Objective: To assess the antioxidant, wound healing, anti-ulcer, and anti-inflammatory properties of Jatropha maheshwari. Methods: Jatropha maheshwari was collected from Kanyakumari district and authenticated. Ethanol was used for continuous hot percolation extraction of the plant. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH and ABTS assays. The wound healing potential was assessed through a wound scratch assay using 3T3-L1 murine fibroblast cell lines. Anti-ulcer activity was measured using the acid-neutralizing capacity (ANC) and H+/K+-ATPase inhibitory activity methods. Anti-inflammatory effects were determined through dose-dependent studies of the ethanol extract. Results: Antioxidant Activity: The crude extract exhibited strong antioxidant capacity with percentage inhibition values of 88% (DPPH) and 75.7% (ABTS). Wound Healing Activity: The wound closure rate in treated 3T3-L1 cell lines reached 97.88%, indicating potent wound healing properties. Anti-Ulcer Activity: The extract demonstrated an 80.1% inhibition compared to the control when tested alongside omeprazole. ANC per gram of antacid was recorded at 20 and 26 for oral doses of 10 and 500 {\mu}g/ml, respectively. Anti-Inflammatory Activity: Dose-dependent inhibition percentages of 30.1% (10 {\mu}g/ml) and 96.5% (500 {\mu}g/ml) were observed (p<0.001) relative to inflammation control. Additional percentages of 26.3% (10 {\mu}g/ml) and 42.6% (500 {\mu}g/ml) further confirmed the anti-inflammatory activity. Conclusion: Jatropha maheshwari demonstrates significant antioxidant, wound healing, anti-ulcer, and anti-inflammatory properties. Further research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms underlying these pharmacological effects.

Neutrino-nucleus cross section measurements are needed to improve interaction modeling to meet the precision needs of neutrino experiments in efforts to measure oscillation parameters and search for physics beyond the Standard Model. We review the difficulties associated with modeling neutrino-nucleus interactions that lead to a dependence on event generators in oscillation analyses and cross section measurements alike. We then describe data-driven model validation techniques intended to address this model dependence. The method relies on utilizing various goodness-of-fit tests and the correlations between different observables and channels to probe the model for defects in the phase space relevant for the desired analysis. These techniques shed light on relevant mis-modeling, allowing it to be detected before it begins to bias the cross section results. We compare more commonly used model validation methods which directly validate the model against alternative ones to these data-driven techniques and show their efficacy with fake data studies. These studies demonstrate that employing data-driven model validation in cross section measurements represents a reliable strategy to produce robust results that will stimulate the desired improvements to interaction modeling.

We measure the time-integrated CP asymmetry in $D^{0} \rightarrow K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}$ decays reconstructed in $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow c\overline{c}$ events collected by the Belle and Belle II experiments. The corresponding data samples have integrated luminosities of 980 fb$^{-1}$ and 428 fb$^{-1}$, respectively. The $D^{0}$ decays are required to originate from the $D^{*+} \rightarrow D^{0}\pi^{+}$ decay, which determines the charm flavor at production time. A control sample of $D^{0} \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}$ decays is used to correct for production and detection asymmetries. Left-right symmetric models which employ a generalized seesaw mechanism to generate quark and charged lepton masses are known to solve the strong CP problem via parity symmetry, without the need for the axion. These models lead to naturally light Dirac neutrinos with their masses arising through radiatve corrections. In this work, we show how baryogenesis via Dirac leptogenesis can be implemented in this framework. A pair of left-right symmetric scalar doublets $\phi_{L,R}$ carrying $(B-L)$ charge of $3$ is introduced for this purpose, which preserves the parity solution to the strong CP problem. Small neutrino masses are generated through one-loop diagrams mediated by these scalars. The decay of vector-like leptons ($E_i$) involved in the seesaw mechanism to generate charged lepton masses, $E_i \rightarrow \overline{\nu}_{jR} \,\phi_R^-$, creates a right-handed neutrino ($\nu_{R}$) asymmetry, while preserving total lepton number. The compensating lepton asymmetry is converted to baryon asymmetry via electroweak sphalerons. We show that for a large range of model parameters successful baryogenesis can be realized, with the $W_R^\pm$ gauge boson mass being as low as $10^6$ GeV., Comment: 21 pages, 7 figures and 2 tables

