This document provides DESIRA's third set of practice abstracts (PAs) which is a compilation of seven PAs. Those PAs are based on the experiences, lessons learned, project actions and reporting of the WP3 activities that aimed at the development of scenarios and showcasing of technologies building on the concept of digital game changers. Tasks 3.5 'Use Case development' and 3.6 'Showcase Technologies', are the main contributing project tasks that provided concrete results on which these seven PAs, cited in this report, are based. The first five PAs provide a concise description of five use cases that were developed during the second period of the DESIRA project. An array of conducted activities inside the boundaries of five preselected Living Labs, and with the participation of those LL's stakeholders, were planned so that WP3 could culminate in the development of five technology adoption use cases. The last two PAs of this report, supplement the five aforementioned use case PAs by showcasing two additional promising technology solutions that have the potential to contribute to sustainable digital transition pathways, as those are defined by the DESIRA's theoretical framework and as reflected by the examined agro-rural-forestry settings of this project. For a thorough and detailed analysis of the methodology, activities, and outcomes that contributed to the production of the use cases and showcase technology reports, it is recommended the reading of deliverables D3.3 'Use Cases Report' and D3.4 'Showcase Technology Report' which are the foundation documents on which this deliverable is based on.

This report presents how to integrate critical values of the digitisation process and apply these values during the various phases of digital solutions development, testing, and adoption. It showcases this in a practical way, by presenting two proof-of-concept solutions delivered by DESIRA. The report presents thoroughly the DigiCroft virtual farm and the Chatbot technologies and displays their technical features, design perspectives and their wider social and economic impacts, perceived as system disruptors, aiming to juxtapose the technology design characteristics with integrated digitisation practices, as defined from DESIRA's standpoint.

Questo documento riporta l'analisi relativa alla progettazione del framework di integrazione delle funzionalità, come previsto dal progetto ChAALenge. In particolare, vengono in questa sede analizzate le tecnologie per lo sviluppo del middleware di comunicazione e le modalità di interfacciamento con le soluzioni sensoristiche individuate.

The main results of the H2020 DESIRA project will be presented, focusing on the so-called use cases, i.e., the co-design of 5 high-level technological solutions in 21 EU Living Labs to push for sustainable digital tools tailored to the context to be introduced in forestry, agricultural, and rural areas. Both the methodology and the main results will be shown, focusing on the 5 case studies developed in the project.

Il deliverable ha come obiettivo la definizione di un percorso intraprendibile per lo sviluppo di un modello predittivo, efficace ed efficiente, basato sul paradigma machine learning, sviluppato in funzione del dominio applicativo in esame e dei dati a disposizione. Una parte verrà dedicata all'introduzione degli aspetti principali legati alle strategie di individuazione di anomalie in serie temporali multi-variate tramite il suddetto modello predittivo.

In DESIRA, five Living Labs were selected to carry out use case workshops. The objective was to codesign a digital tool in each different context. To do so, the participants agreed on one or more goals to be reached. Building on both the focal question and the scenario question that each Living Lab has developed in previous activities, a use case statement has been co-developed to carry out use case workshops. The use case statement describes the goal(s) of the tool to be co-designed, the involved actors, and the needed ICT components. The used methodology is described in this report, as well as the outputs of the process. The methodology has been adapted to the concept of socio-cyber-physical system that DESIRA developed, opening discussions on impacts, drivers, and barriers as further step in the process, following the high-level design of the digital tool and of its main functionalities. Each Living Lab identified what the participants deemed as needed in their region in terms of a novel digital tool. The presence of various stakeholders in Living Labs has made it easier to consider a wide range of needs since the very beginning, allowing everyone to have a role when it comes to the use of the co-designed digital tool. Such a mechanism, not embedded in the typical use case methodology - which only clarifies the role of those considered as users by ICT designers - has been further strengthened in the workshops, therefore going beyond the traditional approach. In fact, by fostering discussions on impacts, drivers, and barriers, the proposed methodology has allowed the participants to reflect, early on in the process, on the potential impacts of the introduction of digital technologies. Last but not least, it is worth pointing out that the outputs of the use cases, summarised in this document, provide a valuable starting point for software companies willing to design and develop digital tools not only according to users' needs and desires but also tailored to the different rural contexts herein under consideration.

