treatment -N provided a higher root/shoot ratio, but resulted in lower growth, followed by -P. In -P solution, trinexapac-ethyl had a positive effect on total dry matter (BP) and leaf area (AP). Trinexapac-ethyl positively affected some photosynthetic characteristics of eucalyptus. more...