The magnetised near detector (ND280) of the T2K long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment has been recently upgraded aiming to satisfy the requirement of reducing the systematic uncertainty from measuring the neutrinonucleus interaction cross section, which is the largest systematic uncertainty in the search for leptonic charge-parity symmetry violation. A key component of the upgrade is SuperFGD, a 3D segmented plastic scintillator detector made of approximately 2,000,000 optically-isolated 1 cm3 cubes. It will provide a 3D image of GeV neutrino interactions by combining tracking and stopping power measurements of final state particles with sub-nanosecond time resolution. The performance of SuperFGD is characterized by the precision of its response to charged particles as well as the systematic effects that might affect the physics measurements. Hence, a detailed Geant4 based optical simulation of the SuperFGD building block, i.e. a plastic scintillating cube read out by three wavelength shifting fibers, has been developed and validated with the different datasets collected in various beam tests. In ocean colour remote sensing, radiance at the sensor level can be modeled using molecular scattering and particle scattering based on existing mathematical models and gaseous absorption in the atmosphere. The modulation of light field by optical constituents within the seawater waters results in the spectral variation of water leaving radiances that can be related to phytoplankton pigment concentration, total suspended matter, vertical diffuse attenuation coefficients etc. Atmospheric correction works very well over open ocean using NIR channels of ocean colour sensors to retrieve geophysical products with reasonable accuracy while it fails over sediment laden and/or optically complex waters. To resolve this issue, a combination of SWIR channels or NIR-SWIR channels are configured in some ocean colour sensors such as Sentinel- OLCI, EOS- 06 OCM etc. Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM)-3 on board EOS -06 was launched on Nov 26, 2022. It has 13 bands in VNIR (400-1010 nm range) with ~1500 km swath for ocean colour monitoring. Data leakage is a very common problem that is often overlooked during splitting data into train and test sets before training any ML/DL model. The model performance gets artificially inflated with the presence of data leakage during the evaluation phase which often leads the model to erroneous prediction on real-time deployment. However, detecting the presence of such leakage is challenging, particularly in the object detection context of perception systems where the model needs to be supplied with image data for training. In this study, we conduct a computational experiment on the Cirrus dataset from our industrial partner Volvo Cars to develop a method for detecting data leakage. We then evaluate the method on another public dataset, Kitti, which is a popular and widely accepted benchmark dataset in the automotive domain. The results show that thanks to our proposed method we are able to detect data leakage in the Kitti dataset, which was previously unknown.

Very-high-energy (0.1-100 TeV) gamma-ray emission was observed in HAWC data from the lobes of the microquasar SS 433, making them the first set of astrophysical jets that were resolved at TeV energies. In this work, we update the analysis of SS 433 using 2,565 days of data from the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory. Our analysis reports the detection of a point-like source in the east lobe at a significance of $6.6\,\sigma$ and in the west lobe at a significance of $8.2\,\sigma$. For each jet lobe, we localize the gamma-ray emission and identify a best-fit position. The locations are close to the X-ray emission sites "e1" and "w1" for the east and west lobes, respectively. We analyze the spectral energy distributions and find that the energy spectra of the lobes are consistent with a simple power-law $\text{d}N/\text{d}E\propto E^{\alpha}$ with $\alpha = -2.44^{+0.13+0.04}_{-0.12-0.04}$ and $\alpha = -2.35^{+0.12+0.03}_{-0.11-0.03}$ for the east and west lobes, respectively. The maximum energy of photons from the east and west lobes reaches 56 TeV and 123 TeV, respectively. We compare our observations to various models and conclude that the very-high-energy gamma-ray emission can be produced by a population of electrons that were efficiently accelerated.

The Ocean Color Monitor-3 (OCM-3) sensor is instrumental in Earth observation, achieving a critical balance between high-resolution imaging and broad coverage. This paper explores innovative imaging methods employed in OCM-3 and the transformative potential of super-resolution techniques to enhance image quality. The super-resolution model for OCM-3 (SOCM-3) addresses the challenges of contemporary satellite imaging by effectively navigating the trade-off between image clarity and swath width. With resolutions below 240 meters in Local Area Coverage (LAC) mode and below 750 meters in Global Area Coverage (GAC) mode, coupled with a wide 1550-kilometer swath and a 2-day revisit time, SOCM-3 emerges as a leading asset in remote sensing. The paper details the intricate interplay of atmospheric, motion, optical, and detector effects that impact image quality, emphasizing the necessity for advanced computational techniques and sophisticated algorithms for effective image reconstruction. Evaluation methods are thoroughly discussed, incorporating visual assessments using the Blind/Referenceless Image Spatial Quality Evaluator (BRISQUE) metric and computational metrics such as Line Spread Function (LSF), Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM), and Super-Resolution (SR) ratio. Additionally, statistical analyses, including power spectrum evaluations and target-wise spectral signatures, are employed to gauge the efficacy of super-resolution techniques. Large neutrino liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) experiments can broaden their physics reach by reconstructing and interpreting MeV-scale energy depositions, or blips, present in their data. We demonstrate new calorimetric and particle discrimination capabilities at the MeV energy scale using reconstructed blips in data from the MicroBooNE LArTPC at Fermilab. We observe a concentration of low energy ($<$3 MeV) blips around fiberglass mechanical support struts along the TPC edges with energy spectrum features consistent with the Compton edge of 2.614 MeV $^{208}$Tl decay $\gamma$ rays. These features are used to verify proper calibration of electron energy scales in MicroBooNE's data to few percent precision and to measure the specific activity of $^{208}$Tl in the fiberglass composing these struts, $(11.7 \pm 0.2 ~\text{(stat)} \pm 2.8~\text{(syst)})~\text{Bq/kg}$. Cosmogenically-produced blips above 3 MeV in reconstructed energy are used to showcase the ability of large LArTPCs to distinguish between low-energy proton and electron energy depositions. An enriched sample of low-energy protons selected using this new particle discrimination technique is found to be smaller in data than in dedicated CORSIKA cosmic ray simulations, suggesting either incorrect CORSIKA modeling of incident cosmic fluxes or particle transport modeling issues in Geant4., Comment: 19 pages, 15 figures total including the supplementary material section, 1 table. Microquasars are laboratories for the study of jets of relativistic particles produced by accretion onto a spinning black hole. Microquasars are near enough to allow detailed imaging of spatial features across the multiwavelength spectrum. The recent extension of the spatial morphology of a microquasar, SS 433, to TeV gamma rays \cite{abeysekara2018very} localizes the acceleration of electrons at shocks in the jet far from the black hole \cite{hess2024ss433}. Here we report TeV gamma-ray emission from another microquasar, V4641~Sgr, which reveals particle acceleration at similar distances from the black hole as SS~433. Additionally, the gamma-ray spectrum of V4641 is among the hardest TeV spectra observed from any known gamma-ray source and is detected up to 200 TeV. Gamma rays are produced by particles, either electrons or hadrons, of higher energies. Because electrons lose energy more quickly the higher their energy, such a spectrum either very strongly constrains the electron production mechanism or points to the acceleration of high-energy hadrons. This observation suggests that large-scale jets from microquasars could be more common than previously expected and that microquasars could be a significant source of Galactic cosmic rays. high energy gamma-rays also provide unique constraints on the acceleration mechanisms of extra-Galactic cosmic rays postulated to be produced by the supermassive black holes and relativistic jets of quasars. The distance to quasars limits imaging studies due to insufficient angular resolution of gamma-rays and due to attenuation of the highest energy gamma-rays by the extragalactic background light.