Both aspects build upon the use of the toolkit proposed in D1.3, and comprising the identification of the function of the digital tool, the reference application scenario, the high-level description of the CPS layers conceptually in use, the core digital technologies exploited by the digital tool, and finally the qualitative evaluations of plausible areas of socio-economic impacts. The aim is in providing descriptions relevant for practitioners in a plain language, pointing out key elements that may attract their interest.

This document describes a toolkit designed within the DESIRA project to support the work in the 20 Living Labs. This toolkit is composed of several parts: the inventory of digital tools, the set of application scenarios as derived from the inventory, a list of digital technologies with the potential of being digital game changers (DGCs), and a map of plausible socio-economic impacts associated with the selected potential DGCs. Several experts' interviews have been performed to enrich and support the toolkit.

The Science and Technology Foresight Project seeks to define a medium to long-term vision - 5 to 30 years - in order to elaborate coherent research strategies relevant to socially critical problems in the field of environment, health, food, energy, security and transportation. Both, the holistic approach applied to the analysis of the topics, as well as the innovative format of the invitation-only workshops, enticed the participation of internationally acknowledged experts. This framework guaranteed all participants the necessary conditions to carry out an open interactive debate, consolidating a collective intelligence, which assisted in achieving a consensus on research priorities, knowledge gaps, and funding needs. This approach is designed to facilitate convergence towards common positions in order to address the social acceptability of future products and services and resultant market potential. A strong consensus among the workshops' participants during the past four years has been reached regarding the urgency of scientific and technological breakthroughs in a number of issues, strongly correlated to each other, which need to be tackled. The issues can be summarized as follows: (i) development of materials to perform different functions according to external environmental conditions and to respond to different requirements; (ii) interaction between AI, data, models, and knowledge in order to design learning machines that provide satisfactory explanations to humans for their decisions, continuously learn to respond to unknown conditions, and robustly handle adversarial examples; (iii) systems considered as a global entity with all kinds of dimensions and always analysed by parts with proper interfaces. The study of the interactions between the interfaces, the dynamics and the communication ways is of primary importance for understanding the functioning of the systems themselves, even if the nature of the interactions can be very varied and may require multi-scaling treatment. The aim of the present document is to identify foresight priorities within the topic "Models, Algorithms, and Data for the Future", which indicate a roadmap for the discussion in future workshops.

Relazione finale del progetto MOSCARDO.

In questo documento eÌEUR presentata una panoramica sulle tecnologie emergenti e in via di standardizzazione utili alla definizione di uno stack protocollare per le comunicazioni Machine-to-Machine (M2M) in ambito marittimo. Precisamente sono prese in considerazione le tecnologie che permettono la definizione dei livelli dello stack che vanno dal fisico all'applicativo. Tali tecnonologie sono state identificate sulla base della definizione dei casi d'uso derivati dagli scenari applicativi che saranno studiati nel progetto. Inoltre sono state raccolte le specifiche funzionali dei casi d'uso per identificare l'architettura di comunicazione che soddisfa al meglio i requisiti imposti dalle applicazioni. Le architetture cosiÌEUR definite saranno testate in via simulativa per valutarne le prestazioni. Per una questione di completezza della trattazione, saranno valutate anche delle soluzioni tecnologiche, per la definizione dello stack, subottime che si adattano alla disponibilitaÌEUR dei prodotti di mercato per una rapida realizzazione con hardware Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS).

This technical note deals with a literature survey on the adoption of Network Coding (NC), differentiated on the basis of the OSI layer where network coding is adopted. Therefore, this document is divided into three parts, as follows: Technical Challenge #1 (TC1), Network coding adopted at application layer (or just below); Technical Challenge #2 (TC2), Network coding applied at transport layer (or just below); Technical Challenge #3 (TC3), Network coding applied at network layer (or just below). The purpose of this document is to survey the different applications of network coding explaining why it is used and how it is used with a particular attention to multipath scenarios and satellite case studies. A second part of this report contains a detailed description of the selected simulation scenarios by the team and a description of related issues in terms of layer where NC should be used and NC compatibility issues (ROHC, IPsec). Finally, benchmark techniques are presented and a description of the implementation phase of simulators (3 scenarios) is provided together with some results and comparisons with benchmark schemes. A third part of this report contains a survey of currently available simulation tools for network coding and discusses about pros and cons. Simulations results and final considerations are also provided that have permitted to highlight the advantages in using network coding.

