Abstract

The improvement of the method for selecting shunt reactors based on instantaneous power in order to eliminate a surplus of reactive power created by the charging capacities of power transmission lines in 330-500 kV elelctrical networks of the power system is considered. Based on the proposed method, the performance of controlled shunt reactors located in priority 330 kV nodes of a real power system is superficially described and their operating modes are studied. As a result of the study, in accordance with changes in the modes of shunt reactors in real time, the voltage in the 330 kV buses is maintained in a stable and acceptable range, as well as the increase in the voltage stability of the power system.

Abstract

The accuracy of deployed malware-detection classifiers degrades over time due to changes in data distributions and increasing discrepancies between training and testing data. This phenomenon is known as the concept drift. While the concept drift can be caused by various reasons in general, new malicious files are created by malware authors with a clear intention of avoiding detection. The existence of the intention opens a possibility for predicting such future samples. Including predicted samples in training data should consequently increase the accuracy of the classifiers on new testing data. We compare two methods for predicting future samples: (1) adversarial training and (2) generative adversarial networks (GANs). The first method explicitly seeks for adversarial examples against the classifier that are then used as a part of training data. Similarly, GANs also generate synthetic training data. We use GANs to learn changes in data distributions within different time periods of training data and then apply these changes to generate samples that could be in testing data. We compare these prediction methods on two different datasets: (1) Ember public dataset and (2) the internal dataset of files incoming to Avast. We show that while adversarial training yields more robust classifiers, this method is not a good predictor of future malware in general. This is in contrast with previously reported positive results in different domains (including natural language processing and spam detection). On the other hand, we show that GANs can be successfully used as predictors of future malware. We specifically examine malware families that exhibit significant changes in their data distributions over time and the experimental results confirm that GAN-based predictions can significantly improve the accuracy of the classifier on new, previously unseen data.

18. Placement of shunt reactors in high-voltage network using fuzzy constraints

Abstract

In recent years, controlled shunt reactors (CSR) relevant to the class of FACTS facilities have been widely used to control voltage modes and reactive power flows in the high-voltage electrical network. The selection of location, as well as the definition of the law of CSR control in the conditions of stochastic variability of the operation mode of high-voltage power transmission, are associated with numerous technical and economic factors. At the same time, such constraint conditions as ease of use, performance efficiency, purpose and location in the system, as well as the period of commissioning should be taken into account. In the proposed procedure these factors are considered as fuzzy constraints. The procedure of CSR placement in the 330 kV electrical network of Azerenergy system for control of reactive power flows taking into account the mentioned fuzzy constraints is proposed. The obtained simulation results confirm the advantage of the proposed procedure.

Abstract

The task of provision of the efficiency of fuzzy controller action, regulating the power of shunt reactors, is considered for the stabilization of the voltage values in high-voltage buses, as well as to increase the regime reliability of the power grid. A new algorithm is proposed for controlling the power or inductive resistance of reactor depending on the load resistance, rate of change and voltage on the network buses. The results of the designed experiment based on computer simulation confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

Abstract

The article discusses the problem of modern urban space planning, taking an individual Russian region (Nizhny Novgorod) as an example. The authors argue that neither the policy nor the mentality of government authorities and professionals in the field of architecture can ignore the habits, needs, expectations and views of city residents regarding the best comfortable urban space layout. A sociological survey conducted in Nizhny Novgorod has shown that a modern city dweller’s priorities include quality education, access to culture, visual uniqueness of the city and aesthetisation of its space (referring not only to the historic center but also to the residential district areas) that should define modern urban planning strategies. Various forms of social alienation caused by improper structuring of urban space are considered a problem for a modern Russian region: leisure isolationism, discomfort from perceiving residential district areas as periferic with simultaneously preferring virtual space to the physical urban one. In conclusion, recommendations for setting up urban environment layout are offered to urban planners.

Abstract

BackgroundBiallelic loss-of-function mutations in CARMIL2 cause combined immunodeficiency associated with dermatitis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and EBV-related smooth muscle tumors. Clinical and immunological characterizations of the disease with long-term follow-up and treatment options have not been previously reported in large cohorts. We sought to determine the clinical and immunological features of CARMIL2 deficiency and long-term efficacy of treatment in controlling different disease manifestations.MethodsThe presenting phenotypes, long-term outcomes, and treatment responses were evaluated prospectively in 15 CARMIL2-deficient patients, including 13 novel cases. Lymphocyte subpopulations, protein expression, regulatory T (Treg), and circulating T follicular helper (cTFH ) cells were analyzed. Three-dimensional (3D) migration assay was performed to determine T-cell shape.ResultsMean age at disease onset was 38 ± 23 months. Main clinical features were skin manifestations (n = 14, 93%), failure to thrive (n = 10, 67%), recurrent infections (n = 10, 67%), allergic symptoms (n = 8, 53%), chronic diarrhea (n = 4, 27%), and EBV-related leiomyoma (n = 2, 13%). Skin manifestations ranged from atopic and seborrheic dermatitis to psoriasiform rash. Patients had reduced proportions of memory CD4+ T cells, Treg, and cTFH cells. Memory B and NK cells were also decreased. CARMIL2-deficient T cells exhibited reduced T-cell proliferation and cytokine production following CD28 co-stimulation and normal morphology when migrating in a high-density 3D collagen gel matrix. IBD was the most severe clinical manifestation, leading to growth retardation, requiring multiple interventional treatments. All patients were alive with a median follow-up of 10.8 years (range: 3-17 years).ConclusionThis cohort provides clinical and immunological features and long-term follow-up of different manifestations of CARMIL2 deficiency.

Abstract

A new polymorph of the title compound, C14H8Br3N3O2, (form-2) was obtained in the same manner as the previously reported form-1 [Akkurt et al. (2022). Acta Cryst. E78, 732–736]. The structure of the new polymorph is stabilized by a C—H...O hydrogen bond that links molecules into chains. These chains are linked by face-to-face π–π stacking interactions, resulting in a layered structure. Short inter-molecular Br...O contacts and van der Waals interactions between the layers aid in the cohesion of the crystal packing. In the previously reported form-1, C—H...Br interactions connect molecules into zigzag chains, which are linked by C—Br...π interactions into layers, whereas the van der Waals interactions between the layers stabilize the crystal packing of form-2. Hirshfeld molecular surface analysis was used to compare the intermolecular interactions of the polymorphs.