The kagome lattice, known for its strong frustration in two dimensions, hosts a variety of exotic magnetic and electronic states. A variation of this geometry, where the triangular motifs are twisted to further reduce symmetry, has recently revealed even more complex physics. HoAgGe exemplifies such a structure, with magnetic and electronic properties believed to be driven by strong in-plane anisotropy of the Ho spins, effectively acting as a two-dimensional spin ice. In this study, using a combination of magnetization, Hall conductivity measurements, and density functional theory calculations, we demonstrate how various spin-ice states, stabilized by external magnetic fields, influence the Fermi surface topology. More interestingly, we observe sharp transitions in Hall conductivity without concurrent changes in magnetization when an external magnetic field is applied along a particular crystallographic direction, underscoring the role of strong magnetic frustration and providing a new platform for exploring the interplay between magnetic frustration, electronic topology, and crystalline symmetry. These results also highlight the limitations of a simple spin-ice model, suggesting that a more sophisticated framework is necessary to capture the subtle experimental nuances observed., Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures

Arcing faults in low voltage (LV) distribution systems associated with arc-flash risk and potentially significant equipment damage are notoriously difficult to detect under some conditions. Especially so when attempting to detect using sensing at the line, high voltage side of a substation transformer. This paper presents an analytics-based physics-aware approach to detect high-impedance, low-current arcing faults from the primary side of the substation transformer at current thresholds, below normal operating events, along with transformer inrush currents. The proposed methodology leverages the Hankel Alternative View Of Koopman Operator approach to differentiate arcing faults from standard operations, while the Series2Graph method is employed to identify the time of fault occurrence and duration. Unlike prior studies that detect such faults at the device or secondary transformer side, this work demonstrates successful fault detection at the primary side of the distribution substation transformer for faults occurring on the secondary side. The approach addresses the practical challenges of differentiating primary side expected and acceptable transients from similar magnitude LV arcing fault currents that may occur on the secondary side. The results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method in accurately identifying fault occurrence and duration, minimizing the risk of false positives during similar characteristic events, thus improving the reliability and operational efficiency of power distribution systems. This approach can benefit both traditional and smart power grids that employ similar transformer configurations.

We present a measurement of the branching fraction and time-dependent charge-parity ($CP$) decay-rate asymmetries in $B^0 \to J/\psi \pi^0$ decays. The data sample was collected with the Belle~II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider in 2019-2022 and contains $(387\pm 6)\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ meson pairs from $\Upsilon(4S)$ decays. We reconstruct $392\pm 24$ signal decays and fit the $CP$ parameters from the distribution of the proper-decay-time difference of the two $B$ mesons. We measure the branching fraction to be $B(B^0 \to J/\psi \pi^0)=(2.02 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.10)\times 10^{-5}$ and the direct and mixing-induced $CP$ asymmetries to be $C_{CP}=0.13 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.03$ and $S_{CP}=-0.88 \pm 0.17 \pm 0.03$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We observe mixing-induced $CP$ violation with a significance of $5.0$ standard deviations for the first time in this mode.