According to data traffic forecast reports, the volume of data transported by Internet in 2020 will exceed the threshold of 2.0 zettabytes per year, generated by more than trillion of devices. Only a minor portion of the traffic will be generated by PCs, as commonly observed in the recent past. On the contrary, a large quota of Internet traffic is expected to be generated by TVs, tablets, smartphones, and M2M devices. In particular, it has been highlighted that M2M traffic will experience a growth rate in the order of 60%. M2M refers to technologies that allow both wireless and wired systems to communicate with other devices of the same ability, sensors and actuators, without any human intervention. M2M applications are largely diffused in several deployments and have pushed the scientific community to thoroughly investigate the network design implications. The large amount of traffic contributed by these applications will have an important impact on the design of future network architecture and on dimensioning the capacity of the telecommunication infrastructures. From this standpoint, a special note has to be reserved to the case of M2M services distributed via satellite, whose related industry is continuously increasing in size, which is the main focus of this work. More generally, the research problem can be stated as follows: a large and dense population of M2M devices exchanges short data bursts over a shared satellite medium; support for sporadic and unpredictable access activity and/or support to delay-critical applications is required. Random Access (RA) schemes for handling uncoordinated multiple access can nowadays compete with the throughput offered by typical coordinated techniques, making the former ones strongly attractive to support large populations of M2M terminals, while contemporary providing immediate access to the channel, without any reservation delays that are typical of coordinated access schemes. Therefore, the focus of this Ph.D. Thesis is on analysing, analytically and empirically, the behaviour of the most common M2M protocol stacks on RA satellite links and on suggesting guidelines to improve the achievable performance level. The first part of this Thesis presents a load control algorithm to maximize the throughput achievable by RCSTs, focusing on the exploitation of linear code prior to transmission, in order to improve the transmission robustness at the cost of some capacity waste because of the redundancy. Furthermore, an innovative hybrid access protocol is designed, aiming at allowing the coexistence of M2M and non-M2M RCSTs in the same network. The second part of this Thesis studies the performance of M2M protocol stacks via RA satellite channels, when a reliable data delivery is needed in channels suffering of erasures due to collisions. Two metrics are taken into account: the completion time, in presence of short data bursts, and the throughput, in presence of a sustained load. A cross-layer study is proposed, in order to characterize the interactions among application, transport and M2M layers of a M2M protocol stack sending data via a RA satellite channel.

L'obiettivo di questo tirocinio è l'implementazione di un modulo di comunicazione multipath per il caso d'uso di trasmissione di flussi multimediali in real-time. Si definisce multipath una connessione in grado di sfruttare contemporaneamente piu` canali fisici di comunicazione fra sorgente e destinazione. Il modulo ha l'obiettivo principale di gestire la distribuzione del traffico sui diversi canali tramite un opportuno algoritmo di scheduling. Nella fase iniziale, il lavoro si è concentrato sulla ricerca dei protocolli multipath esistenti, nonchè delle piattaforme software in grado di soddisfare tale requisito. Sono stati dapprima individuati tre protocolli in grado di gestire comunicazioni multipath: . SCTP (Stream Control Transmission Protocol), descritto nel capitolo 1; . MP-TCP (Multipath-TCP), descritto nel capitolo 2; . MP-RTP (Multipath-RTP), descritto nel capitolo 3. Tale studio ha portato, infine, alla scelta del protocollo piu` adatto al caso d'uso proposto, ovvero MPRTP. Nella seconda fase, è stata selezionata la piattaforma software di riferimento, ovvero Gstreamer1, descritta nel capitolo 4.1, per la quale è presente un plugin che implementa il protocollo MPRTP. Su tale plugin - ancora in via di sviluppo - è stato implementato un algoritmo di scheduling che gestisca la distribuzione del traffico multimediale sui flussi multipath, in accordo con le statistiche di ciascun canale.