Star formation rates (SFRs) are a crucial observational tracer of galaxy formation and evolution. Spectroscopy, which is expensive, is traditionally used to estimate SFRs. This study tests the possibility of inferring SFRs of large samples of galaxies from only photometric data, using state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning algorithms. The dataset adopted in this work is the one collected by Delli Veneri et al. (2019): it includes photometric data of more than 27 million galaxies coming from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 (SDSS-DR7). The algorithms we implemented and tested for comparing the performances include Linear Regression, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, Support Vector Regression (SVR), Random Forest Regressor, Decision Tree Regressor, Gradient Boosting Regressor, and classical deep learning models. Our results mention that the Linear Regression model predicted an impressive accuracy of 98.97 percent as measured by the Mean Absolute Error (MAE), demonstrating that machine-learning approaches can be effective when it comes to photometric SFR estimation. Besides, the paper also reported the results for other intelligent algorithms, which predicted the SFRs, providing a detailed comparison of the performance of different machine learning algorithms in the photometric SFR estimation. The research focuses on determining the metallicity ([Fe/H]) predicted in the solar twin stars by using various regression modeling techniques which are, Random Forest, Linear Regression, Decision Tree, Support Vector, and Gradient Boosting. The data set that is taken into account here includes Stellar parameters and chemical abundances derived from a high-accuracy abundance catalog of solar twins from the GALAH survey. To overcome the missing values, intensive preprocessing techniques involving, imputation are done. Each model will subjected to training using different critical observables, which include, Mean Squared Error(MSE), Mean Absolute Error(MAE), Root Mean Squared Error(RMSE), and R-squared. Modeling is done by using, different feature sets like temperature: effective temperature(Teff), surface gravity: log g of 14-chemical-abundances namely, (([Na/Fe], [Mg/Fe], [Al/Fe], [Si/Fe], [Ca/Fe], [Sc/Fe], [Ti/Fe], [Cr/Fe], [Mn/Fe], [Ni/Fe], [Cu/Fe], [Zn/Fe], [Y/Fe], [Ba/Fe])). The target variable considered is the metallicity ([Fe/H]). The findings indicate that the Random Forest model achieved the highest accuracy, with an MSE of 0.001628 and an R-squared value of 0.9266. The results highlight the efficacy of ensemble methods in handling complex datasets with high dimensionality. Invisible axion models that solve the strong CP problem via the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) mechanism typically have a quality problem that arises from quantum gravity effects which violate all global symmetries. These models therefore require extreme fine-tuning of parameters for consistency. We present a new solution to the quality problem in a unified $SO(10)\times U(1)_a$ gauge model, where $U(1)_a$ is an anomaly free axial gauge symmetry. PQ symmetry emerges as an accidental symmetry in this setup, which admits a PQ breaking scale as large as $4\times 10^{11}$ GeV, allowing for the axion to be the cosmological dark matter. We call this a hybrid axion model due to its unique feature that it interpolates between the popular KSVZ and DFSZ axion models. Its predictions for the experimentally measurable axion couplings to the nucleon and electron are distinct from those of the usual models, a feature that can be used to test it. Liquid-droplet coalescence and the mergers of liquid lenses are problems of great practical and theoretical interest in fluid dynamics and the statistical mechanics of multi-phase flows. During such mergers, there is an interesting and intricate interplay between the shapes of the interfaces, separating two phases, and the background flow field. In experiments, it is easier to visualize concentration fields than to obtain the flow field. We demonstrate that two-dimensional (2D) encoder-decoder CNNs, 2D U-Nets, and three-dimensional (3D) U-Nets can be used to obtain flow fields from concentration fields here. To train these networks, we use concentration and flow fields, which we obtain from extensive direct numerical simulations (DNSs) of (a) the coalescence of two circular droplets in the two-component 2D Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes (CHNS) partial differential equations (PDEs), (b) liquid-lens mergers in the three-component 2D CHNS PDEs, and (c) spherical-droplet coalescence in the two-component 3D CHNS PDEs. We then show that, given test images of concentration fields, our trained models accurately predict the flow fields at both high and low Ohnesorge numbers $Oh$ (a dimensionless ratio of viscous stresses to the inertial and surface-tension forces). Using autoencoders and fully connected neural networks, we also investigate the mapping between the concentration and vorticity fields via low-dimensional latent variables for droplet mergers in the 2D CHNS system. We compare the accuracies of flow-field reconstruction based on the two approaches we employ. Finally, we use data from recent experiments on droplet coalescence to show how our method can be used to obtain the flow field from measurements of the concentration field.

Time synchronization is a critical component in network operation and management, and it is also required by Ultra-Reliable, Low-Latency Communications (URLLC) in next-generation wireless systems such as those of 5G, 6G, and Open RAN. In this context, we design and implement AraSync as an end-to-end time synchronization system in the ARA wireless living lab to enable advanced wireless experiments and applications involving stringent time constraints. We make use of Precision Time Protocol (PTP) at different levels to achieve synchronization accuracy in the order of nanoseconds. Along with fiber networks, AraSync enables time synchronization across the AraHaul wireless x-haul network consisting of long-range, high-capacity mmWave and microwave links. In this paper, we present the detailed design and implementation of AraSync, including its hardware and software components and the PTP network topology. Further, we experimentally characterize the performance of AraSync from spatial and temporal dimensions. Informative path planning (IPP) is a crucial task in robotics, where agents must design paths to gather valuable information about a target environment while adhering to resource constraints. Reinforcement learning (RL) has been shown to be effective for IPP, however, it requires environment interactions, which are risky and expensive in practice. To address this problem, we propose an offline RL-based IPP framework that optimizes information gain without requiring real-time interaction during training, offering safety and cost-efficiency by avoiding interaction, as well as superior performance and fast computation during execution -- key advantages of RL. Our framework leverages batch-constrained reinforcement learning to mitigate extrapolation errors, enabling the agent to learn from pre-collected datasets generated by arbitrary algorithms. We validate the framework through extensive simulations and real-world experiments. We perform the first search for $C\!P$ violation in ${D_{(s)}^{+}\to{}K_{S}^{0}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}}$ decays. We use a combined data set from the Belle and Belle II experiments, which study $e^+e^-$ collisions at center-of-mass energies at or near the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. We use 980 fb$^{-1}$ of data from Belle and 428 fb$^{-1}$ of data from Belle~II. We measure six $C\!P$-violating asymmetries that are based on triple products and quadruple products of the momenta of final-state particles, and also the particles' helicity angles. We obtain a precision at the level of 0.5% for $D^+\to{}K_{S}^{0}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}$ decays, and better than 0.3% for $D^+_{s}\to{}K_{S}^{0}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}$ decays. No evidence of $C\!P$ violation is found. Our results for the triple-product asymmetries are the most precise to date for singly-Cabibbo-suppressed $D^+$ decays. We tackle the problem of generating highly realistic and plausible mirror reflections using diffusion-based generative models. We formulate this problem as an image inpainting task, allowing for more user control over the placement of mirrors during the generation process. To enable this, we create SynMirror, a large-scale dataset of diverse synthetic scenes with objects placed in front of mirrors. SynMirror contains around 198K samples rendered from 66K unique 3D objects, along with their associated depth maps, normal maps and instance-wise segmentation masks, to capture relevant geometric properties of the scene. Using this dataset, we propose a novel depth-conditioned inpainting method called MirrorFusion, which generates high-quality geometrically consistent and photo-realistic mirror reflections given an input image and a mask depicting the mirror region. MirrorFusion outperforms state-of-the-art methods on SynMirror, as demonstrated by extensive quantitative and qualitative analysis. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to successfully tackle the challenging problem of generating controlled and faithful mirror reflections of an object in a scene using diffusion based models. Tiny Machine Learning (TinyML) enables efficient, lowcost, and privacy preserving machine learning inference directly on microcontroller units (MCUs) connected to sensors. Optimizing models for these constrained environments is crucial. This paper investigates how reducing data acquisition rates affects TinyML models for time series classification, focusing on resource-constrained, battery operated IoT devices. By lowering data sampling frequency, we aim to reduce computational demands RAM usage, energy consumption, latency, and MAC operations by approximately fourfold while maintaining similar classification accuracies. Our experiments with six benchmark datasets (UCIHAR, WISDM, PAMAP2, MHEALTH, MITBIH, and PTB) showed that reducing data acquisition rates significantly cut energy consumption and computational load, with minimal accuracy loss. For example, a 75\% reduction in acquisition rate for MITBIH and PTB datasets led to a 60\% decrease in RAM usage, 75\% reduction in MAC operations, 74\% decrease in latency, and 70\% reduction in energy consumption, without accuracy loss. These results offer valuable insights for deploying efficient TinyML models in constrained environments.