La main board, scheda denominata S5P5, ospita vari componenti elettronici che ne implementano le varie funzionalitaÌEUR (per i dettagli implementativi si rimanda al documento "D3.1 Componenti del sistema di rilevamento".): . Interfaccia di comunicazione.

Il presente documento costituisce parte del Deliverable D3.3 dal titolo "Applicazione del server di gestione" e rappresenta il risultato dell'attività del progetto Smart HealthyENV denominata A3.3 "Elaborazione delle informazioni e server di gestione" in carico al partner Rigel Engineering. Il risultato principale dell'attività A3.3, e dell'obiettivo operativo OO3, è chiaramente la realizzazione del server di gestione, costituito dal codice eseguibile realizzato in forma prototipale nel modo di una web application, e reso disponibile on-line. Il server di gestione ha il compito di raccogliere i dati dalle varie fonti (sensori, applicazioni di mobile social networking, sensori di traffico) memorizzare le informazioni, elaborare gli indici e distribuire le informazioni elaborate agli utenti attraverso una interfaccia di tipo web.

Il presente documento descrive l'architettura del Sistema Smart HealthyENV. Nell'immagine seguente viene raffigurata l'architettura generale del sistema SHE e le interazioni tra le varie componenti progettate.

Il presente documento descrive l'architettura del Sistema Smart HealthyENV. Nell'immagine seguente viene raffigurata l'architettura generale del sistema SHE e le interazioni tra le varie componenti progettate.

Attraverso il progetto Smart HealthyENV (SHE) è stato progettato e realizzato un sistema innovativo, multidisciplinare e a basso costo in grado di raccogliere, elaborare e distribuire a diverse categorie di utenti (cittadini, responsabili di enti locali, autorità sanitarie, ricercatori in ambito sanitario ed ambientale), informazioni georeferenziate relative all'influenza che inquinamento e condizioni microclimatiche hanno sulla qualità della vita in ambiente urbano. L'obiettivo è contribuire all'implementazione di una smart mobility degli utenti applicabile anche in piccole realtà urbane. Il Sistema si inserisce infatti totalmente nelle prospettive regionali, nazionali comunitarie di sviluppo di "Smart Cities", in cui gli utenti possono partecipare attivamente al miglioramento della qualità della vita nel proprio ambiente, sia fruendo di informazioni puntuali e dettagliate sulle condizioni ambientali rilevate attraverso nodi sensore a basso costo disposti in varie zone di interesse della città, sia generando loro stessi contenuti utili alla valutazione ed al confronto delle condizioni di vita e di vivibilità della città.

L'architettura dei componenti della rete viene descritta in dettaglio nel documento D2b - 'Progetto della rete di rilevamento (sensori) e del condizionamento del segnale' e nel documento D2.a.1 - 'Sistema di rilevazione dei parametri': a questi si rimanda per una piu? dettagliata trattazione, di carattere generale, di ciascun componente.

Nel presente capitolo viene definita e descritta l'infrastruttura di comunicazione del sistema, nella sua componente fissa e in quella mobile. Verranno descritte le funzionalita? offerte dalla componente fissa e dalla componente mobile della rete; per componente fissa si intendono i nodi statici disponibili in punti della citta? ben definiti, mentre per componente mobile si intendono i nodi in movimento disponibili su veicoli atti al trasporto. La componente fissa e quella mobile dell'infrastruttura di comunicazione sono in grado di dialogare tra loro al fine dello scambio dei dati rilevati dalla sensoristica disponibile nell'ambito di progetto. Un appropriato set di protocolli di rete permettera?, quindi, alla sensoristica fissa di comunicare con se stessa ed alla sensoristica mobile di interfacciarsi con la componente fissa.

Questo documento è stato prodotto sulla base delle informazioni disponibili alla data di stesura che risultano ampiamente sufficienti a procedere alla progettazione del sistema informativo del server di gestione. Si rileva peraltro che taluni dettagli tecnici, in particolare relativi al sistema di acquisizione dei dati di traffico da un sistema informativo esterno, sono tuttora in fase di definizione. Pertanto non si può escludere la necessità di limitati interventi di precisazione o modifica. Qualora si verifichino situazioni che impongano una revisione delle informazioni trattate da questo documento, si procedera? alla stesura di un addendum che descriverà le modifiche da apportare.