We propose a class of dark matter models based on a chiral $U(1)$ gauge symmetry acting on a dark sector. The chiral $U(1)$ protects the masses of the dark sector fermions, and also guarantees the stability of the dark matter particle by virtue of an unbroken discrete $\mathcal{Z}_N$ gauge symmetry. We identify 38 such $U(1)$ models which are descendants of a chiral $SU(3) \times SU(2)$ gauge symmetry, consisting of a minimal set of fermions with simple $U(1)$ charge assignments. We show how these models can also be utilized to generate small Majorana neutrino masses radiatively via the scotogenic mechanism with the dark sector particles circulating inside loop diagrams. We further explore the phenomenology of the simplest model in this class, which admits a Majorana fermion, Dirac fermion or a scalar field to be the dark matter candidate, and show the consistency of various scenarios with constraints from relic density and direct detection experiments., Comment: 18 pages + references, 9 figures

Since the invention of the laser nonlinear effects such as filamentation, Rabi-cycling and collective emission have been explored in the optical regime leading to a wide range of scientific and industrial applications. X-ray free electron lasers (XFELs) have led to the extension of many optical techniques to X-rays for their advantages of angstrom scale spatial resolution and elemental specificity. One such example is XFEL driven population inversion of 1s core hole states resulting in inner-shell K${\alpha}$ (2p to 1s) X-ray lasing in elements ranging from neon to copper, which has been utilized for nonlinear spectroscopy and development of next generation X-ray laser sources. Here we show that strong lasing effects, similar to those observed in the optical regime, can occur at 1.5 to 2.1 angstrom wavelengths during high intensity (> ${10^{19}}$ W/cm${^{2}}$) XFEL driven inner-shell lasing and superfluorescence of copper and manganese. Depending on the temporal substructure of the XFEL pump pulses, the resulting inner-shell X-ray laser pulses can exhibit strong spatial inhomogeneities as well as spectral inhomogeneities and broadening. Through 3D Maxwell Bloch theory we show that the observed spatial inhomogeneities result from X-ray filamentation, and that the spectral broadening is driven by Rabi cycling with sub-femtosecond periods. These findings indicate that we have generated Angstrom-wavelength x-ray pulses (containing ${10^{6}}$ - ${10^{8}}$ photons) in the strong lasing regime, some of them with pulse lengths of less than 100 attoseconds.

In prior studies, a very minimal Yukawa sector within the $SO(10)$ Grand Unified Theory framework has been identified, comprising of Higgs fields belonging to a real $10_H$, a real $120_H$, and a $\overline{126}_H$ dimensional representations. In this work, within this minimal framework, we have obtained fits to fermion masses and mixings while successfully reproducing the cosmological baryon asymmetry via leptogenesis.The right-handed neutrino ($N_i$) mass spectrum obtained from the fit is strongly hierarchical, suggesting that $B-L$ asymmetry is dominantly produced from $N_2$ dynamics while $N_1$ is responsible for erasing the excess asymmetry. With this rather constrained Yukawa sector, fits are obtained both for normal and inverted ordered neutrino mass spectra, consistent with leptonic CP-violating phase $\delta_\mathrm{CP}$ indicated by global fits of neutrino oscillation data, while also satisfying the current limits from neutrinoless double beta decay experiments. In particular, the the leptonic CP-violating phase has a preference to be in the range $\delta_\mathrm{CP}\simeq (230-300)^\circ$. A grand challenge in biology is to discover evolutionary traits - features of organisms common to a group of species with a shared ancestor in the tree of life (also referred to as phylogenetic tree). With the growing availability of image repositories in biology, there is a tremendous opportunity to discover evolutionary traits directly from images in the form of a hierarchy of prototypes. However, current prototype-based methods are mostly designed to operate over a flat structure of classes and face several challenges in discovering hierarchical prototypes, including the issue of learning over-specific features at internal nodes. To overcome these challenges, we introduce the framework of Hierarchy aligned Commonality through Prototypical Networks (HComP-Net). We empirically show that HComP-Net learns prototypes that are accurate, semantically consistent, and generalizable to unseen species in comparison to baselines on birds, butterflies, and fishes datasets. In biological system like cell the macromolecules which are anisotropic particles diffuse in a crowded medium. In the present work we have studied the diffusion of spheroidal particles diffusing between cylindrical obstacles by varying the density of the obstacles as well as the spheroidal particles. Analytical calculation of the free energy showed that the orientational vector of a single oblate particle will be aligned perpendicular and a prolate particle will be aligned parallel to the symmetry axis of the cylindrical obstacles in equilibrium. The nematic transition of the system with and without obstacle remained the same, but in the case of obstacles the nematic vector of the spheroid system always remained parallel to the cylindrical axis. The component of the translational diffusion coefficient of the spheroidal particle perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder is calculated for isotropic system which agrees with analytical calculation. When the cylinders overlap such that the spheroidal particles can only diffuse along the direction parallel to the axis of the cylinder we could observe dimensional confinement. This was observed by the discontinuous fall of the diffusion coefficient, when plotted against the chemical potential both for single particle as well as for finite volume fraction. The rotational diffusion coefficient quickly reached the bulk value as the distance between the obstacle increased in the isotropic phase. In the nematic phase the rotational motion of the spheroid should be arrested. We observed that even though the entire system remained in the nematic phase the oblate particle close to the cylinder underwent flipping motion. The consequence is that when the rotational mean squared displacement was calculated it showed a super-diffusive behavior even though the orientational self correlation function never relaxed to zero., Comment: 13 pages, 14 figures

In this work, we present TinyTNAS, a novel hardware-aware multi-objective Neural Architecture Search (NAS) tool specifically designed for TinyML time series classification. Unlike traditional NAS methods that rely on GPU capabilities, TinyTNAS operates efficiently on CPUs, making it accessible for a broader range of applications. Users can define constraints on RAM, FLASH, and MAC operations to discover optimal neural network architectures within these parameters. Additionally, the tool allows for time-bound searches, ensuring the best possible model is found within a user-specified duration. By experimenting with benchmark dataset UCI HAR, PAMAP2, WISDM, MIT BIH, and PTB Diagnostic ECG Databas TinyTNAS demonstrates state-of-the-art accuracy with significant reductions in RAM, FLASH, MAC usage, and latency. For example, on the UCI HAR dataset, TinyTNAS achieves a 12x reduction in RAM usage, a 144x reduction in MAC operations, and a 78x reduction in FLASH memory while maintaining superior accuracy and reducing latency by 149x. Similarly, on the PAMAP2 and WISDM datasets, it achieves a 6x reduction in RAM usage, a 40x reduction in MAC operations, an 83x reduction in FLASH, and a 67x reduction in latency, all while maintaining superior accuracy. Notably, the search process completes within 10 minutes in a CPU environment. These results highlight TinyTNAS's capability to optimize neural network architectures effectively for resource-constrained TinyML applications, ensuring both efficiency and high performance. Images are increasingly becoming the currency for documenting biodiversity on the planet, providing novel opportunities for accelerating scientific discoveries in the field of organismal biology, especially with the advent of large vision-language models (VLMs). We ask if pre-trained VLMs can aid scientists in answering a range of biologically relevant questions without any additional fine-tuning. In this paper, we evaluate the effectiveness of 12 state-of-the-art (SOTA) VLMs in the field of organismal biology using a novel dataset, VLM4Bio, consisting of 469K question-answer pairs involving 30K images from three groups of organisms: fishes, birds, and butterflies, covering five biologically relevant tasks. We also explore the effects of applying prompting techniques and tests for reasoning hallucination on the performance of VLMs, shedding new light on the capabilities of current SOTA VLMs in answering biologically relevant questions using images. Human activity recognition (HAR) holds immense potential for transforming health and fitness monitoring, yet challenges persist in achieving personalized outcomes and sustainability for on-device continuous inferences. This work introduces a wrist-worn smart band designed to address these challenges through a novel combination of on-device TinyML-driven computing and cloud-enabled auto-deployment. Leveraging inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors and a customized 1D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for personalized HAR, users can tailor activity classes to their unique movement styles with minimal calibration. By utilising TinyML for local computations, the smart band reduces the necessity for constant data transmission and radio communication, which in turn lowers power consumption and reduces carbon footprint. This method also enhances the privacy and security of user data by limiting its transmission. Through transfer learning and fine-tuning on user-specific data, the system achieves a 37\% increase in accuracy over generalized models in personalized settings. Evaluation using three benchmark datasets, WISDM, PAMAP2, and the BandX demonstrates its effectiveness across various activity domains. Additionally, this work presents a cloud-supported framework for the automatic deployment of TinyML models to remote wearables, enabling seamless customization and on-device inference, even with limited target data. By combining personalized HAR with sustainable strategies for on-device continuous inferences, this system represents a promising step towards fostering healthier and more sustainable societies worldwide.

Gerth generalised Cohen-Lenstra heuristics to the prime $p=2$. He conjectured that for any positive integer $m$, the limit $$ \lim_{x \to \infty} \frac{\sum_{0 < D \le X, \atop{ \text{squarefree} }} |{\rm Cl}^2_{\Q(\sqrt{D})}/{\rm Cl}^4_{\Q(\sqrt{D})}|^m}{\sum_{0 < D \le X, \atop{ \text{squarefree} }} 1} $$ exists and proposed a value for the limit. Gerth's conjecture was proved by Fouvry and Kluners in 2007. In this paper, we generalize their result by obtaining lower bounds for the average value of $|{\rm Cl}^2_{\L}/{\rm Cl}^4_{\L}|^m$, where $\L$ varies over an infinite family of quadratic extensions of certain Galois number fields. As a special case of our theorem, we obtain lower bounds for the average value when the base field is any Galois number field with class number $1$ in which $2\Z$ splits.

We introduce Transfusion, a recipe for training a multi-modal model over discrete and continuous data. Transfusion combines the language modeling loss function (next token prediction) with diffusion to train a single transformer over mixed-modality sequences. We pretrain multiple Transfusion models up to 7B parameters from scratch on a mixture of text and image data, establishing scaling laws with respect to a variety of uni- and cross-modal benchmarks. Our experiments show that Transfusion scales significantly better than quantizing images and training a language model over discrete image tokens. By introducing modality-specific encoding and decoding layers, we can further improve the performance of Transfusion models, and even compress each image to just 16 patches. We further demonstrate that scaling our Transfusion recipe to 7B parameters and 2T multi-modal tokens produces a model that can generate images and text on a par with similar scale diffusion models and language models, reaping the benefits of both worlds., Comment: 23 pages

The forthcoming 6G and beyond wireless networks are anticipated to introduce new groundbreaking applications, such as Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC), potentially leveraging much wider bandwidths at higher frequencies and using significantly larger antenna arrays at base stations. This puts the system operation in the radiative near-field regime of the BS antenna array, characterized by spherical rather than flat wavefronts. In this paper, we refer to such a system as near-field ISAC. Unlike the far-field regime, the near-field regime allows for precise focusing of transmission beams on specific areas, making it possible to simultaneously determine a target's direction and range from a single base station and resolve targets located in the same direction. This work designs the transmit symbol vector in near-field ISAC to maximize a weighted combination of sensing and communication performances subject to a total power constraint using symbol-level precoding (SLP). The formulated optimization problem is convex, and the solution is used to estimate the angle and range of the considered targets using the 2D MUSIC algorithm. The simulation results suggest that the SLP-based design outperforms the block-level-based counterpart. Moreover, the 2D MUSIC algorithm accurately estimates the targets' parameters.

Altermagnets (AMs) are a new class of magnetic materials that combine the beneficial spintronics properties of ferromagnets and antiferromagnets, garnering significant attention recently. Here, we have identified altermagnetism in a layered intercalated transition metal diselenide, CoNb$_4$Se$_8$, which crystallizes with an ordered sublattice of intercalated Co atoms between NbSe$_2$ layers. Single crystals are synthesized, and the structural characterizations are performed using single crystal diffraction and scanning tunneling microscopy. Magnetic measurements reveal easy-axis antiferromagnetism below 168 K. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that A-type antiferromagnetic ordering with easy-axis spin direction is the ground state, which is verified through single crystal neutron diffraction experiments. Electronic band structure calculations in this magnetic state display spin-split bands, confirming altermagnetism in this compound. The layered structure of CoNb$_4$Se$_8$ presents a promising platform for testing various predicted properties associated with altermagnetism.

We present an experimental study of the effects of driving current direction on ferromagnetic resonance in NiFe foils. The rf driving current was applied to NiFe foils of different shapes. In rectangular samples with a close-to-uniform flow of the applied current along the long edge of the sample we find the resonance field to follow a simple 'cos' dependence on the angle between the current and external dc magnetic field. We argue that this behavior cannot be explained by the in-plane demagnetizing field of the rectangular foil. In triangular samples where the current partially flows along all three sample edges we observed three independent 'cos' features. The latter suggests individual contributions from different areas with different current directions. We were able to switch off one of these contributions by covering one edge of the triangular sample with a conducting overlayer and thereby effectively short-circuiting the corresponding current path. We present an experimental study of the spin rectification effects produced by ferromagnetic resonance in a NiFe wire. A system of four independent nonmagnetic contact probes was used to supply both rf and dc currents to the wire and to measure dc voltages at different locations in the wire. The rf current drives the ferromagnet's magnetization into resonance and produces a dc photovoltage which results from the rectification of rf current in the ferromagnet with oscillating magnetization. Our 4-probe system provided a means to detect the photovoltage and separate contributions from the ferromagnet/nonmagnet contacts and the bulk of the ferromagnet. The contact photovoltage was found to increase approximately linearly with the dc bias applied to the wire. In contrast, the bulk contribution was found to be almost independent of the dc bias. By tuning properties of individual contact probes we were able to change the magnitude of the contact photovoltage and even reverse its sign. This paper addresses the challenge of achieving stable adaptive teleoperation and improving the convergence rate in the presence of high communication time delays. We employ a passivity-based formalism to establish stability using wave variables and wave scattering techniques, and we enhance the convergence rate by combining it with predictor-based approaches. The elevated time delay within the teleoperated communication layer is known to induce an oscillatory behavior, which reduces the convergence rate and increases the settling time in the convergence of power variables. This issue is addressed in this paper by utilizing a Smith predictor on the operator end and Minimum Jerk (MJ) predictor on the remote end. Machine learning has driven an exponential increase in computational demand, leading to massive data centers that consume significant amounts of energy and contribute to climate change. This makes sustainable data center control a priority. In this paper, we introduce SustainDC, a set of Python environments for benchmarking multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms for data centers (DC). SustainDC supports custom DC configurations and tasks such as workload scheduling, cooling optimization, and auxiliary battery management, with multiple agents managing these operations while accounting for the effects of each other. We evaluate various MARL algorithms on SustainDC, showing their performance across diverse DC designs, locations, weather conditions, grid carbon intensity, and workload requirements. Our results highlight significant opportunities for improvement of data center operations using MARL algorithms. To address the rural broadband challenge and to leverage the unique opportunities that rural regions provide for piloting advanced wireless applications, we design and implement the ARA wireless living lab for research and innovation in rural wireless systems and their applications in precision agriculture, community services, and so on. ARA focuses on the unique community, application, and economic context of rural regions, and it features the first-of-its-kind, real-world deployment of long-distance, high-capacity wireless x-haul and access platforms across a rural area of diameter over 30 km. With both software-defined radios and programmable COTS systems and through effective orchestration of these wireless resources with fiber as well as compute resources embedded end-to-end across user equipment, base stations, edge, and cloud, ARA offers programmability, performance, robustness, and heterogeneity at the same time, thus enabling rural-focused co-evolution of wireless and applications while helping advance the frontiers of wireless systems in domains such as O-RAN, NextG, and agriculture applications. Synthetic data is becoming increasingly integral in data-scarce fields such as medical imaging, serving as a substitute for real data. However, its inherent statistical characteristics can significantly impact downstream tasks, potentially compromising deployment performance. In this study, we empirically investigate this issue and uncover a critical phenomenon: downstream neural networks often exploit spurious distinctions between real and synthetic data when there is a strong correlation between the data source and the task label. This exploitation manifests as \textit{simplicity bias}, where models overly rely on superficial features rather than genuine task-related complexities. Through principled experiments, we demonstrate that the source of data (real vs.\ synthetic) can introduce spurious correlating factors leading to poor performance during deployment when the correlation is absent. We first demonstrate this vulnerability on a digit classification task, where the model spuriously utilizes the source of data instead of the digit to provide an inference. We provide further evidence of this phenomenon in a medical imaging problem related to cardiac view classification in echocardiograms, particularly distinguishing between 2-chamber and 4-chamber views. Given the increasing role of utilizing synthetic datasets, we hope that our experiments serve as effective guidelines for the utilization of synthetic datasets in model training.

In 2015, Codesido-Grassi-Marino laid the foundation of a connection between local CY 3-folds and the spectra of operators attached to their mirror curves in the context of Topological String Theory. In a 2024 paper with C. Doran and M. Kerr, the author previously deduced two consequences of this conjecture; one relating zeroes of higher normal function to the spectra of operators of genus one curves, the other connecting integral regulators of $K_2$-classes on mirror curves to dilogarithm values at algebraic arguments. Recently, we have seen a surge of personalization methods for text-to-image (T2I) diffusion models to learn a concept using a few images. Existing approaches, when used for face personalization, suffer to achieve convincing inversion with identity preservation and rely on semantic text-based editing of the generated face. However, a more fine-grained control is desired for facial attribute editing, which is challenging to achieve solely with text prompts. In contrast, StyleGAN models learn a rich face prior and enable smooth control towards fine-grained attribute editing by latent manipulation. This work uses the disentangled $\mathcal{W+}$ space of StyleGANs to condition the T2I model. This approach allows us to precisely manipulate facial attributes, such as smoothly introducing a smile, while preserving the existing coarse text-based control inherent in T2I models. To enable conditioning of the T2I model on the $\mathcal{W+}$ space, we train a latent mapper to translate latent codes from $\mathcal{W+}$ to the token embedding space of the T2I model. The proposed approach excels in the precise inversion of face images with attribute preservation and facilitates continuous control for fine-grained attribute editing. Furthermore, our approach can be readily extended to generate compositions involving multiple individuals. We present a measurement of $|V_{ub}|$ from a simultaneous study of the charmless semileptonic decays $B^0\to\pi^- \ell^+ \nu_{\ell}$ and $B^+\to\rho^0 \ell^+\nu_{\ell}$, where $\ell = e, \mu$. This measurement uses a data sample of 387 million $B\overline{B}$ meson pairs recorded by the Belle~II detector at the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider between 2019 and 2022. The two decays are reconstructed without identifying the partner $B$ mesons. We simultaneously measure the differential branching fractions of $B^0\to\pi^- \ell^+ \nu_{\ell}$ and $B^+\to\rho^0 \ell^+\nu_{\ell}$ decays as functions of $q^2$ (momentum transfer squared). From these, we obtain total branching fractions $B(B^0\to\pi^- \ell^+ \nu_{\ell}) = (1.516 \pm 0.042 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.059 (\mathrm{syst})) \times 10^{-4}$ and $B(B^+\to\rho^0 \ell^+\nu_{\ell}) = (1.625 \pm 0.079 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.180 (\mathrm{syst})) \times 10^{-4}$. By fitting the measured $B^0\to\pi^- \ell^+ \nu_{\ell}$ partial branching fractions as functions of $q^2$, together with constraints on the non-perturbative hadronic contribution from lattice QCD calculations, we obtain $|V_{ub}|$ = $(3.93 \pm 0.09 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.19) \times 10^{-3}$. Here, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is theoretical.
